I finished @thechrispavon 's OC, Zane Artemis So shiny... + it glows in the dark too! :D It all started as a redesign an OC tweet. I already showed the sketch here. I took it many steps further into a full-fledged painting 0.0 B4 I actually added any color, I had to research + test out which black inks can cover shiny metallic watercolors well. The answer + winner was the Speedball *reads bottle* super black pigmented acrylic ink. (Acrylic, huh? Interesting) The next part was testing out the various dip pen nibs I already own. My go-to is the *reads nib* Hunt No.512 EX-Fine. The hardest part of inking/linearting with a dip pen is going over a previous line but ends up scratching it, or worse, when it doesn't flow or it needs to be dipped again. That was a struggle for reapplying the lineart after coloring. I outline the sketch so I know where to color, + then (heavily) reapply the ink to make it pop out. It worked :P The fun part b4 coloring was actually painting the whole figure with holographic glitter X3 (specifically, Ugly Holo by @iuilewatercolors) The hair had to be specific with the colors as well as how I was approaching it. Took me 6 tries + a small-scale test to find what in looking for + satisfied with. 1. Imperial Blue by @cactusikart_colors for the base color 2. No. 191 by @iuilewatercolors for the color-changing tips of the hair 3. X-mas Blue by @iuilewatercolors for the 1st layer of hair shine 4. Sondheim by @reneeissancecolours for the 2nd layer of hair shine 5. Permafrost by @stayceeillustrations for the highlight + brightest part of the hair shine Inner ears were "Prism" + gold parts were "Golden Leaves" by @lisilinka X) I repeated the process for the tail but wanted to add more... texture? Fluff? The tail was definitely satisfying + the best part X3 The bottom was tricky, I admit, bcuz I didn't want to make it the same color as the tail. Solution: mix a variety of blues + a black in a porcelain plate + hoped for the best. I actually screwed up a couple times with the coloring of the pants. Part 4 of 4 of the Zane Artemis Collection of 2022 X) (it has a nice ring to it) This OC, Zane Artemis belongs to @thechrispavon The most recent doodle of this OC :) Started off as a prompt to redesign this OC for fun. Initially, i was actually struggling on coming up with a pose. I looked back at the warm-ups from my recent figure drawing class. Best decision ever! Also, I attempted to give him a little more chub in his belly bcuz he's likes food too X3 Plus, it does feel refreshing from drawing 6-packs + looks a little more natural :) Head angle's improved, the hair is on point, + I added the grapes so he's not empty handed. It fits! XD *proud of me* Now for the clothes. The pants were easy >X) The top was hard. I looked into my closest for inspiration. What caught my attention was a gray + black striped hoodie from Vans. Then I added elements of what I usually wear. Most notable is definitely the bandana more than the "super sash" X) *thinks about sending this to my figure drawing/animation teacher to show appreciation + how his class/lessons helped* I do plan to color this with shiny metallic watercolors. I highly doubt I'll finish in time for xmas so I'll save this for New Years :) When the time comes for coloring the top, I need to step back to see what (other) colors could work. As of last night, I got the skin + inner ears done 👍 I plan to do errands/last-minute shopping b4 work in the afternoon (bcuz the morning cold is brutal rn). I will thank you yet again for letting me play with this OC thru out the years. I hope this brings smiles every time 😁 Will I stop? Most likely no 😅 I'll let you guys enjoy the xmas eve in peace. Part 3 of 4 of the Zane Artemis Collection of 2022 X) (it has a nice ring to it) This OC, Zane Artemis belongs to @thechrispavon I put two shiny metallic watercolor doodles in one part :) The 1st one: I like this one a lot more than the 2nd one X3 I can tell I had fun with this one. Oh man, the way the tail glitters! I remember now. Rainbow pencil for the sketch. I used two very important colors from @reneeissancecolours , Advent 24 + Sondheim (blue). Unfortunately, I used too much of the Advent 24 that I had to "neutralize" it with black for the lineart :( I honestly didn't think the hair would turn out spectacular. The dark parts of the hair, I used an Ultramarine blue from @danielsmithartistsmaterials . Of course, theres No. 81 from @iuilewatercolors for the light(er) blue parts of the hair :) I think this one was an excuse to try out a glass pen, a dip pen, + a fluid writer. I've been leaning towards using a dip pen lately. Especially for lineart (will talk about that some other time). 