- Honestly I think he’d be a really good college professor someday, I bet he’d consider that as a career path once he saw his classmates turning to him for help

- He would want to be involved with the student political field on campus, councils and boards to advocate for his peers— I’d even imagine his classmates recommend him to join the student council

- The concept of my course was that studying nonhuman history (like animals or nature) reveals a lot about the people who did the research? And what they were passionate about?

- I did my final research paper on Greenland Sharks and how they live for hundreds of years, and how I’m fascinated by them because I’m fascinated with mortality? And so my paper juxtaposed a race to find the “key to immortality” through Greenland Shark DNA, and the history of death and our conscious awareness of death… I think Armin would eat that shit up

- One of the students who goes into their professor’s office hours just to talk to them about their theses and concepts

- Keeps in touch with his professors after he graduates too!

- Volunteers at the Student Writing Centers to help other undergrads with their papers, just reads through them and gives them some feedback

- As far as off campus activities he probably is active in lot of clubs or groups! Especially things like DnD! He is the Dungeon Master for his campaign

- So sorry to all of my business major friends and anyone following me who’s a business major

- But at my school it was a joke? The major for people who didn’t know what they wanted to do?

- One of my friends had to decorate a Monopoly board for their final

- Honestly I bet he’d take the most random electives though? I don’t know how many Business majors need but his are so diverse and he’s super engaged in all of them

- Might take a Ping Pong course as a joke (my school offered one) but then takes Atmospheric Science? Imperial Russian History? Yoga? Latin??

- He claims it’s so that he can be a one-man-team in trivia nights and smoke everyone else

- He’s extremely active and involved in class discussion, even if he’s just cracking a joke or giving an opinion

- If he’s not in a frat himself, he’s probably super close to all of the frats in town and gets invited out a lot!!

PORCO:

- Architecture Major

- Have you ever seen those “Architecture Majors be like: I have a whole building due on Friday 💀”

- He’d get so offended by those omg?? “That’s literally not true” or “Ha ha it’s funny when you say that but I actually have a model building I need to make”

- But the mode is made out of foam board and toothpicks or something bro chill

- Probably has glue on his fingers like 24/7? Hates building models with a passion. Especially with their super quick curing glue?

- Might actually make Armin help out with his models since Armin paints DnD and Warhammer models??

- I think Porco would prefer the design aspects of architecture and not the hands on part as much

- Is on the school’s soccer team! So he is usually at practice after school

- Probably hogs a squat rack or a bench at the campus gym, sorry not sorry

- I mentioned this in my college Porco headcanon set but I think he’d also go on runs daily around campus in the morning

- Okay I struggled with this one but I think he’d start off as a anatomy/physical science major? But then might switch off and go into education 😭

- Also on the soccer team, maybe the captain even! He leads warm ups and he’s super observant when it comes to his teammates and their physical capabilities (makes them personal workout routines and Bert is the only one who follows it precisely)

- I think halfway through his sophomore year he realizes that being a physical therapist isn’t what he wants to do? It’s work he’s good at, but does he like it?

- So he switches to be an education major!

- Honestly I could see him becoming a gym teacher or a general primary teacher!!

- He’d be really honored with the opportunity to make a difference in kids lives

- I know that teachers are horrendously underpaid (I’m studying to teach myself), but also shuts people down when they make tease him about that because he’s so proud that he’ll be aiding in the education and support of children!! He’s not in it for the money!

- Probably one of those people who gets mad when his essay gets a B+ “I don’t think the Professor was able to comprehend my views, if he did he would have given me an A”

- As a Graduate Student he may teach a class to the undergrads and he’s super engaged with the content, and will just talk and analyze the stories for the class if they don’t participate??

- But he will not tolerate missing assignments

- As a philosophy minor he probably appreciates a lot of the history and context behind the philosophy

- Also probably laughs a bit at the pompous nature of most of his peers? Their whole “nobody understands life like I do” thing?

- Biochemistry loser nerd science man

- I always imagine him as a med student?? So if he’s not in biochem he’s already in med school, a couple years older than you!

- Probably wants to go into neurology or oncology, something intense!!

- I also think he would have taken a lot of history courses as an undergrad though? Enough that his advisor suggests he just gets a history minor

- I don’t know how this man has the time but he’s probably a research assistant for the chem labs or a TA for some of the history courses he liked taking

Okay I’ve read a lot of headcanons about the subject and according to almost everyone Eren wouldn’t go to college, but would rather join the army (particularly in the air force). I actually disagree: canonically Eren became a soldier after his mother's death, to join the Survey Corps and exterminate the titans, but he previously wanted to be part of the Scouts to be able to explore the world outside the Walls. He has a strong sense of justice and spends much of the time proving that he wants to fight for the weaker regardless of how strong or powerful his opponent is. I see Eren as the type who wants to defend the people even in a modern universe, so I think he’d study journalism or something similar.

Armin

This little precious boy is obsessed with nature. He literally spends three whole seasons repeating that he wants to see the sea, the desert, the volcanoes, etc... He’s certainly passionate about natural sciences, so he would study something related to them, such as geology or marine biology.

