Well fuck. No spoilers, but that was a hell of a show! Hope everyone at home tomorrow enjoys it as much as we did tonight, and maybe my voice will have come back by then... 😎
I don't wanna say too much rn bc spoilers and everything but hot damn this plot is like it's *made* for me. Caduceus along for the ride? Jester having the worst day because Sending is broken? Trent free? Trent threatening Essek?? Made. For. Me. Thank you Matt Mercer I am feasting tonight.
If I can convey anything about this whole experience of critical role live in london, please know that when Mr Matt Mercer said the word Shadowhand, the entire room hung on his word. I've never seen one man create such an audible caesura. The power that purple war criminal twink has on a sold-out arena....
Today I learned I will never be able to explain to a non-critter how incredibly tense and wonderful and terrifying and absolutely batshit crazy it is to actually be in the room and watch this amazing cast roleplay and roll their dice.
Like, the way we all cheered and clapped loudly and passionately when someone rolled a nat20 or said something cool?
I might not understand a single thing about soccer, but boy oh boy do I get the whole nailbitingly tense and pure experience of rooting for your team.
Luc calling the Mighty Nein heroes and seekers of good and justice meanwhile the Nein are all looking at each other like ‘this kid knows we’re a bunch if assholes who just keep ending up with power and responsibility randomly falling into the wrong hands (theirs) right?’
I'm still planning on a cloud (maybe it's the less sleep the night before catching up to me) but holt shit you guys, I have not enough words, how can I say it more clearly that
THE LIVE SHOW WAS AMAZING !!
We arrived at 5.20pm, the doors were opening at 5pm, so the queue was already immense, but it did not matter because the energy was everything. To see so many people dressed up with CR t-shirts and skirts and merch, and cosplayers, anf just so many people being a live fandom, and I was a part of it... It's the dream.
Seeing an episode live on Twitch and live-blogging it gives me a sense of community, but that feeling was amped up to 2000% last night. Hearing the crowd roar the theme song, applaud, scream "NEIN !!!", gasp audibly like we were one person...
And the production side was amazing as well (except for a few and small unfortunate mic incidents), the lights, the decor of the stage, the fucking camera work with ~dramatic~ zooms and close-ups !!! A big round of applause for the production team, please.
To those who were not there : you are in for a ride, trust me.
I designed a memento ticket for Critical Roles' first international live show in London! I miss getting physical tickets & putting them up on a cork board, so I took matters into my own hands. I used the original advertisements to make it match and if you scanned the bar code on amazon, it takes you to one of their books. Can't wait for the show!
At the live show (AAAAAAHHHHHH) and the pre-show quiz is on the big screen and Caleb's chibi has a framed picture of Essek on the side table next to the chair he's cozied up in and I am so unwell about it
This is about the liveshow, but NO spoilers! (I wouldn't dare deprive you of the rush of going in blind).
As I am heading back to the airport I feel like I have to talk about yesterday to make sure it was actually real.
The liveshow was incredible! Of course the entire cast blew it out of the park! It was exciting, emotional, and a little fucked up. The perfect mix.
I haven't had or seen any unkind interaction at all, and at times we were squished like sardines y'all. I met some friend I have only seen a few times fate to face or never! And it was the absolute best.
I am feeling a little blue rn, but I know I'm probably just coming down from the high of yesterday. There have been many times during the past weeks and even days where I considered just not going because of my anxiety, but I am so glad I went. And I'm definitely doing it again if the opportunity presents itself.
Essies (Essek Besties) it has been an HONOUR to feast on the singular word that is shadowhand with u tonight. I would not trade the frantically tag scrolling in the break and muttering under my breath about Where Essek in the narrative apex for anything in the world <333 there is no essek so there is no peace and love on planet earth... but there is peace and love on my blog tonight!!! Tonight we rejoice in the 3 syllables of shadowhand AND Laura Bailey saying the name Essek out loud!!!! we won I think.
