Hello, simblrs! Allow me to introduce the DuRaul Mansion, Basic Edition. A luxurious, 3-bedroom mansion on one of the large plots at the outskirt of Studio Town, a favorite neighborhood for Simlywood stars and showbiz sims.

DOWNLOAD (SFS) the Basic Edition

The Basic Edition (174MB file size after compression) contains the architectural elements and furnitures but not the decorations and clutters (except a few Maxis ones). The house is pre-cleaned using Chris Hatch's lot cleaner. I also recommend using the CleanInstaller to install the lot package. Due to file size limit, the full version of this mansion cannot be directly uploaded to file storages. However, a list of included and recommended cc is here.

For my followers who would like to get the mansion as it is shown in the previous posts, I also offer a Deluxe Edition option (see below the house tour).

PART 1: HOME SAFETY HOTLINE

Home Safety Hotline was released on January 16, 2024 by indie developer and publisher Night Signal Entertainment. The premise is simple: you, the player, are a responder for the Home Safety Hotline, a company that deals with home hazards ranging from the normal to the fantastical. In the developer's own words, it was heavily inspired by analogue horror series such as Local 58 TV and Gemini Home Entertainment.

[Spoilers below the cut.]

The gameplay of this game is defined by a simple loop. Log on to your terminal, check your emails, watch any new videos that have appeared on your desktop, and then launch the HSH program. Once you have clocked in for your shift, you will take a number of calls from customers; each call acts as a riddle, and you must find the answer hidden in one of the Home Hazard entries within the database. There are two endings to the game, but we'll get to those later.

To start, it's clear that a lot of love and attention went into crafting each of the entries in the database. In the artbook unlocked by clearing the game, the developer showcases early concepts and talks about their design process, mentioning specifically how they would spend so much time painting creatures only to have the details blurred and lost due to the high compression needed to replicate a 1990's-era computer display. Each entry, from the mundane like House Flies to the mystical like the Dorcha, showcase a love for storycrafting and an attention to detail that's incredible.

It's also clear, even without the developer's own admission, that this game is heavily inspired by analogue horror, particularly Gemini Home Entertainment. The videos that unlock through the game all have the same distinct feeling of Gemini Home Entertainment. This is in no-small part due to them falling under the same general "categories": commercials interrupted by mysterious announcements, old educational videos with an unsettling twist, and hiking advertisements that warn about something lurking in the dark. From the analogue overlays to the soundtrack, these videos pay an homage to Gemini Home Entertainment while managing to be entirely original, a remarkable feat.

However, the developer's attention to detail—and there's quite a bit of detail, given just how many database entries the player will have unlocked by the end—highlights the core issue with the game, and one that many players have highlighted when leaving reviews:

The story itself is lackluster, with endings that feel abrupt and unrewarding.

As a disclaimer, I myself truly enjoyed working through the riddles presented by each caller and delving through the database for all of the little bits of lore I could find. Finding mentions of the ones who dwell above and below the soil in entries for creatures like moles and bats, feeling the resignation about the fate met by those stalked by the Dorcha, and listening to callers who had only made their situations worse by ignoring previous advice was fantastic. I truly felt like a beleaguered call-center employee dealing with things I didn't quite understand, guided only by an enigmatic and at times annoyingly cheerful supervisor.

That's why, when I cleared the game with a high enough accuracy and managed to pass the final day without answering a call incorrectly, I was disappointed by the ending I was presented with.

As stated previously, there are two endings to this game, both based on the player's ability to correctly answer the "riddles" of each day.

The good ending is obtained by maintaining at least 60% or higher each day and correctly answering each of Sunday's riddles. This requires the player to have at least skimmed each of the database's entries, as the database begins to corrupt on later days and is entirely inaccessible on the last.

Note: You might be able to bypass the 60% requirement for Monday-Saturday if you complete Sunday correctly, but I was only able to get the good ending by doing both.

In the good ending, the player is guided beneath the earth and out to the other side, where they are greeted by their supervisor, Carol, now in her true form as a fae entity. She greets the player and tells them not to be afraid before bequeathing them a simple crown and proclaiming them the new Junior Supervisor of Home Safety Hotline. As the credits roll, a myriad of fae folk emerge from the trees and begin singing in celebration of the player's promotion.

