𝚡𝚞𝚒 𝚝𝚊𝚗 𝚜𝚘𝚞𝚛: xui tan sour's fan toss is one of the prime reasons mai is a fan-geared character, as the concept of bladed weapons that are both stationary and mobile ( their fatal move is tossing their fans and slicing anyone in their path while almost looking like twin dragons coursing through the arena ... so badass ). 

  𝚛𝚎𝚝𝚜𝚞 𝚞𝚗𝚘𝚑𝚊𝚗𝚊: like unohana, mai's disposition is complex and two sided: on one hand, there is the pleasant, loving, and almost jolly character that friends get to see ... but on the inside, there is a boiling bloodlust that comes out at the worst of times. sometimes the two merge, which make for a bloodbath with a smile on their face. 

  𝚙𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚌𝚎𝚜𝚜 𝚔𝚒𝚝𝚊𝚗𝚊: a total fan favorite, kitana, like xui tan sour, is here for here war fans, as well as her awesome wind abilities ( her fan lift in the latest mortal kombat is just stellar by the way: very clever and coy for mai ).

  𝚔𝚊𝚛𝚊𝚔𝚞: a prime study in both mai's oni heritage and their pleasurable yet slightly dark disposition. like karaku, mai is often very relaxed and pleased about mostly anything, including a battle to the death. also, karaku's a wind demon so the cards really do match up here.

  𝚖𝚊𝚒 𝚜𝚑𝚒𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚞𝚒: the biggest inspiration and the reason for their namesake: they're both masters of the konuichi seduction style, only to mask their fighting prowess in battle. they've both got agile movement, swift attacks, and very jiggly assets ( though my mai wouldn't lust after andy ... they'd be much more interested in terry ~ ).

  𝚌𝚑𝚎𝚜𝚑𝚒𝚛𝚎: an example of when mai's more ... dark tendencies are exploited: if someone needs to be killed, assassinated, or just plain taken out, mai is more than happy to do it, and spares no expense to make sure that it's done. 

  𝚣𝚎𝚙𝚑𝚢𝚛𝚖𝚘𝚗: while mai doesn't have avian features like this beautiful digimon, they do have their wind abilities, using their fans to generate slicing winds and hurricane-level breezes when a fight calls for them. 

  𝚗𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚒𝚎𝚕 𝚝𝚞 𝚘𝚍𝚎𝚕𝚜𝚌𝚑𝚠𝚊𝚗𝚌𝚔: opposite of cheshire, nelliel represents mai's more jovial aspects and livelier personality, though also an instance where mai locks in for a fight and can get dead serious if the situation calls for it ( also ... tackle hugs ... lots of tackle hugs ... )

  𝚝𝚎𝚖𝚊𝚛𝚒: no, mai does not have the iconic giant folding fan yet, but temari's wind jutsus are a prime example of how mai's wind powers emulate, from there ability to create gigantic tornados that can suck in and slice anything, to causing humongous gale winds that batter or knock down anything in their path.

Conquer Prompt #3

The Raijin home is distinctive for it's muted colors, brutal angles, and hip roof, with inclusion of glass instead of delicate shoji to protect from torrential rain. The weather that hangs above shifts with Hugo's mood, the grounds often shrouded in dim darkness which gives an uninviting appearance. His furniture is low, central yard orderly with stone and plants, and the entrance is lined with red lanterns. He keeps an office to study and read in private. His kitchen is modern to assist in creating any dish he desires.

PROMPT: (SOME) CHARACTER INSPIRATIONS

:: SLEEPING BEAUTY (THE OG AKA THE FAIRYTALE)

The storybook version of Sleeping Beauty, the character, might not inform much of Nico's character at first glance, but what does do so is the motif of the hedge of thorns. The aesthetic of flowers being such a strong obstacle and threat that they protect an entire castle for a hundred years is quite an impactful image. And in some versions of the fairytale, only the princess's true love manages to make his way through the thorns. Not an obvious inspiration, but the aesthetic is there.

:: ROSAMUND DU PRIX (AKA SLEEPING BEAUTY - DIMENSION 20: NEVERAFTER)

This subversion of the fairytale highlights the parallels that can be drawn between Nico and Sleeping Beauty which might not have been obvious at first glance. Instead of waiting to be saved by true love's kiss, Rosamund has to learn to grow up and be strong for herself, finding strength in herself in the process. Nico as well had (and has) to learn to look not just for beauty in the world around him, but for his own abilities and talents.

