Today we are looking at a kind of unexpected, but (i think) good gift idea… a fireproof document bag!

There’s a big variety of different options on amazon and other retailers ranging in price – but you can really get a decent one for like 20 bucks and so it’s a pretty affordable gift. But lets dig into why would this make a good gift.

Well i’ve really stressed the importance of making backups of your private keys and seed phrases here in this series and if you are at the point where you are using stainless steel backups – like we talked about with crypto keys – then that’s already naturally fireproof – but if you are using something like the shieldfolio that I showed a few days ago… putting that into a fireproof bag is just an easy way to add one more layer of security.

Not just that… but in general, it’s nice to have a waterproof and fireproof place to put important documents to help keep them safe. Not everyone wants to have big metal safe in their house and so a document bag like this can be a nice middle ground and a cheap/easy way to help keep your private keys and other important documents more protected.

physical bitcoin coins are really steeped in a lot of history and there is a variety of options on the market. There are some that are actual collectibles, some that act as cold storage, some that are made out of precious metals like gold or silver, and some that are honestly just kind of decorative and fairly inexpensive.

Obviously, the decorative ones will be cheaper than the other options I mentioned and so your budget can help guide what you think will be the best option for you. If you do go for a cold storage option though – I would just advise against buying on amazon and purchasing directly from the company so as to make sure you aren’t purchasing a counterfeit.

Now the reason I think these make a fun gift is that even if it is just decorative – it can be a really simple, yet cyberpunk feeling item to add to a display on a shelf or on their desk that might just make them smile when they see it. Honestly, i think that’s a good goal to have when getting someone a gift.

This series wouldn’t be complete without looking at different hardware wallet and cold storage solutions!

So there are a lot of different options in the market at different price points and with varying levels of security. I honestly think a hardware or cold storage device is one of the best gift options you could get because even if the crypto lover in your life already has a hardware wallet – they could always use more.

In fact i’m a really big proponent of using multiple different hardware wallet devices and brands to help keep your funds secure. The reason being that there are a lot of phishing attacks and scammers out there and if all of your cryptos is one device and let’s say you fall for a phishing scam and download a bad version of the app or accidentally give up your keys – then ALL of your crypto could be gone – but if you have it spread between different devices and brands – then that can just be one more layer that you use to protect yourself.

A few hardware wallets or cold storage options that I’ve used and really like are the Ledger nano X, a lot of people really like using trezor too and so that’s a good one to check out. On more of the cold storage front, I have an elipall wallet and a cold card. Another cold storage device that will be launching in the new year that I’m really excited about is Ngrave – so you can check them out too – but it just won’t be available in time for the holidays this year.

So far we’ve looked at a few good book options, the open dime, crypto socks… steel backups … a bitcoin mug, the Shieldfolio stonebook and ghost pen and today… we are looking at one of my favorite crypto artists!

His store is actually crypto-art.com and I’ve had a few of his pieces for over a year now. What I really like about his art, is that it not only has this revolution rousing, non-conformist vibe to it – but it actually doubles as cold storage and soon will be available as NFT’s as well.

So let’s take a closer look at how the cold storage aspect works. So just quickly to define cold storage – it’s the process of moving your funds into a completely offline capacity. Now there are a lot of potential ways you could do this – but crypto art is one of my favorite because you also get to enjoy a cool piece of art as well. So the way this works is pretty simple … if you flip the art over – you’ll see that there is a sticker. Under the sticker you’ll find a piece of paper with a QR code that you can scan within a bitcoin wallet to move funds onto the art. And then to retrieve the funds in the future – you would basically do the process in reverse and scan the QR code that’s on the back into a bitcoin wallet.

So I mentioned NFT’s earlier – the artists is currently in the process of iterating the art into NFT’s on OpenSea – which will allow collectors to trade their pieces on the secondary market. I chatted with him about what would happen with current art holders and there will be a process for them to claim an NFT – which i thought was really cool.

You can see here on his site that there are a bunch of really cool designs and sizes you can choose from based on your preference and budget – just be sure to order soon to make sure it gets here in time for christmas.

So far we’ve looked at a few good book recommendations, the open dime, crypto stocks… steel backups … a bitcoin mug… But today I’m covering one of my latest obsessions – the Shieldfolio Stonebook and Ghost Pen!

I’m trying to kind of float in and out of different price points here in this series – so some that are a bit smaller and more of the stocking stuffer variety, and other’s that are pretty legit gift item and so today is just a fun little add-on that the crypto lover in your life will totally appreciate.

I talk a lot here on my channel about the importance of creating backups of your private keys. The reason that you want to make offline backups, is that if you only have your private keys or seed phrases saved on a password manager on your computer and something happens, such as getting locked out of the account, or there is some glitch with the software and they get deleted, or maybe you even get hacked… you want to have a physical backup so that you can still access your accounts.

A few days ago we talked about stainless steel backups – but before people are ready to go to that length… they generally just write them down on a piece of paper – which presents certain potential issues. Like you could literally spill water on it and be SOL.

So that’s where the Shieldfolio comes in. It is both tear-resistant and waterproof, and the size makes it super portable if you need to take it with you – but the size also makes it easy to hide which is great. Oh and a random thing you probably never thought of but is a nice perk is that pages repel insects and they never turn yellow.

I also really like the organization of it all too so that things aren’t just haphazardly written down everywhere.

My favorite part of this whole setup is the Ghost Pen. Basically you can write things down and it will be invisible to the naked eye… until you shine the UV light on it. You can even get super sneaky and write a WRONG private key in regular ink and then write the correct one on top of it with the ghost pen. So the ink itself is super durable and waterproof as well … so basically it’s not going anywhere.

It’s a really nice price point for a gift option as well. The Stonebook is currently on sale for $45 and the ghost pen is only 10 bucks. Just be sure to order soon to make sure it can get in in time for Christmas.

So for a little context, i am a total mug person … like when I visit a new city I often try to find a cool mug as a memento, and so even though I have a lot of options on my shelf – I LOVE using my bitcoin mug… it just kind of makes me smile and I bet the crypto lover in your life will feel the same way – especially if they are a regular coffee or tea drinker.

I’m using this kind of basic bitcoin design as an example, but there are a lot of really cool and original designs out there. If you just go to etsy.com and type in "crypto mug, bitcoin mug, ethereum mug" – whatever you are looking for – you’ll probably find a whole bunch of cool designs.

Today’s gift suggestion is honestly a MUST HAVE for crypto hodler’s and that is a stainless steel backup option for your private keys and seed phrases. There are a lot of different options out there in the market, but today I’m showing you the one I personally use – which is Crypto-keys!

Jamesson Lopp did a full "stress test" on all the major crypto steel options in the market to test for fire, corrosion, and getting crushed – and the crypto-keys were actually the top-performing option with A’s all across the board!
