how do you think kalim and idia would spend halloween together?

Hello! Thank you for this ask, I'm very excited to answer!!

As I've mentioned in my horror movie post for Housewardens (based on the ask from @kimium; link here), I think Idia would really like horror movies (which is based on his R Halloween costume card vignette), but I feel like Kalim would not really enjoy all things horror and creepy. He'd like the more fun, light-horror aspects of Halloween. That being said, I think they can find middle ground to enjoy the holiday together!

Decorations are a Must. Kalim may not want the spookiest decorations, but he loves parties and themes. He'd choose some of the cute-looking ghost and witch window-clings, there'd be garlands of bats, Halloween themed plates and napkins, goblets shaped to look like skulls, and, of course, jack-o-lanterns which they carved together! Their pumpkins are displayed proudly, front and center, even if Idia is a little shy about sharing his. It's ok, because Kalim encourages him that it's really good!

For costumes, they spend weeks working together to make a couple's costume. Idia models it after one of his favourite anime. Kalim may not know the show's title, but he's watched a bit of it with Idia and he had fun watching his boyfriend enjoy it so much. He also thinks a couple costume is a great way to make sure everyone can see he's dating Idia. I think Kalim would be really into doing couple activities because 1. he loves spending time with Idia, and 2. he loves showing everyone how much he loves his partner! Also, he finds it fun to make the costume; I think Kalim would enjoy crafts like that. Idia is a stickler for details, but I think Kalim gets him to also let loose a little and remember that everything doesn't have to be 100% perfect. Knowing Idia's perfectionism when it comes to cosplay and his love of anime, he's definitely the one that keeps them on-track so the costumes are actually ready for Halloween...lol :)

When it comes to snacks and candies...well, I think Jamil and Ortho have now put in place a rule that Idia and Kalim *cannot* go to the grocery store unsupervised. The pantry was full with nothing but candy, the closet had bags upon bags of chips and popcorn. Jamil found skull-shaped chocolates in the freezer. Ortho discovered Idia sleeping curled up in a ball on his bed because Idia's bed was full of bags upon bags of sour candies. And they weren't planning on sharing with anyone. Idia and Kalim bought all those snacks entirely in preparation for Halloween Date Night so they could eat them all while watching movies together. They both got the scolding of a lifetime and then received a rationed portion of treats they were allowed to have for Halloween. I guess it's 'the couple that gets in trouble together stays together'?...lol. Not an ounce of impulse control between the two of them when it comes to the snacks haha.

When they finally get to have their Halloween date, I do believe they would spend it watching cheesy, not-overly-scary, Halloween movies and munching on snacks. They're definitely cuddling on the couch (Idia made sure they chose costumes that would allow for this) and they're laughing at the movie together. They marathon so many movies that they fall asleep on the couch like that, and there's spilled popcorn on the floor and half-drunk cans of pop on the coffee table and empty chocolate wrappers scattered about like confetti...

"Trick or Treat!"

"Thena, stop eating the candy!"

Jack and Thena both looked behind them at Phastos, shaking his head with his hands on his hips. Jack - with his plague doctor mask pushed up on top of his head - shrugged. "I told her she could have some."

"Oh, sure, she can have some," Phastos huffed at the unfairness of it all, "but last time I asked you told me that you had to make it last all year."

Thena stared her brother down, popping another sour candy into her mouth. "The sweets are his bounty, Phastos. He may do with it as he pleases."

Ben just laughed, watching as Jack dug around for more candy he thought his aunt would like. "He's sharing, Habibi--it's a good thing."

"Yeah," Gil snickered to the other side of Phastos, elbowing him, "don't be so jealous."

Phastos raised a brow at his brother, "I don't see you getting any."

Gil shrugged, trailing behind them as Jack left Thena a few last pieces before joining his friends again. "More for her."

Despite his happiness to let Thena take what she liked of Jack's generosity, she drifted back to his side, selecting a green apple candy and slipping it into his pocket.

He looked at her, but she was concentrating on the tart candy on her tongue. He extracted the hand from his pocket to wrap an arm around her. "I'd rather have that one."

But Thena turned her head, letting his lips collide with her cheek instead of her lips. "No."

"No?" Gil feigned shock and dismay.

"I already gave you one," Thena eyed her husband with a sly grin. "This one was selected specifically for me."

"Mm," Gil mused, touching the tip of his nose to hers, "I could always find a way of slipping it away from you."

"I swear to all the stars in the sky, you two-" Phastos began ranting at the couple while Ben continued to laugh at his husband and his in-laws' antics. "The only reason you're here is because the other parents wanted more than just me and Ben to watch them all."

Thena popped another candy into her mouth while Gil settled for the one she had given him. "That's not true, Jack invited us."