The bad ending is obtained incorrectly answering each of Sunday's riddles. It's actually quite easy to get this ending: simply select an incorrect response to every call you receive and Carol will, with great disappointment (and possibly resentment), turn you into a mouse.

Both endings utilize real footage, though it is also compressed to remain within the game's aesthetic.

Of the two, the bad ending is perhaps the most fully fleshed out within the game itself. From the first day, the player is greeted with almost unintelligible emails from a former employee littered with spelling mistakes caused, as you later find out, by him being a mouse forced to hop across the keyboard to type. This former employee invites the player to the safety of their hole and warns them of the danger before disappearing after the office acquires Whiskers the cat. A reoccurring prank caller is interrupted and begins squeaking after Carol "deals with him." There is also a video about a new, incredibly intelligent breed of mouse with strange-colored eyes whose noises translate to a plea for help.

The good ending, on the other hand, has very little set-up aside from the coupons that the player can earn by completing each day with at least 90% accuracy. On a replay, it's clear that these coupons are for the acquisition of items that a fae might find useful, and eagle-eyed players might realize that the Glamour Stone necklace awarded for Saturday is the same that Carol has been wearing from the start. There is also Carol's slow slide into using more archaic speech and mentions of the player being watched and evaluated for some purpose. However, when compared to the bad ending (particularly, if you decided to aim for low accuracy on all days, the actual consequences of your failure being reinforced by follow-up calls), the good ending feels tacked on.

Part of this can be explained by the creator's own comments on the matter. In the artbook, they state that while the game was being playtested before release, numerous people complained that the good ending felt weak when compared to the bad ending. The coupons were added in as a last minute attempt to flesh it out, but it's obvious that the bad end—even if never outright stated as such—is the one that players are expected to acquire.

In summary: Home Safety Hotline is an interesting dive into the blending of analogue and digital horror, created by someone passionate about both analogue horror and fae folklore. It has its pitfalls, but is ultimately short enough that these pitfalls are easily overlooked in favor of the aesthetic and truly impressive world-building. I would recommend this to anyone who likes analogue horror with the caveat that the endings are overlooked and treated as add-ons rather than part of the core experience.

okay, something i think about sometimes, is that snatcher, given he Goes Outside, would probably be the kind of person to go to internet cafes (little to no tech or connection or wifi or anything in forest, most likely. i think itd be pretty isolated in all regards, thru both the blizzard messing up like. the vibrations. ? i forgot words. also theres a bunch of roads outside of available map cut off by ice. i know at least one subconite is shown to own a mobile phone in grooves' storybook, but like, they explicitly hang out outside of the forest.). which i could see being popular in nyakuza metro! ...even though thru ingame twitter mobile app presence its kinda shown mobile datas a thing. i know next to nothing about internet cafes and whether or not their presence is mitigated by generally easy internet access, but i dont assume theyd be completely gone during ingame events, + snatchers typically believed to have been undead for a considerable amount of time, likely witnessing them at their peak popularity. i think theyd carry a flash drive w digital art programs, maybe some DAWs, maybe a folder with reaction pictures... n she uses the computers to draw stuff w the mouse, like completely zoned out realistic santa claus kind of thing, but tbh itd probably be touhou fanart or something im not personally very familiar w it but i think shed like bullet hell games. either no signatute on artwork or its like, cursive/old fashioned? w no legible text or url or nickname. posts anonymously on forums and boards. maybe makes & leaves an email for contact if hes feeling goofy n wants to talk. definitely does vent art, definitely uses focus from being triggered to make artwork, opposed to self expression but kind of cant help it. im not sure what kind of music hed make, probably repetitive and grating and compressed but specifically as a stylistic choice... probably mostly does remixes or mashups.. i think if it were to do vocals it could input straight into the machine, being inhuman and all, a lot of their samples is literally noises they made and recorded. he could play amen break if he wanted to. Dragon King - Chapter 1 (Super abridged plot summary)

Hi, I just finished reading the first chapter of the new book.

It is really long, so here's a compressed version for those who don't wanna read the whole thing.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

After returning from Japan, Lu Mingfei, Caesar and Chu Zihang make an oath to dedicate their lives to dig Herzog's past and prevent him from returning. They call it "Project Pai" based on Caesar's favorite manga series 3X3 Eyes. (Because each one of them would be a pair of eyes, constantly looking for Herzog). Caesar swearing on his father's name meant nothing, he wouldn't use his favorite character's name in vain.