:: POKÉMON (YOU KNOW... THE GRASS TYPES) ... AND ALSO DIGIMON

It's a bit silly and a bit obvious, but quite a clear mental connection. When it comes to using flowers , thorns and vines for magically attacking monsters, thinking of Vine Whip or Petal Dance is fairly obvious. Roserade, eat your heart out! Similarly, it might be just me, but I keep thinking about Rosemon, the literal Digimon representation of flowers, love and beauty - all sexy with a whip of thorns. That's what I imagine Nico to channel when he comes into his own with some more self-confidence.

:: MARY SUE (YOU KNOW... THE TROPE)

This one is, once again, more about the subversion of the idea rather than about a parallel to the character itself. Nico before the call was very much living the Mary Sue life. A sensitive but artistic softboi, sociable and bubbly, modest yet hardly facing any hardship. Wasn't life just beautiful? Of course he had to face the fact that Mary Sue's world is pure illusion, that the world is dangerous and flawed, and that there was darkness and danger he would have to face.

gloria delgado-pritchett: silvio is someone that has a lot of stories of growing up in his hometown and most of them are wild. when he first left venezuela, godspead was the only reason why he was comfortable because he used to only speak spanish. it was still hard shifting from culture to culture. he's proud of his latino roots and his family was very relationships-focused with a high sense of hiearchy. going from that to a task-focused group mindset has been a little hard. sabretooth: his divine mauling makes him look a little like sabretooth when it comes to the claws that he grows out. this is when he feel the need to really protect himself. he proves that he won't go down with a fight and it's up until life or death. catwoman: when it comes to his physical weapons and fighting style without powers, he resembles catwoman/selina kyle. someone that's quick on their feet, uses a whip to best their foes, and is pretty flexible even during combat. cheetah: someone that was highly intelligent and that's why she got into the mess that she did. often times it's hard to mix the beast within and the human that you are. if he gives too much into his animal mimicry, he tends to get a little bit too wild and forget common decency/manners. vixen: when animal mimicry isn't physical, when he's using the soul warriors, they come out the same way as vixen's powers. he tends to summon these from different areas on the grounds and have them attack his opponent. he also feels highly connected to them, being able to gain an eagle's eyesight while not fighting. cisco ramon: one thing about silvio is that he's never going to lose his optimistic view on life. whether it's because he's trying to honor silvana or just because he's like that naturally, it's always going to be a part of him. he'd much rather look at the glass half full than even begin to think it could be half empty.

general  areas:  the  entrance  and  some  of  the  other  rooms  have  an  ornate  stained  glass  window.  aside  from  that,  it's  a  pretty  quaint  but  comfortable  abode.  the  walls  are  all  white  and  the  decorations,  for  the  most  part,  are  gold  or  marble.  he  enjoys  uniformity.  the  kitchen  has  a  small  island  and  on  top,  a  small  plant  as  well.

bathroom:  has  all  of  the  essentials  that  you  would  need.  a  simple  tub,  a  sink,  a  mirror,  and  a  toilet.  everything  is  tucked  away  under  the  sink,  either  in  the  large  cabinet  or  in  the  small  drawers.  the  shower  doors  are  glass  and  there's  another  mirror  in  there.  it  can  get  quite  steamy  since  he  prefers  hot  showers  above  all  else.

bedroom:  the  bed  frame  is  described  as  champagne,  at  least  in  the  catalog  that  it  was  picked  from.  the  sheets  are  all  white  and  soft.  the  pillows  are  all  satin  because  he  feels  like  it  would  be  the  best  to  not  get  any  oils  on  his  face.  a  small  lamp  and  vase  are  on  his  nightstand  at  all  times  with  a  rosary  hanging  from  them.

extra  details:  apparently  he  is  very  big  on  reflections  (his  own  and  of  others)  because  there's  a  lot  of  mirrors  around.  he  also  has  a  lot  of  white  anointed  candles,  depictions  of  both  xōchiquetzal  &  the  virgin  mary,  and  flowers.  the  place  feels  extremely  clean.  both  in  the  physical  and  spiritual  sense.  he  wouldn't  have  it  any  other  way.

