Weeklies: In transition
Good evening, learners!
We started off this week with an interview in a position I applied to. While reviewing for the things that could help me during the interview, I learned about the effects of climate change with tuna fishing and strengthened my knowledge with the agency's structure and its projects. I was anxious even before the interview started because of the delay and the lack of time for preparation. After the interview proper, I was overwhelmed and delighted with how it went. Regardless of the result, my heart is at peace. The biggest point of learning with this activity came after the interview itself: feedback. Using my Obsidian app, I took notes of the things I could've done better and developed alternative answers to the interview questions I was asked as reference for future interviews.
We went through with our November planning and started conceptualizing our priority projects for this month as a result of our last week's review.
The end of October also signaled the end of this mini-series called "today in photographs" in my personal Instagram page where I posted photographs of the highlights of my day-to-day activities. It was only visible to a select audience. It served two purposes: first, to document this particular phase in my life; and second, to bring an element of accountability with my progress on my healing journey.
For November, I started with another daily challenge called 30 DoP, which is intended for all my followers to see. This is my 30 Days of Photography/Positivity challenge. Its goal will be: (1) to serve as an avenue with my practice of using the "pro" mode in my phone’s camera app; and (2) to share the overwhelming positivity that's been pouring out into my life to those who are in need of a little dose of optimism and hope.
We also made progress with the YouTube course on Rhetoric and Composition: College Fundamentals by finishing Videos 19 to 24. I did a little bit of distillation of my notes under the third module of our Dr. Mendoza series. I procrastinated a little bit on my other areas of learning, because we didn't make any progress in the tipping elements class and the FAO e-learning course about other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) in marine fisheries.
This procrastination, however, allowed us to continue learning in areas that aren't my priority.
While having breakfast last Tuesday (Oct. 29), I watched this YouTube video [1] by FEATR about the cleanest city in the Philippines: Bayawan City, Negros Oriental. Its local government unit should be the country's model in developing a solid waste management system that actually works. Excitedly, I shared this with some of my friends who might be interested in the video: to Ana, who was writing a policy brief about the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act as a requirement for one of her courses; and to Ruby and David, who both were able to visit Bayawan City two years ago.
While doing my business in the comfort room, I re-watched a TED Talk titled "How to escape education's death valley" by Sir Ken Robinson [2], and I was able to peer into the faults within the American education system and alternatives to those. Since my country's education system is largely influenced by systems of the West, I was able to relate the points made by Dr. Robinson in a local setting. This, in turn, deepened my understanding of alternative education systems and how a personalized learning curriculum could help in "escaping education's death valley." It provided me with more evidence that this journey of self-learning I'm taking is a great first step to doing that. This talk inspired me greatly that I was able to outline a talk idea about how being curious could lead us to find our purpose in life, and eventually satisfy the Japanese concept of ikigai. One thing led to another, and we were able to brain dump about a project that revolves around curiosity last Saturday.
On Wednesday, I watched yet another YouTube video from ParkNotes [3] and learned about the "Zibaldone" (pl. zibaldoni) which is an Italian version of the commonplace book that contains their favorite quotes and passages. I learned that they didn't just write their favorites in their own notebooks, but they also shared their "memorized" quotes by writing these in the zibaldoni of their acquaintances in the public setting.
I also started reading the book "Thinking Better: The Art of the Shortcut in Math and Life" by the Oxford mathematician and professor Marcos Du Sautoy. I reckon that finding "shortcuts" I can use in this journey of learning will be valuable in maximizing my time to make progress in my numerous areas of learning.
I also procrastinated by watching multiple videos from Scott Young's channel. One video [4] emphasized the twelve foundational habits we must build first in order to make way for greater productivity and overall, a more meaningful life. Connecting these habits into my already-existing knowledge of the SPIRE model to becoming "anti-fragile" by Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar [5], the life portfolio model introduced by the Harvard Business Review [6], and the 12 Rules of Creation by Dan Koe [7], allowed me to develop more of the system I'm currently building.
I also learned how to play Kagura in Mobile Legends! Unfortunately, it took up a lot of my time.
On Saturday, I fell deeper into this procrastination state that I was doom scrolling for hours on end. I commented on a Reddit post that during moments of being stuck, small things are often the biggest victories. It was a reply from another comment which talked about how a simple accomplishment of making your bed early in the morning could snowball into a state of routines and productivity. With this, I realized that if I am having trouble with wanting to be productive and working on my projects–besides making the bed, which I already do every morning–the next simple thing I could do is to write in my commonplace notebook for fifteen to thirty minutes. I find that this helps because it resets my dopamine levels, especially when faced with the challenge brought by doom scrolling. Working in smaller chunks of time is already a proven technique in kick-starting productivity.