Mikasa

Mikasa is very difficult to identify in a modern universe. We know her as the strong, introvert girl that always stick to Eren because of her past with him (I’m referring to when he saved her), but in a modern universe they’re unlikely to meet in such circumstances. What I believe would remain in her personality even in a normal world would certainly be her determination and a cool head even in the most difficult situations. With these characteristics she could easily graduate from medical school, specializing in something like neurosurgery.

Jean

Okay, for Jean it was a bit complicated. He’s an insecure guy, who wants to cover his weaknesses with the image of the strong man and that ‘I don’t give a fuck’ attitude; deep down he’s sweet, caring and attentive, we all agree on this. BUT, we can’t deny that Jean-boy is still one who likes to be watched, looking for approval. I see him studying acting, to work in the cinema or on television. I know that he’s really good at drawing but I don’t think he’d make it a job, it’s more likely to be a hobby for him.

Connie

Connie is the stereotype of the goofy college student who doesn't want to get too busy with intellectual subjects, but at the same time it's hard to imagine him solving complicated equations or speculating on the stock market. I see him as one to study something mechanically repetitive, where the only way to improve is constant practice (he must be good with manual subjects, let’s remember that he has earned a place among the top 10 cadets). He’s probably prone to study programming or computer coding. (The image of him wearing a cap backwards, a pair of headphones and sitting with his reversed chair while typing on his computer is just perfect).

Sasha

Biological farming, or anything relating to that and the green-sustainable. We all know Sasha as the ‘potato-girl’ and the only one who can bite her best friend’s hand thinking it’s actual meat and going on with chewing it (poor Jean). But she also lived in the forest for a big part of her life, living with her family in a small village in the woods; so I think that she’d be particularly sensitive to respecting the environment and looking for measures to make agriculture and livestock sustainable.

He'd definitely become a manager, a CEO or something similar, so I'd assign to Reiner Braun a degree in Business Management/Administration. Berthold

So, Berthold is always calm and quiet (even as the Colossal Titan he doesn’t roar even once); in the anime, his personality is not particularly developed regarding his interests, or maybe I missed something. But for what little we've seen he's obviously highly sensitive. This type of behavior makes me think that he needs an outlet and I imagine it in the writing. I don't know why but in my head the image of him as the reserved guy that pours what he thinks and feels in words it's quite suiting. So in college he'd study literature and simultaneously take courses of creative writing, even if, of course, he'd need a lot of support from his close friends, such as Reiner. (I also see him confessing to Annie with a letter).

Annie

She’s calm, reserved and perfectly capable of gaining respect from others with little effort, she reflects the image of a strong and independent woman. The two special episodes dedicated to Annie follow her as she searches for a missing girl, when she is put in charge of the investigation by the father of hers. With these premises it would be easy to place her in the sphere of law enforcement, in particular she would be perfect for the role of detective (not to mention her skills in hand-to-hand combat, this woman would become the terror of the whole police department). But to stick more accurately to the subject of 'college' she could study law to become a lawyer.

Ymir

She probably would like to be as close to the pussy as possible, I think she’d study medicine to become a gynecologist. Sorry, it's really a pitiful reason compared to the others, but in a certain way I see her with the white jacket intent on visiting her patients, she would also be very professional and no one else would see her Historia.

Historia

Historia is a character I personally like a lot; her growth is well made and I find in it a side of myself. Given that, rewatching some episodes made me notice that she really likes animals and taking care of them. From when she was a little girl she lived in the countryside with her mother and did the hard work so I don't see her as someone to take easy degrees. With her love for nature I definitely see her as a zoologist or a veterinarian.

Marco

Marco is a little cute boy and he’s just too innocent for this world. I miss him. However, just as Berthold he’s sensitive but he’s more prone to show it without embarrassment than hide it to then let it out alone in his private sphere. In my opinion he has a talent for literary/artistic subjects and he could be inclined to write too, but at the same time I see him more active than the Colossal-boy. For what little we have known about him it’s pretty obvious that he’s super kind and wants to help other people. Traveling around my Uni’s possible degrees I found something that can actually suit him pretty fine: linguistic and cultural mediation.

Levi

I think that, considering his past, a modern version of him could’ve been born when his mother was really young (and I mean 16 or 17 years old), so they wouldn’t have much money and he probably has to work during summer and right after diploma to gain enough money that would allow him a decent university (it’s not excluded that he will get a scholarship since he would surely be one of those brilliant students even with little commitment). And after securing the chance to study in my opinion he could get a degree in ‘I don’t-fucking-know’. Seriously, this is the hardest character. Reading others’ stories I found that almost everyone disagree about what Levi would study in college: some say medicine for his obsession with cleanliness (but on the one hand this mania has gradually disappeared over the course of the series and on the other it comes mainly from his Underground years, something that would not exist in the modern world), in some one-shots he studies engineering, and in others psychology, etc. Personally among all the ones I’ve read, he could be better suited to engineering. (But I'm still very confused about him so please leave some advice, I'll gladly accept them)

Hanji

She is probably the easiest character. She’s canonically obsessed with the titan’s biology and she loves to do experiments on them. In short, Hanji would absolutely study biology; a lot of people said that with her love for experiments she’s more likely to get a degree in chemistry, but I see her more passionate about the study of living beings, so I think that biology fits her perfectly.

