History:

Marianna Angelique Callidora (most commonly known as Mari) was born into a wealthy family who was infamous for their contributions to illegal Pokemon trading. After witnessing the successful creation of Mewtwo, Mari's family began to experiment on their own child in hopes of being able to do the same. They went through countless years of torture in order to perfectly replicate the cloning of a legendary Pokemon and in the end, Mari's body had been altered to the point where their body and being was reminiscent of a vampire. Having seen his childs malnourished body, Mari's father had opted to put a stop to the experiments for he had finally come to his senses.

From then, Mari's father continued to lavish them in the life of luxury. From importing their desired sweets to adding a whole area in their estate dedicated to Mari's love for cute Pokemon. Mari's father went as far as ordering all the housemaids to do Mari's duties for them and as a result of this, most if not all of the housemaids in the estate held a grudge against Mari for how spoiled they became. Being a child, Mari didn't know any better, they didn't know what was going on around them - they just assumed that they did something wrong because of how bitter the housemaids were towards them.

In a desperate attempt to make the housemaids like them, Mari would constantly give all of them handmade trinkets like bracelets and rings. Mari even went as far as hosting a whole banquet of gratitude for them. But alas, all of these attempt went down the drain for the housemaids hated them even more. They would constantly talk behind Mari's back and call them demeaning nicknames. At one point, one of them went as far as ruining Mari's 10th birthday by destroying the outfit they were planned to wear for the event. As a result of this, Mari grew up to be a sad, lonely person who didn't know how things worked and was too scared to ask any questions.

Joining the Explorers:

Due to their family's wealthy status, it was common for Mari's father to make deals with shady businessmen. One of them happened to be Gibeon. He allegedly promised Mari's father that if he were to make a deal with him, he would make millions for the Callidora family and in return, Mari would finally learn life lessons and be a useful asset to their family's dealmaking skills. However, Gibeon knew that Mari was a skittish person and that they wouldn't trust anyone so he ordered a certain Explorer Admin to ease their way into Mari's life so that they would be more comfortable joining the shady organisation - and that Admin was Amethio.

Once they finally joined the Explorers, Mari was assessed on their battle skills and intellect which to Gibeon's dismay was quite low. As a result of this, Mari was given the role of the Explorers Healer. What he doesn't know is that Amethio gives out classified information to Mari.

Relationship with Amethio:

Amethio was never intended to be a love interest for Mari but due to certain circumstances, that is how things played out to be. The two were introduced to one another purely for business related purposed. Amethio was supposed to ease his way into Mari's life so that they would trust his words, which were used to coax them to join the Explorers. But as time went on, the two had formed a close bond with one another and before long, they had fallen for one another. Amethio was stubborn, he didn't want to admit he fell for the one he was supposed to be emotionally manipulating yet here he was, he was the one being emotionally manipulated - or so he thought.

Personality:

At first, Mari can come of as shallow and narrow-minded due to their demeaning choice of words as well as their overall demeanour towards people. They will often avoid people who they deem as a nuisance or in some occasions, outright express their hatred towards people that they dislike.

But in reality, Mari is a scared and cowardice person who doesn't want their current life destroyed by the people around them. Due to their upbringing, they build a wall around them and the people they care about out of fear that people will take away their only happiness. Mari is also a bit of a people pleaser. They will change any and everything that their loved ones dislike in order for them to stay.

Mari greatly fears abandonment and as a result, they often latch onto the people that they care about the most (ie. Amethio). They go as far as clinging onto them and following them around. This is because they claim that if they're within proximity of the people they cherish, they will be able to protect them from anything wrong.

a/n: MARI LORE IS FINALLY COMPLETE !! i tried not to involve amethio too much into their lore because amethio himself doesnt have a lot of backstory and intertwining their stories together feel like im just rewriting a well written character.

mari having short hair pre-explorers and post-explorers got me thinking abt something.

they say hair holds memories, so they cut their hair after leaving the explorers as a way to signify that they want to forget the memories of being harassed and abused in their line of work.

idk how to explain this next bit but the reason why mari's hair wasn't cut into this pixie cut was because some of those memories they made during their time in the explorers were significant enough (ie. meeting amethio, having aqua as a sister before she left for the RVT)

a little known fact about mari is that their mother's family comes from the south. at some point during their life, they visited their mother down south and lived with her for a period of time.

overtime, they developed a southern accent and started to incorporate their slang to their everyday vocabulary. when they returned to the city, it was quite hard for them to conceal the country accent from their father.
