Descripción: 「Ciertamente, aun ahora no puedo dar el paso.」
0:14

3×1 AU where they're from 2 different time periods.
Hayate is a farmer in the, say, either Heian period or Edo period. Mima is a salaryman in the modern-day - either from the late 2010s to early 2020s (2017-2022).
It's a special day for one Ichikura Hayate. For today, he'll finally get to see and receive the family heirloom for the first time. Hayate sits in anticipation. He can't wait to see the item that's worth a lot of treasures.
Soon, his uncle returns home, carrying a large box wrapped in a luxurious fabric. He lifted the fabric to reveal an ornate looking cabinet.
Hayate is a bit slumped. He expected something more fancy, like a piece of jewelry. But still, he can't deny the excellent craftsmanship of the cabinet.
Oh well, at least he has more room to put items on.
In a moment of carelessness, Hayate absent-mindedly put his favorite book inside the cabinet.
And if he pays close attention, then he would've noticed the cabinet closes by itself & there's a brief flash of light shone through the keyhole.
Mima Takayuki just got back home from work when he remembered that he needed to finish some chores.
So he gets up, puts his bag away, & starts cleaning his apartment.
He puts his phone inside an ornate looking cabinet so he won't be distracted.
However, little does he know that the cabinet is no ordinary object. The moment he takes his eyes off, the cabinet closes itself & a small glimmer of light flashes from the keyhole.
Hayate is certain that he put his book inside the cabinet. So why, instead of his book, there's a strange looking object inside?
The object is rectangular, with rounded corners. It appears to be made of metal, except for one side of the rectangle that looks reflective, almost like a mirror. Hayate also notices a few slim, smaller shapes on both long sides of the object & some odd-shaped holes on the object's short sides.
Out of curiosity, Hayate presses one of the smaller shapes. And the reflective part of the object glows.
Hayate dropped the object in shock. He's stunned by what just happened.
Cautious, he picks up the object again. He presses his hand on the glowing surface, preparing for the worst.
But nothing happened.
So he looks at the glowing mirror (?) & notices a picture of a man, a woman, & a little girl. Perhaps one of these people is the owner of this object?
Before he can find out more about this strange object further, he hears his uncle calling for him.
Guess Hayate will have to put his search on hold.
Takayuki can't find his phone.
He swore he left it inside the cabinet, but when he opened it, his phone was nowhere to be found.
Instead, there's a book inside.
And it's not just any book. It's one of the oldest books in history. But the most puzzling thing for Takayuki is the book's pristine condition. No yellowed pages, no smudged, blurred writings.
But for now, he has more pressing matters: find his phone. So he uses his tablet to search for the phone's location. He logged in using his business accounts to message his personal accounts.
Hayate starts to have an idea how the object works when suddenly the "mirror" glows again & this time there's a writing on it. Curious, he taps his finger on it & the "mirror" shows several writings.
"I'd like to have my phone back, please."
"Please return my phone."
"Why aren't you answering my calls?"
"Please give me back my phone. Otherwise, I'll have no choice but to report you to the authorities for theft."
Hayate feels slightly intimidated. And as much as he wants to return this...phone (?) to whoever owns it, he has no way of finding out the owner's location.
But apparently, he doesn't have to worry about that as whoever messages him initiates a meeting at a park.
So he agreed.
It's been hours since whoever has Takayuki's phone promised to meet, but there's no sign of anyone out there.
So he takes out his tablet, messages them again.
The reply comes in seconds.
"I a m at th e p ark"
Takayuki replies, asking their specific whereabouts, their appearance & what are they wearing.
"I m n ea r t he gi n ko tre e"
"I ha ve a sho rt b row n hai r"
"Im we ar ing a blu e ha o ri"
Takayuki tries to search for anyone with the matching description, but he has no luck.
So he takes a photo of himself & sends it to the chat.
But the reply is unexpected.
"Wh a t ki nd of ga r me nt i s th at"
"An d w ha t is the th i ng on y our e ye s"
Takayuki explains its a sweater & a glasses, respectively.
More conversations, questions & answers later, Takayuki eventually find out whoever this person is, they're from an era where Takayuki hadn't been born yet.
Hayate can't stop looking at the picture of the man.
A small sound comes from the phone, showing Hayate a picture of a book. His missing book.
"By any chance, is this yours?"
