@thepretendershq Pretenders (2021 reissue, remaster, limited edition, red vinyl); Pretenders II (2021 reissue, remaster, limited edition, white vinyl). After watching Austinite @sydneychandler_ Sydney Chandler’s show-stealing performance Chrissy Hynde in @pistol Pistol, I realized I had NO Pretenders records- zero, nada, zilch! I saw the band open for The Who, 2006 & loved every minute! So I perused the band’s website & came across these two reissues (via Rhino Records). How the fuck have I never had these two outstandingly brilliant releases?!? I’m just blown away by Chrissy’s passionate songwriting & singing! All good credit due to the late Pete Farndon & James Honeyman-Scott, as well as Martin Chambers (still banging the skins in the band), but it’s Chrissy’s show! And, in the shadow of SCOTUS decision re: Roe v. Wade, I am reminded of the power of so many women who have rocked my world, helping me, a dumb ass dude, understand women making choices for their lives, in spite of prevalent sexism! I don’t post political views here, just focusing on the music I love via vinyl. But music is often political, influencing us. Chrissy is a contrarian & would probably tell me to fuck off trying to make her fit any sort of political box, though she’s always been outspoken, clear in her choice as a woman with a guitar & voice! Binged watched @hulu’s #Pistol today…not enough sleep this afternoon. It’s a decent flick, a little shallow & rushed in places, a little overextended in others. #SydneyChandler, exceptional portrayal of #chrissyhynde (better looking too!) as is #AnsonBoon as #johhnyrotten (who comes across sympathetically & caring, as opposed to #malcolmmclaren or #nancyspungeon, who both come off as, well, rotten!). I wasn’t quite 14 when @sexpistols played @longhornballroom (1978), didn’t know much about the band except they were “wild”. My parents allowed me to see @kissonline (they saw behind the makeup) but ABSOLUTELY refused my pleas to see the Pistols! Eh, sod it, I got the record!
