Ye! I've been working on the lineup for them and also the outline of the fic itself. I've also wanted to give it a better name than "the Historical AU" but no dice on a clever one yet.
It's a ToS1 AU set in 1880s US, though there is still magic and such. It's also a Jailor/Vigilante fic because there was like one scene I wanted to write for them, and then it slowly became the whole AU. As it goes LOL
I keep also bouncing back and forth about how much I want to share/reveal on my blog. I don't want to spoil too much so that people won't want to read it, but I also really want to talk more about it.

Here's part of the lineup with heights, particularly of the four town that will be the most seen. Most of the story I plan to focus on the Jailor's perspective, but I plan on poking in on the mafia and neutral roles (Witch and SK) occasionally to catch up with them.
Also, for the AU, I've decided to see ToS2 as a prequel rather than a sequel chronologically. This is sort of relevant for the Doctor in particular, who descends from ToS2's Cleric. I started this AU in May, dropped it for a few months, and then came back to it recently to hopefully finish the fic LOL
Vigilante, Veteran, and Doctor are all pretty close-knit socially from the start. The three of them have histories together: Doc and Vet served in the American Civil War together with Vigi's father. So they all sorta knew that while they could kill, Doc refuses to, Vet would do it only in self-defense, and Vig would immediately confess to them in guilt.
Jailor, at the start, is actually more socially aligned with Mayor, Crus, and the Town Investigatives. In fact, he assumes Vigilante as the person who killed the first Town member initially. However, after a rather spicy trial, he gets socially adopted by the trio.
Also, compared to a normal ToS game, the town is very passive. There's a lot of talking and accusing, but not much gets dealt with during the day. Most of the accusing comes from Crus, who in this AU is a priest who has called himself "the Crusader". Especially when the news of a witch starts brewing, he's quick to accuse some others to get it dealt with.
I should also say that this fic won't be for everyone. I do better with my writing when I'm dipping into trauma and heavy topics (read: "The Calamity Named Insomnia", my main ""fic"" on Ao3 {it's about my and friends' OCs}, was, yes, regarding the very real issues that cause and are caused by insomnia). So, religious and war trauma are definitely on there. I'll be sure to tag everything when the fic does come up, of course.

about tos2 invest and sheriff...
many people talk about changes they want made for them, and this is what i think
for invest, i think generally the searching for blood thing works. i just think that, once sc gets a soul from a dead player, the invest should be able to see blood on them (from being around the dead body?). invest and sheriff are meant to compliment each other, finding the ones that the other cant, but 3/4 apoc cant be found by either of them
with sheriff, i think they should be able to find the two apoc that my invest thus cant, so pb and baker. diseased bread
and, of course, i think they should be able to see townies as potentially being evil since this is social deduction, so it doesnt feel the most fair that they can only really see evils as potentially being evil -- evils should have a chance to weasel their way out of being caught, be persuasive
so, i think that the invest should be able to see tks as having blood, regardless of if they killed or not, alongside also seeing maybe the crusader (and possibly bg...? but thats kinda stretching it, although it does give evils more fakeclaiming room if caught by invest, so maybe it should be added as well)
and i think the sheriff should be able to see these roles as sus: retributionist (ARE YOU GRAVE ROBBING ?!?!?! WHAT THE HELL!!!) tav (why are you getting people drunk around town and making them forget to do their job you maniac?!), tracker (are you a fucking STALKER?), and maybe psy (what kind of black magic are you using to get these visions?!)
i dont want there to be any town subfaction that has no roles that either an invest or sheriff might see as possible evils, which is why i included two ti's as being possibly mislabelled by a sheriff as being suspicious. due to that, though, a tpow should be able to be seen as possibly evil, so i guess an invest should always be able to see blood on them as well
basically ... i dont think these roles should only be able to see evils as being suspicious, as tos2 is meant to be a social deduction game. the way these roles work right now make it close to impossible for an evil to convince the town theyre good once spotted by an invest or sheriff (outside of "fake sheriff!" or "fake invest!" but tis usually arent hanged first in a 1f1 anyways), which feels kinda shitty. so i think they should have some town roles theyre 100% guaranteed to mislabel as being potentially evil, so then instead of evils being immediately condemned to death upon being seen as sus or with blood, they can realistically argue their way to continuing living
although, of course, my list of townies being possibly mislabelled as evils shouldnt be used exactly, as i think its a bit unbalanced and might make the sheriff seen as being even worse
also, i think theres too many tpows, and i dont think any non-tpow town roles should be able to confirm themself (as in, their role appearing beside their name in green to other players while theyre still alive). deputy, a tk role that i thought was tpow when first playing due to being confirmed like that, should be changed, and either marsh or pros should be removed (or make it so then a marsh and pros cant be in the same game)
