I know itâs August but the holidays feel fast approaching and with that my mind turns to this event.
I know the Once Upon a Time and Captain Swan fandom has dwindled over the years and with that events have begun to disappear. This being one of the last standing.
I donât wish to see the event go but I donât know if I have it in me to run this event or even if there is any more willing participants.
If there is interest in this event maybe I can do one last year or if anyone is available to co run it/run it in my stead.
PLEASE INTERACT WITH THIS POST AND BOOST IT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS EVENT CONTINUE! REBLOG COMMENT ADD TAGS! LIKES MEAN NOTHING BECAUSE I CANT DETERMINE MEANING BEHIND THEM!

My Secret Santa gift for @mie779

Merry Christmas @mie779 - I'm your Secret Santa this year! I was very excited to get your name and I hope you like the story and pic set I created for you. I tried to work in some of your favorite things. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
Many thanks to @hookedmom who took time out from a busy holiday season to beta for me.
With this story, I can cross off one square on my Winter Bingo Board. Stories in that collection can be found here

Story Summary: An empty seat at an elementary school Christmas pageant creates an opportunity for Killian Jones to meet Emma Swan. As they chat between songs, they feel drawn to each other, but Killian has to be brave enough to ask Emma outâŚand she has to be brave enough to accept.Â

âPardon me, lass. Is that seat taken?â
Emma Swan looked up from the program she had been scanning, to see a man standing in the aisle of the auditorium, looking at her expectantly.
âExcuse me?â she asked.
âI was wondering if you were saving the seat beside you for someone.â
She glanced at the empty seat to her left. âUh, no. Iâm not saving it for anyone.â
After an awkward pause, he asked, âIn that case, would you mind if I sit there?â
âOh, sorry.â She stood up, letting him pass in front of her.
When they were settled in their seats, he said, âThanks very much.â Holding out his hand, he added, âKillian Jones.â
âEmma Swan,â she responded, shaking his hand. âItâs nice to meet you. I donât think Iâve seen you around Storybrooke before.â
âI live in Portland. I visit from time to time, and stay at my brother Liamâs house when I do. Iâm here to watch his and Elsaâs daughters. Theyâre the two cutest reindeer.â
âMissy and Alice are your nieces? Theyâre in my son Henryâs class. In fact, I think he has a crush on one of them.â
âWhich one?â
She shrugged. âIâm not sure. They both look alike to me.â
âWell,â he chuckled, âthatâs quite common with identical twins.â
She laughed. âYou have a point there.â
âIs your son also a reindeer?â
âI wish,â she sighed. âReindeer are quiet. My son is the little drummer boy. My friend is the music teacher and Iâm pretty sure she cast him in that role intentionallly. Her husband has been dying to buy Henry a drum set ever since he was a toddler, but I keep telling him absolutely not. Of course, once my son got the part, he had to practice, so Mary Margaret sent a snare drum home with him. I can hardly wait until this program is over, so I can get that freaking thing out of my house. I love my kid, but heâs driving me crazy with it!â
Killianâs grin stretched wider across his handsome face. âWell, I can assure you that reindeer are not quiet. At least, not in Alice and Missyâs case.â
âIâm sure having two ten-year-olds in the house can be very loud. I only have one and sometimes I swear heâs trying to split my eardrums.â
âWith his drum,â Killian smirked.
âYouâre hilarious,â Emma groaned sarcastically, rolling her eyes. However, she couldnât help grinning a little at his attempt to make a joke.
âAre you, uh, are you sure Iâm not takingâŚanyoneâs seat?â he asked tentatively.
âIf youâre talking about Henryâs father, he wonât be coming. He lives in New York City with his other family. Henry only gets to see him a couple of times a year.â
âIâm sorry to hear that.â
âDonât be. The less time Henry spends with his dad, the smaller the chance Henry will act like him. After six years, heâs used to taking a back seat to Nealâs other kids.â
She opened the paper she was holding again, scanning the information typed inside. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Killian leaning in slightly to have a look at it, too.
âDidnât they give you a program at the door?â she asked.
âThey were out by the time I got here. I left work as soon as I could, but barely made it. Liam and Elsa werenât expecting me to come tonight, so they didnât save a seat for me.â
Emma swiped across her phone to look at the time. âTheyâre getting started a few minutes late. Thatâs typical for Mary Margaret because she wants everything to be perfect. Sheâs probably still gluing cotton balls onto Santaâs beard.â Scooting over in her seat a couple of inches, she held the program between them. âIâll share with you. Looks like Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer is the next-to-last song.â
Killian perused the offered page. âYour drummer boy looks to be the star of the third song.â
âPa-rum-pa-pum-pum,â she intoned. He chuckled.
