Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

Alive from Off Center was an anthology series on PBS that featured experimental short films by a mixture of up-and-coming and established directors. The series was canceled in 1996 after twelve seasons. For "A Tribute to Georges Méliès" (July 1989), this silent film pioneer's lost scripts were reinterpreted by modern filmmakers. (Top) Christopher Malavoy in "The Artist's Dream." (Bottom) David Rocheline and Daria Elies in "The Seven Deadly Sins."

Death in a French Garden

Death in a French Garden    [trailer]
A young music teacher, has an affair with the mother of his student. One evening, he is savagely attacked by an unknown man who tries to break his hands.
The summary doesn't do the sexual tension between all the characters justice. Everyone has highly personal and intimate conversations. And more or less everybody seems to sexually desire everyone. And it still feels normal. It's remarkable.
I liked the editing. Made for some very efficient transition between scenes.
The sight of ancient technology - tape cassettes, video cassettes, phones with a cord - made me smile.

Monte Carlo (2011) is a great movie and here’s why
You wouldn’t even care about the relationships. You’d care about how Grace and co. are going to survive in high society. You’re worried about how they’re gonna be found out. You’ll laugh at every faux pas they make. But you’ll also be touched at Grace’s compassion, at Emma’s optimism, at Meg’s cautious hope. You’ll be concerned at their relationships to each other, not to their relationships to their boyfriends. You’ll spend the entire movie laughing and smiling at these three girls who just wanted a vacation in Paris, France, and somehow ended up in Monte Carlo, Monaco with an expensive necklace to wear, people to impress, and an adventure they would never forget.

This is my final humiliation. You never loved me. You’re just as bad as the others.