He had--he had insisted, actually, that his friends meet his 'super cool' uncle and aunt visiting from Australia. Although he had been disappointed to learn that he was not allowed to show off their superpowers.

"Don't remind me," Phastos grumbled. The kids returned from the next porch, jostling each other and laughing. "Okay guys, come on, two more blocks and that's it, that was the deal."

"Dad!"

"Don't 'Dad' me, mister," Phastos wagged his finger.

"Aunt Thena?" Jack turned to his greatest ally, but she avoided his eyes.

She was doing it on purpose. If she looked at that cute little human face she would definitely defy Phastos' very strict rule about not watching his son without at least one other person present.

"Uncle Gil?"

"Sorry buddy, your dad was pretty clear about this one," Gil laughed as the kid ran out of options. "But after the two blocks how 'bout I make some special hot chocolate when we get back?"

"What's so special about it?"

"No, you don't even know," Jack shook his head at his friends, waving them along to the next house. "It's so good."

Thena unwrapped the last candy gifted to her, chewing it slowly as the children ran ahead again. "Are these available constantly?"

"I think so," Gil mused, examining the wrapper she was about to stuff into his waiting pockets. "We can always bring some with us in case they're not in Australia."

"Hey!"

The adults all looked up with alarm. There was a traffic jam of sorts at the next house--a big, beautiful, visibly well off house with nothing but a bowl on the front step. The owners were away on vacation and trusting people to be honourable about the full size candy bars they were taking.

"You can't take five, that's not fair!"

Thena was already walking towards the house. Gil gave the back of her dress a little tug, "easy."

Phastos adjusted his glasses, "whoa, guys, what happened here?"

"They're taking all the candy!" Jack belted, pointing at the offenders.

Thena examined the older boys, not even concerned with pleading their case. Her eyes narrowed. "I thought there was an age restriction on such an event."

"Whoa, Jack, who's the milf?" one of the older ones laughed, clearly some low number of teen.

"Yeah, you kids should probably stick closer to home."

"Okay, boys," Phastos grumbled, his own veins starting to itch with energy. He considered himself a reasonable man. But this was his child they were messing with (not even wanting to think about the comment on his own sister).

Thena wasted no time. She gripped the back of the leather jacket the tallest one was wearing. She shook him, making the bars in his pockets drop to the ground. "What else have you pilfered?"

"H-Huh?! I-I don't--put me down!" his voice broke as he flailed in the taller woman's reach.

"Let go of him, bitch!"

Gil picked up the next one, also holding him like a stray animal getting a little too aggressive. "Okay, that's enough, kids. Why don't you all just run home, huh?"

The other three didn't have to be told twice, already halfway down the walkway and pushing past Ben on their way. He sighed--he was going to have to handle the calls from angry parents.

"It's okay, guys."

Surprisingly, it was Jack who was the voice of reason, holding out his palms to indicate the teenagers be put down. Thena tilted her head at her sweet natured nephew. She shook the older human again. "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure, Aunt Thena," Jack nodded, watching the humiliation colour the older boy's face. "He's probably learned his lesson by now."

Gil looked at Thena, asking her what she wanted to do. But she nodded; if Jack was sure, then so was she. He nodded, taking the boy from her grasp the way he would receive a kitten by its scruff. He carried his two human nuisances down the walkway, away from Jack and his friends. "You guys better not go around bothering anyone else."

As soon as they were on their feet again the two panicked, scrambling away desperately.

Phastos sighed again, at his family more than his son. "Do you know how much I am gonna have to deal with now because of this?"

Gil rolled his eyes, patting Phastos on the arm. "Like you weren't going to teach 'em a lesson of your own for messing with him?"

"That's not the point, Gil." Of course he was going to.

"Why're you so strong?"

Thena looked at Jack's friend (she hadn't bothered to learn any of their names). She looked at Gil, waiting for them all to rejoin them on the sidewalk. "We have the same workout routine."

"That's so cool!"

Kids were so willing to accept things. Thena smiled as they bounded off the deck, each with a candy bar of their own. She slipped one of the stolen ones into Jack's bag on his way past her.

"Thanks, Aunt Thena," he gave her a shy, toothy smile, holding up a second one he'd procured just for her. "I knew it was a good idea to bring you along."

She loved this human boy so much. Thena smiled, accepting the chocolate gently in her palm. She walked beside Jack behind his friends, breaking the slab in half and handing it back to him without a word.

Jack bit into it with a grin, watching as she bit into her half, holding it in her teeth. But he did roll his eyes as she greeted Uncle Gil with it, him leaning in to bite it off while kissing her at the same time.

Earbuds or headphones: Atm it's only earbuds because I broke my headphones (though I'm pretty confident I can fix them). Also earbuds when at work because I can listen to music in one ear and still be aware of my surroundings.

