HECK YEAH JON KENT!!!! MY FAVORITE SUNFLOWER ALIEN!!

First impression

The only issue I had with him at first was he didn't look like the Jon I was used to seeing in the comics, that's all. I watched the pilot episode the night it aired, he became my baby boy almost instantly, and I got pissed he didn't get powers.

Besides that, I thought the show was gonna make him mean and full of himself just because he was a jock and to make Jordan seem better. Thankfully I was wrong.

Impression now

I am normal about him. So normal about him. I totally don't think about him and his horrible life all the time. The fact that he's the glass child of the family doesn't make me wanna curl into a ball and cry 🙂 I'm lying he destroys me emotionally

Favorite moment

JUST ONE??? Ummm that's hard because every time he gets his limited screentime it's always something to remember whether it's because he made me cry or laugh

But I guess if I had to choose I'd pick the kitchen scene from Holding The Wrench. Seeing him go off on people and break the "son who's supposed to sit and smile no matter what" role he's been put into is always a highlight. The scene when he yells at Jordan for spying on him is amazing too.

It was always so impressive to me how Jon could go from adorable golden retriever to giving off a genuine threatening/intimidating feel in a snap.

Idea for a story

All my story ideas for him that aren't chapters in Escapism are episode/scene rewrites. Examples would be:

- having him be poisoned by kryptonite when Jordan was because he's Kryptonian, he absolutely should be harmed by kryptonite, powers or no powers.

- some hurt/comfort focused on him and Clark in the hospital after Jordan broke his wrist.

- Possessed Tal-Rho taking him instead of Jordan just because that's what I thought was gonna happen and still am disappointed it didn't.

Unpopular opinion

I dunno if this is really unpopular because I've seen a lot of people say similar things but s3 Jon and s1 - 2 Jon aren't the same character. It feels like the show rebooted his character and only kept the "he's the nice brother" from previous Jon.

They erased so many of his character traits and what made me like him so much in season 3. It's sad.

Favorite relationship

Jon and Clark.

They're relationship is so interesting to me because it went from good to terrible in one season. There's a lot to work with when it comes to angst, like the idea of Jon hating Superman and anything related to him at some point in his life because he's the son that got left behind for not being "super" enough, and seeing his father and brother is a reminder of that.

Favorite headcanon

He has adhd but isn’t diagnosed because his parents are too busy focusing on Jordan to notice what he's experiencing.

Other than that hc, I like to think he can draw pretty well. Since he doesn't get to be open with his emotions, he decided to draw them as a way to express what he's feeling. They're all in a journal under his bed and he would freak out if someone found and looked through it.

First impression

Oh baby boy. Such a sweetie pie 🥺 *watches Asylum* Whoa! This show is actually letting Gar have a character besides goofy sidekick?? This just got so much more interesting.

Impression now

So that was a fucking lie. Buttt.. if I wrote out my true impression of him now we'd be here all day so imagine I'm unfolding a comically long list of my Gar thoughts because there’s a lot. The less the show did with him, the more I got to over analyze and create from there.

Favorite moment

When he's left in the tower and just messes around for a few days. I re-watch it all the time. It's very relatable too, I get sad and unmotivated after a day without having people to talk to as well. Also that scene from s3 ep1 when he's talking to himself in his room, I love his silly facial expressions, and "nothing tops a Super" has been burned into my brain.

Idea for a story

Fic wise? You'll just have to wait and see 👀

Unpopular opinion

I don't think it's really unpopular but his hair is so bad. I wasn't a fan of it in s3 but s4 made it so much worse. I'm also not a huge fan of his suit but that's for "it looks cheap and plain compared to the other ones" reasons.. like the abs on it look like the kind you'd see on a Halloween costume. It's weird.