The lights dimmed and Mary Margaret hurried onto the stage as the crowd applauded.
âShow time,â Emma commented, then straightened in her seat to listen as her friend welcomed everyone.
*********
Killian shifted in the cushioned chair and tried to focus on what the lovely, pixie-haired teacher was saying. It wasnât that he didnât want to pay attention; rather, it was the distraction of the beautiful woman to his right which was occupying his mind. Through no fault of her own, she was making it very difficult for him to concentrate on the acknowledgements of all of the people responsible for helping with the elementary school Christmas pageant.
When she looked up at him after he inquired about the empty seat beside her, he was instantly struck by her beauty. It had been a long time since he gave any woman a second glance. Having his heart broken three years before caused him to swear off of women for good, and he stuck to it.
He may have to rethink that.
Being intrigued by her looks was one thing, but when she began conversing with him, he was struck by how easy it was to talk to her. She was witty and sarcastic, and put him at ease immediately.
When he verified that he wasnât taking anyoneâs seat, it was also his subtle way of asking if she was in a relationship. He had discreetly checked her ring finger and saw it was bare, but wanted further assurance. He was probably assuming too much by thinking her answer about her ex was proof she was indeed single, because she could be dating someone else. But if she was, that man would surely show up to her sonâs Christmas pageant, wouldnât he?
As crazy as it sounded, after knowing her for all of five minutes, Killian was seriously thinking of asking her out.
*********
Emma could feel the nearness of the man beside her and, shockingly enough, she didnât mind at all. In fact, she actually found herself leaning toward him.
Her friend Elsa mentioned her brother-in-law to Emma several times, but she had never met him or seen a picture of him. If she had, she definitely would have remembered, because the man was ridiculously handsome. She probably seemed like an idiot when he asked about the empty seat beside her and she didnât tell him he could sit there right away. She was simply gobsmacked when she looked up at him and had trouble getting her mind to work.
Fortunately, once he sat down, words were easier and the conversation she had with him was very enjoyable. She found herself wishing he had gotten there sooner, so they could have had more time to chat before the pageant began. It had been quite a while since she actually wanted more time to talk to a man. Usually, she wanted them to shut up and leave her alone.
Finding someone to date in Storybrooke was not an easy feat. Not that she put much effort into it. After what she went through with Neal, she swore off dating altogether. He not only broke her heart by leaving her for another woman, he told her he never loved her in the first place and the only reason he stayed with her as long as he did was because she was careless enough to get pregnant. He didnât seem to realize that he had a little something to do with her ending up in that condition, too. She didnât regret it, though. Henry was the best thing that ever happened to her. She had been telling herself for years that she loved her kid and he was the only male she needed in her life.
How absurd was it for her to want a chance to get better acquainted with Killian Jones so soon after meeting him?
*********
Killianâs whirlpool of thoughts was interrupted when music began playing and the third and fourth grade students trooped onto the stage to stand on the risers, all of them dressed in homemade costumes for their various roles.
Leaning over, he quietly asked, âWhich one is Henry?â
Emma pointed. âThe one with the jeans chopped off at the knees, white shirt and a vest made out of a cut up paper bag. Real professional, huh? He reminded me last night that he needed a costume, so itâs the best I could do.â
âI think itâs very effective. Heâs supposed to be a poor boy, right?â
They fell silent when a little girl dressed as Mrs. Claus stepped to the microphone to introduce the first song. As Killian tried to lay his elbow on the arm rest, he bumped Emmaâs, which was already there.
âSorry, Love,â he whispered, tucking his arm against his side.
âWe can share,â she whispered back, scooting her arm over to give him some room. Under normal circumstances, he would have passed on the offer, but he quite liked how it felt to touch her. Once their elbows were both on the arm rest, he turned his attention back to the stage, where the students dressed as elves were lining up to lead the song Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas, while Mary Margaret was taking her seat behind the piano.
âYou were right,â Emma muttered. âYour nieces are the cutest reindeer.â
âOf course they are. They take after their uncle,â he cheeked.
Mary Margaret launched into the accompaniment before Emma could reply.