2nd one: This felt like an accidental eureka moment: skin with watercolor. How many times have I done experiments with this OC? 😅 Bcuz of this little method I discovered + written down, it's been my go-to combo for skin coloring (Thank you!). 1. Rose Gold (Base) 2. 2nd layer of Rose Gold (1st dark) 3. Naples Yellow Red from Vagh Goh (2nd dark) 4. #31 - Peach Cobbler from Prima 5. Mondo #6 - Peach from Mondo Llama (Lightest) 6. Any interference watercolor (1st hilite) 7. Any white watercolor (2nd hilite) 8. Glowing Peach from @artezaofficial (for darkest areas) 9. #10 - Cocoa from Prima (it says "under nose shadow") 10. Any black watercolor (lineart) Feels weird to do lineart AFTER coloring :P I forgot to also mention that I also used the rose gold watercolor to sketch this too. And... I'm out of time. -2° but the windchill makes it -26° D: I gtg get ready for work + bundle up now. Who knows if I'll end up delivery driving today. Part 2 of 4 of the Zane Artemis Collection of 2022 X) (it has a nice ring to it) This OC, Zane Artemis belongs to @thechrispavon (IM ALIVE!!!) I definitely remember where I was + what I was thinking about. I was eating Chipotle outside one day after work. Since I was gaining the power to draw faces, "I wonder what would happen if I use a person's face for my OCs?" Initially I thought of celebrities but the amount of choices were very overwhelming. Next thought was my face with my OC but nah. Mai faice iz tu ugalay XP So... I stole Chris' face. (Man, I sound evil/maniacal here). The sketch turned out so nicely 😭 I saved that sketch pic in case I f***ed it up. I'm so glad I did. Part 1 of 4 of the Zane Artemis Collection of 2022 X) (it has a nice ring to it) This OC, Zane Artemis belongs to @thechrispavon Earlier this year, I was reminiscing of the past again. This dork made me chuckle. I hesitated on uploading this oldie-locks bcuz I feel that I shouldn't be doing time traveling when I dont need to. Plus, I needed the perfect opportunity. Thus, xmas XD (well, in 3 days). A series of expressions here. I actually like how the white in his eyes stand out from the toned paper. The 6th I feel like I make the most bcuz of constant defeat 😅 I like how loveable he looks in the 1st expression X3 I need more of that energy he's protruding in the 4th one. Seems like I used a rainbow pencil, a mechanical pencil, a few copics, + a 0.9 pencil with white Sewline lead for the highlights X3 More to come thru-out the day + tomorrow. Thought I'd show something interesting this time: rubber hose doodles (from my Visual Concept Development class). Well, most I recreated from @kevcraven to get a sense on how he draws the rubber hose style. Then I was able to do some on my own here + there. I even borrowed @thechrispavon 's OC, Zane Artemis for fun + curiosity (I apologize in advanced if I made him cursed-looking. If I did, then I can commence Operation: Dial "R" 4 Redemption). I highlighted the numbers in blue of the ones I liked the most. (3, 10, 11, 16, 18, 21, 26, + 28). I could go onto details but I'm getting tired for the night. Oh! Bonus for making one of my OCs, DaArk inspired by Mr. Mime from the Powerpuff Girls. I did draw that again in the doodle notebook for more curiosities + playing around with that idea for fun. I used a light blue Faber-Castell brush pen + a purple pilot needlepoint retractable roller ball pen :) Ah, its 11 PM rn. This is usually around the time I start yawning like crazy + then drift to sleep. (PART 6/10) 1st two are pencil doodles of thy OC's, Shikago + Lugon. Definitely like Lugon the most with that detail. Makes me still wonder how I can keep the sketchy-ness of the pencil + have vibrant, fun colors at the same time... I'll come back to that thought some other time. Making another appearance is @thechrispavon 's OC, Zane Artemis. Which reminds me, I have made a tag of this OC I've doodled over the years: #chrispavonszaneartemis . Nice collection, I think that to myself :) Then tried a few poses + tutorials. Worked well with my OC, Morei Sky.
