Coffee and crushes
☕︎ Sprout and Cosmo find themselves playing match maker for a moment as Shelly and Vee are so stupidly in love it hurts and they just have to do something about it ☕︎
♨︎ another caretaker Shanon au prequel! Caretaker Shanon au is mine~ ♨︎
⊹ @soupiestzilla look it's more alive Cosmo, dude he's not dead again! ⊹
────── « ⋅ʚ♡ɞ⋅ » ──────
Cosmo blew a raspberry as he sat down at the cafe counter, being a bit bummed that he couldn't work in the diner with his boyfriend today, but he was sure it could be worse. A lot worse... Shelly soon came over to get her morning coffee and she looked like she hadn't slept in weeks.
"Good morning Shelly, how can I help you this morning?" He cheerfully asked her regardless of her poor state, and she just stared at him for a good minute, blinked, then yawned.
"Vee..." she mumbled tiredly, getting a soft chuckle from the swiss roll, who knew exactly why she said that. The two had been crushing on each other obviously for years, everyone knew they'd eventually get together, but the question was when.
"I'm sorry, she can't work at the cafe Shells, she can't get wet." Cosmo softly reminded her, making her stare back at him before she realized her mistake and covered her mouth, blushing darkly as she did so.
"Oh my god, I'm sorry, I've been thinking about her so much haha- uh, just a caramel macchiato is fine, thank you Cosmo." She replied, waving it off like it was no big deal. Cosmo just nodded, writing down her order before he passed it to the barista behind him before he looked back at the barely awake fossil.
"You know, Sprout said she's always at the diner in the morning, she likes talking to Glisten as he eats breakfast. Maybe you can catch her before she leaves, I'm sure she'd love to see you." Cosmo suggested, winking at her afterwards. Shelly just looked like she died inside, hugging herself as she messed with the sleeves of her dress, her face tomato red.
"Hahahaaaaa great one Cosmo, surely she'd love to see anyone but me, I'm just, awkward old Shelly and she's like, the COOLEST toon ever!" She replied nervously, getting a sigh and a shrug from Cosmo as he gently took her coffee order from the barista, then a straw for her, then he handed the two to the red faced fossil.
"You never know, she could think you're cool too, you should give talking to her a try." He softly reassured, waving a little at her as she skittered off like a rat escaping a hungry cat, though he knew exactly where she was going. He grabbed the phone on the counter and called the diner.
Sprout was working the counter at the diner, and he had quite an interesting situation on his hands. Vee was sitting on her usual barstool, though she was really deep in thought, barely even paying attention to anyone who was trying to talk to her. This was extremely unlike her, usually Vee was socializing the hell out of everyone and teasing them, but right now it was just a blank stare at the counter as she thought. Sprout looked at the phone when it rang though, then sighed, picking it up.
"Diner staff, what's going on now?" He asked, though he couldn't help but smile when he heard Cosmo's lil chaos giggle on the other end.
"Sprout, we have a code pink~" Cosmo excitedly squealed, which made Sprout smile even more.
"Oh my god you didn't just send Shelly over, did you-"
"Oh I diiiiiid, oh she was sooo crushing on her too, you HAVE to tell me what happens at lunch!" Cosmo replied excitedly, making Sprout burst into a fit of giggles.
"You know Vee, I think Shelly's coming over here, what do you think she'd like for breakfast?" He asked casually, making her look up at him.
"You know I will~ Now go back to work silly." Sprout teased, and after very soft whispered "I love yous" were said, they hung up on each other. Sprout watched over Vee again, watching as she traced the markings in the wood in thought, then he cleared his throat.
"Chocolate chip waffles, strawberry syrup, whipped cream on top." Vee stated, then she looked back down and soon was lost in thought again. Sprout looked quite impressed, though he shouldn't be very surprised, she knew everyone's orders by heart since she always sat there. But what really surprised him was that smile she had for a second- that huge grin of "my favorite person is coming!!" that she usually only smiled with her handler, the way her eyes lit up just for a second, oh she's definitely in love and burying it. Sprout just grinned at that. Oh Cosmo's so gonna love hearing about this one later.
"You know Vee, you don't have to-"
"Shut up." She quickly cut him off, now looking at him. "I know that look, it's not working."
"Mhm... Look behind you." Sprout simply commented, and she did, turning around to find Shelly. Shelly just stared at her, and Vee stared back, both having a lot to want to say but unable to. They were scared, yet very excited, if their wagging tails had anything to say about it.
"Good morning b- uh... P-... Shelly." Vee quietly said, having to cut herself off before she called her anything cutesy, her hand now over her mouth a little as her screen gained a bright green hue to it. Shelly glanced away, blushing herself.
