YGO OC Week Day 3: Deck
Penelope uses Crystrons, a WATER Machine Synchro deck that focuses on synchro summoning during the opponent's turn. In addition to the standard methods of quick synchroing, the maindeck tuner monsters have the ability to make a machine synchro during the opponent's turn using themselves and one other material in another zone. Quan can use a non-tuner from hand; Citree can use a non-tuner from the graveyard, banishing both; and Rion can use a non-tuner that's banished, shuffling back both.
Her ace monsters are a joint effort between Phoenix and Quariongandrax; the latter would be the one she'd pick if she had to choose. The massive mechs emphasize both of the advanced forms of synchro (accel synchro and multiple tuning, respectively), forcing her to push her advancements even further beyond.
Penelope finds a particular bond between herself and Citree; the monster is a critical part of her strategy, but is also great for dragging someone out of their depths or failure and making them into something better. She sees a bit of herself in it, and thus it's one of her favorite cards.
While she worked with her father to build the deck, she's stuck with it because it matches her personality: adaptable and ready to respond to whatever the situation may be. No one option is perfect for every scenario, but the flexibility and understanding of the opponent makes her a formidable foe. It also allows her to try all sorts of creative plays, many of which the opponent won't see coming.
Of course, no duelist worth their salt would lack a series of summoning chants and voice lines, so here's some of Penelope's (this is designed to be read like a DL "all voice lines" video, with some cards cut due to lack of interesting lines):
"Crystron Quan's effect! I can Synchro Summon a Machine during your turn using it and a monster in my hand!"
"Crystron Citree's effect! I can Synchro Summon a Machine during your turn using it and a monster in my graveyard! Scrap Synchro!"
"Crystron Rion's effect! I can Synchro Summon a Machine during your turn using it and my banished monster! Dimensional Synchro!"
"Become the instrument that reforges my monsters for battle! Synchro Summon! I craft the level 3 Synchro Tuner monster, Martial Metal Marcher!"
"Martial Metal Marcher's effect! When it's summoned, I get back a tuner from my graveyard, but its effects are negated."
"Show off the integration that will form the future! Synchro Summon! I create the level 4 Synchro Tuner, Crystron Quandax!"
"Quandax's effect! I can synchro summon during your turn using monsters I control!"
"When Quandax is destroyed, I can summon back a non-synchro Crystron from my graveyard."
"Crystals combine to craft a defense against your assault! Synchro Summon! Appear, level 5! Crystron Ametrix!"
"Ametrix's effect! If it's synchro summoned, all of your special summoned monsters are switched to defense position! Gemstone Guard!"
"When Ametrix is destroyed, I can summon back a non-synchro Crystron from my graveyard."
"Metal forms a carapace to protect me from your attacks! Synchro Summon! Appear, level 6! Powered Inzektron!"
"Inzektron's effect! It can't be destroyed this turn, and I take no more damage!"
"Combine your forces to forge the engine that topples dynasties! Synchro Summon! Appear, level 7! Samurai Destroyer!"
"When your card effect makes Samurai Destroyer leave the field, it can bring back a machine from the graveyard!"
"Samurai Destroyer returns itself!"
"Machinations combine to form the apex dreadnaught! Synchro Summon! Come out with a splash! Level 9, Navy Dragon Mech!"
"Navy Dragon Mech's effect! If it's summoned, I negate a card you control for every tuner in my graveyard! Short circuit 'em!"
"The fire of my passion burns bright enough to stop you! Synchro Summon! Appear in a blaze of crimson to shatter my enemy's hopes! Level 9! Vermillion Dragon Mech!"
"Vermillion Dragon Mech's effect! By banishing a tuner, I can destroy a card on the field!"
"The contributions of many combine to form the greatest advancements of all! Synchro Summon! Channel the souls of the machines to lead me to victory! Level 9, Crystron Quariongandrax!"
"Quariongandrax's effect! For each material used for its summon, I can target a monster from your field or graveyard, then banish them all!"
"When Quariongandrax is destroyed, I can summon any banished monster back to my field."
"The technologies of the present combine to form the advancements of the future! Accel Synchro! Forge yourself from the bleeding edge in a crimson flash! Level 9, Crystron Phoenix!"
"Phoenix's effect! If it's synchro summoned, I banish all spells and traps from your field and graveyard!"
"When Phoenix is destroyed, I can summon back another monster from my graveyard."
"My tactics have led me to completely outsmart you! I activate the trap card, Linear Equation Cannon!"
"The conditions are just right, so I can shuffle your cards into your deck!"