❀  -  the  living  area:  though  they  wouldn't  consider  it  too  grand,  sabri's  den  is  rather  posh  for  a  24  year  old,  with  a  crushed  velvet  indigo  couch,  white  throw  pillows  they  somehow  manage  to  always  keep  clean  and  bright,  stained  marble-esque  etching  and  molding,  a  few  potted  plants  here  &  there,  and  a  fireplace  right  behind  their  polished  wood  coffee  table.

❀  -  the  kitchen  area: matching  the  theme  of  the  living  room,  sabri's  kitchen  area  is  of  an  indigo  scheme,  but  the  white  is  replaced  with  a  copper  /  bronze  /  gold  accent  in  terms  of  metal  work  for  the  appliances.  compared  to  the  rest  of  his  lodging,  sabri  thinks  his  kitchen  looks  relatively  tame.  swing  by  for  some  french  toast  &  coffee  if  you  ever  have  the  time. 

❀  -  the  seed  room:  being  an  avid  gardener  and  trained  herbalist,  sabri  has  an  enter  room  dedicated  to  a  myriad  of  seeds  cultivated  for  their  personal  garden  outback,  as  well  as  magical  herbs  that  can  be  used  for  spells  and  such.  everything's  labeled  so  they  don't  grab  the  wrong  thing  by  mistake,  which  can  lead  to  very  disastrous  stuff  for  their  other  process  involving  the  plants.

❀  -  the  bedroom:  just  like  the  rest  of  his  abode,  his  bedroom  is  just  as  azure  as  the  rest  of  his  place,  with  comfortable  bed  sheets  and  comforters  that  feel  as  light  and  billowy  as  feathers.  there  are  flowy  curtains  around  with  candles  lit  with  enticing  aromas  burning  from  the  wicks  and  things  of  incense  that  hold  the  fragrance  in  the  wisps  of  smoke,  usually  that  of  a  relaxing  scent  to  help  for  sleep.

❀  -  the  bathroom:  the  bathroom  holds  a  similar  layout  to  the  bedroom,  same  color  with  white  accents,  and  a  myriad  of  sweet  smelling  soaps  (  sabri's  very  big  on  scents  if  you  haven't  caught  on  by  now  ):  they  do  love  a  good  bubble  bath,  so  if  you  see  a  couple  of  bubbles  floating  from  their  bathroom  windows,  don't  get  worried,  just  enjoy  the  scents  coming  from  it  !

❀  -  apothecary:  sabri's  personal  potion  storage,  they  keep  much  of  their  perfumes  and  potions  in  their  own  collection,  marking  them  based  off  of  the  plants  used  to  help  construct  them  and  the  possible  effects.

PROMPT 001 INSPIRATIONS

doom, disaster, fighting the inevitable & the 'cruel' hand of fate. shrouded in mystery, the inspiration for dev is moros and all the aspects doom might take. stand in the precipice of chaos and what is left? a demigod who looks forward to see only death and decay, a god who foretells only demise...

(blood mage) hawke: badass aesthetics aside, hawke's fate is so intimately tied to his father from the start, on the run with his mother and siblings he witnesses destruction, abuse, death, makes a home for himself (spoilers) and watches it burn, possibly seen as cursed for being a mage... hawke is ultimately doomed by the narrative, something that fits dev very well.

cassandra of troy: in some myths, trojan princess or priestress, dedicated to apollo, fated by him to utter true prophecies but never to be believed. "in modern usage her name is employed as a rhetorical device to indicate a person whose accurate prophecies, generally of impending disaster, are not believed." dev's human father parallels this, always close to impeding doom, always warning, always writing about it... never heard. dev in turn, turns his eyes away, what good is warning if people won't listen? of course, things might be different when he starts actually seeing the future (but only the disasters)

stewy hosseini: rich, ironic, cynical. smart and playing the game, always trying to get one up over others. while dev isn't as cynical, cutthroat or involved with the 1% he is smart enough to game the system and live comfortably. he knows the cost of this, he knows the people he rubs elbows with would watch the world burn and burn themselves with it for more money, but he is not the kind to sacrifice himself for ideals and no results. (+ could include, Sloan Sabbith from the newsroom, brilliant economist and much more, much less shady)

cable, aka nathan summers: again, doomed by the narrative somewhat, sent to the future to survive, sent back in time to stop apocalypse... witness to terrible events past and future. often unable to help. time travel aside, dev has also seen enough tragedies he could do nothing about, and now that he might be able to... will he succed? personality wise both are very marked by the things that haunt them.

ollie ellingboe, son of freyr - welcome to my crib.