Hayate immediately replies.
"Y es"
Another small sound.
"What's your name?"
Hayate replies.
"I chi k ur a h ay at e"
Another small sound again.
"I'm Mima Takayuki. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Hayate-kun."
And that's how the friendship of 2 young men separated by time & space begins to blossom.
Oooh very interesting and unique!! I also just read similar 3x1 fic with the Tom-Riddle-diary concept a few minutes ago.
This concept, I wish there were more, these two need to meet in person for sure, dont you think? how would that happen? Maybe the cabinet or Mima's smartphone are gonna be some kind of portkey that transfer them back and forth? Imagine farmer Hayate of Edo period suddenly goes into the future, modern day Tokyo, getting all flustered and overwhelmed by the buzzing and new tech lol. Or vice versa, Mima goes to the past.
Or maybe they'll stay corresponding thru the book and gadget, imagine Hayate accidentally snapped a selfie of him and it gets sent to Mima's tablet and that's how the older guy knows how Hayate looks like, and then Mima starts doing the same, taking pictures of things and shows it to Hayate who is always amazed by the simplest little thing that doesn't exist yet in his era and asking this and that... Or Mima teaches him more function of the smartphone etc etc. Some comedy and their typical clumsiness ensue 😂

quickfire thoughts on fall 2023 now that everything i'm watching has had at least three eps out
EXCELLENT
sousou no frieren: still very easily anime of the season, beautiful in visuals and in story. a quiet, subtle look at loss and grief, and life continuing beyond that. the structure is working perfectly imo, it never feels like there are too many or not enough flashbacks, i feel connected at all times to both the present day party and the himmel-era party
migi to dali: still doing an exceptional job of balancing creepy and funny, i said before that the only thing i can think of with a remotely similar vibe is the movie hot fuzz and while i think there's a different flavor of comedy here, i still stand by that (and that's a compliment bc hot fuzz is an excellent movie)
kamonohashi ron no kindan suiri: although i wouldn't say this is mind-blowingly outstanding in any single way, it's very well-done in just about every conceivable way and comes together as an extremely solid series
BORDERLINE EXCELLENT
overtake: after four episodes i'm so tempted to put it with the 'excellent' shows but have to admit it's just not objectively on that level, it is subjectively one of my current favorites of the season though. silly at times, fairly simple story, but really effectively done so far
ADORABLE
s rank musume: feel like this one is largely going to slip through the cracks because it looks like your typical fantasy-action/adventure series, but doesn't stand out in that genre. the cute/soothing family moments are what stand out to me, but understandably that's not what most viewers of the genre are looking for. remains to be seen if a more action-y plot will build up, have doubts about how effective that will be
yuzuki-san chi no yon kyoudai: VERY CUTE with some very real moments and struggles, the cr subs debacle in the first ep however did it no favors
atarashii joushi wa dotennen: VERY CUTE i almost wish they'd cast literally anyone except umechan for shirosaki bc with him the similarities to cool doji danshi are just too much lmao however umechan is in fact perfect for this character so why not let him play it twice i guess
hoshikuzu telepath: moe yuri that isn't afraid to say rocket science is for autistic lesbians, what could be better?
wataoshi: YURI OF THE SEASON SORRY HOSHIKUZU TELEPATH HERE'S SOMETHING THAT COULD BE BETTER i actually would put these two on a similar tier but wataoshi gets the edge for me because rae is so unapologetically, exuberantly gay and that is just so nice to see
SEQUELS
houkago shounen hanako-kun: tragically only four half-length episodes but it's nice to see these kids again, ogata megumi's hanako voice just hits in a way the jjk yuuta voice doesn't, for me, so very glad to hear it again
arknights s2: i'm liking the art even more than i did in s1? not sure if it's actually changed/improved, and imo s1 was already good, but anyway just really enjoying seeing all the faves moving and speaking!
