BREAKING NEWS -
THE PRINCE OF WALES'S SOCIAL HOUSING PROJECT!
The Prince of Wales will build a £3m social housing development on his own land to tackle homelessness, delivering on his pledge in my interview with him last year that he would "absolutely" put social housing on the Duchy of Cornwall estate.
The development in Nansledan, a suburb of Newquay, the Cornish seaside town famous for its surfing, will include a mix of four-bedroom houses and one-bedroom flats.
The duchy, will supply the land for the project free of charge and cover all construction costs. It will also invest in local infrastructure, including a bus link and connections to electricity, water and superfast broadband.
The new low-carbon homes will feature slate roofs, granite lintels, solar panels, heat pumps and colourful timber windows. It will be built in a “traditional Cornish seaside” style, designed by Adam Architecture and local firm ALA Architects.
Prince William, who launched Homewards UK last year, is looking at more projects on his land. He wants other landowners to follow suit and build more social housing. William is also working with St Petrocs to offer residents “wraparound” support services in addition to housing.
Kensington Palace said: “The prince is delighted that the duchy is using the Homewards approach as inspiration for building this innovative housing project, partnering with St Petrocs to find ways of ultimately getting people into permanent housing.
“It is exactly what he wants to do and for him it’s another example that if we can show people here and in other countries what is possible, maybe others will follow our lead. The prince hopes that every town and city in the country will take inspiration from this project.”

Since Cornwall was the only qualified architect in the family, Hermia asked him for help with planning of the Veronaville Cemetery. It was the first time he was asked to design a place like that, but was excited about the opportunity and rushed to the drafting table as soon as Hermia left.
Tumblr media
It absorbed him for hours and before he realized, his family was all back home already.
Niall: Father, pay attention to me. I have a great report card here.

ITS BATIM FUSIONS O’CLOCK BOYS
Of course I made Bertrum fusions, may I present to you
Sullivan “Sulley” Cornwallis (Bertrum / Susie fusion), a terrifyingly jealous, suspicious and self-serving man with a view of others so skewed that just being in his presence is stressful. His fears of being replaced as the studio’s theme park architect are realized as Percy, the man he begged to have hired, ends up taking his place.
Tumblr media
Percival “Percy” Montgomery (Bertrum / Lacie fusion), a man who lives for his work and nothing else—he’s here to build you a park the way he wants to do it and is not interested in any other shenanigans, especially those belonging to Sullivan, which are a little too affectionate for Percy’s tastes.

Gideon's Quest
“But… wait,” Gideon interrupted, his young frame almost trembling with the effort of holding in perhaps the fortieth interruption he’d made since his mother began telling the story.
Belle smiled and folded her hands in her lap, waiting for the question she knew was coming, because it might have been one she would have asked, had she known this world's version of the story when she was Gideon’s age.
“If… if it was so valuable,” the words came tumbling out in an apologetic rush, “why did the king tell his knight to throw it into the lake?”
“A very good question, son,” Rumple said as he looked up from the book that was open and covering his whole lap, until he set it aside. “But it’s one that will have to wait until tomorrow for an answer.”
Belle cocked an eyebrow, then chuckled as her husband stood up, crossed the room and scooped up their son, playfully tossing the boy over his shoulder, fireman style, and began to carry him toward the door that led to the stairs.
“But Papa!” Gideon protested. “How will I ever know?”
“Tomorrow,” Rumple promised.
“I said how, not when?”
Belle sighed softly as she listened to the receding sounds of the debate as Rumple carried Gideon up to bed.
“And if you don’t get to sleep,” his father explained calmly, “You won’t enjoy the journey tomorrow. It’s a long way and we have to start early. Plenty of time for your mother to finish her tale.”
“Legend…” Gideon corrected, before whatever else he said became indistinct between the distance and the closed doors.
“You’ll work it out,” she said softly, getting up to straighten up the couch cushions from where Gideon had been stretched out with his head in her lap, listening more carefully than a seven year old boy usually knew how. “You always do.”
