colorado trail near spring creek pass (highway 149), july 2022

#it's all a blur i had to check my journal to figure out where this was #it was in the evening hiking out from a town stop. lake city if my journal is right and that would mean this was the hitch i got from the #couple on the road trip who told me all abt living in colorado and how obsessed they were #even with the winters #and i only did a few more miles that day but ended up night hiking to get to the yurt!!!!! which was my one and only night indoors for the #trip and it was fucking amazing i spread all my shit out and slept on a cot and ate so much junk food #whole place to myself #trail posting #colorado trail #oh and i saw a herd of elk that evening

Since retiring more than seven years ago (1/30/2015), I’ve sailed small boats three times to the Virgin Islands and Antigua (once through a hurricane), charted a sailboat with family and friends in the Virgin Islands, visited Italy for a total of five weeks and Paris for a week, hiked 1,946 miles of the Appalachian Trail, through hiked the 485 mile Colorado Trail and the 800 mile Arizona Trail and went on numerous other small adventures. colorado trail near cottonwood pass, june 2022

#this was another really fun hitch it was a trail angel who went like 10 miles out of his way for me #an old guy who did a lot of SAR and told me about a rescue last year that i think messed him up a little #anyways we got up to the parking lot and the couple that was hiking behind me the day before (i passed them at the sketch cornice at uh.#lake ann? mary lake? something like that)#and they were heading into town and got a ride back w him! perfect timing!#i was like so excited to see them cause i wasn't keeping pace with anyone really and there were hardly any repeat encounters like that #anyway journal says this day sucked and doesn't elaborate. im pretty sure it was amazing in the morning (see photo for fucks sake. hello)#but i do remember thunderstorm panic and hail and waiting in cold rain under a rock getting soaked for like an hour as one of the #lower points of the whole trip #but i saw my first bull moose in the evening! and i did big miles!#it was the first 10+ mile traverse above treeline. and so close to a parking lot like. you can literally just drive there and do a day hike #lets just everybody move to colorado what is the point of depriving ourselves by living elsewhere #trail posting #colorado trail #CT #tag journal #cottonwood pass

San Isabel National Forest, Colorado.

I headed up to the top of Galena Mountain, then examined the ridge to see if I could continue. I could and I did for nearly 3 more miles around the edge before dropping to Deckers Lake and the CDT/CT for an on trail return.