Finally, this Sunday, I went to a night out with my friends Mayi, Neil, and Dean, and just caught up with the happenings of each other's lives. I learned a lot about the conversations we had until two in the morning and this time made me appreciate more of the current situation I am in.
This week has been a reduced version of our productive self last week, but I think we’re still doing okay compared to before. Like I always say, keep wandering and chase what excites you.

"family issues - 02"
brown clay, plexiglass, recycled mirror
The idea of this project arose to respond to two specific needs: to interpret family dynamics and relationships in order to deepen the connection with each family member through reflection and art. Simultaneously, it aimed to concretize a mental and design journey developed during the academic period: how to effectively combine the concept of accessible and functional art with the idea of "pure" art? Am I more of a designer or a sculptor?
With the help of extensive readings and guidance from my advisor, there was a journey of conceptual evolution. During the third year, I modeled five vases as the first step of this research. Each piece corresponded to a close family member, while also seeking to synthesize my individual relationship with each one and my conception of their persona. It was an intimate and complicated process, attempting to grasp the essence of each person, their role in my life, and the continuously evolving relationship.
The next thought was to capture the differences through completely different forms, objects, and functionalities. Thus, the installation consists of five pieces of furniture, bearing a strong sculptural imprint achieved through the coil and slab technique. The chosen clay is a semi-refractory Etruscan clay with a brown hue.
In this series, each person transforms into an object. Each object functions perfectly in its individuality and is detached from the general context, but when recontextualized within it, gains something more. It regains a different meaning, an added complexity, just like what happens in family dynamics.
I also want to emphasize that one's role can be interchangeable over time. None of them are necessarily fixed: objects, like people, adapt to space and context, in their constant and necessary evolution.
For this design, I started with this mental standpoint: "A chair, father A lamp, mother A small table, older sister A mirror frame, younger sister A vase, self-portrait."
While working on the sketches, I felt these specific roles were most suitable for certain family members, considering the emotional stage and situations of that phase of my life. Consequently, the modeling evolved with different textures, shapes, and structures, each visually coherent with the others, creating a true system.

Token development process
The token development process is crucial for creating digital tokens used in blockchain applications. It begins with defining the token's purpose, followed by designing its specifications. Developers then code the smart contract and conduct thorough testing to ensure security and functionality.
Finally, the token is deployed on the blockchain, making it ready for diverse applications like decentralized finance and digital identities.
What is token development?
Token development is the process of creating digital tokens on a blockchain. These tokens can represent assets like currency, property, or access rights within an application. The process involves defining the token's features, setting parameters, and developing smart contracts to manage transactions. Token development is essential for decentralized finance (DeFi), initial coin offerings (ICOs), and other blockchain applications, facilitating new ways of value exchange and asset management.
Here’s the token development process condensed into five key steps
1. Conceptualization and Planning:
Token development involves defining the token’s purpose (e.g., utility, security, governance) and its role within the ecosystem, outlining its specific features and functions. It includes creating the economic model (tokenomics), determining the total supply, distribution strategy, and mechanisms for inflation or deflation, while considering incentives for holding or using the token.
Additionally, it requires ensuring regulatory compliance by researching legal requirements in relevant jurisdictions and consulting with legal experts to navigate complex regulations. This comprehensive process ensures the creation of a functional, secure, and compliant digital token.
2. Choosing a Blockchain Platform and Designing the Token
In token development, selecting the right blockchain platform is crucial, considering factors such as transaction speed, cost, and community support. Ethereum stands out for its strong smart contract capabilities, but alternatives like Binance Smart Chain or Solana may offer distinct advantages.
Additionally, choosing the appropriate token standard, such as ERC-20 for fungible tokens or ERC-721 for non-fungible tokens on Ethereum, is essential. It involves outlining the specific functions your token will require, laying the foundation for its utility and interoperability within the chosen blockchain ecosystem.
3. Smart Contract Development and Testing:
Smart contract coding entails the meticulous creation of code using an appropriate programming language, such as Solidity for Ethereum, to precisely define the token's operations, including issuance, transfers, and additional functionalities.
Following this, comprehensive testing procedures are undertaken in various environments, including development settings and test networks like Ethereum’s Ropsten. These tests aim to identify and address any potential bugs or issues, ensuring the seamless and accurate functionality of the smart contract across diverse scenarios and conditions.
