How to Tumblr via atty whilst brewing coffee
NEW POSTS: Over 10+ years I have found a comfortable flow of blogging a piece of art, and immediately adding it into the queue. I mix rambling posts and jokes with artwork because I’m charming and weird and gorgeous and modest.
REBLOGS: I sometimes “Roger Rabbit Shave and a Haircut” posts, which is to say there is a core message and an obvious hook I’m looking for someone else to add.
When someone reblogs with comment, or comments (which I add in my own reblog via screenshot), I complete the joke / ramble / etc. It works maybe 1/2 the time. When it doesn’t work, I move on.
They are frequently extremely successful and (from what I can tell via note collection) very enjoyable by a lot of folk.
QUEUE: I keep my queue posting 3-6 things a day, set at a 24-hour window, and have 150-200 things in it at any given time, 99% of which is not my stuff. Just things I like that are reasonably related to what I make -- and/or just like, it isn’t strict, thems words ain’t physics laws -- very broad brush stroke stuff.
I check the queue about once every few weeks to see how it is doing and release / hold back more posts based on how thick that forest is. There is no science, just casual observance.
Occasionally the queue gets a bit thin so I’ll spend a specific 20-30 minutes thinking “okay what haven’t I filled it up with for awhile” and then search TAGS for that and fill it up.
Which is to say that I make a thing and blog it here. It appears instantly, it appears again somewhere between a few weeks and a month, or so.
Sometimes I’ll remember a random old thing and run it through this again -- search it out, reblog it, add it to the queue.
NOTE GATHERING: When something starts picking up traction in notes, I throw it into the queue, so in a few weeks or a month or so it’ll appear on my blog. This takes advantage of the current attention-getting-reasons (almost always unknown) + gives it a shot at ringing bells once more in the future.
TAGS: When the shop was open, I tagged things more earnestly, and when the shop re-opens, I will tag things more earnestly, to assist in random discovery. Anything that goes untagged, I consider to be the cost of doing business -- which is to say it requires more effort to track down untagged things and apply a religious zeal to organization than is rewarded with new notes, followers, etc.
TRIGGER WARNING: The exception to my tagging non-system is trigger warnings, which I work hard to remember to do (”tw {comment}, {comment} tw”)
DISCOURSE: I do not participate. Once in awhile I’ll slip and get too deep into something because I Want to be Seen as Being Correct but the vast majority of the time I just roast a chicken and write about gay monsters.
I regularly ignore my ASK box because I’m not a chatty person. I completely ignore the CHAT box thing for the same reason.
FOLLOWER COUNT: I don’t look at it.
BETA: I hate the beta editor. I have historically found it crashes a lot so I turn it off. This is a knob in the upper right hand corner of your screen, conveniently labeled “BETA”

Bad News, Coffee Drinkers: You Might Be a Psychopath if You Like Your Coffee Black. https://www.rd.com/article/coffee-black-psychopath-study/ A study from the University of Innsbruck in Austria found a trend that suggested a correlation between preferences for black coffee and other bitter tastes, and sadistic or psychopathic personality traits. The study, published in the journal Appetite, surveyed almost 1,000 adults about their flavor preferences. They also took four different personality tests that assessed Machiavellian traits like narcissism, psychopathy, sadism, and aggression. Find out the most common signs you’re dealing with a psychopath—before it’s too late. They also found that people who enjoyed milky or sugary coffee, and other sweet flavors, generally tended to have more “agreeable” personality traits like sympathy, cooperation, and kindness. The closest correlation found in the study was between bitter foods, like radishes and tonic water, and “everyday sadism,” or the enjoyment of inflicting moderate levels of pain on others. The researchers went further, suggesting that this association between bitter foods and psychopathic tendencies could “become chronic” and get worse with time—not a great first impression. Plus, learn which U.S. state has the most psychopaths. But there is hope for you and your casual coffee date. The researchers made it clear that “bitter” is an extremely subjective term, and that may have limited their study. They also are unsure of what causes the correlation between bitter tastes and disagreeable personality traits. Health provided even more hopeful findings in 2018, when Steven Meyers, PhD, a professor of psychology at Roosevelt University, took a deep dive into the study for Health to examine its accuracy. Meyers found that the study found only a “very small association” between a taste for bitter things and the Machiavellian traits. “The findings need to be interpreted with caution,” he concluded. “The results would need to be replicated by others before they deserve widespread attention.” #coffeenews #blackcoffee #instacoffee #instagrahman (at Sudiang, Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIYWBvRpoVM/?igshid=1vtppds34p2me

Peddler Coffee, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
On a mini escape from New York City, I randomly decided to drive to Philly with my best friend Johnny. Why? Because it’s the closest big city for me to feel like I’m on vacation and know that I will still find good food and coffee.
My first stop was Peddler Coffee, listed as one of Eater’s top coffeeshops in Philly. Since I’ve never been before, I decided to take myself on a walk from my hotel this sunny Saturday morning.
The coffeshop is super cozy with exposed brick walls and reclaimed wood counters. I love the raw tree trunk table tops and dream about having tables like these in my coffeeshop back in Brooklyn. I learned that they roast their own coffee nearby and offer a hand-full of single-origin beans that you can get Chemex’d (”pourover”). The espresso is currently a single-origin “Santa Candida” Nicaraguan. I got a Chemex of a naturally processed Ethiopian from Guji Zone. It is “darkish” roasted with a really thick and juicy body almost like a melted dark chocolate. The flavors are well-balanced with notes of strawberry and fig jam and a hint of pineapple on the finish.
As I sit at the bar in the front window, drinking my coffee, I’m admiring the window decal of their geometric logo and enjoying how unusually warm it is on this February morning and honestly, just really excited to not be in New York City right now.
After enjoying tasty Cambodian street food (Khmer Grill) at the new Chinatown Square and a long touristy walk around Old City, I gps’d Ox Coffee for a little pick me up. I learned that one of the owners use to roast for Stumptown during it’s original incarnation on the West Coast. Ox Coffee recently began to roast their own coffee as well, of which, I had the Rawandan as filtered drip. It was quite “easy drinking” that I almost chugged my entire mug, with notes of dried apricot, cacao and a hint of blood orange. I like how small the initial place was though it did have more space around the back, including a quaint little backyard. There is no wi-fi (yay!) and the barista was super sweet and knowledgeable and even gave us recommendations for other cool local spots to check out. And of course, nothing is better than a local’s advice on where to eat and drink!