Erwin

This man is certainly gifted for leadership and politics. In many ways he is similar to Eren in his ideals of justice and willingness to discover the truth, but unlike the boy who throws himself into battle even recklessly, we have rarely seen Erwin use the ODM gear to subjugate titans himself. In general, the commander of theSurvey Corps has always been rational and able to elaborate complex strategies to achieve a long-term result. He could graduate in political science or law. OR he could follow his father’s steps, becoming one of the few teachers who truly believe in their cause, with a strong interest in his students. However, it is certain that Erwin could never do a job he does not firmly believe in.

eren: political science major with a minor in eldian studies. i also think he’d do unusually well in philosophy when he’s pushed to really examine and critique his own way of thinking. the fandom jokes a lot about his obsession with freedom but i’d be curious to see what he’d say about it if he really had the time to think about it in a modern (and peaceful) setting. erwin is his favorite professor, and he’s always asking someone for a pen and paper.

armin: environmental science and applied math double major because his big brain can handle it. i think he’d choose applied over pure math because he values problem-solving and real world applications. he could also do well in premed but i don’t think he’d like how competitive it is. i could see him getting a language citation in arabic or chinese just because they’re so hard. he definitely works in the campus library and has a whole bunch of nice, minimalist stationery.

mikasa: this one was hard because i think her choice in major would be guided by a desired lifestyle rather than a genuine interest. she wants a peaceful, stable life so i could see her wanting to go into premed or business because of the stability. she’d also have a minor in something that would allow her to take classes with a friend! she has a solid study routine and likes working in groups, even if they’re not in the same classes.

jean: government with a minor in communications or visual arts (or both). he is a leader through and through, so i see him as a real humanities kid. i think he’d enjoy communications because it’s more fun than government, but he’s also a good at drawing in canon so he’d take a few visual arts classes. i could also see him getting a language citation in spanish, don’t ask me why. no one sees him working, but he always gets all his work done. tries to slip into mikasa’s study sessions and distract her.

connie: social studies, business, or computer science major because they’re all versatile and i can’t see connie limiting himself in terms of career choices. all the business majors i know are always out having fun and that just screams connie to me. he does his work in big spurts at the last second so you���ll find him in the library at like 2am every once in awhile.

sasha: nursing or childhood education major! i could see her doing well in a field working with children, but i don’t think she’d be able to do the full premed and med school thing to become a pediatrician. she would be every kid’s favorite nurse or teacher. i also see her with an on-campus job with the admissions office as a tour guide. she prefers doing her work in the dining hall between meal times because it’s not too quiet.

ymir: literature with a psychology minor. i just see ymir as egghead smart but she just doesn’t really apply herself. she’s naturally very perceptive, so i think she’d really succeed in both of these subjects. she wouldn’t fully do the readings for literature, but she’d always have the best takes. she’s minoring in psychology to have classes in common with historia. i could see her working in the cafe in the library armin works at. she’s at every party on-campus controlling the music.

historia: psychology with a minor in women, gender, and sexuality studies. she’d be a pretty good student too with flashcards and stuff, and her and ymir would study together often. i think she was in premed but stopped because it was super competitive and actually wanted to enjoy her time in college. not a huge partier, but she enjoys hosting wine and cheese and paint nights in her dorm.

officers

erwin: professor of history and eldian studies who also leads a big research project and mentors a team of phd students. he’s everyone’s favorite professor because his lectures are really engaging and he likes looking at history through a philosophical and moral lens. he stays late after class and during office hours to answer every student’s questions.

levi: i love him as the janitor for the library or erwin’s building and i will not be entertaining any other ideas. he’s the janitor everyone loves because he gives really good advice and always listens to your rants as he cleans. he’ll also wake you up if he notices you’ve been sleeping on your work for a little too long. he gets coffee with hange in the cafe almost every other day, and he always drops by erwin’s office at the end of the day.

hange: professor of biology and chemistry with too much energy. they always have an I ❤️ TITANS mug on their desk but sometimes it has juice inside instead of coffee or tea. hange kind of reminds me of a grad student, so i think they’re a relatively new professor who isn’t that much older than their students. they insist everyone calls them by their first name and like to do lots of experiments in class.

Armin, Annie, Connie, and Sasha all go to NYU. Armin and Connie are in the same program for computer science. Annie goes to the school of business, and Sasha is in the arts program. All the NYU students are a year or two younger than everyone else, so they’re all sophomores, but, Connie and Armin will probably graduate a year early.

Reader, Eren, Jean, Bertolt, Reiner, and Ymir all attend Columbia. OC majored in engineering and physics, Ymir does radiology sciences and is basically pre-med, Jean and Eren are both in Arts & Science, and Bertolt and Reiner both attend the business school, but Bertolt does a double major in Media and Literacy. Bertolt is also a sophomore, but all the other Columbia students are seniors.

Mikasa goes to Parson’s for fashion design and history. She’s being vetted by Vogue and LV, but Carla called dibs lmfaooo.

When NICE takes place, it’s towards the end of their fall semester. By the time they’re going to France, Eren, Jean, and Mikasa are all done with the requirements for their degree, so they’re not in school the following semester.

Hange, Levi, Erwin, and Moblit are also Columbia students, but attend the grad school. Hange and Moblit went to Brown for undergrad, and Erwin was going to go to Princeton, but stayed in the city.