Frosty the Snowman followed, with students dressed as snow people spinning and dancing on the stage. One snowman twirled himself dizzy and almost fell off of the stage. Luckily, David was quick on his feet, catching the little boy and preventing disaster.
âI can guarantee Iâll hear about what a hero he was for days from Mary Margaret,â Emma remarked as they clapped at the end of the song.
âYour boy is up next,â Killian reminded her.
âOh, yeah,â she said, scrambling to pull her phone out of her purse.
âWould you like me to take the video so you can sit back and enjoy his performance?â
She looked at him. âYou wouldnât mind?â
âNot at all. It would be my pleasure.â
Emma quickly unlocked her phone, pulled up the camera app and set it to video. âYou know how to do this, right?â
He chuckled as he took it from her hands. âDonât worry, Swan. Iâm a twenty-first century man, so I do know a fair amount about technology.â
Henry took his place behind the snare drum and smiled widely at his mom. However, once the song started, he was all business, taking his drum solo very seriously. After filming the entire group of students during the first verse, Killian zoomed in on Henry for the rest of the song, capturing his solemn expression as he struck the drum in perfect rhythm.
At the conclusion of the song, Killian turned the phone toward Emma, who was clapping loudly and shouting, âWay to go, kid!â Through the lens, Killian could see the sheen of proud tears in her eyes. He didnât stop filming until she turned to him to get her device back.
âThank you,â she said. âIâm glad I could enjoy it without having to watch him through my phone screen.â
âNo problem,â he assured her. âHe did a wonderful job. He just might have a future as a drummer in a band.â
âI hope heâs out on his own by then if he does. I donât think I could handle all of the practicing.â
Killian chuckled and settled back in his seat to enjoy the next two songs. When it was time for the reindeer to take their place at the front of the stage, he dug his own phone out of the front pocket of his jeans.
âHere, Iâll return the favor,â Emma said, reaching for the phone. âEnjoy your niecesâ performance.â
âThanks, Love,â he said gratefully.
The song went well until one of the twins accidentally stepped on the other oneâs foot, who then pushed the unwitting culprit. A short shoving match ensued between the two of them, until Mary Margaret snapped her fingers at them with one hand, while continuing to play the piano with the other.
Killian scanned the crowd to find his brother and sister-in-law. Liam was trying, and failing, to keep a grin off of his face, while Elsa scowled ferociously at her rowdy daughters.
The rest of the song went on without further incident. When Emma handed his phone back, Killian remarked, âI think the girls might be in for it after this is over.â
âYeah, Elsa looks pretty peeved.â
âDo you know her?â
âWe got to know each other through the PTO, and weâve become pretty good friends.â
âPTO?â he questioned.
âParent-teacher organization. We do fundraisers to give the school and staff extra things the district doesnât provide. We also sponsor fun events for students and their parents, like skating parties and bingo nights.â
âIt sounds very beneficial,â Killian commented.
Mary Margaret announced that the final song was Silent Night and after the students sang it through once, the audience was encouraged to join in.
The children, who had just sung Rudolph loudly and exuberantly, now sang the beloved carol with great reverence. A hush fell over the crowd as they listened to the sweet voices. Killian turned his eyes toward Emma and saw her swallow hard, clearly trying to keep her emotions in check. He was a little emotional himself and he didnât even have a child on the stage.
Killian added his rich baritone the second time through. He could hear Emmaâs voice and wasnât at all surprised that it was as lovely as the lady herself.
As the final notes faded away, she turned to look at him. He smiled and winked, beginning to clap with the rest of the audience. When the ovation was over, she quickly collected her coat and purse. âI have to go get Henry from his classroom. IâŚit was nice meeting you, Killian. Maybe weâll see each other the next time you come to town.â
He looked stunned. âAye, Swan, perhaps we will.â
With a final wave, she was gone, swallowed up by the crowd.
*********
As he watched her walk away, Killian felt like kicking himself. He just let her go, without asking her out or even requesting her phone number. He was sure he wasnât the only one who felt the connection between the two of them, but now it was too late to act on it.
She did say she was Elsaâs friend, so perhaps he could get Emmaâs information from his sister-in-law. That was less than ideal, but it might be his only option.
He sighed, grabbed his coat from the chair and set off to locate his family.
*********
Emma hated leaving the way she did, but she knew Henry would be waiting for her. Telling her son how proud she was of him, trumped hanging around to talk to Killian some more. She truly hoped she would run into him again, sometime.
