Slavic Language Tag
I was tagged by @coloursnlanguages to do this tag. Apologies if I mess up, I’ve become accustomed to speaking English more often where I live. I also read the questions aloud, was I supposed to??
Figuring out how to get audio on here was a hassle so I just used SoundCloud like Tanya.
https://soundcloud.com/user-324377065/slavic-language-tag

I was tagged by @polnitsch (thanks, buddy <3)
Rules: tag ten others and share your answers
1. What languages are you/have studied?
I’m studying: Russian and Korean
I’m learning: English, Czech and Latin
I was learning: German and French
2. How long have you been studying?
I’ve been studying Russian for 2 years (but I started learning Russian in high school), Korean for 1 year
I’ve been learning English since I was 5 years old? Sth like that. Czech and Latin for 1 year
German and French - 3 years (I’m no longer interested in those languages)
3. Did you learn through class or self-study (or both)?
Through class but I have to do a lot after uni to keep up with others
Uni and private classes
4. Why did you decide to learn this language?
English - bc this language is almost necessary
Russian - I’ve been in love with this language since I was a little kid. My aunt was studying Russian philology (”Girl, don’t go there, this university is a shit” - As you can see, I haven’t listened to her, but she was right) and it was my first encounter with Russian language and culture. Then I went to Petersburg and it was the end of me.
Korean - there were two reasons. The first one shows my arrogance and ignorance for Asian languages, so I rather not to talk about it. The second one - I had been so bored at Russian philology that I decided to choose another field of study. So here I am :)
Czech - I had to choose so called “a second Slavic language” - Czech or Croatian. The choice was pretty easy.
Latin - I fucking have to.
* German - my mom enrolled me on a course when I was 7-9 years old
* French - I didn’t want to learn German in middle school
5. What was a major highlight/milestone in studying this language?
English - being able to read fanfictions without dictionary. Seriously.
Russian - talking and understanding native speakers AND knowing how to use participles AND 2 PPL SAYING TO ME THAT THEY DON’T HEAR ANY ACCENT AT ALL.
Korean - no milestone yet
Czech - no milestone yet
Latin - go fuck yourself
6. What was the hardest thing about studying this language?
English - advanced grammar and articles
Russian - participles and stress
Korean - listening and understanding a text
Czech - FALSE FRIENDS
Latin - everything bc I don’t give a fuck about high marks
7. What resources did you find most useful for studying this language?
English - you can laugh at me, but the most helpful resources are... fanfictions
Russian - music, books and many, many, many grammar exercises
Korean - writing little paragraphs, revising vocabulary and grammar till you die
Czech - reading and listening literally anything and making my own vocab lists
Latin - Idk, guys
8. Any top tips for studying this language?
Please, revise everything, even if you think “but it is so easy!”. No, the easiest things are much more forgettable.
9. What’s your next major language goal?
English - pass CAE test (C1 - C2)
Russian - being able to read complicated texts (C1 - C2)
Korean - being able to hold a small talk and understand basic conversations (B1)
Czech - being able to communicate in Czech (B2)
Latin - I want to forget about it
* Start learning Japanese or Chinese
10. Anything we can do in the tumblr community to get you there?
More grammar posts, please. Especially Czech ones.
Maybe @coloursnlanguages, @slav-reject and @mediocrelanguagelearner?