Marco doesn’t go to college, tho he is the same age as everyone else at Columbia. He’s about to inherit his family’s company, so he’s basically spent the last three and half years networking, schmoozing, and being molded into a CEO.

S.C Books Chapter 1

SUMMARY: Eren, Mikasa, and Armin live together off-campus for college. They go to Trost University, where the rest of the 104th fill in. Levi and Hange run Survey Corps Books or S.C. Books as a team, with Petra Moblit and Oluo. Eren's life hasn't been pleasant but the discovery of his second favorite place has made it a little better. Levi is aware of his near constant presence at the shop, confused as to how a college student can afford his book and coffee habit. Through unwelcome meddling from their friends, the two fine themselves growing closer. Possibly too close for a traumatized college student and slightly neurotic bookstore owner to be.

NOTES: I have not watched all of AoT or read the manga. I probably won't ever either. I have seen/read enough to know what is happening. I am enjoying being tangently attached to this fandom but also my existence thrives in canon divergence/modern setting au's and that is where I stay. usually.

WARNINGS: Eren/Levi ship but aged up in a modern setting, some SH references(physical and mental) language, suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, more warnings to come as I write(very slowly)

The chime ringing through the back room at 5 in the morning was a surprise. Levi was the only one at his bookstore/café to meet the extremely early customer. Levi came out of the small kitchen in the back, drying his hands off with a towel.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I though today was Hange's morning to work. I apologize." The smooth voice cut Levi off before he could speak. Levi looked up and froze, not often did Levi work the counter of his own establishment. The store was rather large but was tucked into away a bit so his 4 employees handled it just fine. He was glad this was one of those days. The tall green eyed wonder staring at him was one of the few regulars he had. Levi didn't know his full name, or why some weeks he practically lived at the store but he did know the three different way he took his coffee and the one way he took his tea. Levi knew that he was attractive and clean and polite.

"It was. They went on a bender after reading a weird article and overslept. Their husband texted me to ask me to cover." Levi told the kid. The kid nodded like he understood and with as often as he was there, Levi didn't doubt that Hange had roped the kid into a discussion or two.

"Again, sorry. I'll get going then. I was coming in to say hi and see if the machines were running. But I am an hour early for when you open." The kid looked down rubbing his already messy hair. He looked ready to bolt.

"It's fine, kid. I have a machine running already. I am no spring chicken, I need coffee to get up this early anymore. I was getting ready for the rest when you came in." Levi told him. The kid looked up hopeful, eyes slightly bloodshot. "I can only do regular coffee right now, or I'd do your Monday special." Levi said. He looked apologetically at the student, sympathizing with him.

"You know my coffee order?" He looked surprised. He blinked. "I am fine with regular coffee. I'll need-"

"3 creams and 6 sugars. How you can call that swill coffee I will never know." Levi cut him off. He turned around and made the coffee, wanting to hurry so he could look at the kid some more. 'Stop, he is much too young for you.'He tried to shake off the invasive thoughts but the urge to peek at the kid who'd been sitting at his table for what felt like years was strong.

"Just cause I hate the bitterness doesn't make it swill. Sorry we all can't have as refined taste buds as you. I rather like enjoying my drink." The kid snarked while your back was turned. 'He's witty. And attractive.' Levi sighed, this kid was almost too much for 5 am.

"Here you go brat. Enjoy your drink." The kid swiped his card, already drinking heavily from the cup. "I'll let you know when I get the espresso machine up." Levi told him as he finished the transaction. The kid looked up at him, with a grin powerful enough to run the damn city.

"Thanks, Levi. Do you mind if I sit in my spot? I have some work to finish up." The kid hadn't moved from the spot at the counter.

"Fais ce que tu veux." Do what you want. Levi muttered under his breath waving as he ducked into the kitchen. He wasn't sure how the kid knew his name, Hange could have pointed him out or mentioned him but he seemed to know exactly who Levi was.

"I don't know what that means but I will take it as a yes." Levi heard through the swinging door. Levi busied himself with getting the small food stuffs ready for opening and even getting them ready for lunch. He put the breakfast stuff in the oven and put the lunch stuff from the freezer into the cooler to thaw. He was just setting the timer when the door chime went off again.

"Oh! Eren, you're here?" A loud high pitched voice told Levi who it was without looking. Levi did not step closer to the door to hear the kid's-Eren's response.

"Yeah. Levi let me stay. I feel bad. I don't mean to be an imposition." Eren sounded bothered and instantly his face came to Levi's mind wearing a small frown. Levi had spent enough time watching Eren over the last couple years, he knew exactly what he looked like.

"If he thought you were imposing then you wouldn't be here. Don't worry." Hange's voice got louder meaning they were getting closer. Levi scrambled back a few steps and then mentally cursed, he never scrambled anywhere. "Get back to your work, Eren. I'll bring you over a Monday special, I just need to check in with the boss man." Hange stepped through the door to see Levi unconvincingly fiddling with the oven.

"Hange. About time you fucking got here. What is this I hear, you let Eren come in before opening?" Levi demanded. He was trying to keep his cocky attitude but Hange was one of the few that new him best.