**
It wasn’t exactly the Cadillac, but the rental car had served them well enough on the five hour drive from Wrexham down to the threshold of Cornwall’s Bodmin Moor, and given the width of the roads hereabouts, that was probably a good thing. There were places, as they approached the village of Temple, where even this smaller car was almost touching the hedgerows on either side of the supposedly two lane road.
“Are you sure this is the right road,” Belle said quietly, so as not to wake Gideon, who had been lulled to sleep by the movement of the car.
Rumple glanced her way and nodded. “The farm is just the other side of Temple, and once we have the cottage key, it’s only a short way further.”
“It just seems so…” Belle shrugged, and finished, “remote.”
Rumple chuckled, and when Belle turned a quizzical look in his direction, said teasingly, “Don’t all of our best adventures happen in such places?”
“Adventures!?”
The small, still slightly sleepy voice from the back of the car interrupted anything Belle might have said in answer, but even so, Rumple couldn’t help but smile.
**
Gideon stood with his back to the little yellow cottage that his parents had rented and looked out across the empty landscape. He’d seen the pictures they showed him from the website, and the view all around as he peered toward the tiny sliver of blue in the distance was just as he expected.  His mother had told him it was Dozmary Pool.
He almost bounced with excitement wanting to run off toward it, but he’d promised to wait until his mother and papa had put away the groceries so that they wouldn’t spoil. If they didn’t hurry up, though, it would be getting dark, and then they’d have to wait until morning, but this was too important to wait.
This was Dozmary Pool, after all. - the lake into which Sir Bedivere had thrown Excalibur, and where the Lady of the Lake caught it, and drew it down to keep it safe.
As if sensing his excitement, his papa led his mother out of the cottage, and said, “I think it’s time we went for a walk. After hours in the car to get here, we could all do with some fresh air.”
Gideon looked again between his mother and his father.  He could tell there was some kind of secret message in that. He just couldn’t figure out what it was. He couldn’t let it trouble him. Instead, like a colt freed from the starting gate in his maiden race, he took off running toward the barely visible blue, noticing that his papa caught his mother’s hand.
“Let him be,” Papa said, “He’s a growing lad. He needs this.”
Gideon waved acknowledgement as his mother called out, “Just stay away from the edge, Gideon!”
On instinct, reaching the banks of the Dozmary Pool, Gideon ran an entire circuit of it with water on his left hand side, uncaring that in places, his feet squelched in the overly soft mud. Coming to a sudden halt he turned to face to the west, where the sun was already low in the sky and had built a path of amber fire through a sky darkening with both the drawing in of night and the gathering of darkening storm clouds.
“Gideon…!” He heard his name called from far away - his mother, he presumed, but his attention was caught by a whispered echo of it drawn out in the rustling breeze across the surface of the water. “Giiiiideooooooon,” and again, “Giiiiideeeeooooon.”
“What?” he murmured, taking a step close to the water, and sinking deeper into the sucking mud that now covered the tops of his sneakers. “What do you want? Who are you?”
“When you reached the lake,” the voice of his liege lord was weak and brittle with the effort of speech, “what did you see?”
“Nothing, Lord,” he answered, “I saw nothing.”
Did the lie weigh heavy on him?
“Nothing save the waves rippling across the water, and the wind swaying in the grass beside.”
Gideon sighed, and from out of some hidden pocket of memory, whispered, “Go back, and do as I have bidden you, my friend.”
A sudden breeze began to dance around him, plucking at his clothes and ruffling his hair, like a hand - full of affection, running through it as he heard the long drawn out whisper of his name once more. “Giiiiideeeeoooon.” but this time it went on. “Here… You’re here.”
A flash of gold drew his eyes down to the surface of the lake, and to the water streaming from the upraised blade, and the woman’s hand that held it.
“...here.” He gasped softly at the sight, and at the feel of a warm hand on his shoulder, giving him a soft shake, and the quiet voice that repeated, “We’re here.”
He opened his eyes, and frowned in only momentary confusion as he saw his mother crouched beside him, beside the open back door of the rental car, and beyond her, not the golden path across the lake to the sword, but the yellow cottage that stood waiting for them.
“Waiting for you,” the voice in his mind corrected, “to heal the Land.”