The son of Freyr is a lot of things. Some he'll happily admit to, other things, not so much. The Freyr Lodge seemed to expose the details of Ollie that he would rather keep secret. Different to his usual cold and snarky front, the lodge offers many comfortable places to lay down and relax. While simple in it's layout, every crook and cranny of the lodge is imbued with cozy vibes and warmth. Ollie's favorite room is the trophy room.

TYR'S LONGHOUSE: Home of Nicolai Johansson

Nicolai's cabin was modern in design, but with a quick look, one can easily notice the clear inspiration taken from traditional longhouses. Something Cole welcomed with open arms. It allowed him to feel in touch with his history, which he believe made for the perfect home as he continued to learn more about himself and his connection with Tyr. It was beautiful, he couldn't deny that. However, it was deceptively huge, with a second floor and even a basement. Though, it was not exactly a basement as one side of that particular floor was exposed on one side since a small portion of nearby hill was carved to build the house into it.

Still, couldn't help to think that perhaps they forgot that only one person was going to live there sinceUnless there meant for be more inhabitants. Or maybe it was just all for him.

The location where his lodging was built may have felt dark and brooding at first, with the sprawling land that covered his view, or the river that always made itself known with the hum of the stream. However, as Nicolai went on and began to call this place his home, he began to realize how peaceful it was. There was a lot he appreciated, but it was in his nature to add his own touch. He could acknowledge that he was his father's child, but he was not his father. So, he slowly began to add colored led fixtures, almost as an homage to the runes that would glow on his skin. And has even added a bar outside for anyone who would visit him to enjoy.

𝙷𝙾𝚄𝚂𝙴  𝙾𝙵  𝙼𝙰𝚃𝚂𝚄𝙼𝙾𝚃𝙾  !

living  area:  mai's  living  quarters  contend  of  their  favorite  red  couch,  which  is  wide,  cozy,  and  a  bit  unconventional.  perfect  for  just  flopping  on  or  whatever.  it  actually  looks  pretty  well  together,  which  shocks  most  people  regarding  mai's  interior  taste.  but  it's  probably  the  room  they  spend  the  least  amount  of  time  in,  so  it's  not  really  their  priority  (  if  it  was,  they  probably  would  have  gotten  rid  of  that  bookshelf  ).

kitchen:  a  room  that  definitely  showcases  more  of  mai's  personality,  the  room  itself  isn't  the  biggest,  as  mai's  not  too  accustomed  to  that  much  space  for  a  kitchen,  but  the  space  itself  is  well  decorated  with  a  red  and  bluish  scheme  and  polished  onyx  cabinets.  this  room  gets  ventured  in  a  bit,  as  mai  does  actually  know  how  to  cook,  or  just  sometimes  to  grab  one  of  their  various  snack  stashes.  the  refrigerator  is  definitely  their  favorite  appliance.

bathroom:  a  tie  for  the  bed  for  the  most  aesthetic  room  with  the  bedroom,  mai's  bathroom  sports  a  painted  mural  of  cherry  blossoms  along  the  walls:  very  pretty  to  look  at  while  they  soak  in  their  tub.  often  times  of  not,  the  lighting  of  their  bathroom  makes  it  appear  as  if  the  trees  are  alive,  and  if  mai  really  wants  to  feel  like  they're  the  bathing  beauty  of  sakura  petals,  they'll  let  a  few  breeze  along  as  they  bathe. 

bedroom:  the  best  way  to  describe  mai's  bedroom  is  cinematic:  it  looks  straight  out  of  a  cutscene  in  kill  bill,  and  they  wouldn't  have  it  any  other  way.  it's  a  bit  dark,  aside  from  the  neon  lighting  in  areas  and  right  in  the  back  wall  along  with  the  trees  that  grow  beside  their  bed.  unseen,  but  there  are  wind  chimes  hidden  to  enhance  the  atmosphere,  and  it  helps  them  fall  asleep. 

