in my dream last night i was conditioned by this man with mind magic, or maybe just regular psychological manipulation, to want to stay in this house forever. or rather to not be able to think about leaving. there were others who came and went and would occasionally question me on why i never looked out the windows or approached the door, i literally could not bring myself to do so, or even comprehend the idea of it.

it was a moderate sized house, i think he rented the rooms to various college age young adults, and sometimes i would room with a stranger. but one group of college kids, they wouldn't really leave me alone, they wanted to know about me, and include me in their activities. slowly but surely, thoughts of exiting would enter my head before being smoothed over, there were cracks in the veil i wasn't even able to notice before, i grew irritable and confused.

one day one of the girls invited me to move rooms and room with her instead. she went out for a bit to let me acclimate to her space. the walls were painted a warm orange and the bedding was a deep magenta, instead of the bleak white walls and white sheets i was accustomed to. there was a bunk bed with a wooden frame, and a private bathroom.

i thought about looking out the window. i realized i had never had this thought before. why couldn't i think about looking out the window before now? can i look out the window? i wasn't allowed to look out the window. why not? why couldn't i do it? who's to stop me? i was in front of the window. i looked, and it had just snowed. and then i woke up.