“A test,” Gideon whispered to himself, as he put the pieces together, sat up and then climbed from the car, looking around the empty landscape all around, and peered toward the tiny sliver of blue in the distance, “It was a test.”
His papa turned from the cottage door, and Gideon met his confused gaze with bubbling excitement, explaining, “When King Arthur’s knight was told to throw the sword into the lake. It was a test to see if the knight’s heart was true.”
“Very good, Gideon.” His mother leaned down to give him a hug, which he happily reciprocated, breathing deeply of the comfort he always felt in her arms. “I knew you’d work it out.”
“That’s why we’re here, isn’t it?” he asked, pulling back and looking between his parents. “If we can prove our hearts are true, then we can throw papa’s dagger into the lake, and the Lady will catch it, and keep it safe, and papa will be free!”

The Autumn Run, Salmon Oil Painting.
A signed oil on board of a leaping salmon by Arthur J.W. Burgess, R.I. R.O.I. The oil painting is signed bottom right-hand corner and is in original decorative gilt period frame. To the reverse are two paper labels, 'Autumn Spates - Royal Institute of Oil Painters - Arthur J.W. Burgess, R.I. R.O.I (8)' and 'The Autumn Run - Royal Institute of Oil Painters - Arthur J.W. Burgess, R.I. R.O.I'. Burgess was a well-known Naval Artist, fishing being his recreation, it was a major one in the inter war years when he pursued it in Wales and Scotland whenever possible. He was born in Bombala, New South Wales, Australia, 1879, a Son of an officer in the Australian Navy, who being an artist himself encouraged Arthur to draw from an early age. Burgess completed a three-year apprenticeship with a Sydney architect and with an early talent in art and an interest in marine painting, used his leisure time to sketch in Sydney Harbour. Arthur James Wetherall Burgess later studied art in Sydney before he emigrated to England just after his 21st birthday and continued his studies in St Ives, Cornwall. Burgess began to make a name for himself as a marine painter, including work for the Illustrated London News, The Sphere, The Graphic and for shipping companies.
During the First World War he became Official Naval Artist for the Australian Government. From 1922 to 1930 Burgess was art editor and principal artist of Brassey's Naval and Shipping Annual. He was also commissioned by the Illustrated London News to record the growing inter war interest in winter sports in the Swiss Alps, thereby Alpine paintings joined marine ones in his exhibiting record. In both 1928 and 1932 his work featured in the Olympic art competitions. Burgess became an official Australian war artist for the Second World War, also being commissioned by various ship owners to paint their merchant ships and convoys in ports all over the country. Having made rough sketches, he would returned to his studio in Ludlow to complete the finished paintings. After the war Burgess spent his last years largely recording activity in the Thames and the London Docks, dying on 16th April 1957, aged 78.
Works by Burgess are held by the National Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney and several British public collections, including the Imperial War Museum, the National Museum of the Royal Navy, and the National Maritime Museum.

Over to the last Monty household.
Tumblr media
Beatrice: Dad just magically graduated college! Benedick is dying. Beatrice: This isn’t about him.
Tumblr media
But yeah. I don’t know if he had flu or food poisoning, but I guess it got worse when he was showing up in the background for the last few years and as soon as I made him playable, he keeled over. Antonio: WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Tumblr media
Beatrice: Dad would you chill for a sec? I’m trying to catch a shiny. Beatrice: Aaaaaaaand... pause.
Tumblr media
Beatrice: Please don’t reap my brother, it’ll ruin my week.
Tumblr media
Grim: All right, you know how this goes.
Tumblr media
Beatrice: BIG YES!
Tumblr media
Grim: Look, this happens quite a lot, you really don’t have to make such a big deal- Beatrice: VICTORY DANCE!
Tumblr media
Benedick: Thanks, sis, you’re the best. Beatrice: And don’t you forget it.
Tumblr media
I’m not sure anything’s gonna top being brought back from the dead, game.
Tumblr media
Cornwall: How dare you! I’m married! And you interrupted my very important bin-kicking!
Tumblr media
Anyway, Benedick’s motives are all skew-whiff after that near-death experience, so I sent him out to use up some energy.