"I am sorry, but you know how I get sometimes. I just can't help myself." Hange smiled broadly. "Also, Eren is a good kid. Been dealt a shitty hand but good. I like 'em." Hange shrugged. "He lives with some friends but I think he likes having a space to himself. Anyway!" Hange began darting around the kitchen trying to get things ready so Levi could go back to his job. "You head back to the office, boss. I got it from here. Thank you!" Levi rolled his eyes and headed back into the office, trying to ignore his growing curiosity about Eren.

Later that morning, Levi came out of his office to check on everything to see Eren still at the table he sat at flipping through text books and scrawling down messy notes. He had a little more color than this morning but was still looking haggard. 'Eren is a good kid. Been dealt a shitty hand but good.' Unbidden Hange's comment came to the front of his mind. As he watched, Eren shook out his left arm, rubbing from wrist to mid-forearm looking like he was drowning. Levi felt a pang of sympathy for the young man, he quickly grabbed a pastry and made a cup of green tea. Ignoring the confused stares of Hange and Petra. He walked over and lightly tapped his shoe against Eren's failing to smother a smirk when he jumped.

"Hey, brat. Are you trying to fuse with my furniture today or will you be leaving at some point?" Levi said. Eren blinked up at him before the words sank in.

"Levi! Hi. Um, no. I usually have a class right now but the professor cancelled. So I have been here, quietly sucking up all your wifi and spewing bad vibes. I can leave if you want?" Eren asked, a small hopeful look on his face.

"Oi, stop looking at me like that. If I wanted you gone, you'd be gone. You practically live here. I see no reason to change that now." Levi sat down across from the kid, ignoring that heavy stares his employees were giving him. "What are you studying so intensely you freaked out?" Levi asked. He still kept his treats, waiting for the best moment.

"Calculus. I am going into the art fields but I also want a bio degree in case of later, looks like if I play my cards right I will end up with a Bachelor in Science with chemistry and math minors and an Bachelor in Art with a minor in English and Psychology." Eren sighed. "Not like I chose this but I am taking so many classes to begin with for my double major that the minors all kind of happen. Especially at Trost, so much overlap for each dept. So I will be a jack of all trades buried under a lot of debt." Eren chuckled.

"Wait, I thought I heard you and Shitty Glasses that you were given a full academic ride?" Levi peered at him. Eren's green eyes widened and a pretty blush spread across his cheeks.

"I am. Yes. I don't like to talk about it. Trost only gives full rides to the top 10 kids of the high school's class. I know a lot of people who go to Trost don't have the luxury of free schooling, so I try not to mention it. It makes me uncomfortable when I can't relate to others." Eren shrugged. He looked at the clock on his computer, and closed his textbooks with the pens and notebooks still inside. Levi glanced at his left arm and saw the discoloration of a long scar. It was tapered at the top and bottom, it healed nice but Levi could only think of one thing that made scars like that.

"Are you leaving?" Levi was reminded how he didn't know this kid's schedule and this meager attempt at getting to know him after all this time was ridiculous.

"No. Thought now would be a good time for a break. I try to take ten minutes every hour to look at my phone or whatever. I sometimes walk the store too, give Hange a stack of books to buy later." Eren shrugged. Levi was instantly captivated. This kid was gorgeous, witty, smart, talented, polite, and somehow loaded? Levi wanted-no, needed-to know more.

"Good thing, I thought you could use a break too. Here, A blueberry scone and a honey lemon green tea. I know the tea is new but I think you will like it. It may even help with anxiety." Levi pushed the mug and plate over, with a very small smile on his face. Eren looked between the offering and Levi before beaming. He quickly sanitized his hands, which earned him points with Levi before breaking the scone in half.

"I am assuming-dangerous I know-that this is on the house. If so then I will only accept if you share it with me. Or else, I will pay Hange, right now." Eren's eyes twinkled playfully, matching the smile on his face. Levi sighed in defeat and Eren's grin grew bigger.

Before either of them could say anything, Hange was putting down a clean plate and a cup of black tea before winking and skipping away. Levi felt a shiver of apprehension go down his spine. They would definitely terrorize him over this later. Eren has been visiting for months now, staying some days past close or coming in before opening and staying the whole day, sometimes looking well and sometimes looking like he could run away from his thoughts fast enough, and today of all days Levi decides to sit down and share a scone with this stranger/customer. Levi put his half on his plate with the distinct feeling he lost at something but the soft, warm smile Eren was wearing made it worth it, somehow. The two of them sat, chatting lightly until both their plates and mugs were empty.

"Hey, Levi?" Eren asked. Levi looked up from where he had stacked the dishes, getting ready to leave. "Thank you for everything today. I really enjoyed the company." Eren looked up from the spot on the table he had been staring at to grin at Levi. His green eyes shining and dimples showing.

"Tch. Don't get used to it, brat. Get back to work, you slacked enough today." Levi pushed his chair in and headed back to his office, ignoring the urge to turn around.

"Yes, sir." Eren said to his retreating back. Eren saw his shoulders move in a sigh and Eren couldn't help but smile again. Levi had always distracted and caught his attention. He saw Levi one day in the store and decided to go in, Eren was glad every day he made that slightly impulsive decision. The shorter man with his sharp blue eyes and sharper tongue had Eren hook, line and sinker. Once he arrived for the day not much could pull him away, always wanting one more secret look or overheard joke. Many days, Eren felt like his thoughts were too much, the day too long, the night too short but a couple hours in the café/bookstore with his art tablet were enough to settle him down. He hadn't felt this stable since before his mom died. He was enjoying school and friends and even if some days were bad days, that was all they were, and he knew he could try again the next day.