Crystron Ametrix
“1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can change all face-up Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls to Defense Position. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can target 1 ‘Crystron’ monster in your Graveyard, except a Synchro Monster; Special Summon it.”

Crystron Ametrix ———————————————— 1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can change all face-up Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls to Defense Position. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can target 1 "Crystron" monster in your Graveyard, except a Synchro Monster; Special Summon it. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Invasion: Vengeance (INOV-EN045)
Crystron is an archetype heavily focused arround Synchro Summon, to the point that covers most setups and options arround them. From cheap Synchro Monsters to some worth the higher investment, Crystron has so many opportunities to Synchro Summon that they can even do so during the opponent's turn. This is combined with some of their members trading themselves to look for resources, and followed with Graveyard effects Crystron won't take any breaks to bring out their lead monsters at any moment they are needed.
"Crystron Ametrix" is a good example of how the archetype can respond opponent's actions simply with its own arrival. When Synchro Summoned "Ametrix" forces all opponent's Special Summoned monsters to go into Defense Position, which will become quite a prevalent effect given the current situation of the game. If a Synchro Summoned "Ametrix" is destroyed then will replace itself with another Crystron from our Graveyard, and while is unable to target Synchro Monsters is still a solid effect given the archetype's nature. Given Crystrons can Synchro Summon almost during any turn, "Ametrix" main role is crowd control towards the opposite field as follows with either its own defeat or even be used as material for other setups we can perform at the moment.
With a Level 5 and the strategy arround Crystrons, there are plenty of opportunities to summon "Ametrix" at the perfect moment. Most of the time will be achieved by the archetype's Tuners using their effects during the opponent's turn. "Crystron Citree" reviving a material from our Graveyard, "Crystron Quan" using a monster from our hand, or "Crystron Rion" retrieving a banished monster. Combined these effects with "Ametrix" and the other Synchro Monsters' revival effects when defeated, as is quite possible to follow a Synchro Summon with another if the opponent constantly defeats our monsters during their turn. Together with non-Tuner Crystrons ability to replace themselves with new cards and support outside the archetype like "Scrap Recycler", it won't take too long to prepare the arrival "Ametrix" either in our turn of the opponent's. Keep on mind that "Ametrix" and the other Synchro Crystrons aren't limited on using materials provided by the archetype, so we can either play them outside their own build or mix further methods by the assistance of monsters like "Junk Synchron" or "Speedroid Taketomborg" among many others.
The main effect of "Ametrix" might seem simple, yet becomes quite effective given the liberties arround its archetype to Synchro Summon. With the high prevalence of Special Summons nowadays, "Ametrix" has the potential to rearrange entire fields just by its mere arrival. Obviously there will be exceptions like Link Monsters becoming unaffected, but nonetheless stalling an entire turn with Crystron Tuners bringing "Ametrix" as soon the opponent's Battle Phase begins makes it worth the risk of its own defeat. And even if that happens, as pointed out "Ametrix" can revive the archetype's Tuners to follow with a new Synchro Summon on the spot. To further improve its performance "Crystron Impact" will completely erase the opponent's monsters' DEF as well becoming a defensive option against non-destructive threats. Don't miss the opportunity to use "Ametrix" itself as material, as even though the Extra Monster Zone slightly limits their options it won't be much of an issue with the help of the Synchro Monsters' revival effects as well "Crystron Needlefiber" as their lead Link Monster.
"Crystron Ametrix" shouldn't be underestimated for not being as devastating as other Synchro Monsters, as is a quite responsive creature thanks to the archetype that belongs to. With Crystron Tuners summoning "Ametrix" at any moment and many other options further assuring its arrival, "Ametrix" has plenty of chances to shut down entire Battle Phases thanks to the high prevalence of Special Summons in many Decks. While might struggle against Link Monsters and a few other exceptions, a defeated "Ametrix" will follow with a revived Crystron to once again Synchro Summon during that turn. If anything the build might prioritize other Synchro Summons like "Crystron Quariongandrax" or even outside their own theme like "White Aura Whale". But with its easy availability and opportunity to stop Battle Phases as soon they start, "Ametrix" is as reliable as any other Synchro Monster the archetype can pull out.