4. Security Audit and Deployment:
Before proceeding with deployment, it is essential to undertake a comprehensive security audit by engaging third-party experts to thoroughly review the smart contract for any potential vulnerabilities. This audit process ensures the contract's robustness by identifying and addressing any discovered issues or weaknesses.
Following the audit and necessary refinements, the next step involves deploying the smart contract onto the main network of the selected blockchain. During this deployment phase, the initial token supply is minted, and distribution is carried out according to the predetermined tokenomics plan, effectively initiating the token's lifecycle within the blockchain ecosystem.
5. Post-Deployment Activities and Community Building:
Integration involves ensuring the token's compatibility with major wallets and exploring listings on cryptocurrency exchanges to enhance liquidity and enable seamless trading.
Marketing strategies are implemented to raise awareness and attract users and investors, with active engagement in social media, forums, and events to cultivate a robust and supportive community.
Ongoing updates are crucial, necessitating constant monitoring of the token's performance and smart contract security, with timely implementation of updates and upgrades to address issues, introduce new features, and adhere to evolving regulatory requirements.
Conclusions:
In conclusion, the token development process is fundamental for creating digital tokens that power a wide range of blockchain applications. By following a structured approach—starting from conceptualization and planning, selecting the appropriate blockchain platform, meticulously coding and testing smart contracts, performing rigorous security audits, and engaging in post-deployment activities—developers can ensure the creation of secure, functional, and compliant digital tokens.
These tokens not only enable new forms of value exchange and asset management but also play a pivotal role in the growth and evolution of decentralized finance, initial coin offerings, and other innovative blockchain-based solutions.

Reflecting on the Journey of Creating "Elsewhere": A Tale of Growth and Innovation
The path of an artist is often paved with challenges, surprises, and above all, growth. This is a reflection on my journey through the creation of "Elsewhere," a project that encapsulates not only my artistic abilities but also the lessons I've learned and the personal transformation I've undergone.
From the very start, "Elsewhere" wasn't just a project; it was an opportunity to explore the depths of my creativity and push the boundaries of my skills. Divided into four distinct phases, the project spanned from conceptualization to execution, each phase contributing to a tapestry of learning and achievement.
The initial phase saw me delving into research, crafting a story that would serve as the foundation for the entire project. This phase was about setting goals and acknowledging my strengths and areas for improvement. It was a strategic start, like mapping out the coordinates of a journey into the unknown.
The second phase, building the scene, was like constructing a puzzle. High-poly modeling, attention to detail, and a strong narrative formed the core. I embraced tutorials, experimenting with techniques, and learning new tools. But art is never a solitary endeavor. Constructive feedback from mentors and peers was a crucial compass guiding me towards growth.
The third phase was about refining, a process akin to a sculptor perfecting the fine lines of their masterpiece. This stage involved blending creativity with technicality, infusing life into the environment. I experimented with materials, lighting, and set dressing. It was during this phase that I discovered the incredible power of geometry nodes and their ability to breathe life into even the smallest details.
Feedback played a vital role in this journey. Each critique was a stepping stone towards refinement, towards crafting a more immersive experience. It was a humbling process that taught me the value of collaboration and the potential for innovation that arises from it.
Finally, the fourth phase marked the integration of feedback and the application of final touches. It was about polishing, perfecting, and ensuring that every element resonated with the narrative. The joy of seeing the project come together was unparalleled, a testament to perseverance, dedication, and an unyielding passion for the craft.
Throughout this journey, the importance of time management and adaptability became evident. Unexpected obstacles, like a relocation and a burnout phase, demanded a shift in plans. Flexibility became my ally, and it was during these moments of adaptation that I found new ways to approach challenges.
Reflective documentation (blog) emerged as a constant companion. Weekly reflections captured my thoughts, progress, and setbacks, forming a timeline of growth. This practice provided clarity, enabling me to evaluate my journey and make informed decisions.
The completion of "Elsewhere" is a culmination of more than just visual elements. It's the realization of the artist's evolution, the maturation of skills, and the understanding that growth isn't linear. It's a journey of self-awareness, where weaknesses were addressed with determination, and strengths were honed to a finer edge.
As I look back on this voyage of creativity, innovation, and growth, I am reminded that every artist's journey is unique. "Elsewhere" stands as a testament to the endless possibilities that unfold when passion and dedication converge. It's a chapter in the ongoing narrative of an artist, a chapter that reflects not just an artistic outcome, but a deeply personal evolution.

This process involves transforming initial 2D concepts into breathtaking 3D magic, bringing characters, environments, and stories to life in a multidimensional space.