Tumblr media
Bottom: Oh my, what a stud! Benedick: Hee hee hee boing boing.
Tumblr media
Benedick: Throw a real punch!
Tumblr media
Isabella: She calls that a punch? What d’ya think, should we go in there and teach those infants how to throw a real punch? Albany: Perhaps after dinner.
Tumblr media
Isabella: All right, fucko, dinner’s over, and dessert is a KNUCKLE SANDWICH! Ginger: So hey, those old people behind you are going for it like a rock’em sock’em robot. Benedick: Please. Don’t acknowledge them.
Tumblr media
Albany: A SANDWICH ISN’T EVEN DESSERT! Benedick: I’m just... gonna go get a drink.
Tumblr media
Bartender: Aren’t you a teenager? Benedick: A teenager with money.
Tumblr media
The fighting was getting annoying, so I had Benedick hit up another lot and hit on Isaac Curious here.
Tumblr media
And then, home, just in time for... *squints* Alvin Futa here to kick over the bin. Alvin: I’m a Capp now! No you’re not, you’re barely a character. You’re lucky I even went to the effort of googling your name, I thought you were Ricky Cormier.
Tumblr media
Antonio: Money can be exchanged for goods and services and legal name changes.
Tumblr media
Beatrice: Ahh, a nice cup of tea.
Tumblr media
Roxie: Hey, quick question, what the fuck? Honestly no idea, babes. You can have some new gloves when I get to your household.
Tumblr media
Beatrice: I love this place. My memory is a bit shit, but I seem to recall it’s glitched and I had to teleport some people in to trigger walkbys? Beatrice: Why would you do that? The lack of people was what I liked best.
Tumblr media
Cute stray.
Tumblr media
Sharla: Yeah, money’s pretty great. Benedick: But you know what’s even better? Sharla: What’s that?
Tumblr media
Benedick: LEAVES!
Tumblr media
Sharla: But is it art?
Tumblr media
A joke that will probably only make sense to about three people, one of which is me.
Tumblr media
Antonio: And that’s why I became an architect!
Tumblr media
Antonio: And now to look around for building inspiration.
Tumblr media
Beatrice: Computer’s broke. HOW!? I literally just brought that! I’m not even joking, I brought it so she could fulfil a want, and she immediately broke it.
Tumblr media
Decided it was time to invite Isabella and Patrizio over for a little family bonding. Patrizio: So long as the bonding involves a delicious, home-cooked meal.
Tumblr media
No comment, just happy family fun times.
Tumblr media
This time Antonio was the one whose energy was out of sync, so he did some skilling over at the library.
Tumblr media
And then the next morning, I sent them out for breakfast. Beatrice: Where’s Benedick? Oh, his hunger bar’s full, so he-
Tumblr media
-has decided to lean right into that stereotype about teenage boys eating tons by joining the group anyway. Benedick: Gotta keep my strength up in case I die again!
Tumblr media
And then it’s off to the local museum. Beatrice: Can you say “parrot”? Parrot: Parrot. Beatrice: Yes! My very own Pokemon!
Tumblr media
Chloe: Oh, I’m serving something, all right.
Tumblr media
More leafy fun.
Tumblr media
And to round off the week, I invited Bianca’s family over. Townie: Hey kid! Paris: Mom? Bianca: Remember what I told you, don’t make eye contact with them, and they can’t hurt you.
Tumblr media
Antonio: I never realised how fulfilling being an architect could be.
Tumblr media
Beatrice: Don’t suppose you could help we with some maths? Bianca: I’ll be honest with you kid, I intentionally forgot how to do any of that the moment I aged up, you’re gonna have to ask someone else.
Tumblr media
Beatrice: Aliens? Any of you lot know trig?
Tumblr media
Benedick: Um, are you two OK? Sahira: Definitely not, please help.
Tumblr media
Bartended: You again? Benedick: Life is short. Townie: Heeyyyyyy teenage boy! Benedick: For some people, not short enough.

Ruins and Shelters
*Is there any genuine difference, in the long run? Maybe in Italy, which has had more long-run than most places.
via e-flux.