"Good morning, Vee. Uhm... What did you almost call me though?" Shelly asked curiously, though soon was giggling as Vee just turned away, obviously embarrassed to hell and back now.
"Beautiful and pretty-" Vee blurted out, figuring there was no escaping now.
"Oh, t-thank you, Vee. You're... Really pretty too..." Shelly softly replied, the two of them now awkward blushing disasters, Shelly now sitting on the barstool beside Vee while they both avoided each other's gaze. Sprout pretended he didn't care, but he was so internally rooting for them, he knew they'd confess sometime.
"So... What kind of fossils did you find yesterday?" Vee asked after a moment, making Shelly gasp as she leaned close.
"I found thee coolest seashells yesterday, from ancient sea life! And we have a full ammonite fossil now! And they're planning on renovating my museum so I have a WHOLE SKELETON IN IT!!! And... You have gorgeous eyes." Shelly rambled before she realized she was even staring at the other, and Vee just nodded, staring back at her, head empty... Only lesbianism.
"Mhm... You're like, a really cool ammonite, you know. Like... A perfect fossil... Have you ever been on display before?" Vee asked, which made Shelly give her a very confused yet hardcore in love look.
"Why would they put me on a display, silly?!"
"The world should admire you, not just me." Vee stated, so oblivious to how obvious her flirting was it hurt. Glisten had came by to check on her and was now staring at them in just as much shock as Sprout was, the two having matching "oh this is JUICY" looks on their faces. The two didn't seem to care, as Shelly was way too embarrassed to let herself think about how public this was while Vee... She's lost in Vee Land. She's a goner. She's very lesbian right now.
"Vee- I- You what?!" Shelly asked when she finally got words in her mind again, not just incoherent gay screaming. Vee just blinked, then put her hand on Shelly's cheek, smiling.
"I like admiring you, you have the prettiest face. Your freckles fit you so well, and the little dirt spots... You're magical." Vee whispered, leaning towards her as if they weren't already extremely close. Shelly was starting to shiver, but she just put her hand on Vee's arm and looked away, not hating this but... It definitely was a bit much. She was never expecting to witness the one toon she really liked being a lovesick fool, yet here she was, inches away from her face, telling her how beautiful she was. It felt... Great.
"Vee... There's people-"
"Ignore them... You're mine right now. Only mine." Vee purred, giving Shelly a quick kiss afterwards. The crowd now watching gasped dramatically, Glisten now striking a cheering pose. They were a sight to be seen... And the toons all watching were thriving seeing two of the mains being so happy together. Even if Shelly was more red than anything now.
"Vee... I love you... So much... But this... This is a lot-"
"I love you too... But I'll move away, I'm sorry." Vee whispered, though before she could move, Shelly pulled her into a tight hug and kissed her, and Vee just kissed right back, clinging to her fossil tight, like she was desperately waiting for this moment her entire life.
Because she was.
The crowd that now included the two's handlers cheered, Veronica taking a photo.
They were so stupid, but they were happily in love, and that's what mattered. For now anyways...
Hours later, Sprout and Cosmo were at the diner together, eating lunch.
"And when Shelly came over man, she went from not caring about anyone to flirting with her immediately. It was so beautiful, she opened right up for her and she was such a flirt." Sprout told his partner, getting a snort and a bunch of giggles from the other.
"Oh please tell me they kissed."
"Twice. They kissed twice. Oh you should've seen the way they held each other and everything, they have been holding back for so long, it was amazing." Sprout explained, pulling his little chubby swissroll closer, who was sat on his lap for cuddle time.
"Duuuude how did you manage to do that?" Cosmo asked excitedly, soon munching on his pizza afterwards, ignoring when Sprout wiped sauce off his cheek with a look of slight disgust on the berry's face.
"Vee simply got lost in lesbians, once I pointed out that Shelly was right there, she was a goner. She was the one flirting most of the time, and probably the one that's going to kill us for sending Shelly over when she was vulnerable." Sprout explained, the two soon laughing at the idea of Vee beating them up for embarrassing her like that.
"Honestly though, that sounds so adorable, I gotta ask Sam if anyone got pictures." Cosmo stated, and Sprout nodded.
"We win today, Veronica got pictures." Sprout informed him, making Cosmo smile and do a little cheer.
"We win! We finally got them to talk about their feelings and we get pictures! Woo!" He cheered, making Sprout laugh a little as he patted Cosmo's head. They definitely did win, being able to see their friends finally be happy, but they also won by being together themselves. Vee was absolutely going to beat them up if she found out they were talking about it though lmao