The journey begins with the conceptualization phase, where artists brainstorm ideas, develop concepts, and create 2D sketches. This stage is crucial for visualizing the desired aesthetics, style, and overall look of the animation. Artists delve into the depths of their imagination, crafting characters with unique personalities, designing captivating environments, and shaping engaging narratives. The goal is to translate these 2D concepts into the three-dimensional world of animation.
Once the concept is solidified, the process moves into the pre-production stage. This involves creating detailed storyboards that outline the sequence of events, camera angles, and character movements. Storyboards serve as a blueprint for the animation, helping artists visualize the flow of the narrative and plan the composition of each scene.
With the storyboards as a guide, the next step is modeling. Artists use specialized software to sculpt digital 3D models of characters, objects, and environments. This process requires technical skill, as artists manipulate vertices, edges, and polygons to bring the 2D concepts into the third dimension. Attention to detail is paramount, as artists meticulously refine the models to capture the essence and unique characteristics of the original designs.
Once the models are complete, the focus shifts to texturing and shading. Artists meticulously paint textures onto the 3D models, bringing them to life with vibrant colors, realistic materials, and intricate details. Shading techniques are used to simulate how light interacts with the surfaces, adding depth and realism to the animation. This process further enhances the visual appeal and believability of the 3D models, ensuring they closely align with the original 2D concepts.
The next phase is rigging, where artists create a virtual skeleton-like structure within the 3D models. This allows for realistic movement and articulation of characters and objects. Rigging involves setting up controls, joints, and constraints to ensure smooth and natural animation. By carefully rigging the models, animators have the flexibility to bring characters to life, imbuing them with emotions, expressions, and fluid movements.
Once the models are rigged, the animation process begins. Animators create keyframes, define poses, and fine-tune movements to tell the story. This stage requires creativity, skill, and an understanding of timing and movement principles. Animators breathe life into the characters, bringing them to life with a wide range of emotions, actions, and interactions. Each frame is meticulously crafted to create seamless and captivating animation.
In the final stage, lighting, and rendering add the finishing touches to the animation. Artists set up virtual lights to illuminate the scenes, creating mood, depth, and atmosphere. The animation is then rendered, converting the 3D models and animations into the final images or video. This process involves powerful computing and rendering algorithms to achieve the desired level of visual fidelity.
In conclusion, the process of transforming 2D concepts into 3D magic is a fascinating journey in 3D animation. It involves the conceptualization of ideas, the meticulous creation of 3D models, the artistry of texturing and shading, the technical precision of rigging, the creativity of animation, and the final touches of lighting and rendering. Through this process, artists and animators bring characters, environments, and stories to life, captivating audiences with breathtaking visuals and immersive storytelling. It is the magic of 3D animation that transforms 2D concepts into captivating experiences that engage and delight audiences around the world.

How to Start Customer Centric Start-ups for Sustainable Profits
“When you are still trying to prove yourself in any career or line of business, you spend most of your time trying to make people understand what you are all about. However, when you have made it, people make it their business to understand you” Basi Malatji
Regardless of whether you are currently a white-collar professional, a business graduate or a drop-out looking to start your own business, or someone bored with their current job, starting a business could be a great option.
Starting a business is hard. Responsible Entrepreneurship is not only about making money but more about providing solutions to problems and meeting needs in whichever form or shape they may be. Responsible Entrepreneurs are those who are not just in it for the money even though they stand to make a lot of it in the process. They lead by an unquenchable desire, drive and passion to make this world a better place and living on it an enjoyable experience. Entrepreneurship is a calling of passion to change lives and the environment for the better and make a profit in the process.
If you are still thinking of starting a business, then understanding the fundamentals for entrepreneurs and start-ups will be a great resource for you. It will guide you through the process of business idea formulation and other critical requirements for starting your business. However if you are ready to start and want to avoid the mistakes that others have made by learning from their experiences then avoiding mistakes that most entrepreneurs make can prove to be a valuable resource you just needed.
Starting a business has evolved hugely over the years but the fundamentals have remained the same. Here we are going to share the benefits of starting a business, key steps for starting a business, and important considerations for establishing a small business.
There are many different types of businesses out there (manufacturing/design/restaurants, wholesaling, retail, construction, and service) each with a different set of requirements. While the approaches in establishing these businesses may differ, the fundamentals of starting and running these businesses are basically the same. All these businesses must have an internet presence in one form or another if they are to reach as many potential customers as possible.
Just like with human life, businesses have to be conceived (ideation, conceptualization, tested), given birth to (launched), and nurtured (managed and grew). Each stage is a process on each own and needs to be given the necessary attention and time it requires. By rushing it you run the risk of aborting the potential of that business growing and becoming a mega-enterprise.
