Synopsis: Set in S5E5, in THAT scene, the first part consist of dialogue by the one and only J Fellowes, all credits to him. I explored a little what could have been. Please be aware that there is some discussion of SA in this story, so don't hesitate to skip

Quiver by @ohtobealady (smut & angst) (Prompts: quiver / "I didn't mean it.") Synopsis: I used the dialogue as inspiration. It works as a bit of a companion piece to Ch 4 of Le Langage des Fleurs.

Cobert Winter Fanfic Exchange 2023 by @juliasdowntonstuff (Prompts: laceration / "You don't have to be so brave with me.") Synopsis: This is set after S6E5 (the bloody dinner episode)

Horse Ride by @sarakmm (Prompts: evanescent / "I already forgave you. I think it's time you forgive you, too.") Synopsis: Edith is injured during her first ride on a horse.

The Pearls by @whydidnttheyaskcora (Prompts: trepidation / "You didn't do anything wrong.") Synopsis: The premise is taken from the Tumblr thread about 'the guilt pearls'. While in London for Rose's wedding, Robert decides to spoil Cora with an expensive gift, while Cora still grapples with the incident surrounding Mr. Bricker.

Smut

Tryst by @bella-caecilia (Prompts: tryst / "I needed this, needed you.") Synopsis: Set somewhere around S1 in the summertime, Robert plans to take Cora out on a special rendezvous while she hopes for more than just a sweet, innocent time together. Somehow they end up in a very improper situation under the stars.

NaNoWriMo Entry #2

Pearl

July, 1891

“Robert, I don’t know what was so important-”.

His lips were upon hers and the rest of her words were swallowed into the depths of his soul as he covered her mouth so completely she gasped for air. Hands, greedy to feel every inch of her, pressed into the tender places that made her squirm with pleasure. Eyes closed, pops of light burst behind her lids as he pinched and caressed and pulled. Her mind spiraled into a dizzying freefall, all thoughts of seating charts and flower arrangements interrupted. There was no longer thinking, just a frenzy of feelings and impulses as her own hands instinctively responded, manipulating him in the ways he liked, making him groan and pant as he backed her into the wall.

She felt the absence of his hand and heard the small click of the lock, the knob secured against intrusion. It was like the release of a dam, both of them becoming more frantic in their movements, tearing at skirts and clasps and buttons. The loss of clothing made her hot skin prickle with gooseflesh and her shiver only fueled Robert’s need as he pushed her onto their bed and topped her. Finally finding the friction she craved as his body filled every blank space on hers, Cora rocked against him, taking him deep and holding him tightly. Their undulating rhythms quickened, and their release crested at the same time, both of them crashing against each other with each pleasurable and delicious wave.

When they’d both stilled, Robert collapsed beside her, his head resting on her sweaty shoulder, is finger tracing patterns above her breast. The tip touched the string of pearls still roped around her neck. She could feel one of the beads cradled in the hollow between her collar bones and that was the one he played with, pushing it back and forth lazily. The jewelry had been a gift from him after Mary’s birth and had quickly become one of her favorite pieces. 

“I should have thought on this more, when I bought it.” Robert leaned upward on his elbow, his face hovering over hers and his eyes directed onto the pearls.

“Hmm?” Cora felt drowsy suddenly, the carnal exertion adding to the almost constant fatigue she felt as the mother of an infant. 

“It covers my favorite spot!” Robert’s pout made her chuckle, and slowly his head dipped lower and he suckled the spot the pearl had occupied. The attention, the lingering kisses that grew more passionate, set her flesh tingling once again. 

“The suprasternal notch.” Cora’s voice cracked as his hand slid up the length of her body, as it cradled the slope of her breast. 

“Whatever it is, it’s glorious.It’s mine.” Robert’s mouth covered hers and her hips lifted in response, the pearls forgotten as they sailed towards release for a second time.

This from Violet is so...huge. It's canon-definingly, character dynamics huge.

Violet is giving her last breath approval to everything Robert is and has done. How tender are her words to her son??! She's thanking him essentially for the life she has been afforded, the family he has given her. Because of his choices. His choice to marry Cora obviously being the biggest. That choice produced her grandchildren, great-grandchildren; ensured that not only would the Crawleys stay at Downton, Violet's own bloodline would stay at Downton. It was that choice that set all of their fates into motion.

Cora - it's always been assumed Violet disliked Cora from the start - too American and not one of "them". But I have a suspicion that NO ONE would have been good enough for Robert in Violet's eyes and so it was never really Cora, and it was never really her Americanness but Robert was just too good for anyone, according to Violet. And clearly she had doubts whether Cora would last. I think the friction between Violet and Cora was more from fear than dislike.

“Whatever I have wanted, dearest boy, you have given me long before now and many times over. But don't let that come between us now. You are far kinder than I have ever been.”

“Cora, I owe you an apology. I didn't think you'd last the course. But I was wrong.”

Hallelujah, I am finished with the semester! I can now catch up on fanfics and write the reviews that they rightfully deserve. I am ready to have a cozy cobert winter!

19: Fanfic you read again and again

Oh, that's a tough one, because there's a few out there that I find myself gravitating back to time and time again. But if I had to chose, I'd say "Things Given To Tomorrow" by @ohtobealady (this one hurts so good and I am sad it's finished now, because I just went back and read it again whenever new chapters were being published) and "From Paris To Yorkshire" by Countess of Cobert (I don't know their @ on here, of even if they have one). Those two fics are so amazingly well written — don't make me pick one.

23: Age when you started reading fanfic

I believe I was about 13 when I joined Wattpad and read so many (well, few) good and (mostly) bad Harry Potter fanfics, but it is what it is, right? We all have to start somewhere at some point. Having been the fool that I was, I never checked other sites. Like, Fanfic and ao3 have only recently become my best buddies and the difference in quality? Oh myyyy, was I stupid…

24: funniest fandom-related story

Not sure if this is directly fandom-related… But four separate friends of mine who do not know each other have told me years ago to watch Downton Abbey, that I'd enjoy it. I believe this was ca 2015/2016, right when the og series ended. I just didn't think they'd be right. They tried again and again. Why would I ever find myself interested in some soap opera about the British aristocracy? Fast-forward to early 2023 when my mum finally got us Netflix. She binged the show when she was sick and talked about it non-stop, so I caved and watched it finally so that I at least knew what she was talking about. Needless to say… I've been obsessed with it ever since I gave it a shot. My friends have all been right and they do tease me about it very regularly, it's become a running gag for all of us and I am the butt of the joke.

Similarly, my best friend has been nagging me for years to finally join tumblr and I refused every single time. Obviously, I caved at some point last year and I am glad I did. So many lovely people on here!

Moral of the story: I guess I should just start listening to my friends more.