top 16 extinct animals. go
Tyrannosaurus Rex (I'm basic, they're badass, I'm planning on getting a tattoo of a Rex skeleton at some point)
Baryonyx (fossils found in the UK which meant a lot to younger me)
Woolly Mammoth (I still have a stuffed mammoth toy from my childhood and it's incredibly cute)
Deinosuchus (IDK how inaccurate the Prehistoric Park episode was, those things were the COOL AS FUCK)
Therizinosaurus (imagine having the largest claws in the fossil record and then eating leaves. immaculate trolling)
Titanoboa (I like snakes and this was a big fuckin snake so I like this on principle)
Anomolacaris (I can't believe it's only been 500 MYA, #neverforget)
Triceratops (HOW COULD YOU CALL THEM HORRID, THEY'RE GORGEOUS)
Diplodocus (One of my sister's first words was 'diplodocus' because she was born during the part of my life when I lived and breathed dinosaurs)
Utahraptor (the actual big dangerous raptors, not those frauds the Jurassic Park films call 'velociraptors')
Arthropleura (I don't know how to explain it but they just seem so chill, I'd love to hang out with one?)
Iguanodon (Wish the reasoning was deeper here but I really just like their thumb spikes)
Crassigyrinus (I love my horrible bitey little swamp creature that defies classification!!)
Troodon (maybe it's a low bar but this thing was still the smartest dinosaur (as far as we know) and that's baller)
Eryops (simultaneously a top dog and an underdog in its environment, it strikes me as a creature simple and yet effective) and finally... - -
Stegosaurus (for the fucking THAGOMIZERSSSS)