We live in an era in which we witness a faster pace of technological development but even with that there will always be a need for knowing and understanding concepts of business management and growth. So, basic understanding of business conceptualization on the side of entrepreneurs and potential business owners becomes critical in making sure that the foundations of the potential business ventures they envisage are solid. This basic understanding on the part of the entrepreneur and emerging business owner determines the success and failure of the venture long before it starts. It entails understanding the stages of the business process, from formulating a business idea (ideation) to testing it (conceptualization) to making money out of it (operationalization). Bravery and confidence to succeed come from the know-how and ability to execute. It does not only make your competition look amateurish but a display of pure excellence. Planning, starting and growing a business is a game that needs a thorough understanding by all involved.
Start-ups are small businesses with the attitude of wanting to expand and grow while small businesses start and remain small. There are many factors that entrepreneurs and start-ups must consider before they start that determine the business concept’s potential for growth beyond the small business stage. These factors can easily be identified through the planning/conceptualization phase which is made up of the Value Proposition and the Business Model. Truth be told, there can never be effective business planning without great Value Propositions and Business Models. These two processes are critical foundational determinants that determine the success, profitability and continuity of the business long before it started. Failure to consider these two critical planning processes is a recipe for disaster.
Entrepreneurs and business owners
Not every business owner is an entrepreneur. The difference between the two is in their definition and attributes. You don’t have to be an entrepreneur to own a business.
Why start a business?
This article assumes that you have already figured out your business idea and have tested it, if you haven’t done so yet, no big deal. Potentially profitable ideas are those that are desirable, feasible and viable. They are seeking to provide solutions to market problems thus creating happy customers. Entrepreneurs and Start-Ups: The Fundamental Truths is the relevant resource for more information on identifying profitable ideas and more.
There are numerous reasons for starting a business and differ from one person to the next. It is however very important to be honest with yourself regarding your passion, skill set and market demand when you plan to start a business.
There are many advantages for starting your own business. Firstly, you wake up every morning doing what you have always wanted to do. Fulfilment is the first reward. Secondly, you have the opportunity to change lives and the world. This is accomplished by offering products and services that are intended to make other peoples’ lives better. The opportunity to impact lives is the second reward. Thirdly, you have an opportunity to make a profit. The opportunity to create wealth is the third and final reward.
Steps to starting a business
This is not a one size fit all process. Many people will for sure list many different steps under this heading for different reasons. I have deliberately listed only four steps that I believe are critical to the process of establishing a business from scratch and are relevant to this article.
1) Check out your passion and align it to your skill set.
Check your skill set in relation to your passion. This is important more especially if you want to be in it for a long haul. This you can do through performing your own SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) relating to the type of business you wish to be involved in. Your passion and skill set will be your anchor during the initial trying times when your business starts to take off which is what every start-up business go through. You really need to know why you want to start a business. Is it for the money, freedom and flexibility, to solve a problem, or some other reason? Solving a problem and making a profit in the process is what responsible entrepreneurs do. This approach to establishing a business ensures sustainability through happy customers.
2) Figure out your market/niche (ideation)
Research societal, environmental and business problems to determine which one you can be able to address in relation to your passion and skill set determined in step 1 above. The criteria for idea choice should be desirability, feasibility and viability. You have to test the validity of the idea by conducting a short survey from the identified market. Entrepreneurs and Start-Ups: The Fundamental Truths is a relevant resource to help with the understanding of this step and more.
3) Understand the pain points of that market/niche (business planning)
This is the business planning stage of the process of establishing a business. The best tool to use for this purpose is the Value Proposition. This will help you determine the most urgent problems and needs of your target market and if you will be providing a product or service. basis.
Small businesses, start-ups and their failures are well documented facts. There is a long list of variables and factors that are identified as the root causes of the alarming failure of start-ups (80% plus) in their first 36 months of operation.
How the entrepreneurs start their businesses has a significant impact on the success or failure of their enterprises. So, starting right is critical and it involves giving attention to basic but crucial factors that are often neglected
One key determinant of business success that is overlooked in all the studies for small business and start-up performance is the FOUNDATION of the business which is made up of the Value Proposition and the Business Model.
Business Value Proposition
Value Propositions are mechanisms for evaluating businesses to check if they reflect what customers value most. They form the core of your company’s competitive strategy by differentiating it from competitors. A value proposition describes the benefits customers can expect from your product or service. Your value proposition is the primary reason a prospective customer will use your product or service.
Understanding the problem you are solving for your customers is undoubtedly the biggest challenge you will face when you are starting a business or seeking to grow your small business or start-up. Customers need to want what you are selling and your product needs to solve a real problem (important and urgent). Proper market problem identification and diagnosis ensure market fit solution design resulting in happy customers and sustainably increased business revenue.