Eren pulled out his books again, wanting to get a little ahead in his class that was cancelled today, but he was sure it was for nothing. His head was full of Levi. He had welcomed him in early and even gave him a free snack. He talked to Eren, like he really wanted to know about him. He asked about his friends and classes and how his art was coming, Eren realized Levi must watch him as much as Eren watched him. Now Eren's nose was full of his cedar and tea tree oil scent and the image of Levi in a button up rolled to the elbows and looser fit slacks. Eren wondered how much muscle was hidden under his clothes, he had seen Levi carry some heavy boxes around. His arms were well defined and his thighs were perfectly snug in his pants. Eren shook his head, trying to focus and lose the warmth in his cheeks he knew was visible.

After a couple more hours of studying, Eren packed up his school books and pulled out a large binder and a tablet and sketchbook. He had several friends that were going to school to be game developers and as a friend he told them he would help out with character design and lore, since he like to write and draw. Once he got set up he went up to the counter where Hange was just finishing up for the day. "Hange, you haven't left already?" Eren looked confused before checking the time on his watch.

"I came in a little late, so I stayed an extra two hours. Petra is closing with Oluo tonight." Hange put their apron in the dirty laundry bin at the end of the counter. "Did you need something? I can ring you up before I clock out at least." Hange said.

"Yes please. I really shouldn't but I need to finish like 3 characters for Armin and Jean. They had some big changes to the designs I gave them last week." Eren paused, hesitating ever so slightly. He looked around suspiciously. "I need to pay for the treats Levi and I shared. I know I told him it was okay, but I don't want him to make a habit of it, ya know?" Eren rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. "I don't want to be seen as a mooch." Hange grinned, glasses glinting scarily under the lights.

"So you need a early evening pick me up and then 1 black tea, 1 Green Tea and 1 blueberry scone? Is that right?" Hange said, a bit louder than acceptable.

"Hange! Shush. Please. That is everything." Eren held a finger to his lips, trying not to flush under her staring.

"Why not accept the gift as it came? Eren, I get where you are coming from, I do. I have to say though, this is the first time he has shown any interest in someone who is new. I know that you have been here for ages already but think. Levi doesn't make uncalculated decisions. I know you are interested and I know he is. If you snub his fist gift, then what happened today may be as far as this goes. Do you understand?" Hange held her finger over the screen , ready for Eren choice.

"Fine, I will take my early evening pick me up and whatever you want instead." Eren said. He looked nervous. "Thanks Hange, I appreciate you help, even though I know it comes from a warped place." Eren chuckled before handing over his payment. Hange sent their order off and clocked out. She waited at the counter for her and Eren's drink. Eren, knowing this headed off to the stacks of books seeing if anything new caught his eye. There were a few art books that had just came in that he quickly grabbed, animated and 2-D character books. He bought them and headed back to his seat where Hange arrived a moment later.

"I can't stay long. I have to go. But I will thank you for the beverage. I will also tell you that while you may think my concern for the two of you comes from a warped place, it also comes from love. Eren, I don't know everything about you. I don't know why some days you looks like the world rests on your shoulders and why some days you look like a 20 something living his best life. I do know that you are an amazing kid though. I know more about Levi than I probably should but I don't know what he is thinking. I don't know why he has preferred all these years to be alone, pardon his family. I will say, I haven't seen him sit down and enjoy a conversation like today in a very long time. So treasure the fact that you are important to Levi Ackerman, for that is no small feat." Hange was uncharacteristically serious, fiddling with their to-go cup. She quickly brightened. "If you have sex, will you take pictures? Or record it? I need to know if that guy is a top or bottom desperately, and I am dying to know your preference too." Hange laughed boisterously at the terror clearly seen on Eren's face. "I am kidding...unless?" Hange wiggled their eyebrows.

"Hange! If you are done harassing my customers then leave. You are scaring the poor kid. He looks like he is about to shit himself." Levi came up to the table saving Eren from having to answer.

Hange pouted. "You ruin all my fun." She looked at her phone to check the time. "I got to jet. There is a program I want to see. Bye!" They darted off, not worried about the terror they left behind.

"Oh my gosh. She is terrifying. Anyway." Eren seemed to shake himself off. "Are you going home?"

"Yeah. I've been here long enough. I got nothing left to do today, so might as well head home." Levi scanned his cafe with sharp eyes.

"Everything okay, Levi? You seem tense." Eren looked around but didn't see anything to cause the reaction.

"Nothing. What about you, brat? You got someplace to be today?" Levi nudged his bag gently with his toes.

"Yeah. I have a 5 pm anatomy lab once a week. I am there until 9 or 10 most nights. I have to get going soon. I should also drop by the house too, check in with Mikasa and Armin." Eren told him. He began packing up his things carefully. "Can I walk you to your car? Or is that being to presumptuous?"

"Maybe a little. But I don't mind." Levi waited until Eren grabbed all his stuff, the new art books included. The two of them walked out, tossing farewells over their shoulder to the closing staff.