Caesar graduated and passed down the presidency of the Student Union to Lu Mingfei.

Caesar wants to return to Cassell to form an alliance between the Student Union and Lionheart, he invites Chu Zihang but he's unavailable.

The ship of cultists

Chu Zihang went to the Arctic Circle to search for Maria of the Stars, a Nazi German socialite who was the leader of a cult called "The Far North" and is now 130 years old. Herzog was once a member of this cult.

Chu Zihang boards the Yamal. A former sovier icebreaker transformed into a tourist cruise ship. Now it's being rented by the Far North. It is full of wealthy tourists who want to spend Christmas there.

Lu Mingfei asks Zihang on an email if he's going to spend his winter break in Cassell or in Beijing, so he can go with him.

Zihang's health has seriously deteriorated, the Execution Bureau wants him to become a teacher so he won't transform into a Death Servitor in combat.

Zihang enters Maria's room, but instead he finds her great granddaughter Reginleif, a blond girl in her twenties. She's very strong. After a brief fight, she decides to answer his questions.

Maria of the Stars died years ago, Reginleif is the new Saint of The Far North. Herzog left the cult and they were weary of him.

Conspiracies

Zihang is soon captured by Sasha Rybalko, the ship's captain. Sasha is a member of the Russian Special Forces, who infiltrated the ship. He's not aware of the Dragons' existence. He and Zihang become friends. Sasha wants to know more about Reginleif and the ship's leadership.

On Christmas morning, Chu Zihang is ambushed by Olrune and Hervor, Vincent's mercenaries. Vincent claims to be Reginleif's servant. This whole fight is merely a test of strength.

Vincent is clearly the one in charge, he used to be Maria's husband, to make things short, he's evil... Very evil.

The Secret Party is popularly known as "The Abraham Blood Pact".

The Far North used to be called "The Twilight Dogma" and they were members of the Secret Party. EVA says their records are classified, but they used to be followers of Odin.

This obviously sparks Zihang's interest, but his health keeps deteriorating. EVA tries to convince him to go down to the bar and fall for someone or just join the festivities.

Sasha and his men have discovered a draconic entity growing on the ship and taking control of it. It's essentially merging its body with the Yamal and setting course for a strange location.

The cult of Odin worshippers believes in Hyperborea, Odin's land, the gate to the kingdom of god. They sell special tickets to hybrids with unstable blood and promise them a cure for their condition. They're going there.

Sasha flirts with a woman named Cassandra and she's later found dead in his room. Sasha calls Chu Zihang to help him figure out what happened. Cassandra was a spy for the Henkel family, she tried to send them a video through Sasha's unsupervised laptop, in which Vincent tries to sell her one of the special tickets.

As proof of Reginleif's authenticity, she is shot dead in the video, but she comes back to life. (This is a ruse).

Reginleif

Reginleif, Hervor and Olrune are clones of Maria of the Stars. Reginleif pretends to be the real Maria.

Reginleif is a lot like Erii Uesugi in this story. She was artificially conceived from someone with the Black King's genes, she's imprisoned on a ship and constantly tries to escape because she wants to see the outside world.

Reginleif's blood can cure unstable hybrids. She's very valuable to the cult.

Reginleif wants to fall in love. When she was 14 she sneaked into a tourist's room, so the cult decided to give her one week of vacations per year, in which she can join the tourists, party, drink and hook up with the guests.

Reginleif is a lot like Xia Mi, it is later revealed that Vincent gave her recordings of Xia Mi so she could imitate her to manipulate Chu Zihang. Regardless, Reginleif is rebellious, whimsical, loud and confident.

Reginleif makes a deal with Zihang, she gives her information, he gets her out of the ship. She tries to seduce him on multiple occasions to make sure that he'd stick to his word, to little success.

Reginleif is physically punished by Hervor and Olrune for disobeying Vincent's rules. This seems to be a common occurrence.

Worldwide killings

The ship is boarded by the passengers who bought the special tickets. Among them is the main investor, a man who asks to be called "Macallan" like the bottle of whiskey in his hand.

Macallan brought coffins with him, and he wears a plague doctor's mask (the one with a beak).

Macallan claims that, after they reach Hyperborea, the guests who brought the tickets will become the new gods of the world.

Schneider is signing his resignation letter when news of the situation reach him. He rips the page to shreds and starts the successor to the Greenland Mission.