COOLEST SHIT EVER, CAN'T GET OVER THE FACT THAT WE ACTUALLY CALL THEM THAGOMIZERS, THANK YOU GARY LARSON
#disclaimer: this list is probably subject to change if I'm asked again in the future (I left out some good ones like Megalodon and Livyitan#and Gastornis and Allosaurus and Archyopteryx and Ornithocheirus and Smilodon and Ankylosaurus :(((()#not a pic#someone asked me a thing!#That time Reaction Images Guy tempted fate

FOSSIL FRIDAY: CERATOSAURUS
Ceratosaurus, the "horned lizard" is probably one of the coolest dinosaurs discovered. It was described by Othniel Charles Marsh based on a nearly complete specimen from Garden Park, Colorado.
It is one of four large theropods in the Morrison Formation of the U.S. and the Lourina Formation of Portugal. There is currently only one accepted species: Ceratosaurus nasicornis.
Allosaurus, Torvosaurus and Ceratosaurus at the BYU Museum of Paleontology.
Ceratosaurus is a medium-sized theropod. The type specimen is about 17 ft (5.3 m) long but other specimens indicate it could get more than 20 ft long. It is characterized by deep jaws that supported proportionally long, blade-like teeth, a prominent, ridge-like nasal crest, and a pair of crests over the eyes making it appear very dragon-like.
It had fairly short arms especially compared to its contemporary rivals. Each hand had four fingers with the three larger ones sporting a claw.
It also had a row of osteoderms that ran down it's neck, back and tail.
It is thought that Ceratosaurus was a solitary hunter. None have ever been found in close proximity to another. In a paper written by Donald M. Henderson in 1998, he stated that Ceratosaurus' taller skull indicated a resistance to bending. Its long, broad teeth would present increased frictional resistance to penetration due to increased surface area.
It had powerful adductor muscles that would increase the overall stresses on the entire skull. Having a deeper skull would relieve that by increasing the flexural rigidity and thus the strength. Think pit bull or hyena.
Ceratosaurus is only represented by a handful of specimens, far more common than Torvosaurus but still much less common than Allosaurus. There are two ideas floating around about why this is. One, there simply weren't as many of them. Two, it preferred a habitat that just didn't preserve fossils as well. Whatever the case may be, I hope that we can help answer some of these questions with the potential specimen we found at the Evil Tree Bonebed.
Possible Ceratosaur ischium (and it's a whopper for size).
Want to help recover the Ceratosaurus? Then come join us this summer at Colorado Northwestern Community College! Check out the link for more info. Hope to see you there!

Top coolest animals that i REALLY like (reminder i'm not a specialist/biologist or anything, i'm just super into researching animals! so if you have anything to add or anything to correct feel free to do so! i love learning :D)

Those fellas are super cool looking! they are called the vampire deers! those are a group of species that aren't necessaraly true deers, that name is given for deer lookin mammals! Thats why the Mouse-Deer (That isnt a true deer) is in the Vampire deer group because of their lil fangs

But its mainly associated with musk deers (that if im not mistaken aren't true deers) or the barking Deer! (That do have antlers unlike most vampire deers that only have their fangs >:D) that are in fact true deers.

Wolverines / skunk bear / glutton / woods devil /carcaju and etc Those angry devils, incredibly cool dudes. Even tho they look like little bears they are mustelids! a family that includes otters, weasels, badgers, ferrets and etc. Just like their cousins they are ANGY really angy >:( so don't get close because they DON'T wanna be friends (they are hard to find in the wild so that is already really hard to happen)

Starting with their habilities, since they live in extremly cold places, they developed over the years a thicc hidrophobic oily fur! basically they are 💥ANTI-WATER💥 to adapt tho those really snowy environments and survive! and also avoid heat loos because of the blood of their prey/water. They also have incredbly good smelling habilities, let's just say that isn't easy getting food in that deadly cold, they do in fact have a vast food menu that goes to fruits and dead bodies but that's not easy to find! so they have a incredibly sensitive nose to track their great meals, dosen't matter if it is freezed, they have teeth and claws made to rip off that cold meat! Personally they are my favourite mustelids :3 lov yapping about them

PINK FAIRY ARMADILLO! Look at this silly, they are the smallest armadillos in the world (around, they are super cute.
But its hard to know much about them because they don't have much info but ill try!
Why they are pink? They are this collor because of their blood vessels that are close to their shell, and that with their white fur helps them with their body temperature since they live in really hot places on Argentina's center. (un beso a mis hermanos de argentina)
But do not be mistaken because they are GREAT scavengers because of their big claws.

Smilodon Populator I myself am a big fan of ancient felines (such as machairodus and cave lions) BUT I SPECIALLY LOVE THE SMILODON because guess what? The first ever fossil of a Smilodon was found in Brazil!
Enough of yapping about Brazil and more Smilodon yapping, specially the Smilodon populator aka the biggest saber-tooth species in history! They lived during the pleistocene period (Pleistos + kainos) and those kittens lived along-side humans! Aw, How cute.
But you see, those sabers aren't really that effective, they needeed to hunt their preys surgically, trow them on the ground with their big paws, and kill them by bleeding with a SPECIFIC bite on the prey's neck, probably, because of that their sabers would break alot, thats why most of the skulls are found with one loosing tooth.

