Even the Hardest Heart Can be Moved
“I don’t think it’s a big deal.”
“Well, you wouldn’t.” Dean ground his molars together. This guy!
Sam continued, shaking his head, “I don’t think any less of you, Dean.”
“That’s because you don’t think anything about me at all.”
Sam attempted to look concerned, but gave it up. “I don’t wish you ill…” Like that was pretty close to caring.
Dean just ripped off the gauzy, iridescentwhatever—that he was wearing and threw it at Sam’s head. Fairy dust glittered on Sam’s hair and shoulders.
“I mean, you look real pretty,” Sam offered.
Dean glared at him and finished removing his green slippers.
“Servicing Oberon, King of the Fairies, is an honor, Dean.” He let a smirk form on his lips.
Dean launched himself at his brother, but after the first hit, Sam held Dean in a bear hug until Dean settled down, defeated.
“You gonna hit me if I let you go? Dean?”
Dean shook his head silently.
Sam released him. “OK, then… Did you get shorter when you were over there?”
Afterwards, they couldn’t look at each other. Dean didn’t want to see Sam’s smug face. And Sam? He couldn’t get the vision of glittery, naked Dean out of his head. It was almost like… he was now interested in Dean, despite not having a soul. He had a lot to think about as he pressed the ice pack to his black eye.

DEAN
Yes, you sit in the dark and feel the loss...
No you couldn't because you would be suffering, and you can't just turn that off for the night.
SAM
Why not?
DEAN
Because if you had a soul, your soul wouldn't let you.
SAM
So you're saying having a soul equals suffering.
DEAN
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.
If you're ever wondering I'm thinking about Dean's idea of a soul and care for others is needless suffering that you can never turn off when they're in danger. That you're soulless to experience anything else if your loved one is gone even if you're doing everything you could.
"So you're saying having a soul equals suffering" lines that twirl around in my head every day.
