It appears as though characters have succeeded in escaping the maze only to walk out into a Washington DC so far into the future that the city has collapsed completely and any of their loved ones once there are long dead. Progressing through the wreckage long enough will reveal new corn stalks and a way to reenter the maze.

"No.no.no." He started to chant to himself as he saw the ruins. He couldn't belive this. He thought he wasn't reading steiner anymore. Okabe wanted to curse the ley lines for seeing what semblance of live he had left. Being in Washington at least meant he was free. But not anymore. He went down on his knees, looking in true despair.

"This what was meant for me." He said in forlorn tone.

"good turnout tonight huh?" fizz said, looking around the club. they didn't have to worry about getting onto stage and hosting for another twenty minutes or so, and got to chill by the bar drinking with some of the patrons. most of the time fizzarolli stayed backstage rather than socializing, but he did want to go out and talk with people more. "are you performing tonight, or just here to see the show?" he hadn't looked over the list of people doing performances yet, planning on memorizing it right before he had to get on stage and start announcing people.

"is this.. are we out?" oliver asked, before taking in the sights around them. "oh my god.." was all he could bring himself to say. "how long were we in that maze for?" it hadn't felt that long, but the wreckage around them seemed undeniable too.

He was still coping with the fact that he was not only alive, but a young man again. While many would find this to be a blessing, he could only worry about his home and family. He knew moping and worrying about what had happened years prior was probably pointless so he had to keep going - for them. "Where is Ember Island," he muttered to himself as he scrolled through the internet, "it doesn't make sense - it's not like it doesn't exist!"

“pretend you don't know and turn a blind eye,” nora pleaded as she reached to take her journal back from them. to say she dabbled in poetry would make it sound too serious. it was for fun. although her intense reaction to the other reading it made it seem the opposite. “it’s not even that great… not worth the paper it’s written on or the time it’d take to read it.”