Demanio Marittimo.KM-278 is the marathon dedicated to architecture, arts, design and to the Adriatic dimension curated by Cristiana Colli and Pippo Ciorra. As every year, the XIV Edition takes place on a public beach in Marzocca di Senigallia on Friday, July 19, no stop from 6pm to 6am.
RUINS&SHELTERS is the theme of this year. On the one hand, it focuses on the accelerated production of ruins produced by wars, conflicts and catastrophes. On the other hand, it reminds us the need to find different forms of shelter/protection for increasingly fragile communities and individuals.
The setting for the event is the result of a students’ competition hosted by SAAD, School of Architecture University of Camerino. Winning team for the OLTRE project are Fatijon Ademaj, Michele Forti, Qendron Mema, Gloria Seri, Elisa Valori.
Demanio opens with a tribute to this year’s Master of Territory, Guido Guidi. His work will be discussed with Simona Antonacci,Carlo Birrozzi and Antonello Frongia. Paolo Volponi’s 100 Years anniversary will be celebrated by lectures held by Massimo Raffaeli, Aldo Bonomi and Giovanni Russo, curator of an exhibition organized at the Ducal Palace of Urbino.
An interdisciplinary focus will be dedicated to Kosovo with the curator and critic Alex Fisher, the Mayor of Pristina, Perparim Rama, the curators of Hangar e Autostrada Biennale Leutrim Fishekqiu and Vatra Abrashi, the artists Sislej Xhafa, Artan Hajrullahu, Blerta Hashani.
Another experience in the field of cultural heritagewill be discussed by Andrea Viliani, Director of the Museum of Civilizations in Rome and curator of the international program Pompeii Commitment, and Davide Quadrio, Director of MAO (Museum of Oriental Art) in Turin.
RUINS&SHELTERS is also a concept that brings us to the fragile centrality of the Living Being, ethical and self-reflective when it comes to humans, “natural” for non-human beings. Sociologist and writer Marco Dotti will discuss the subject with architectural historian Francesco Benelli and composer David Monacchi.
2024 commemorates 150 years since the birth of Guglielmo Marconi. It was from the Colle dei Cappuccini in Ancona that on August 7, 1904 he initiated the legendary “radio” connection with Poldhu in Cornwall, 1750 kilometers away. Marconi’s legacy between will be the focus of the reflections of technological philosopher Cosimo Accoto with Andrea Borgnino and the artist Giovanni Gaggia.
The New York-based firm Lot-Ek will lecture about their work and offer a preview of the film dedicated to them by the director Tom Piper. Artists, designers, filmmakers will be oon stage. Gustav Düsing will talk about his award-winning project for the University of Braunschweig, introduced by Anna Sala of MVDR Foundation. Pietro Martino Federico Pizzi will present the Ceresè winery project, best building of the year, together with Grazzini, Tonazzini, Colombo, designers of the “Quintessenza” installation for the MAXXI. They will be introduced by Lorenza Baroncelli, director of MAXXI Architettura.
Many installations, artworks, and public design experiments will be exhibited. A Villa Medici fellow artist, Alix Boillot, will present her work Grace. HPO, the Ferrara collective of young architects, will present the TTT installation. The London based collective Lemonot will present Talamo, a project created by the Marche company Noctis and produced by BASE for the last Milan Design Week, introduced by  Linda Di Pietro, director of BASE, and Lorenzo Petri.
The frontiers of design will be explored by We are the Others (2024, 55 min), a film by Maria Cristina Didero and Francesca Molteni dedicated to the 40 years of activity of the Brazilian brothers Fernando and Humberto Campana. After the viewing, the authors will meet with Marva Griffin. Three shorter films, produced by the LINA fellows Ewa Effron, Laura Hurley, George Guedani in the frame of the MAXXI Architecture Film Lab will be introduced by the authors.
The event is promoted by MAPPE magazine, Gagliardini Editore, Associazione Demanio Marittimo.Km-278 with the collaboration of MAXXI, the Municipality of Senigallia, the Marche Region and with the support of a wide network of businesses, institutions and associations.
