I am starting a new challenge for myself and reading one good reads choice winner so like it's 2024 so I go back and read the 2023 winner. Divine Rivals is a mystery to me why so many love it? I get the romance aspect of it and the writing is very lyrical and purple. So I can see just enjoying that prettyness of it. Even aspect of this book was pretty mediocre to me and the fact that we don't understand their world. If the world gets into a war of going goat for gods why do your average citizens not understand the myths? Iris has to go searching and only finds the myths because Roman happens to be interested in literature.

If you think about this work for more than a second it kind of falls flat, unfortunately

I know I don't know everything about my surrounding world but the average person understands what makes it operate and why things are happening. Felt a little lackluster in that aspect.

I saw a review that said, DR is fantasy about a WWIesque world but the gods made them do it and takes all mortal responsibility away. I agree, there just seems to be no one talking about why this war has to happen and there are mortal lives dying for these gods? They both suck even if the book is trying to make only one good look sucky. Your supposed to love Enva and hate Dacre. I agree that Dacre sucks.

I did like the romance of this though, it was sweet even if I keep hearing this touted as Enemies to Lovers. It's not really enemies. They were never enemies. At best they were rivals and it was frustrating. I was hoping to see two journalists detailing opposite sides of a war, but it was not that at all.

Just last week, he created her much-hyped afrocloud puff for the Critics' #ChoiceAwards Now, the duo are back in action for the #SAGAwards where Nyong'o is nominated for Best Actress for her performance in Us. It's a big night for Nyong'o, and thankfully, François filled us in on exactly how he designed yet another show-stopping style. "I was definitely channeling the #1940s today," François tells Allure. "You don't often get to see women that look like Lupita or have similar hair textures — like the curly-kinky-coily hair textures — do something so glam and old Hollywood on the red carpet." For references, François turned to the "hundreds of thousands of women of color that used to wear these hair styles," he explained. "Women used to wear hair like this to go do the laundry. We used old, traditional images." Working with Nyong'o's strapless gown in mind, the two decided on an Old Hollywood style that channeled classic glamour mixed with the new #Hollywood innovation that François brings to his work. You might think that a look this pristine and gorgeous was planned months in advance down to each curl and coil, but François explains that he often prepares as much as he can, then improvises in the moment. "I'm quite an emotional hair stylist," he says. "It really is just prepping and then feeling the moment, feeling the hair, looking at the balance, and looking at how [Nyong'o] is responding." It's a dynamic that requires plenty of trust and willingness to experiment, which is probably why Nyong'o always ends up on the red carpet looking so damn good.
