A Shit Day
So I am one of the many people with PTSD and sometimes, the day is just shit. I am jumpy as fuck, constantly thinking someone is behind me. Barely made it through training, don't remember how or when I got there today. It has been one long day of reoccurring flash backs, and feeling like my chest was going to explode.
I haven't been to therapy for a while now because I am working and don't have time to go. Sometimes I feel as if I am not strong enough to handle the challenges that are in front of me, yet I know I am. If I am able to retain a job is questionable at best. I try but always seem to find something about them that I don't like. However, the job I am at now seems very cool and very good. The trainer today saw I was struggling and asked me if I was ok. This is one of the best places I have worked since being diagnosed with PTSD. The stuff I see if a bit triggering, but I look at it from the standpoint of I see it so no one else has to.
Right now I am just laying in bed waiting for my medication to kick in and hopefully put me down. I haven't slept well in about a week, so I am well overdue.

PTSD
A Paramedic with PTSD fell into a hole and couldn’t get out. When a senior medic walked by, the paramedic called out for help, but the senior medic yelled back, "Suck it up son, dig deep and drive on," then threw him a shovel. The paramedic did as he was told and dug that hole deeper.
A Paramedic Supervisor went by and the paramedic called out for help again. The Supervisor told him "use the tools your supervisor has given you", then threw him a bucket. The paramedic used the tools and he dug the hole deeper still and filled the bucket.
A psychiatrist walked by. The paramedic called, “Help! I can’t get out!” so the psychiatrist gave him some drugs and said, "Take this. It will relieve the pain and you will forget about the hole.” The paramedic said "thanks" and followed his advice, but when the pills ran out he was still in the hole.
A well-known psychologist rode by and heard the paramedic's cries for help. He stopped and asked, “How did you get there? Were you born there? Did your parents put you there? Tell me about yourself, it will alleviate your sense of loneliness.” So the paramedic talked with him for an hour, then the psychologist had to leave, but he said he’d be back next week. The paramedic thanked him, but he was still in the hole.
Another Paramedic, just like him, happened to be passing by. The paramedic with PTSD cried out, “Hey, help me. I’m stuck in this hole!” and right away the other Medic jumped down in there with him. The paramedic with PTSD started to panic and said, “What are you doing? Now we’re both stuck down here!” But the other Medic just smiled and replied, “It’s okay, calm down brother. I’ve been here before..... I know how to get out.”
* Having a good friend that understands is all you need to start recovering... you're never alone even though it might seem that way at times. *
Please reach out to someone if you are struggling.

It is up to us to save our own lives.
We call code strokes, code STEMIs, and code traumas. It is time we called a code alert on our own mental health. If someone is having a medical emergency that needs rapid intervention, we will tell the hospital that the patient is having a “code” emergency. This time, we are calling a code alert on our mental health.

Code Green
I’d like to thank everyone who has reblogged my Code Green Campaign post. Today marks one month since losing a close friend, first responder, and USMC Veteran to mental illness. Hopefully by continuing to reblog and share, we can work to raise awareness about mental illness in emergency responders and military personnel. Hopefully as a team we can help prevent more tragedies like this from occuring.

Story #19.26
I didn’t ask for PTSD… it asked for me on that calm fall night. He didn’t knock on my front door nor did he announce he was coming. Like the coward in the woods, he laid low until the perfect time where he took his shot and took over.
Sept 12, 2014. I was the first lieutenant of my fire dept at 22. I was on top of my game young passionate and confident. Did I know it all? Hell no, but just…

Story #19.13
I was going through an advanced EMT clinical and doing very well in the program, showing up to each clinical on time and ready to go. It was a Friday and I was scheduled to be at my clinical site at 8 am and I was 10 minutes early. Meeting with the EMS crew everything was just like any other clinical I had been to and somewhat better at first.
We got a call at about 9:30 am for a motor…

Story #19.09
I would like nothing more than to share my success story. Truth is, my story will likely end in tragedy. In the end, we are nothing more than a mere statistic. We may have crossed paths over the years. Nonetheless, I used to be there for you, your loved ones, friends and neighbors. Through countless nights, weekends, holidays, rainy days and horrific days, I absorbed a part of your darkest…