Paperback or hardcover: Paperback. They might not look as impressive but they're cheaper and lighter to carry around. Though if it's a book I'm highly anticipating I sometimes can't bring myself to wait for the paperback to be released.

Matte or gel: Matte on both lipstick and nail polish.

12 hr clock or 24 clock: 24 in my native tongue and 12 when I'm speaking English.

Blue or green: Blue

Sunsets or sunrises: Never up early enough to catch sunrises so sunsets it is. Though I when I do see a sunrise it's extra special.

Tulips or orchids: TULIPS! They are my favourite flowers of all time and it's a pity that they're not in season when my birthday comes around.

Candlelight or moonlight: Moonlight! Makes me feel magical and I also usually converse with the moon when it's full, make wishes etc.

Sci-Fi or horror: I hate horror and there are so many sci-fi flavours.

Pen or pencil: Pen though I haven't used one in a while.

Pandas or koalas: Koalas.

Gold or silver: I think silver suits me best and it also has this "underdog" vibe to it.

Sneakers or boots: Depends on the season really. Boots are more rock and sneakers more skater style.

Denim or leather jacket: I have a really cool denim jacket with lots of patches and pins but I'd also love to have a leather jacket again.

Pink or purple: Purple. It's my character's favourite colour in our ttrpg campaign. She even has purple hair!

Choco or sour candy: Chocolate🍫

Deodorant or perfume: Deo. I used to have some Balenciaga perfume but I don't know where that went to.

Drive-in theatre or cinema: We don't really have drive-ins around here but I also hardly go to the "classic" cinema.

10•16•23 - Halloween Party 🍄🐇🫖

Group Halloween costumes have become my new favorite thing, basically since we did the Powderpuff girls years ago. There's just something magical about each person taking one character and going all out, and then coming together to see the whole thing complete!

This year's theme was Alice in Wonderland. I was Alice, Kena was the Cheshire Cat, Glen was the Mad Hatter, Beach was the Queen of Hearts, and B and Jason were Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum - and honestly? We killed it. We drove up Farmington Canyon until we found a good photo spot, and I also just love how the photos turned out. B and Jason were killing me the whole time, and Glen was literally made to play the Mad Hatter. So these turned out just perfectly.

After photos, we went back to our house for the rest of the annual Halloween party! We had Cafe Rio while we watched part of the Alice in Wonderland cartoon (since only me and Kena have actually seen it - how???). Then it was time for games!

Jason did his game first since he had to get going to the airport to catch a flight for work, and he did Halloween bingo! Glen won the $25 Chipotle gift card, even though me and B were so close the ENTIRE time. Very cute and fun. Then Beach did her game, which was rolling a can down my table, and winning the prize of whatever square you land in. B won me the Starbucks gift card, so he's my champion. I won a bag of candy and a light-up skull necklace. B also got a bag of candy, a ghost candle holder, and some glowsticks. Glen won a pumpkin gut scoop, Jason won a Chick-fil-A gift card, and Kena won a decorative Trick or Treat sign. It was a super fun game, and we all were trying so hard to land on the things we wanted most!

I went next, and my game was Pong with the grossest Halloween candy available. I put out 10 cups each, and filled them with things like black licorice, Good and Plenty, 90% cocoa dark chocolate, Mounds, Dots, orange sticks, Reese's (for Kena), cinnamon bears, Whoppers, candy corn and candy pumpkins, and Raisinets. Jason had left, so the girls had 30 cups, and the boys had 20. Then we just took turns bouncing our ping pong balls, and if you land in an opponents' cup, they have to eat what's inside. This was BRUTAL. I thought it would be fun to make people suffer, but I ended up suffering myself so much hahah. The black licorice was among the most disgusting things I've ever tried. I could NOT do it. I had two mini sticks in my cup, and could only manage to swallow half of the first one. Beach had to take one for the team and eat the rest, and she also struggled. She was trying everything from coating them in peanut butter, to shoving other candies in her mouth along with it, just to get it down. Good and Plenty were equally disgusting, since they're black licorice flavored. I ended up swallowing both mine and Beach's like Tylenol, because I could not get myself to chew them. The dark chocolate was another one I had to tap out on, and make Kena and Beach eat, because it was so sour and bitter. I also basically gave up when I got the orange sticks - one bite and I almost threw up in the garbage can. The annoying thing was that the boys, especially Glen, were unphased by eating anything out on the table. So really, jokes on us. I eventually had to start having Glen eat some of ours, in exchange for putting more cups up on their side (just empty ones, so they had longer to win). In the end, the girls got all of the boys' cups down first, but they did have less cups than us, and we also failed to eat everything we were supposed to eat. So really, they win hahah. Everyone was mad at me, and it's a game we'll never forget, and also never play again. I needed to put less candy in each cup - it was too much!