"Thank you for walking me to my car, Eren. I feel more like a damsel in distress with each second." Levi's eyes usually harsh and narrow had softened slightly and had a glint to them. Eren could read the intended humor. "Good luck in class. I will see you later." Levi got in his car, not denying that he did feel safer, almost protected when Eren didn't turn away until he turned his car on. Levi pulled away from the curb where he was parked while Eren turned to start the trek to his house to get ready for his anatomy lab/class.

Week 3; Further Research

Who is April Greiman?, What is she significant for?....Career?

Early life

Born in 1948, the 22nd of march.  April grew up in New York city with her father, mother and her only sibling Paul. Her father was an early computer programmer he was also the founder/ president of The Ventura Institute of Technology. Her mother was a dancer who took care for April and showed her hard work and integrity. Paul became a meteorologist, he specialised in  atmospheric and climatic interplanetary modeling. April was born into a household that was going to support and nature her interests in art and design. One of her biggest role models was her Aunt Kitty who was a strong independent role model. She was a dancer in the show Zieglans Follies, on Broadway. From 1966-1970 April started to study graphic design as an undergraduate at the Kansas City Art Institute which is a private collage of fine arts and design. Here she was introduced to avant-garde European design and modernism. This is when her experimenting started. A big influence in her later on work is the writings of psychologist Carl Jung. His writings speak about symbology and mythos which are themes that April looks at.  After this April started her study at Basel School of Design in Switzerland during the years of 1970-1971. She was a student to two designers Armin Hofmann and Wolfgang Weingart, who were both Swiss designers. April found herself being influenced by these designers, and was influenced by international style. She was inspired by Wolfgang Weingart who introduced her to the new wave style. Nowadays she is credited for being an influential member of the new wave style. April found it hard to learn at Basel School of design as many of her teaches didn't speak english. This is what started her personal research as she was mainly teaching herself. 

Getting into design work

April experimented with images and new technology when beginning her work. During this time the newest print technology was the colour Xerox. She used a montaging technique that consisted up of photographs, paint, and torn images. This expanded the boundaries of non-digital creative photo manipulation. April hired Jayme Odgers, they became partners who have many great successful pieces of work. An example would be an advertisement for the olympics during 1984. The year of 1982 was when April was invited to become the Director of Visual Communications as CalArts. Because she was the director she had access to many great digital tools and a wide range of technology. Soon after April had got her first macintosh computer she started to work with video media as well as traditional print, this is because she enjoyed visual communications in different dimensions like space and time. 

Career 

Once April Greiman had completed her studies she worked as a freelance designer. She worked directly with with the curator of design, this was at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. During 1976 she moved to Los Angles. At this time she started to “blend technology, science, word and image with color and space”. Her first design studio was directed from from 1978 until 2004. Next April became the head of  the design department at the California Institute of the Arts this was the year of 1982. April managed to change the department name to ‘Visual Communications’. She did this because she felt as if the term ‘Graphic Design’ was too limiting and she didn't want to put stress on any future young designers. After this april returned to full time practice. She created a poster with Jayme Odger for the 1984 Los Angles Olympics. Which was created using a Macintosh computer. The year 1986 was when April produced an issue of design quarterly.  This is where she made the magazine into an artwork which folded out of the magazine it was almost three to six feet. This poster was a life sized picture of her naked body with symbols and text. The poster also was launched at the Walker Art Center's new Everyday Art Gallery. April continued to design honorable pieces of work such as the U.S postal stamp in 1995, and her largest scale size of work “hand holding a bowl of rice” which is 8200 square feet in 2007.  She also became a partner at a design firm called pentagram in Los Angles, April left after 5 years where she began her project Made in space during the year 2005. Later on she worked as a professor of design at the University of Southern California Roski School of Art in 2019. 

She currently is teaching at the Woodbury University, School of Architecture as an art instructor.

GLENDALE—The Glendale Community College District Board of Trustees has unanimously elected Dr. Armine Hacopian to serve as its Board President. The vote on April 20, 2021 marks the fifth time Dr. Hacopian will serve as Board President since 2001 when she was first elected to the GCCD Governing Board. She is one of the very few trustees in the California Community College system (116 community colleges, 72 districts, 440 trustees) to be elected five terms and to be selected to a fifth term Presidency.

“I am honored to serve the college and community in this important role and to work in close collaboration with the other four members of the GCC Board, GUSD, and City Council,” said Dr. Hacopian upon being selected to lead Glendale Community College.

Along with her co-trustees, one of her most important decisions made has been to have selected Dr. Viar to be the Superintendent/President of GCCD. She is of the opinion that Dr. Viar, an award-winning and highly respected educator, is one of the most successful and visionary CEO’s in California as evidenced by the annual evaluations and rankings. “Dr. Viar’s steady leadership has helped the college successfully transition to a remote learning environment in order to keep our students, faculty and staff safe while maintaining the high standards of education for which GCC is known. In addition, a highly qualified cadre of faculty and staff put forth their best effort to teach and support students so that their educational goals remain uninterrupted due to the pandemic.”

Another important accomplishment of her tenure, has been working closely with State Senator Anthony Portantino to pass Senate Bill 568 which authorizes GCC to close campus on April 24 to commemorate the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day without any loss of funding.