Even tho they are called the Saber-Toothed Tigers they aren't close to tigers because they are not on the True panther (phantheranae) family or ""True big cat family"' so i can say, they are on a extinct sub-family named "Machairodontinae" not close to True Big cats or Avarge Cats (felinae) even.

#Mob's incredible animal knowledge#I LOVE COOL ANIMALS#shoutout to felines#and marsupials i didn't include any#yet

ur literally the coolest person ever what the fweak. anyways HAI THIS IS OPERA SINGER RAFAYEL HEADCANONS GIRL BUT MY MAIN BLOG LMAO and i was thinking like ik there's cryptozoology but what about... cryptoarchaeology... like if you catch my drift heh.... what do you think like, a lumerian fossil would look like? like what bones where, where would the fossils be found the most, stuff like that hehehehehe
!!!!! Hello!!!! You’re honestly the sweetest, I really enjoy seeing people share their professional experiences to breathe life into these characters! It’s so fun to learn something new and fleshes out the character even more.
To everyone else this is the post in question
And you’ve just given me the perfect opportunity to go onto a nerdy little rant hehe. This is gonna be all over the place so forgive me but this is a great time to nerd out
For those who are unaware, archaeology is actually a sub discipline of Anthropology. Anthropology can be split into four specific sub disciplines, which can be broken down further. Archaeology, biological anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and cultural anthropology. Each one of these specifically helps us study and understand ourselves as humans!
However, each sub discipline can be broken down further. What you’re talking about could possibly fall into zooarcheology, the study of animal remains to gain an understanding of human activity, or a non-anthropological study like paleontology. Archaeology is specifically about humans and Lemurians are very much not humans.
But this is also a sci-fi world with superpowers, a dragon, and gods so let’s not take ourselves too seriously here. Let’s dive into some cryptid archaeology/biological anthropology!
So what we know in canon about the burial practices of Lemurians is that instead of a formal burial with burial goods, instead the Lemurian returns to the ocean and dissolves into sea foam. Presumably they share the same reincarnation cycle the rest of the world is in, as seen by Rafayel himself. So finding Lemurian remains would be nearly impossible for an archaeological crew!
We do, however, see a Lemurian skeleton in canon. In Raymond’s home in the earlier chapters of the game. The skeleton is what you’d expect, the upper half appearing humanoid while the bottom half appears to be more “fish” like, constructing a tail. Which is interesting since in God of Tides we can see the Lemurians have a legged form as well.
It’s very possible Lemurians escaped detection on land by using a legged before death if they couldn’t reach the sea. I’d headcanon that beyond some minor quirks (IE. specific vocal folds variations, a way for them to breath underwater, etc) their humanoid skeletons might appear close to indistinguishable from a human’s. However, for the inexperienced, a good way to know would be the teeth. Sharper canines are a tell tale sign of a Lemurian, though the untrained eye might not see a difference at first. 800 years is enough time for some minor evolutionary traits to appear, after all, only the Lemurians who survived lived long enough to carry on their legacy and have children.
You’re more likely to find artifacts and remains in coastal regions, or regions that used to be coastal! You’re more likely to find a Lemurian near water, though it’s not out of the ordinary for some to go further inland out of desperation. Their blood is legendary for its supposed healing properties, some going so far as to claim it granted Lemurians immortality. Likely a mere legend, though legends alone can do damage to a culture, as we should all know.
Now, please treat Lemurian artifacts and remains with care! Repatriation is a tricky business. Since Lemurians are so highly sought after as trophies living Lemurians are in hiding. Please treat excavation sites with the utmost care! The last couple excavations went awry, after all. We’d hate to lose more professionals.
#mb rambles#Mb answers#Long post#lads rafayel#This went from me yapping to a in world cautionary guide. Might recycle this for a fic#This was a fun little thought exercise!!!