Then we played Kena's game, which was to throw sticky spiders at a target to earn points. B ended up with the win, after a bonus round where we could bet points - high risk, high reward. Glen was next, and he did an inflatable bowling game. The ball was a pumpkin, and the pins were candy corns. The ball was not heavy enough to effectively knock the pins down, so once again, B won - but with a total of four pins over three frames. It was hard, but very cute!

Finally, we ended with B's activity, and I'm so proud of him for it because it was so cute. He did the trend of painting ghosts in thrifted/vintage paintings! He got everyone a framed canvas painting of some kind of landscape, and then let each person paint over it - ghosts, bats, pumpkins.. whatever. Just make it spooky. It was so fun! I wish I was a better artist, but I'm still pleased with how they turned out. Everyone did a great job, and it was the perfect way to wind down.

You were asked by your biology teacher to borrow the books for the class’s current lesson from the library on the spot so you took a beeline for the shelves as fast as you could. But for god’s sake all the books were placed at the topmost part of the science shelves. You stood there for a good minute while glaring at the books overhead. You knew you were damned for good since there were no chairs nearby that were available and the librarian was nowhere to be seen. You stomped you feet in annoyance until you felt a looming presence behind you. A tall one. When you turned around, you saw Juza grabbing the books at ease and handing it to you. You thanked him quietly which surprised him because you actually didn’t quiver with fear or panic in his presence??? and you genuinely thanked him?? It was not usual for him to hear someone express their gratitude towards him. Even the cashiers from sweet shops he’d like to visit secretly we’re scared of him for heaven’s sake. After murmuring a little “‘S nothing.” he walked away. And that was the end of it. Or so you thought. The second time you met the purple haired boy was in a cafe. You were patiently waiting in the line for this so called Peanut Butter Pound Cake S'mores. According to your friends, it was one of the best desserts the cafe ever had. To test that theory, you decided to check the dessert yourself. Everything was perfectly normal until a young teenage boy of average height with fluffy pink hair and light blue eyes bumped into you, spilling a little of his drink on you. Yes, I’m talking about Muku. Baby boy was so scared and flustered, he apologized to you multiple times like crazy. Luckily it wasn’t anything hot so you didn’t burn yourself. Giving the boy a soft smile, you said it was fine and he shouldn’t worry about it. But he is a kind-hearted and modest boy with the motto "doing one good deed each day" so of course he offered you to give some of the Chocolate-Caramel Sandwich Cookies he had ordered before to apologize properly. Normally you would’ve reject the offer but with the way he was looking at you, you couldn’t find the heart to do so. While waiting for your order together, you learned what the boy’s name was and that he came here with his cousin. When you heard that the first image that popped into your mind was a soft looking person just like him you. After you got your order, the two of you made your way towards their table. And with that, your previous thought was thrown out of the window just like that. There he was, one and only Juza Hyodo, the person who helped you in the library, was sitting in a chair, quietly munching on one of the many sweets in front of him. When Muku announced that he was back, his eyes shot up to him and then shifted towards you. Yeah, it was awkward. Nevertheless, you tried to offer the tall boy a smile, which he just nodded his head, cheeks tilted pink to get his sweet tooth exposed to someone from school. After you sat down, Muku began to explain how he accidentally bumped into you and spilled some of his drink on you. Juza got the picture and said nothing. Though, gradually he started to become more comfortable. Before you knew it, you befriend the young teenage boy with fluffy hair. You told Muku how you two first met, which he only exclaimed how cool his cousin was and how the scene was just like from a shoujo manga. So yeah, your friendship with Juza started that day and slowly but steadily developed into something more. You would see him at school and chat with him, give him snacks to eat together on the rooftop etc.

➜ PERSONALITY COMPATIBILITY ; Let me just start of by saying that you two are really similar in terms of personality. A loner who is shy, quiet, awkward, likes alone time yet still friendly and good-willing towards others? Yeah, you get to point. Coffee mugs! tbh I drink tea out of coffee mugs because who actually uses teacups? I mean my grandma has tons and I would use them, but the handles are so tiny and I am v clumsy so it scares me.

Okay, so even though I’ve always been homeschooled, when I was in elementary school we did this program with a ton of other homeschoolers where you could take actual classes and stuff. My teachers always said I was quiet and focused and studious, and you could always count on me to be lecturing everyone else on the instructions if they hadn’t been paying attention. Fantasy. It can take me a bit to get into it, but once I do, I love it. I only do sci-fi if it has rebellion and isn’t heavy on the sci. And superhero movies are great but a lot of the tropes are meh. Fantasy has a lot more versatility if you ask me.