spy x family s2: still cute of course what more can i say
b-project s3: MAN I'M TORN i don't dislike this season (we are getting so many kitakore shots) but i am so stressed out for tsubasa and i just want to see her catch a break! i'm sure the season will end in an uplifting way, but all the stress she's under right now makes me want to punch things
dead mount death play s2: it was good and is somehow still getting better, s2e3 which just came out is one of the best yet imo
GOOD FOR THE ACTION BUT NOT TERRIBLY MUCH ELSE
undead unluck: i kind of... don't like anyone here lmao but the over-the-top, high-octane action is not badly animated, it's just not gripping me on any level beyond that. it does however have the op of the season
ragna crimson: again it's failing to get me really invested in the story/characters but the action is not bad i guess, cast for this one is absurdly stacked so i'm not going anywhere
shangri-la frontier: this one's doing a GREAT job with its pacing and action imo, it's introducing the game mechanics in a way that doesn't feel too fast or too slow. only issue is there really... doesn't seem to be any stakes? like at all? which is not a problem for me personally, it just feels a bit like we're waiting for another shoe to drop
WATCHABLE BUT...
bullbuster: i'm kind of vibing with this after three episodes but i really can't imagine it finding an audience, it's not mech enough to really appeal to mech fans and it's not... typical office drama enough to appeal to typical office fans. it's a strange little combo that just happens to work for me, personally
NOT GOOD BUT I LOVE IT
kawagoe boys sing: this is a ridiculous series, i would say not as wild as number24 but kind of getting there. like number24 but more vanilla, less homoerotic. i loved number24 and I'M LOVING THIS TOO there are some genuinely interesting characters already and though i still currently want to punt kick that teacher into the sun i remain cautiously optimistic that he'll see some character development. at some point. maybe
NOT GOOD. JUST NOT GOOD. SORRY.
bokura no ameiro protocol: really feels like some late-2000s/early-2010s male wish fulfillment dramedy. lots of weird and unnecessary het nonsense going on. honestly would consider dropping if it were 24 episodes but since it's only 12 i guess i'll stick it out. for kimuryo. who is unfortunately playing such a rancid character

Media Log October 202
Anime
I was pretty productive (?) on the anime-watching side of things this month, due to not reading as much. I tried a lot, not all of it stuck but it is what it is.
Seasonals
Cool Doji Danshi - Cute. Love the funky OP and ED. Pretty funny. Looks great. Idk what else to tell you it’s Cool Doji Danshi, the episodes are 10 minutes long just watch it.
Bocchi The Rock - A lot of anime can claim to have an amazing looking first episode and fall off afterwards. But Bocchi the Rock may well have one of the most outstanding second episodes of any anime I’ve seen, and I think that says a lot. The entire team is just going sicko mode cramming every single layout with life and details and creative ideas, every scene is brimming with motion in such minute detail that it made me a bit dizzy. For this show on top of looking that stratospherically good to also have cute character designs and actually hilarious gags at the quick pace it manages to sustain is just unbelievable to me. Truly an epoch defining Kirara adaptation for the 2020s, can’t wait to see where this goes. Ep 1 thoughts here.
Digimon Ghost Game - I wrote a little about the production and themes here. Overall, I am really liking this show around 30 episodes in. There are some duds but most episodes are appropriately horrifying and just fun to watch. The OP is a banger, and lately there’s a streak of episodes with sakuga like, consistently, which is a bit puzzling to me how that’s possible but I’m not complaining.
Non Seasonals
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 - Watched with a friend, did not like this at all. Complete lack of an emotional core coupled with an aesthetic I’m just completely bored of (this is now the “prestige anime adaptation” look and I don’t need to see any more of it). Doesn’t help that the music was terrible and that honestly, it didn’t look much better than the TV anime it was based on.
Kira Kira Precure - Some thoughts here. Lost me in the middle bits due to the boring villains, darker tone and focus on the "plot" instead of humor and interesting scenarios with the characters. Still, this series has a lot going for it, and I loved the first chunk introducing all the characters, the Pikario arc is pretty good and his return is great, the last Yukari episode, the end, just a lot of great episodes throughout. And of course, great music, wonderful old school storybook aesthetic, amazing character designs. Definitely not a perfect series but when it was good it was really good.
Anohana - Coming back to this as an adult was at first, pretty disappointing, but I still cried at the last episode. It still works. What's great about this show hasn't changed even coming back to it 10 years later. The animation is incredible, the warm colors and lighting and calming backgrounds are as immersive and nostalgic. The music is great, with the OP perfectly conveying what the show is going for even better than the show itself, and a heartfelt and catchy ED that is deserving of its classic status. There's plenty of great directing. The character designs are pretty great, and for someone like me all these years later to remember characters' names is impressive (I just remembered Jinta and Menma though). And of course, the catharsis of the last episode, though built up to with some pretty amateurish drama, still pretty much works on the strength of the voice acting and music alone.
