one of the more underrated crazy things i've seen happen in my lifetime is white people successfully reclaim cracker as a slur that people shouldn't use. like i promise you as a white person cracker is not a hurtful word to me and would only offend me if i was in fact defensive over my association with slaveowners. and yet here we are

To this day I'm still fuckin baffled by the vaguepost about "people who love the Lotus but """"hate"""" Teshin" that tried to claim that Teshin had equal narrative presence as the Lotus. What the fuck.

I won't be obtuse about it: that post was """"criticizing"""" the double standard between treatment of fictional characters who happen to be a white woman and a black man.

But that's it. For an accusation and """"conversation"""" about the topic of race and bias in fandom, it sorely missed the necessary critique of the quality of writing between these 2 characters. The poster targeted the people who just don't care about the damn character, when DE is guilty of half-assing the writing of their first black character in the game.

Teshin barely made an impression on me before The Duviri Paradox. He appeared to parallel the Lotus while having little substance of his own to stand on. He cared for the Tenno and wanted to train them, set them on "the noble Dax's path", sure. But he didn't teach me much about being a Dax other than that they were spiritual, they held themselves with honor, they were pretty orientalist ngl, and they were slave-soldiers to the Orokin.

Teshin barely talks about himself and how he felt serving the Orokin. In fact some of his lines imply that he's still a proud subscriber to the Orokin way of life; his biggest regrets being that he "let the war happen" and "failed the Orokin". I do not want to endorse the message of a black slave character supporting how his oppressors lived, and dying feeling that he failed them.

In Duviri Paradox he got a lot more lines that humanized him, made him interesting. But he also became "The Magic Black Man" trope alongside "The Old Wise Grandpa" archetype: this mysterious, wise and all-knowing guide to the Drifter... Who then died. Again. To push the Drifter's story instead.

So much focus on me not enjoying a black male character when I doubt DE even considered his race in his characterization. It feels convenient to pit a white woman and a black man against each other in a story: look at these 2 """"EQUALLY"""" marginalized people having conflicting ideals ooooooo they're fighting!!!!!! woooaaaa who's the right one????? one is a woman and one is a man but the woman is white and the man is black so who's gonna win??????? WOOOOOOAHHHHH we're never gonna consider the notion of these two teaming up and standing against their common enemy to reach their common goal because isn't it AN INTERESTING MORAL DILEMMA TO CHOOSE WHO YOU SIDE WITH??????

But those vagueposts said I was supposed to LIKE him. Because he's like the Lotus. Better yet, I was supposed to like him BECAUSE I was NOT RACIST. BECAUSE for a while Teshin was the first and only black character in Warframe? I'm supposed to blindly love a token black character AND AGREE THAT HE'S AS WELL WRITTEN AS THE LOTUS???????????

NO. NO I WILL FUCKING NOT.

Sorry, but Teshin fans are doing the majority of the legwork for a character that DE should have been the one doing. I don't know what to say if I'm still the villain of your life for not doing that same legwork for a "wise old grandpa" archetype the majority of the population is known to already enjoy because I'd rather be a lesbian writing about the trauma of women whose presences since Day 1 were ridiculed and belittled in a society that encourages misogyny.

Orange boyo is Crackers! It is very Slug and follows slugcats who give it food (including Kep, who is in the first image). Also if you pick up Crackers it'll stretch its legs

The fourth image is Cookie (it/its, she/her), who is based on hammerhead worms. She's poisonous, so if you pet her you should wash your hands afterwards. She tastes super bad

While slimecats have almost no parental instincts (slimepups just bud off their parent and then wander away), some of Crackers' pups decided to ride around on its back. Why? Because it's free transportation and Crackers knows where food is :]

First of our character refs. An Eastbourne classic -- meet Paula Cracker.

Born and raised in relatively standard conditions, Paula's life was changed forever when she was in a massive car accident that was more or less entirely her fault. She claims she was Phineas Gage'd, but really she's always been kind of a raging bitch.

When she's not off buying shoes and doing other bog-standard girl things, Paula can usually be seen starting fistfights outside of the local pub or gazing at the massive wall she's dedicated to pictures of her ex-boyfriend. Aside from that she's mostly known for relentlessly bullying bandmates Lucifira and Hannibal -- the former put her eye out and the latter fucked her ex.

Nothing if not vindictive, Paula only makes up for this by being a skilled guitarist and shockingly gifted songwriter, making her sort of the David Lee Roth of Rejectz -- a big personality with a foul disposition. And they can't even kick her out this time, because it's HER BAND.
