thinking about she/it andy… werewolf gender ramblings under the cut bc i got carried away thinking about my darling label-less creaturegirl

andy's gender identity and relationship with herself have been core ideas in her character development from the get-go, and i've always understood her as distinctly outside of the binary, but i've never tried to put it to words before? owing in part to the fact that i've never pinned down what pronouns it might prefer, but i had a eureka moment today. she won't bring it up herself, but on the off chance she gets close enough to someone who also has a Weird Gender and it comes up in convo she might open up a little about pronouns and gender things. maybe. her IC grasp on the matter is much less developed than mine though, lol.

it doesn't have a specific label for its gender, but it won't correct anyone who assumes its a woman. for her it's less about actively identifying with transness and more about a feeling of disconnection from concepts of gender. this echoes how her identity as a human was taken from her when she was turned! despite its discomfort with (and fluctuating hatred of) the fact that it's a werewolf, it conceptualizes itself more as a beast than as any human gender so it reclaims its ferocity and bases its iteration of girlhood on that. it's all about the dichotomy and the sense of agency she finds there... all while outwardly performing traditional femininity, not to uphold any social contract but because that's what it knows and enjoys.

also thinking about how this all plays into her being a lesbian and what that realization looked like for her... she probably thought she was asexual until her late teens, exacerbated by her traumatic turning in her preteen years. still unsure how/when precisely it realizes it's gay, but it definitely never had a moment where it "realized" it wasn't a woman. she just never felt like one.