SSSS.Dynazenon - Some thoughts here. Gridman may have been a disappointment but Dynazenon absolutely was not. Clever, unorthodox, constantly interesting and surprising. One of the most forward-thinking anime I've seen in a while in the ways it pushes forward the medium by playing with its constraints. Incredible animation, storyboarding, character designs, pretty good music, amazing dialogue and voice acting, interesting themes, brilliant overall. If Gridman felt the need to over-explain and over-compensate due to its self consciousness with respect to its place in the lineage of mecha (Eva, Gurren Lagann), Dyna instead is interested in doing its own thing and moving forward with the unique style developed in the prequel and adapting it to a completely new kind of story.
Bee and Puppycat - I don’t know why I waited so long to watch this. Adorable, funny, love the pastel color palette and lofi hiphop beats soundtrack, love the characters and character designs, love the irreverent tone and this brand of whimsical creativity. Pure fucking cotton candy
Tsuredure Children - What a cute little show, really had a good time with this one. I really like most of the cute romantic moments, but I think my favorite bits were the over the top gags, especially in the middle part of the show. I kind of think it was too short, but on the other hand by the end some storylines were dragging a bit, really I just think some priorities could have been shifted around and the ending could have been a bit more concrete. Overall, a fun and light watch.
Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi - Way too many thoughts here. Cute, easy to watch, fun characters, and I don’t like to use this word because it’s overused but yeah, wholesome is what this is.
Yesterday o Utatte - All my thoughts here. Adult romance that is unconventional especially for anime, doesn’t always hit but captures certain “realistic” aspects of human relationships in an interesting way.
Aoi Hana - Thoughts here. I’d like to write more about this show but I just keep forgetting to think while just being absorbed in the sheer bliss of its atmosphere and music, it’s just a very sweet and warm experience that I treasured quite a bit.
Manga
Seiyuu Ka - Read 1 volume so far. I love the over the top gags in this, leading hopefully to the kind of overdramatic shoujo story I really like, after Penguin Brothers completely fried my dopamine receptors this month.
Mix - I love Adachi art, it’s very clean and elegant. I don’t know where the story is going, but it sure is slow since this is 19 volumes long. I’ll probably read more of it at some point, but I might instead watch the anime which is easily pirate-able to know if I want to follow a story that long. But there are also a number of long, completed Adachi stories in both formats that I know people will vouch for so, I don’t know.
Penguin Brothers - I don’t even know what to say about this, I binged this so fucking fast. Just a roller coaster of emotions, comedy, the most classic of classic 2000s shoujo character designs. This manga went places I never would have expected and had me on the edge of my seat throughout. Probably will be able to be more coherent about this at some point, but for now I’ll just say this manga has a very special place in my heart. The protagonist earned a spot in one of my favorite animanga characters of all time too, pretty easily.
Games
Digital Monsters D Project - Fulfilled a childhood dream by finally playing an untranslated Digimon monster raising game on the Wonderswan. Thoughts here.
Hazelnut Hex - pastel pixel pop punk cartoon network scott pilgrim bullet hell great game would play again
Muse Dash - anime lookin rhythm game with an amazing color palette. Thoughts here
Celeste - perfect platformer but probably too hard for me. Don’t want to be alone with my thoughts long enough to beat the B sides, so tentatively shelved at 3B. Thoughts here.
Cat Quest - I barely wrote about this game but here
Dark Souls - I don’t really like it
Dropped:
Kamen Rider Geats - Watched one ep which was nonstop action. It was pretty cool but also very disorienting. I think I’d rather start with a more laid back Kamen Rider.
DIY - Looked nice, quirky OST is nice, but characters were frankly too weak to uphold any humor. What is left is healing vibe, but…dropped after a repeated animal abuse gag which obviously killed that vibe. Thoughts on episode 1 here.
Shadowverse Flame - I’ll probably come back to this later, I dropped this when the dueling started cause I just could not understand how the rules worked (lol that’s what I get for turning the subtitles off). Love the character designs, music and OP are pretty cool. The setting is pretty much just Yugioh and that’s what I like about it. I guess I like the setup too. Bank animations are super cool also.
