We worked really hard today! Windy day, horses running around, calling out etc, and this kid had his game face on. I'm still focusing on riding him more forward and keeping him straighter, and we did a bit of counterflexion in the trot and canter, too. He was much better off my leg today, and I could tell he was genuinely trying hard for me - well, after he got his little throw down out of the way 😂💕 I ended up shortening my stirrups a hole at the start of the ride which is why I look a bit 'showjumper-y', but it was so I could ride a little stronger as my balance has been a bit crap. Weee, go Polka! 😆🚀 This little guy is just getting better and better every ride! Fixed the falling out through the outside shoulder going left, and focused on the 'go' button a bit more tonight. Still needs loads more work, but really happy with how hard he tried, and with how much straighter he was as a result. Much better listening to my outside rein, and we had a good little stretch at the end which i might pop a video up of later 😊 So rapt with my little spotty horse tonight, no attitude or throw downs - just got on with it like a gentleman... Aww Polka 💕 So love with this little horse, he's turning out to be such a cool dude! Can't wait to take him out to a few unofficial dressage days soon to get the ball rolling with him. Little snippet of Polka doing some stretching at end of our ride last night. I like to give them a stretch in warm up and cool down as it just gets them rolling along nicely without having to worry about much else - they just have to travel and relax 👌 This guy hasn't done heaps of it, but its definitely something I'd like to do more of with him as he just felt lovely! I wish this crappy weather would sod off! All week it's been high 30's and windy - horrible for the poor firies out there battling the bushfires, and today we have more high winds and a severe storm warning... Feeling sorry for the Queenslanders with the flooding, and those in the U.S with the #polarvortex ... I'm thinking Mother Nature needs to chill out! I suggest a block of chocolate, a big glass of @jackdaniels_us , and a @imsebastianstan movie - stat! 😂 Back in the gym tonight for some physio training and a run - if theres one thing I learned last year, it's that dressage riders are absolute athletes... Getting stronger! 💪💕I love how hard this little guy is trying lately, theres such a huge difference in him from the naughty, stubborn horse he was 6 months ago to now. We spent a fortune ruling out any issues with his gear, back, teeth, diet, or anything else we could think of, and as it turned out all he needed was work. Okay - pretty safe to say the spotted child is feeling good! I ended up just giving him a quick spin in a halter just to see where his brain was at, and despite the initial acrobatics, he was actually fairly polite. Hey everyone! 😁🙋🏼‍♀️ . Another huge couple of days here on the farm - as soon as we get nice days we go crazy getting things done! 😂🙈 . Yesterday both thoroughbreds came in for groundwork. Bonsey was amazing as usual, and because of the foundation we've laid - he hardly batted an eye for whip desensitising 💪😁 . I've got one of those carrot stick things rather than a proper whip, as I find they're easy to handle - and they make a loud noise when you whip the ground. Initially he wasn't impressed, but within minutes in he was happy for me to fling it over his back without so much as a flinch. 👌 I've also been desensitising his ears as he hates the near side ear being touched. He may possibly have been ear twitched at some point in his life, but either way its something we can help him get over 💕 . Geoffrey's first ground work took much longer than Bonsey's did by comparison. We found he'd rather run himself to death or turn his ass to me than turn in and rest - we did get there eventually though! 😂🤦‍♀️ Round 2 tomorrow morning - I'll report back with my findings! . Dakota's had a couple of dressage lessons this week and is going great guns with a few things we've been working on 👌 Riding corners, more accurate 20m circles, correct leads, and better transitions. SUPER proud of how well she's riding! 😍 . And last but not least - today we pulled a fence line out to increase our riding area to 60m to set a dressage arena up! Hey everyone, sorry for the inactivity this week! I've been working heaps and just haven't had the chance to ride unfortunately 😪 The motivation is there, as is the horse and the time during the day, but I'm now temporarily without my spotter/ground crew due to his work commitments! 😫 A bit frustrating, but I'm sure we'll figure it out like we always do. At the moment I'm working my boy from the ground, and that's been great to keep him ticking over in between rides. He's actually been quite soft and forward since being in the Pessoa, so I'm taking that as a good thing! So in love with this cutie, and having a ball with him at the moment. To be honest I was pretty bummed initially that our new job schedules meant I'd be riding less, but its actually been a blessing! I've been working Polka from the ground quite a bit, and because my opportunities to ride have become less and less, I've been much more motivated to take them whenever I can - even when its windy, dark or raining. Beggars can't be choosers! 😂🙌 The work from the ground has made me a fairer rider, as I've now got a better idea of when he's being naughty, or when he's genuinely finding something hard. It's also meant that he's fitter and more supple between rides, which means we get more out of every workout!