Value Propositions help to improve customer understanding and engagement with the company offerings. Powerful Value Propositions help customers to truly understand the value of company products and services. They also help prospective customers to see how products or services benefit them and are their best available option. Happy customers are a product of a properly constituted Value Proposition resulting in sustainably increased business revenue. More importantly, Value Propositions help entrepreneurs, start-ups and small businesses to target the right prospective customers thus helping companies to grow their market share and sustainable increase business revenue.
Value Propositions and Value Proposition statements are two different issues. Value Proposition statements are derived from the process of Value Proposition design. They are well thought deductive statements at the end of the Value Proposition design process. Your value proposition statement is the promise you give to customers that you will deliver something of value to them. It's a statement that explains: (1) the benefit you offer; (2) who will benefit from it; and (3) why you are the best choice to deliver that benefit. There can never be an effective Business Model without a great Value Proposition and there can never be an effective business planning without a great Business Model. So, every business should design one.
Start-up Value Positioning is a practical online resource that highlights the critical role business Value Propositions play in ensuring profitability, sustainability and success of start-ups and small businesses. It offers the shortest possible time frame to achieve the course outcome. It enables entrepreneurs, aspiring business owners and start-ups to identify and diagnose the market problems and needs so that they can be able to design or source the right solutions resulting in happy customers and sustainably increased business revenue. It offers the shortest possible time frame to design own business Value Proposition.
4) Figure out the mechanisms for proving solutions to your market/niche
The best tool to use for this purpose is the Business Model. This will help you determine your business blueprint to deliver value to customers and make money in the process, how much it will cost to establish your business, key business drivers, the revenue streams and profit. It will also allow you to set the critical success criteria for your business.
Business Models
Understanding the problem you are solving for your customers is a critical step in ensuring potential growth of your business. Customers need to want what you are selling and your product needs to solve a real problem (important and urgent). This is the role played by Value Propositions. But, ensuring that your product fits the needs of the market (Value Proposition) is only one part of starting or growing a successful business. The other key ingredient is figuring out how your business is going to make money. This is where your business model comes into play.
A Business Model is a plan for the successful operation of a business, identifying sources of revenue, the intended customer base, products, and details of financing. A business model is a blueprint for small business and start-up success – your business’ roadmap for success.
Before you start your small business which has the potential to be a start-up and grow to be a giant enterprise, you need to create a business model. A Business Model is not a business plan. However, there can never be an effective business planning without a great Business Model and there can never be an effective Business Model without a great Value Proposition.
Properly crafted, designed and modelled businesses warrant desirability, feasibility and viability of the business project resulting in business success. Great Business Models are crucial for the profitability, success and sustainability of any business organization. Business Models impact three areas of the business:
1. Everything it takes to make something - design, raw materials, stock, labour, and so on (planning).
2. Everything it takes to sell that thing – marketing and promotions, distribution (channels), delivering a service, and processing the sale (systems and processes).
3. How and what the customer pays - pricing strategy, payment methods, payment timing, and so on (revenue streams).
Business Models force entrepreneurs to put aside the excitement of business ideas and make a realistic evaluation of their potential success and growth prospects of their businesses. A proper business model helps entrepreneurs, start-ups and small businesses to figure the following core ingredients out:
1) Business concept – what problem the business is solving and for whom;
2) Customer value creation - how the business plans to create customer value;
3) Value distribution - how the business plans to deliver the products or services to customers;
4) Competitiveness - how the business plans to stay competitive; and
5) Revenue and costs - all revenue and costs you can anticipate.
Business Models help entrepreneurs, small business owners and start-ups to consider all possible areas of concern for establishing and growing their businesses. Once you have proven the feasibility of your new business or your start-up expansion plan with a business model, you will then be ready to engage a more comprehensive business plan. There are no shortcuts to a profitable, sustainable and successful business. This is an investment worth making with huge returns for success. So, every business should have a Business Model. There can never be an effective Business Model without a great Value Proposition and there can never be an effective business planning without a great Business Model.
Start-up Business Modelling is a practical online resource that highlights the critical role Business Models play in the success of start-ups and small businesses. It enables entrepreneurs, aspiring business owners and start-ups to successfully build their own Business Models so that they can be able to properly manage their business activities resulting in efficient minimization of costs and sustainable increase in business revenue and profit. It offers the shortest possible time frame to build own Business Model.
The above steps apply to both offline and online businesses. Each business type has processes that need unbundling for ease of understanding.