Aikatsu - I’ll probably come back to this one later, too. Love the weird futuristic setting. The character designs are extremely cute and just the general vibe of the show is relaxing and fun. A low stakes and uplifting, consistent looking kids anime is something I could always usein my life, I think. That said it’s a billion episodes long and I just wasn’t really in the mood for that quite yet. Soon.
Horimiya - Made it 8 episodes of this. Animation is great, though that kind of clashes with what an understated and conventional story this is. I guess the twist is that it moves faster then you'd think? I guess? It's not too outstanding other than that, and I couldn't get attached to the characters unfortunately, dialogue is kind of boring since it doesn't go all the way with humor or drama, jumping between them. Feels like watching every other episode of a 26 episode anime. OP is good. I like the colored hair character designs too, plus the chill synthy electronic OST and a few other aspects of the aesthetic. But overall I feel like this would work better in manga format so I will be checking that out.
Kokoro Connect - Made it 1 episode in. Actually didn’t really dislike this show or anything, and I can see it going interesting places. I wasn’t too attached too the characters or premise, but again I would give it more of a shot. But it’s just that the characters all talk really fast, which you wouldn’t necessarily notice if you watch with subtitles, but I definitely did without lmao.
Akebi's Sailor Uniform - I know it's pretty tired to say this at this point but yeah I just could not get over the fetish stuff in this one, despite the honestly breathtaking animation and great OST. But, yeah, I don't know what it is. I can stomach a lot of stuff I like to think, but the toenail clipper sniffing scene was just too much for me. I just can't do it.
Love Live School Idol Project - 1 episode. I generally like to find the value in everything I watch but this is probably actually the worst first episode of any anime I’ve ever seen, I am only now realizing. The characters are paper thin which I expect of an idol series, but the worst part is they are barely distinguishable, with some of the blandest template character designs I have ever seen. The music is extremely forgettable too. The aesthetic experience of this show is everything that is wrong with 2010s anime, there’s this horrible plasticky shiny look to everything with these blown out desaturated colors, I mean it just looks terrible. I don’t know what people would like about this, but I can sort of imagine maybe there just wasn’t that much idol stuff back then? But no, that’s not true. I am begging you to instead watch Idolmaster, a show that actually looks amazing. Why would you watch this??
Bandori - I watched 1 or 2 episodes. I didn’t dislike it, it was cute and fun to watch. The music didn’t really hook me, but it definitely caught my ear more than typical idol music would. I probably will watch this later.
Next month the plan is to read lots of manga and then maybe start some new series!

hi hii again !!!!! (*・ω・)ノ i'm glad to hear you're feeling better and finally done with placements !!!! :D omg that happened to me actually, right when i got over my cold last week i came down with a fever a day later and i was sick all over again with something else. (*ノωノ) i'm good now though!!! magenta is such a pretty color!! soo for this week, what are some things you're enjoying about the animes you're currently watching now?? (=^ ◡ ^=) ~ your animanga secret santa 🎅
Hey there santa! The ones I'm watching are those currently in my description, csm, sxf, and mp100, but there's also a few others I am not giffing weekly, like urusei yatsura and cool doji danshi!
Csm: it was hype as hell, I actually meant to read it but then Uni work hit me like a truck and put it on hold indefinitely. It's funny, its characters are awesome and their dynamics are chef's kiss. It's got a similar worldbuilding vibe to dorohedoro, only the latter has...significantly less death and depression. Give it a read/watch if you'd like!
Sxf: Bond. Borf sweep. It's also hilarious
Mp100: OH BOY I JUST WATCHED THE FINAL EPISODE, I'M NOT OKAY. I had actually read the manga beforehand so I knew what would happen but that didn't stop me from almost crying. When 99 started playing, UGH, poetic cinema.
Cool doji danshi: sometimes, you just want a show about cute guys doing cute things. It has free! vibes, its artstyle is so Comfy
Urusei yatsura: it's also funny. A lot. Its animation style scratches the brain just right and the voice cast is stellar. And the op SLAPS
I hope I didn't send this off too late, I wouldn't want to impede you in making my gift. Have yourself happy holidays and I can'f wait to see what you have in store for me!

It's been ages (or it seems so) when they published that MAPPA will make this anime. So quite curious to see this finally, and PV looked really good and fight scenes very MAPPA style. For me quite new cast so excited to hear their work and of course see Pochita.