“On behalf of ANCA Glendale, we would like to congratulate Dr. Hacopian for serving as GCC Board President for her fifth time. We would also like to commend her for her unwavering dedication to the Glendale community and Glendale students” said ANCA Glendale Chairperson Lucy Petrosian. “We have had the honor to work side by side with Dr. Hacopian in advocating for Armenian American issues on an academic level, and we are looking forward to tackling more initiatives with our collective efforts.”

Dr. Hacopian proudly indicates that Glendale Community College has consistently earned maximum possible accreditation in California and that GCC has repeatedly earned a ‘Champion of Higher Education’ award for being one of California’s top colleges granting Associate Degrees for Transfers to four-year universities. Also, GCC is recognized as the number one community college in America for upward economic mobility. Also, GCC is ranked as one of the top most beautiful campuses in the Nation.

Dr. Hacopian cites that just like herself when she first came to America at the age of 16, without knowing any English, many students begin their college journey by taking English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. At GCC, these courses are offered at the Verdugo Campus and through Continuing Education at its Garfield Campus.

According to Dr. Hacopian, GCC is committed to fostering an environment where all students (40% of whom are of Armenian heritage) are welcome to pursue their educational goals. Despite the challenges created by the pandemic over of the last thirteen months, through the efforts of the Board and GCC’s leadership, GCC has made much progress in its commitment to creating and upholding an anti-racist and anti-bias learning environment.

Dr. Hacopian remarked, “that even during the pandemic, the college has continued its efforts to expand services to the community through expansion of facilities and the development of new programs and courses.” She would like the readers to know that through the leadership of the GCC Board and Dr. Viar, construction of a new athletics and physical education facility has moved forward with an anticipated opening date in fall 2021. Ground breaking has occurred for a five story, state-of-the art science building to open in 2023 and planning is advancing for a new music, dance, media arts, and kinesiology facility and conference center. And, since July 2020, 18 new courses and programs have been developed and 229 courses revised to reflect the new higher education mandates and the ever-changing career trends geared for the 21st century. She extends her most sincere gratitude to Glendale residents who prioritized the educational needs of GCC students in 2016 by voting to pass Measure GC, a $325,000,000 improvements bond measure without which none of the improvements would have been possible.

It is important to note that Dr. Hacopian has been a life-long educator who holds a BA, two MA’s, six credentials, and a doctorate in Organizational Management and Educational Administration. She has been a teacher, counselor, ESL Specialist, program administrator in K-12 for LAUSD, BUSD, and GUSD. In addition, she has taught at CLU, CSULA, and CSUN graduate schools in public policy, teacher training, and counseling programs. She continues to serve on thesis and doctoral dissertation committees which has become a platform for her through which she encourages students to earn advanced degrees. Also, she served on the Western Prelacy Board of Regents for many years.

Dr. Hacopian has been a keynote speaker during numerous conferences, seminars (public and private entities) and trainer-of-trainers for leadership in a-variety of areas. As a consultant she has focused on employee evaluations, job satisfaction strategies, cultural diversity, preventing sexual harassment, organizational goal setting, gender equality are to name a few. She has participated in various college/university accreditation teams which has enabled her to bring to GCC some of the best practices in higher education. She has served on numerous boards and has brought her leadership, commitment and dedication to serve the community for which she has been honored by numerous organizations. In addition, she has been recognized by LA County, CA Senate, CA Assembly, and Congressional elected officials for her contributions to the field of education.

As President of the Glendale Community College Governing Board, Dr. Hacopian would like to remind full-time students (those who qualify) that attending GCC may be tuition free for them. She encourages high school students and community members to consider attending GCC to further their English language and computer skills, to improve their career paths, to expand their knowledge of life skills, and to increase their chances of getting into the best universities after successfully completing the required two-year transfer coursework at Glendale Community College.

Dr. Hacopian is married to Vahe Hacopian (cofounders of Chamlian) and they have two daughters and five grandchildren, all of whom attended Chamlian Armenian School for their elementary education.

LUC Computer Science Fall 2018 Project Presentation results

Congrats to all the groups that presented their work this semester. Everyone who attended would agree that it was enlightening to see what our students are able to accomplish using the skills they've learned throughout their time here.

And a special congratulations to the winning project presentations. We had a special treat this year. The winner of the popular vote was actually a tie with 16 votes each, and it was tough competition with every single group having at least 8 votes! 

Luna Celestine's project, Paracosm, was a system to automatically generate 3D terrain for VR environments. And Rendezvous was an app that tracked whether a person was following a prescribed path toward a destination in order to assure their safety; that app was created by Eric Lymberopoulos, Paul Narup, Patrick Miramontes, Armin Ogorinac, and Devin Zayas.

The faculty vote went to Campfire, an app designed for posting and finding social events featuring an intuitive design and the option for building personal profiles. Campfire was the work of Jeremy Aranguren, Nora Bonifas, Maria Gocal, Linette Maliakal, and Janeen Soria.

Again, congrats to everyone on such an accomplished semester!

he’s literally the warmest boy and his place radiates that very same warmth which makes it hard for people to leave it once they visit

he’s a physical therapist who constantly works overtime so he’s made sure his home is a comforting, relaxing environment