To really grow your business after starting it you need to step up out of your comfort zone and think out of the box.

What is Lettrism?

Lettrism is a multi-disciplinary creative movement born in Paris in 1946 under the guiding force of Isidore Isou. The movement soon expanded by attracting numerous creative people, such as Gabriel Pomerand, Maurice Lemaître, Gil J Wolman… (and over the years, many others joined for particular periods or specific contributions). Lettrism systematically took on all the fields of knowledge, principally in the arts (Poetry, Painting, Novel, Cinema, Photography…) but also in the social sciences (Economics, Law, Psychology…) and natural sciences (Chemistry, Medicine,…).
Lettrism is a new philosophy of creativity and aims to transform society by a creative method – “La Créatique / Creatics” – and by a new understanding of the branches of knowledge – Kladology. The writing and symbols used in Lettrist works are not to be seen as carrying a useful message, but solely as the object of art, as a third visual material after the figurative and the abstract. In Lettrism, kladology, the science of the branches of knowledge, allows one to approach each discipline fully aware and desiring revolution, with conscious creative positivism that prohibits chance mixtures of genres like the today often favored all-in-one. The happening as a creation is thus rejected by Lettrists. Lettrists keep the theatrical, artistic or poetic dimensions separate, including when they use the supertemporal, which invites the participation of the spectator, but in a well-defined context.
Even today, the movement continues to produce numerous creations as well as propose areas for reflection.
This movement was named Lettrism because in its historic phase it was first of all involved in upsetting poetry, which was judged to be exhausted when it was conveyed by words and concepts. Poetic Lettrism clearly and systematically for the first time (after a few hints, for example, by Dada) proposed a new conception of poetry entirely reduced to the letter, thus eliminating all semantics. The use of new letters, symbolized by the letters of the ancient Greek alphabet, and then by numbers on the scores of this music-poetry, calls on all the sounds that a human body can produce, integrated into a sort of super-score, anticipating the later movements of sound poetry and performance art. Lettrist poetry is also music, but without instruments and rejecting its secular concept, the notion of pitch. Thus Lettrist music-poetry requires a certain flatness while introducing original sound and noise combinations.

In the same way, Lettrism latched onto other art and produced an impressive number of visual works using letters as the exclusive compositional element. To avoid any confusion, one must understand that Lettrism is not a language and thus the writing and symbols used in these works are not to be seen as carrying a useful message, but solely as the object of art, as a third visual material after the figurative and the abstract.
Lettrism thus requires rigorous critical judgment: for instance a foreigner who speaks and is not understood, is not an unknown Lettrist poet, and any writing, even if framed and exhibited, is just a manuscript and cannot be called a work of art.
Besides, the absolute systematizing of Lettrist practice, combining numerous works by several artists with a wide range of visual art personalities, is clearly different from the sporadic use of written forms, as seen before Lettrism and much more since the appearance of the Lettrist movement.
Lettrist visual art quickly added to its palette all the signs of all past, present, as well as invented cultures, overthrowing the meaning that naturally distinguishes it from calligraphy. For more clarity and because letters become only one element of this super-writing, this section would be called Hypergraphics. Thus, the majority of Lettrist painting is really Hypergraphics, an art of signs that is truly prophetic in our society full of pictograms, logos and other graffiti.
But the true importance of Lettrism is to simultaneously attack all the fields of knowledge and artistic expression, for example cinema, photography, theatre, dance, and also economics, mathematics, chemistry, law, theology. Lettrism, unless seen in its totality, which is the only way to grasp its true dimensions, is thus an artistic and intellectual upheaval of great significance, and the precursor of numerous developments in society.
Isou, who created the founding concepts within which the members of the group would carve out their own places, insisted for example on the amplifying and chiseling (or deconstructing) periods of each art, where after being raised up and constructed, it is reduced and eventually destroys itself, before being reborn in a Lettrist form (e.g. painting reborn in Hypergraphic form). Thus in cinema, which Isou overthrew once and for all with his film Le Traité de bave et d’éternté / Treatise on Venom and Eternity (1951), begins the phase of chiseling film when Isou destroys the concept of the classical image by using scraps of film found in trash bins, scratching graffiti on these images to make them unrecognizable. He goes even further in radically disassociating the sound and the image, viewed as two totally independent channels, discrépant or discrete (like later works in music by John Cage and in dance by Merce Cunningham, for example).