Anjou is visiting Henkel (his old rival in the Secret Party) for information about Cassandra. Both he and Henkel are ambushed by killer drones, but they survive using Time Zero and Henkel's revolvers.

The drones kill dozens of important hybrids all over the world, including multiple members of the school board and Sakurai Nanami.

The cult is essentially killing the "old gods" so they can rule the world after they reach Hyperborea.

The cult hacks the Gattuso's orbital weapon and use it to bomb Chicago and Cassell College. The school is protected with a special Yanling shield.

The Gattusos destroy it before it reaches them in Italy. Caesar stays to reassure his people, then leaves to join Zihang in the Arctic circle. He brings Finger with him.

Lu Mingfei's plane is attacked by a swarm of drones and all contact with him is lost.

Henkel theorizes that Lu Mingfei was Anjou's attempt to create a Dragon King of his own to be used as a weapon.

The old gods

Chu Zihang figures out the situation. Hyperborea is where the Black Emperor Nidhogg's embryo is growing. Macallan doesn't plan to cure the unstable hybrids on the ship, he just brought them as food for Nidhogg.

Maria was infected by Nidhogg's embryo in the 1940s, she had Nidhogg's genes and so does Reginleif.

Macallan makes everyone on the ship demented through a Yanling skill called "Saha World".

Reginleif decides to escape, she loses a fight against her "sisters" Hervor and Olrune, but the monster growing on the ship kills them for her.

The monster is Maria of the Stars, she didn't actually die, she just mutated into a super organism and was trapped by Vincent, she's bringing the ship to feed Vincent and co. to Nidhogg as revenge.

Reginleif frees Maria and tries to escape by helicopter to no avail.

Chu Zihang tries to fight Macallan, who in turn rewinds time. He invites Jörmungandr to join them and she takes control of Zihang's body.

Jörmungandr puts Zihang in a vision of their high school basketball court. She promises to have Xia Mi make him company while his consciousness is imprisoned.

Reginleif fails to escape and decides to come back and free Chu Zihang, she is attacked by the brain-controlled passengers and brought down.

Jörmungandr makes a blood pact with Macallan so they can rule the new world together after killing Nidhogg.

Macallan intends to feed Nidhogg's embryo, then force it to hatch prematurely, kill it and eat the corpse to get his power.

He invites Jörmungandr to kill Reginleif with him, as a symbol of their rejection of "the new gods".

Reginleif cries to Chu Zihang that she likes him and he hears her.

Jörmungandr attacks Macallan instead. She knows that he revealed Fenrir's location to Cassell College and later ate his skeleton. She pushes Reginleif to safety.

Jörmungandr tells Sasha to get Reginleif out of the ship while she stays to fight Macallan, fulfilling Chu Zihang's promise to rescue her.

Macallan reveals that he managed to have a child, a pure-blooded child, which was previously impossible.

Macallan rewinds time again but he's exhausted, Jörmungandr starts to win the fight, but their blood pact prevents it. Macallan feeds her to Nidhogg's embryo.

The new king

Macallan is the Dragon King of Sky and Wind.

He kills Nidhogg's embryo and prepares to consume it, but he's weakened by the fight.

Inside of their shared dream, Jörmungandr gives Chu Zihang control of their body and all of her power, because he's not restricted by the blood pact and therefore he can kill Macallan.

When he asks her how she knows that he will return control to her, she kisses him on the lips as Xia Mi, and tells him that she'll take Xia Mi away from him if he doesn't.

He comes back as a Dragon King, Odin calls him "Chu Zihang, the King of Earth and Mountains."

Macallan theorizes that Jörmungandr planned to give Zihang control from the start, as a way to wait for Macallan to be debilitated by his fight against Nidhogg, but also for more sentimental reasons.

He also says that Jörmungandr was in love with Zihang.

Zihang can still hear and feel Xia Mi cheering him up and patting him on the back.

Chu Zihang sees in Jörmungandr's memories that Macallan is Odin.

Odin offers him to rule the world together, but Zihang only wants revenge.

Their fight is interrupted by Nidhogg's resurrection.

Ragnarok begins. Tsunamis, massive earthquakes and volcano eruptions all trigger at the same time.

The end?

The entire world launches their nuclear weapons towards the Arctic circle, Caesar mentions that humanity just sent their own civilization back to the starting point.