Personal Rating: A-
+ Changes all opponent's Special Summoned monsters to Defense Position when Synchro Summoned + Revives a non-Synchro Crystron when destroyed if was Synchro Summoned + Very easy to summon even during the opponent's turn
- Ineffective against Link Monsters and a few other monsters - The archetype might prioritize other Synchro Monsters

Crystron Citree ———————————————— During your opponent's Main Phase or Battle Phase: You can target 1 non-Tuner monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it, but it has its effects negated (if any), and if you do, immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro Summon 1 Machine-Type Synchro Monster using only that monster and this card (this is a Quick Effect). These Synchro Materials are banished instead of being sent to the Graveyard. You can only use this effect of "Crystron Citree" once per turn. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Invasion: Vengeance (INOV-EN016)
Crystron might not seem a very different build compared to other strategies, but their Tuners is what truly gives them uniqueness. With abilities activated during the opponent's turn, a Crystron Deck can constantly Synchro Summon during any player's turn to the point of achieving expensive monsters in no time. Along methods to recycle their Tuners no matter their location, the archetype will achieve their big summons in no time as well using them in response of opponent's actions.
"Crystron Citree" might be the most recurrent member of its archetype, as shares a similar ability from many other recurring Tuners in other builds. During the opponent's turn, "Citree" can revive a non-Tuner monster in our Graveyard with its effects negated to immediately follow with a Machine-Type Synchro Summon. "Citree" and the target material might banish themselves afterwards, but given the popular abuse of the Graveyard in current strategies gives this Crystron a pool of monsters to revive during the opponent's turn. Combined with archetype options and other we could mix along with, "Citree" will become the lead material for most of our Synchro Summons.
In an archetype so focused on its Synchro Summons, is obvious that they will provide sufficient methods to obtain "Citree" in no time. Non-Tuners Crystrons shares the ability to trade a face-up card (Including themselves) to summon a Tuner from our Deck, with the addition of Graveyard effects such as "Crystron Thystvern" for further searching and "Crystron Prasiortle" summoning "Citree" from our hand. With the addition of the Extra Monster Zone was inevitable the Link Monster support, with "Crystron Needlefiber" allowing us to summon "Citree" as soon is Link Summoned and further assist our Synchro Summons with its arrows. With further help of cards outside their theme like "Genex Neutron" and "Gear Gigant X", overall we will assure that "Citree" is ready to go from our first turns. When comes to late game there's really nothing to worry about, not only by revival effects like "Crystron Entry" (Also able to summon from our hand) but also "Crystron Impact" able to recover "Citree" once banished by its effect and other causes.
Preparing its effect shouldn't be that difficult given Crystrons can destroy themselves for all sorts of benefits, the other Extra Deck summons we can aim for beforehand, as well options like "Mathematician" allowing us to mill specific monsters from our Deck. But although "Citree" might seem slow compared to Tuners using revival effects during our turn, its purpose is to use its chainable potential along the leading Synchro Monster of this archetype. With the right timing and the proper material(s) in our Graveyard, "Citree" will summon "Crystron Ametrix" to rearrange all Special Summoned monsters on the opposite field, or "Crystron Quandax" so we can follow with an even bigger Synchro Summon. If in company of these monsters or using the shorcut provided by "Crystron Needlefiber", is quite possible for "Citree" go a step further and assist us with the arrival of lead monsters like "Crystron Phoenix" and "Crystron Quariongandrax". Most Crystron Synchro Monsters also shares the effect to revive a monster from our Graveyard after their defeat, so if "Citree" is in there we can repeat the process right away. Otherwise, the previously mentioned "Crystron Impact" and other methods to retrieve banished monsters will allow us to recover "Citree" in no time and continue with our Synchro Summons. Keep on mind that "Citree" only restricts Synchro Summons arround Machines, so we can expand our options with off-theme creatures like "Hi-Speedroid Chanbara" and "Ally of Justice Catastor". Additionaly, don't hesitate on Synchro Summoning with "Citree" by common means given the various opportunities to recover it during any player's turn.
Graveyard setups are popular because cards like "Crystron Citree" exist, easily becoming the lead card of its own archetype thanks to the various resources involving it. With Crystrons' ability to destroy cards or themselves for all sorts of effects as well other methods to pile monsters in our Graveyard, "Citree" will obtain plenty of materials to work along during the opponent's turn. Not only that, but while similar monsters will deal with their demerits, "Citree" not only has a big pool of Machine Synchro Monsters outside Crystron, but also options to assure its retrieval once banished. Truly the main issue is if we overextend with Crystrons' Graveyard effects when banished as a cost, but overall "Citree" is yet another example of a material being the true lead monster of a whole archetype as soon a few preparatives are set.
Personal Rating: A+
+ Revives a monster during the opponent's turn to follow with a Machine Synchro Summon + Greatly supported including options to recover it once banished + Chainable to work along the effects of Crystron Synchro Monsters and others
- Might seem slow compared to similar Tuners - Don't overdo it with Crystron's banished effects from the Graveyard to assure its abilities