In 1956 Isou went beyond this art of the letter and the sign by creating imaginary or infinitesimal art (also called esthapéïrisme / esthaperism), which allows one to imagine a work that would be conceived in the mind, starting from a concrete sign, whether poetic, cinematic, or pictorial. It is the conceptual art par excellence and one of the most productive fields opened up by Isou. In 1960, Isou added the supertemporal framework, which calls on spectators or listeners to participate in working on an art work, which is constantly renewed and goes beyond the finite time-frame of a classical art proposition.
One of the other fundamental dimensions of the movement is economics, with Isou’s Traité d’Economie Nucléaire /Treatise on Nuclear Economics, and his first prophetic political manifesto Le soulèvement de la Jeunesse / Youth Uprising, of which the first volume appeared in 1949. On the occasion of this publication Isou and Lemaître met, a momentous meeting that started a mutually enhancing relationship. Indeed, these two will be practically the only consistent members of the group or more accurately, of the groups, in view of their constant metamorphoses over sixty years. Their vision of transforming society led Lemaître to present his candidacy for the Legislature in 1967, and Isou in 1993. Still today, Lemaître sends out manifestos attempting to promote the innovative concepts that seek to be an alternative to Marxist or capitalist models, based on a society basically involving the notions of creation and innovation.
If Isidore Isou created Lettrism in 1946, launching this movement through a journal with the provocative title La Dictature Lettriste / The Lettrist Dictatorship, he was joined by various first class creators such as Gabriel Pomerand, nicknamed the archangel of Lettrism, who became a Lettrist activist and wrote some of its most emblematic Lettrist pages. His hypergraphic novel (originally called a metagraph) Saint-Ghetto des prêts / Saint Ghetto of the Loans, his oil paintings, and his Symphonie en K / Symphony in K are part of the basis of Lettrist esthetics. And whereas Pomerand soon left the Lettrist group, Maurice Lemaître was the one who faithfully stood shoulder to shoulder with Isou. Author of a prolific canon that is detailed in the other pages of this site, Lemaître clearly became the major Lettrist film-maker as well as the greatest photographer of the movement. He has been a prolific writer, but his acute sense of polemic would lead him to a public isolation that was the lot of all the Lettrists during their lives. This public isolation and misunderstanding is now progressively overcome by high quality exhibitions and catalogs, showing the true contributions of this group, not in a confusing or partial manner, but by an enlightened and well-documented choice.
The history of this group is naturally plural and the numerous strong personalities that pass through it are like so many currents, more or less in relationships with Isou’s initial ideas. Pomerand and Lemaître, like later on Jacques Spacagna, Roland Sabatier, Broutin or François Poyet and Jean-Pierre Gillard … represent some of the exciting possibilities of the Isouian line, even though sometimes upsetting it. At the same time, other no less important Lettrists, starting with Gil J Wolman, adopt a more divergent view, both using and challenging the new Lettrist concepts. Nevertheless, and this is the case for Wolman and his megapneumies (deep breath poetry), his film L’Anticoncept / The Anticoncept, his Lettrist paintings and even some of his scotch tape art, they would also write some essential pages in a movement that would be diminished without their participation.
As for François Dufrêne, he would concentrate on Lettrist poetry (and also film) while Jean-Louis Brau would be involved in everything. The case of Guy Debord remains rather amusing and marginal in the sense that, dazzled by Isou in 1951, he joined the Lettrist gang only for a year, but a year during which he would make his major film, Hurlements en faveur de Sade / Shouts in Favor of Sade, before going on to found a Lettrist International (1952-1957) with Wolman and Brau; this movement would be the antechamber to the future Situationist International that would permit him to become this French National Treasure* that still is often the first gateway to Lettrism.
The complexity and longevity of Lettrism make it a difficult subject to grasp; it claims to be a completely different species from other groups of its time or even of the past. For example, the infinitesimal makes it similar to what the Fluxus movement would develop later, even though it is opposed to it. In Fluxus art and life are mixed together, while for Lettrism, kladology, the science of the branches of knowledge, allows one to approach each discipline fully aware and desiring revolution, with conscious creative positivism that prohibits chance mixtures of genres like the all-in-one. The happening is thus rejected by Lettrists. Lettrists keep the theatrical, artistic or poetic dimensions separate, including when they use the supertemporal, which invites the participation of the spectator, but in a well-defined context.
If one thinks of the ultimate goal of Lettrism: “la société paradisiaque concrete,” the concrete paradisiac society, a sort of heaven on Earth: a world made up of creators, a world where contrary to the anarchical “Neither God nor master,” a person must change into “All Gods, all Masters”, then one understands better the gulf that has been dug out between the Lettrists, the most radical and innovative group of the second half of the twentieth century, and a society that seems in a hurry to consummate its loss, incapable of recognizing the still living creators.
