Songclan: Getting Started

Kinda miss the older background for this screen, but this looks cool too.

Gonna name this one Songclan.

Ohhhhhhh. Those are re-rolls of your options. Saves me from having to restart the creation process so much. I think I’m gonna re-roll again to see what I get.

Not my favorite coat patterns, but I’m out of re-rolls so we’ll work with this.

Classic mode is certainly interesting. Obviously, it’s closer in gameplay to the version I use for my other clangen stuff, just a different coat of paint.

I might come back to Songclan in the future, but for now, I’m gonna go try the other modes.

Currently in the developmental version, we have polymates! We also have a really awesome new screen where you can download your cats sprites!

Outside of that...you'll have to find out later! ;)

Ok yall! with the help of @greekstar and a very helpful person in my comment section I now have the link to the most recent version! 

My issue was I didn't have toe development version, i had the experimental! this link is to developmental! any clans made in the expanded mode will have illnesses!

she is a venegeful excellent speaker and had many pretty babies with her wives and i miss her everyday

Clan-Gen: CoyoteClan

Welcome to my new Clan on the developmental version of the next Clangen!! Very excited simply because of all the new possibilities in this even if it is developmental. So let's go on about these new kitties and how they're going to live !!

Originally started by Coyotestar several hundred seasons ago, these cats thrived by the ocean. They made the gulls and fish their favorite meals, and lounged by the seaside peacefully. Only every once in a while would they have to deal with an aggressive seal or other animal that wandered onto their shores. Generally peaceful and social, these cats are easygoing but fiercely protective of each other when a threat does arrive.

Some moons ago, their camp was attacked by a lost dogs who'd found their way into their camp. Many died but those who escaped quickly found refuge in some tide pools and caves, hiding their scents until the beasts left for good. Their Clanmates were mourned for, but with both the leader and deputy having been killed, Mossfall self appointed Chiffinchbite to be their new leader. Following his new leadership, Chiffinchstar quickly appointed Gullear to lead alongside him.

Having only barely recovered, these cats are still on high alert and heavily mourning their deceased Clanmates, but their tragedy seems never ending. When Chinffinchbite had gone to gain his nine lives, all of StarClan had seemed to disappear except for one cat— Pipernight, a silver bengal molly with a sharp attitude and the determination of a seagull. She informs them that they've all disappeared except for her, and that they need to figure out how to bring the rest of StarClan back or anymore dead may be forced to wander as ghosts for the rest of eternity. This is their journey.

VenomClan's save is busted and I cannot bring them back

I knew there was a chance of this on the version of the developmental game that they were on

however

I wasn't expecting it

so if I do another ClanGen thing

it'll be on a different, more updated versions

but right now I will miss my funky little cats

Hey, where did you get your clangen download? I have what I think is the latest version and it doesn't look like that?

it’s the developmental version! there’s 3, experimental, dev, and main/itchio. experimental is where everything gets tested so there’s a lot of bugs and such. the dev one is for after stuff gets tested but still might have some leftover bugs (i mean, so far it’s been fine for me, but i haven’t played long). and the main one on itchio is the most stable and i think the same as its been since aug 10?

anyway this is the developmental game and once you download those files there’s a tutorial for running it since it’s a bit different than the aug 10 version (note: there’s an important update in the desc of the tutorial video!)

i also recommend joining the discord server! there’s tons of people in there that can help with any tech problems, people modding the code, people sharing their clans, etc. i used to talk fairly often when i played the game before but right now i mostly lurk and search for answers to any issues i run into

What version of clangen do you have, it looks awesome!

The experimental one! It has a bunch of neat features (like a Dark Forest!!!) and also doesn’t take a glacial age to save like the developmental version does! It also gives you the history of where cats got their scars!

Expanded Mode has features to it now, and this shall be what mode this new series of filler will be in. If you have any ideas for what to do with this series in addition, please let me know.

This has been confusing me for a long while: what exactly is the dev and official version?

For example I started playing clan gen by clicking on well...'clangen' in the extracted file after you download it.

So I guess my question is, if you use it without thonny is that the dev version? or is it installing it via a link that's called 'development version' that makes it dev.

(Sorry this question is so confusing, I really don't know how to phrase it.)

The "official" or "stable" version is the one you can get from our itch.io page. As it's name suggests, it's the most stable version of the game. It's been thoroughly bug-tested and is updated in big chunks whenever we feel that an update meets our standards of stability.

The "dev" version is the one you can get from the developmental branch of our github page. This version is very unstable and will frequently break. Saves made on the dev version are generally not backwards compatible to the stable version and we don't prioritize dev save conversion, so your saves may break or lose information. This is where we work on coding new features to the game, so many people like to play it in order to have access to those features. But, and I cannot stress this enough, we do not recommend anyone plays dev if they aren't one of our official beta testers and we do not offer dev tech support to anyone except our official beta testers. If you play dev, you play at your own risk and you will not receive any help beyond what's found in our discord faq.

Keep in mind that github hosts all our source code versions, which includes source code for the stable versions of the game. The itch.io version is a packaged version, while github has source code versions. Source code just means that you're able to open up the game's code and read or modify it as you wish. Source code is also something you have to run via command line or an IDE if you want to play the game. Thonny is an IDE.