birthday gifts!! a littel photo album for meself 2 remember it by :3
first was a little dino-themed blind bag my partner got for me! the paper bag was so cute :3 the sticker was also cool i might steal it for my water bottle-

here's everything that was in it! items are listed from the top-left down
dinosaur lanyard
rex and ankylosaur notepad
beautifully rendered tyranosaurid postcard
kaprosuchus print
t-rex keychain-bookmark-thing(?) not sure what it is but ive seen them around before & theyre cool. the reverse side has just the rex's eyes framed in it >:3
sticker for something called "The Devils Demons". not sure what that is but hey if theres dinos i might check it out
holographic triceratops fossil sticker (this ones def going on my water bottle)
adorable carnotaurus acrylic keychain/bagclip. i love how dino lovers have embraced the silly carnotaurus from Prehistoric Planet
edmontosaurus (?) pin, also from The Devil's Demons. guess its a character?

sonic 3 action figure set!

sonic and shadow's eyes light up if you press the button on their chests :D i cant wait to pose them in homoerotic situations

modeling clay! this thing is heavy lol

Shin Godzilla DVD! Dad got this one for me and i'm so touched that he remembered me talking about how much i wanted to watch a few months ago.
i've heard a lot of good things about it from the horror circles i'm in, so im very excited to watch it :3
fun fact about me, the first Japanese film i ever watched was Ponyo, except the Ponyo DVD we had wasn't in English, it was the original Japanese version with no subtitles.
not ideal, but i have fond memories of watching it that way as a young child. i didn't know what they were saying, but the acting and visual storytelling were so strong that i still understood what was going on and was invested in the plot and characters. a few years ago i rewatched the film in English, but it didn't feel the same. oddly enough, i prefer the version of the film i cant understand (◠ω◠) (> ω <)
this DVD being original Japanese (as in literally shipped overseas from Japan) reminded me of that, and it brought everything full circle in a nice way. even though the film itself is far from whimsical or comforting in any way haha
this one was a few days early: my friend got me the new skins for Squirrel Girl and Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Rivals! :3 i would've added a screenshot of Rocket but i hit the photo limit 😭💔
what can i say i'm a furry that likes women and the beach. sue me
okay warning: photos below are of an animal skull. if you don't like that, don't click the read more/keep reading button. thank you!

by far the coolest present is from my aunt: its an actual raccoon skull! my mom thought it was a beaver when i first lifted it out of the box lol.
surprise! i'm into vulture culture (*^▽^*)
a bit morbid, i'm aware, but i don't really have a problem with it. i'm a science nerd and i find all parts of nature uniquely interesting, including death.
for as dark as the subject is, the community is very supportive and empathetic (at least in my experience). the folks on the VultureCulture subreddit are very kind and happy to help with identifying animal remains and giving advice on preservation for scientific/artistic display.
according to the box, this skull came all the way from Nebraska! i'm in California, so that's already crazy, but it shipped to my aunt first and she lives in Georgia! this little critter had quite the journey.
it probably lived in & traveled around an area about three square miles max until it's passing, so to think this little piece of it made the transcontinental journey from Nebraska to Georgia to California... i dunno, its kind of beautiful to me. its little soul got to see the wonders of the great-wide world.
anyway, i love it and i'm very excited to put it up on display o(*^▽^*)┛also excited to post the display photos to r/VultureCulture >:3

Aahhh, Fossil Fighters Frontier : one of my very favorite games ! I remember picking it up from the shelf out of curiosity, and here I was, playing the coolest dinosaur game ever. I decided to re-play a bit, and I completly forgot that there was a song for the intro ! I really liked exploring and digging up fossiles, but fighting was fun too ! My favorite vivosaur is Alxas, I mainly use him when fighting. I'm a bit over 68 hours of game time.
My second favorite is the Lythro. I named mine Nitro. However, I didn't give a name to my Alxas ? I should think of one someday.
And here's my car :

This is my favorite model. However, it is not my most performant one. Here are her stats :

And here's my most performant car :

I think my favorite Character is Drake. I have him in my team with Elric. Leon is also one of my favorite characters.
I would like to point out how hilarious Nibbles's evolution line is :
First, Nibbles as he follows you around.
then his first and second combat form. Yeah, that's regular vivosaur stuff.
But then he becomes a robot ???
And then thid monstruous thing.
While I do have all the vivosaurs, I don't have ALL the fossils. And don't get me started on the rare fossils, I have so little of them. Is it even possible to have a full vivosaur of rare fossils ? Let alone ALL the vivosaurs ??
Anyway, here are my other favorite vivosaurs : Gorgo, Spino ST, Nychus, V-Raptor, U-Raptor, Dilopho US, Dilopho, Sungari, Thalasso and Coatlus.