Favorite relationship

In canon.. I don't really know. Gar's character felt it went from "DickKory's son" level of importance to just "oh yeah that guy" throughout the seasons. Gar's relationships with the characters (besides Rachel) is pretty surface level imo, especially in seasons 3 - 4. But whatever Gar's relationship with the Red is seems cute. It changed it's realm color for him and looks to care about him a lot through what I saw in the episode. He's clearly the favorite child and I love that for him.

Favorite headcanon

I got one too many of those, but him being able to purr is always a great one, and acting cat-like at times. Empty box? That's his now. Left a cup on the island? It's pushed onto the floor. Nothing is safe. He might have left a dead bird somewhere as a gift too, who knows.

Precious girl. So precious. Must be protected at all costs. I really like this take on her powers and character.

Impression now

Much like Gar, she got the short end of the stick in the show tbh. She went from being the most important to a side plot thing which sucks. She should have had much more to do in season 4 since they were dealing with her family.

Favorite moment

I like a lot of her scenes in season 1 the most. Her interacting with the Doom Patrol was cute.

Idea for a story

That's your thing lol but I never liked how they always kept her stories tied to Trigon somehow in any media so I would give her a more unique story about something else.

Favorite relationship

She and Kory were my favorite for a long time but I've warmed up to her and Dick's father-daughter relationship because of you. So I choose them 💙🖤

Favorite headcanon

She's an artist who prefers painting over the other arm forms and painted something special for all the Titans members.

Cody you are brilliant! How did I not connect the dots that Liam Dunbar (the guy who you said is now titans!jon) and Jon Kent are so similar! They both have blues eyes and ya know what (Dylan Sprayberry the guy who plays Liam Dunbar) does look a bit more like Clark Kent and Conner Kent (I think it's the jawline, tbh). Also, Liam is such a sweetheart (with anger issues, he has ied). Oh and the love interest he has in the show (Teen Wolf) their characters don't mesh well together either. Like I adore Hayden, but their relationship was suffocating plus I headcanon her as a lesbian. Oh and that's right! He acted alongside Tyler Hoechlin (who played Derek Hale in the series)! Now I can totally see them as father and son!!!

I saw that Dylan played a young Clark too in Man of Steel so I think fan-casting him as Titansverse Jon Kent makes sense lol

I followed you for the great Gar content, and I've been enjoying the Godzilla content enough to want to watch everything. Any recommendations on where to start?

I don't have any fics left to spoil so uh have a random au idea

It doesn't have an official name but The Partnership au would fit and it's mainly an excuse to create a Titansverse Jon + give Gar a bestie that has no ties to the Titans. It'd be years after season 4 ended, Gar "graduated" champion school and is ready to go on missions on his own. At some point he gets in way over his head and the Red sends him to Metropolis to be paired up with Jon, who's a journalist (and part time Superboy) that can help Gar in completing his mission without more harm being done

At first Gar's like "eh no" because he doesn't have great memories working with people but the boys bond and get into some shenanigans together, all while trying to figure out a mystery or something like that

My Titanstober fics. I wasn't planning on writing anything Titans related for a while for reasons but my never-ending love for Gar and all the stroy ideas Halloween themed prompts could create motivated me enough to come out of the woods and write for Titans again.

Funnily enough, those two fics ended up being a couple of my favorites.

Is it emotional torture? is it uncomfortable due to how realistic it is? did it fill my head with imagery that made me wanna cry? yes, absolutely, but that's WHY I LOVE IT. It forever lives rent free in my brain and I'll be sending the author my therapy bill because of that fact.

Also!! my friend's sequel to her jaw dropping amazing Superman and Lois fic: "A Love Without End" dropped this year but I don’t wanna spoil anything 🤫 I already know too much since I'm the one ideas get handed to for thoughts and discussions. Hi Cody! I just thought of a cute garjon idea while I was swinging at the park. Gar and Jon go to the park in autumn for a date. They swing for a bit then end up going down to the water while sharing headphones, listening to their shared romantic playlist while watching the sunset. 💚🧡

I can see them trying to listen to a romantic playlist but they're both too goofy to do that so they'll end up listening to Let's Groove while hopping on the rocks around the lake

Gar falls into the lake btw and shapeshifts into a duck because his clothes are ruined anyway and gets carried the rest of the night

Hi, Cody! I would love to hear about the headcanons you have! 💚

Sorry this took so long! I was trying to think up what I wanted the hcs to be focused on and the talk of Titansverse Jon gave me a few ideas so enjoy ✨️

- He was born and raised in Smallville. Decided to check out Metropolis for the first time when the who Lex + Church of Blood thing started and he tagged along with Clark to investigate.