Lu mingfei is in a lifeboat, as soon as a giant tsunami is about to reach him, Lu Mingze slows time down to have some wine with him.

There's not much the little devil can do, he's not omnipotent and he doesn't think he can survive this either.

Nono calls Lu MIngfei through his satellite phone, but seeing the end near, there's not much he can tell her.

He throws the phone on the water and shares a final drink with Lu Mingze.

The giant wave engulfs them.

BOC 2023 Projects Lineup Thoughts

I'm waiting for more translations to come in post-event, but I think it's starting to show that BOC definitely cannot produce a stream of shows. They can only do 5 major projects with airing dates in Q2/3:

The Hidden Character reality show - would take some planning but minimal production prep, plus a hint on a possible new series being written for the "couple" this show would generate. NGL, it could be a very bomb ass concept OR the worst idea. Depends on how they handle it. Plus I had the impression the other 16 actors on their roster can audition for this new horror/thriller series.

Wuju Bakery (JBC series) - This was the actual surprising reveal of today for me. I thought they might pair Barcode with someone else. But they get some slack production wise on this because it's in collaboration with a Korean production company.

4 Minutes (BBB series) - They were being very vague about the premise, and while Sammon is on it, I get the feeling it isn't quite fleshed out yet beyond a just-about-written script.

Man Suang (Movie) - I wanted an updated teaser at least, but it seems they scrapped the original storyline hence why (I think) they don't have one yet. I understand it likely is the biggest production out of the lineup, but I'm also concerned that they're shooting for the stars so much, they cage themselves into paralysis mode. In any case, I suppose the point was to showcase the tour de force behind the movie production as it seems to be where a number of resources are going.

KP 2023 and KP WTF: From what Pond said, Vietnam is their last stop, the tour isn't profitable (🤣😭) and the cast are doing this because they want to give back to fans. So I'm not going to make any complaints lol but seems the 2023 one will have 60-70% different content, and WTF will have them exchanging roles/performances (?) The exchanging is what I'm interested in tbh

Not a major project but MA will be on Woody FM so looking forward to that!

Other thoughts:

I kinda wasn't super banking on a KPTS S2 because of rights purchases etc and I at least didn't have to be let down by not hearing about it 🤣 it could still happen though

I did want a new MA series but given earlier release of the movie than they originally estimated (now in August 2023) plus the character and production prep they have to do, I'll be grudgingly understanding about them not committing to any other project yet; from what I can tell the movie will get lion's share of resources for 1H 2023

I did not fail to see that most filming work would be done by end Q2 and so I am predicting a 2H 2023 lineup announcement (optimistically) or we get a world tour resumption (hopefully with other stops); I would prefer the former over the latter

Hopefully Pond gets work for the rest of the roster, though, because there are 8 other actors without projects unless they're slotting them into the JBC and BBB shows (but wouldn't they announce that?)

This also partially confirms to me that MA's other projects may be more around brand deals, advertising work, etc.

As an introvert I do want to say this event could have been compressed, less dragging; in fact could have been an EMAIL (slash video teaser) so there is that. I think they met my minimum expectation aka that they wouldn't have enough resources for a whole bunch of shows, but I'm still allowed to feel disappointed that I'm not getting a new MA series.

A while ago, I created a song with Itoki Hana called "THE GREATEST LIVING SHOW." For its release, I thought it would be nice to commission a music video from it from "Bani-chan", the album artist for our song "74." I gave her a loose outline of the story and a translation of the lyrics, and let her handle everything else. After two long years, the video has finally been completed. Over two long years, BANI created this entire music video from beginning to end, all by herself. Every frame, every pose, every camera angle, every character design, the effects, the processing, everything, was painstakingly done by her own hand. She worked chronologically from beginning to end. As its development went on, her abilities and standards raised higher and higher... ultimately compressing two years of hard work and improvement into a four-minute running time. I guess it's the account owner's settings or something, I am peeved. I'm thrilled these films are available online AT ALL, even if most of them are posted without permission, because where are you gonna watch that stuff, at some retrospective that may or may not happen in another country?

But I am peeved that I can't show you these films in their original quality- or, heck, see them for myself without the compression bullshit. When you get a really good quality copy, you can reverse engineer the film, and THAT is the best fun in stopmotion. I have THEORIES and only a chat with the authors (I guess Svankmajer might have an email but he's a million year old deity and I am a smol creacher) or a clean copy of the work can help me confirm them.
