“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.” ― Dalai Lama XIV
The latest victims in Suella Braverman’s ruthless bid for the leadership of the Conservative Party are the homeless. From her “hate speech” against asylum seekers to her instructions to the police that they “must definitely intervene and arrest” eco-protesters, Suella Braverman is reshaping Britain’s social and emotional DNA so that our once fame for social tolerance is rapidly becoming nothing more than a historical curiosity.
From Chris Packham to Gary Lineker, from asylum seekers to eco-protesters, Suella Braverman is prepared to sacrifice anyone and everyone in her bid to win the approval and support of the far right of the Conservative Party. And her latest victims are to be the homeless, especially those living on the streets in tents.
After 12 years of Tory government, we have a worsening housing shortage accompanied by an inevitable increase in homelessness. Couple this to the massive rise in interest rates and the knock on effect of rising rents, and we have a perfect homelessness storm.
According to the Guardian newspaper, rapidly rising homelessness is “a crisis made in government". (23/1023/).
However, Ms Braverman, true to form, is more concerned with blaming the victims than in solving the problem, claiming that rough sleeping is “a lifestyle choice”.  Not only is Ms Braverman unprepared to help the homeless but she is actively proposing the prosecution of those that do want to help.
“Braverman’s proposals for addressing this issue include establishing a civil offence to discourage charities from distributing tents to homeless individuals. Charities might face fines if the tents they provide are deemed to have caused a public nuisance.” (TDPel Media: 04/11/23)
Way back in 2002 Theresa May, then Conservative Party chairwoman, told a stunned party conference that people called the Conservatives, the “Nasty Party".  Sadly, they remain nasty and have now added vindictive, heartless, cruel and morally bankrupt to their name.

Masking / existential cover-up (Chris Packham & the autistic spectrum)
Autism, Chris Packham, Terry Nutkins, Kabbalah, Transformers (autobots) and Desmond Morris come together in the usual confusion.
Remember the 1994 film, The Mask, starring Jim Carrey? It was one of those Hollywood blockbusters that tried to examine something serious in a slapstick way. Mask. We all wear them. Last night, I watched Chris Packham’s recent double documentary about autism, Inside Our Autistic Minds. In the first episode he told Flo’s story; a young woman who, in her spare time is an improvisational…

The Golden Mole by Katherine Rundell
A wake-up call, raising awareness of the truly wonderful creatures which inhabit our wonderful world and how unlikely they are to thrive
Chris Packham, British naturalist and TV personality, is the reason that I read this book and I am so glad that I saw a clip of him on TV discussing how all of us MUST read The Golden Mole. He spouted some examples of facts that he had encountered on his reading of it and my interest was immediately piqued. Rundell’s book is an absolute gem in so many ways. Firstly, the way it is organised. Each…

Breaking the law in response to climate change
Stopping the fossil fuel industry is an environmental imperative. The question is how. New post on the next wave about the Chris Packham documentary on Channel 4.
(Chris Packham, ‘Is is time to break the law?’. Image: Channel 4) The Marxist cultural critic Raymond Williams once described TV as “flow”. He was writing in the days when you had to watch everything live, as it was broadcast, before even VCR was invented, and obviously we don’t watch TV like that so much any more. (Even though we use the word ‘streaming’). But there is a deeper truth all the…

Chris Packham criticising driven grouse moors 👏👏👏
How anyone can defend such a destructive, persecutory, cruel industry is beyond me.