- Only child. His parents could barely raise him with their constantly busy lives, there's no way Clois could have handled another kid. I don't want Jordan here anyway. Comic canon characters only.

- He has powers, just doesn't use them a lot.

- Has a cat named Streaky. She's an orange tabby from Krypton and is a handful, full of personality and sass. Jon adores her.

- Meets the Titans at Star Labs and freaks out because he thinks they're so cool. He really likes Conner and wants to be brothers with him but Conner is very meh about him since Kon's going through that edgy phase and finds Jon annoying. Plus the whole same dad but you got to grow up with him thing.

- Best friends with Gar. They're the same age and get along like they've been friends forever. It makes Rachel a tad bit jealous (and worried) because she's already going through losing her only blood related brother and now Gar's, her first true friend, growing away from the Titans and seemingly moving onto a guy he's only known for a week at most.

- Wasn't planning on getting wrapped up in the Titans war with Mother Mayhem and Brother Blood but does. He gets bit by one of Mother Mayhem's snakes.

- His personality is a lot like his s&l counterpart's but is a little more shy and awkward. He's not as "run head first into danger" and "violence first" as s&l Jon is. But they're both incredibly sweet and protective.

- Being called Superboy might as well be an insult to him.

Is it weird that I think Gar (with the exception of Raven) would probably outlive all of the Titans? Like I just feel like him being connected to Red must extend his lifespan by like a lot. Hope you're having a great day!

I always thought the same thing tbh

He's not a human, kind of his own thing, so why should he age like one?

And he's already a pretty overpowered character who has enhanced healing, able to bring himself back to life (in Titans 2018) and could shapeshift into aliens if he really wanted to. Not aging like a human wouldn't be a crazy thing for him to do.

Then, of course, we could bring in the fact that Gar in Titans got his powers from Niles Caulder instead of his parents. And the rest of the Doom Patrol don't age at all (or very very slowly). But we don't know anything about Gar or what Niles did to him experiment wise.

The fact that Gar only turns to red animals because his favorite color is green and The Red being like, "Okay sweetie! I'll allow it 🥰" is so funny to me

Gar is the little sibling who gets whatever he wants because he's The Red's favorite and I love that for him he deserves to be favorited for once

I need The Red to have a human-ish form but super tall so they can carry their green bean son around

19. The most random ship you've seen people have with them

Gar and Bernard just because Gar looked at him while he was introducing STAR Labs to the entire team

But it's not surprising when you see how the fandom treats his character.

20. A weird headcanon

This one is more for Gar's character as a whole, not really just the Titans one

If he's feeling too much of one emotion, whether stress or excitement, he'll purr so loud you think he's gonna explode and dig his claws into whatever near him and knead it like a cat would. It's his powers weird way of getting him to calm down when there's way too much going on.

So turns out Ryan Wasn't gonna come back in this season of Titans if they didn't do anything with Gar this season and Let him be more involved with Gar's Storyline 😭

Seriously!!?? Omg good for him for putting his foot down and telling the writers what was gonna happen if they didn't treat him with respect. I'm honestly amazed they cared enough about him to listen though tbh

Finding out Ryan Potter Co-wrote this episode made me so happy! I hope DC lets him write a one shot comic like how Nicole Maines and Camrus Johnson were able to for Dreamer and Batwing

oh i would LOVE to see Ryan write more Beast Boy related things for DC. His version of the character is my favorite, he was perfect for the role.