details  (  neon  signs  &  decor  ):  mai's  favorite  touch  to  their  abode  is  the  lavish  red  signs  that  are  all  along  the  lodging:  they  give  the  place  a  cyber-ish  aesthetic  that  screams  fun  to  mai.  also  along  the  empty  walls,  you'll  see  a  barrage  of  umbrella  and  open  giant  paper  fans  along  them  as  space  filler.

general  areas:  stepping  into  his  lodge  is  like  stepping  foot  into  a  halloween  store.  he  has  a  couple  of  things  that  would  be  considered  “spooky”.  like  a  lamp  that  looks  like  it  has  bats  instead,  black  cat  figurines,  and  decks  lying  around.  if  you  look  closely,  you'll  even  see  some  bones  and  some  candles  that  look  like  they're  dripping  blood.

bathroom:  a  minimal  place.  aside  from  the  round  mirror  and  the  large  organizer  next  to  it,  it's  pretty  simple.  you'll  find  a  tub,  toilet,  and  another  basket  full  of  toiletrees.  what  else  does  someone  need  in  a  room  like  this?  he  doesn't  spend  too  much  time  there,  so  he  doesn't  feel  the  need  to  change  it  from  when  he  first  moved  in.

bedroom:  the  light  here  isn't  a  lot,  sometimes  he  doesn't  even  turn  it  on,  but  it's  also  pretty  basic.  aside  from  the  furniture  and  large  bed  in  the  center  of  the  room  up  against  the  wall,  there's  not  much.  the  bedding  is  the  smoothest  silk/satin  combo  that  you  will  ever  find  though.  sleeping  on  it  is  almost  like  sleeping  on  a  never  ending  slide.

extra  details:  aside  from  the  spooky  things,  some  of  them  are  actually  practical.  he  has  a  couple  of  “webs”  up  in  between  the  rooms  that  hold  a  couple  of  items.  when  he  first  enters,  he  places  his  wallet  and  keys  on  one  of  them.  he  also  has  a  small  room  dedicated  to  ballet  and  a  library  with  walls  so  high  not  even  ladders  can  reach.  he  loves  mirrors  too,  including  the  ones  that  have  3  sides.

Conquer Prompt #2

Thanks to Forest, a PR master, Hugo was burdened with a new social media profile. While others have gone fully public and are active near daily, growing in followers, Hugo still dedicates most of his time to reality. The occasional black and white photo will be posted, typically still life or scenery, exhibiting his interest in photography. At least he got to pick the handle @/clapback , a play on thunderclap, which he's quite proud of.

general areas: lodges normally have a lot of window spaces, so babu tries to absorb as much light as possible. he has dark furniture (either black or natural wood) and black out curtains. on the flip side, since he's always cold, he also has fire places put throughout and a lot of chandeliers or candles around. there's a grand library too.

bathroom: dark gray walls and tub, almost looks like a tranquil spa when you first walk into it. he has plants hanging that when the moisture from the hot water reaches it, pleasant scents are released out to the air. there's only one mirror in the whole bathroom, a large circular one above the sink. that's the only time he has to see himself.

bedroom: another place that seems to be engulfed in darkness for the most part. the bed is large and right in the center against the wall on the north side. there's plenty of pillows and some of them are fluffy. the sheets are gray and they're also quite comfortable. there's a nice painting hanging above his bed and everything ties together nicely.

extra touches: aside from all of the lighting and warmth around the lodge, there's also a couple of antiques. from different cultures, with different histories. some of them are his own, some of them are from the island. things he's bought there. outside, there's a dog fountain, although it's open to all animals. ironically, he tried shaping it like a tombstone.

mateo ruiz, son of tlahzōlteōtl – bienvenidos a mi crib!

The son of tlahzōlteōtl is one that likes the simple things in life. just the basics, such as a fire pit, a large kitchen with a appliances, and maybe even a water fountain or two. Nothing too gaudy or out of touch. Before his family estate had fallen apart, there would always be commissioned artwork hanging on the walls from independent artists. One in particular that Mateo had remembered was someone by the name of Diego RIvera.