For Lula to be a climate leader, he must phase out oil
At COP28, the Brazilian president has sent mixed messages by aligning with OPEC. If he really wants to tackle the growing threat of droughts and floods, he must set a clear fossil-free, pro-nature direction for the UN climate summit he will host in Belém in 2025

The biggest-ever UN climate summit is well underway in Dubai with eighty thousand participants discussing hundreds of agenda items to avert the climate crisis, but ultimately there is only one goal that matters: reducing carbon emissions as quickly as possible by phasing out fossil fuels and eradicating deforestation.
By comparison, everything else is hot air. Delegates can talk all they want about green technology, net zero pledges, compensation payments, scientific studies and other well-intentioned initiatives, but none of that will be effective unless the world halts the build up of carbon dioxide and other planet-heating gases in the atmosphere. That existential challenge, upon which all life on Earth depends, can only be achieved by phasing out coal, oil and gas and restoring the health of the world’s climate infrastructure: the forests, oceans, wetlands and other centres of natural vitality.
If anyone was still in any doubt about the urgency of the climate crisis, this horrendously destructive year has surely made them realise we cannot wait a second longer: 2023 is already confirmed as the hottest year on record. July was the warmest month in more than 120,000 years. This has brought devastating drought to the Amazon, floods to southern Brazil, heatwaves to the Andean mountains, fires to Canada and death and destruction across many parts of the planet. This is just the start. If emissions from fossil fuels and forests continue to increase, then temperatures will continue to rise for decades. We will look back on 2023 as one of the coolest years of our lives. Soon, it won’t just be dolphins and fish that suffer mass mortalities, it will be people. “We are terrified,” a group of 1,447 scientists said in an open letter released at Cop28. “If we are to create a liveable future, climate action must move from being something that others do to something that we all do.”
The first week of Cop28 shows the desperate need for a new perspective. The process has been captured by the very people who profit most from increasing carbon emissions. The president of this climate conference is Sultan Al Jaber, who is the CEO of the biggest oil and gas company in the United Arab Emirates. As many climate campaigners have joked, this is like putting a fox in charge of a henhouse or asking Dracula to run a bloodbank. But it is not funny when the man in charge of addressing the most difficult and important challenge in human history goes on record to deny that eradicating fossil fuels is the only way to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius or that a life without oil would send humanity back into caves. These comments, which have been thoroughly rebutted by scientists, reveal the true face of the fossil fuel industry, which has been holding up progress for more than three decades.
All of which makes Brazil’s decision to align itself more closely with the world’s biggest oil cartel Opec, more disappointing. Announced at the start of the climate summit, the timing of this move could not have been more of a kick in the teeth to international efforts to tackle global heating. It is brutally pragmatic. Brazil aims to expand oil production in defiance of advice from the International Energy Agency that 1.5C is impossible if countries open new fields. The day after Cop28 finishes, Brazil will hold an auction of dozens of new oil development blocs. All of these steps will mean more drought, more suffering, more death in the years to come.

Silly vessels :] some of these are old ocs and I decided to give color to them
Mollo (any pronouns), a sort of snail-looking vessel with a shrimpy body. They think fossils are the coolest things ever
"bbbbb" (they/them, it/its), a vessel who is constantly moving. They can make a trilling sound, which is where their name comes from
Bubble (they/them), who is no thoughts head empty. They're just enjoying life :]
Fang (they/them), who likes food and biting things
The last image has concepts for Fang and Mollo as adults. It's fun to see how a vessel's horns will change as they age :] Fang's turn into tusks, while Mollo's become kinda branched
Also I think vessels with unusual body types are neat. They also aren't outside the realm of possibility - after all, who knows what traits they could inherit due to being void creatures. On top of that, their mother is a tree and their father is a wyrm/shrimp/fork hehehe