She wished she would have been bold enough to ask him for his phone number. Of course, she could always get it from Elsa, but that would mean telling her friend she was interested in her brother-in-law. Emma didnât really want to open that can of worms.
So as she fought her way through the crowd, disappointment rose up within her because she knew she was leaving behind the first guy who drew her interest in a very long time.
*********
âWhereâs Elsa?â Killian asked, once he found Liam still occupying the seat he sat in during the performance.
âShe went to get the girls. I offered, but she insisted. She may knock their heads together after their antics on stage.â
Killian laughed. âNever a dull moment with those two, is there?â
âNot a single one. Thanks for coming, brother,â Liam said, standing up to clap Killian on the shoulder.
âI wouldnât have missed it for the world. I told Missy and Alice I would try to make it and I didnât want to let them down.â
âYouâre a good uncle.â
âThe best,â Killian smirked. Then his face took on a serious expression. âMay I ask you something?â
âSure. Whatâs on your mind?â
âUhâŚhow well do you knowâŚEmma Swan?â
Liamâs brows raised. âShe and Elsa are good friends, so I know her pretty well. Why do you ask?â
Killian scratched behind his ear. âI, umâŚI sat beside her this evening. I never met her before, but IâŚsheâŚshe seems very nice.â
Liam studied his brother for several moments. âAre you interested in her?â he queried.
His brother shrugged. âI justâŚwe had a good conversation and I thought aboutâŚâ
When he didnât continue, Liam supplied, âAsking her out?â
Killian shrugged again. âI know. Itâs a stupid idea. I mean, I just met her and we only talked for a few minutes, butâŚâ
Liam stepped in front of him, placing both hands on his brotherâs shoulders. âKillian, I know you had a rough go of it with Milah, but you canât go through life never taking a chance again.â
âEmma probably wouldnât acceptâŚâ
âYou wonât know unless you try.â
âIt doesnât matter anyway. She went to collect her son and then theyâll leave.â
âThen weâll go find her before they do.â
âLiamâŚâ
âKillian, a man unwilling to fight for what he wants, deserves what he gets.â
Killian considered his brotherâs words for a few seconds. âYouâre right. Letâs go see if sheâs still here.â
The pair took off through the nearly empty auditorium. Liam led Killian down one hallway, then nearly ran into Elsa and the girls when they turned the corner.
âThere are my lovely ladies,â Liam said, kissing first one of his daughters on the head, then the other. âGood job, my little reindeer.â Seeing the stern look Elsa was giving him, he added, âBut perhaps next time you shouldnât stand right next to each other.â
âIt was Missyâs fault,â Alice began, before being cut off by her mother.
âIâve already talked to you about this,â Elsa reprimanded. âYou were both at fault and tomorrow, you will both apologize to Mrs. Nolan.â
âYes, maâam,â they chorused. Then they rushed to get a hug from their uncle.
âYou came!â Alice cried.
âTold you he would,â Missy said. âUncle Killy would never let us down, would you?â
âI canât promise that I never will, but Iâll try my very best not to,â he assured them, one arm wrapped around each twin.
Liam pulled Elsa aside. âDid you see Emma?â he asked.
âYes, she was picking up Henry at the same time I was getting the girls,â his wife answered. âWhy?â
Lowering his voice so their daughters wouldnât hear, he said, âKillian sat beside her during the performance and they seemed to hit it off. He was hoping to catch her before she left and ask her out.â
Elsaâs expression went from very excited to downcast. âIâm afraid theyâre gone already.â
Killian caught what she said and his heart sank. He knew he missed his chance when he let her walk away.
Elsa saw the look on her brother-in-lawâs face. âGirls, hug your uncle and tell him goodbye. Iâm sure he needs to start back to Portland soon.â
Missy and Alice took turns getting big bear hugs from Killian, then Liam bid him goodbye and took the girls to the car, clearly aware that his wife wanted to talk to his brother alone.
Killian gave Elsa a questioning look. âWhat do you have up your sleeve?â
âDo you think Emma was attracted to you?â
He shrugged slightly. âI canât say for sure, but we talked quite a bit and she seemed to like me.â
âThe fact that she enjoyed talking to you leads me to believe she does. I love Emma, but she can be a bit prickly. I think you should ask her out.â
âDid you miss the part when you said she already left?â
âIâm going to give you her address, smart guy. Then you can go to her house.â
âPerhaps you should just give me her phone number instead.â
âYou will not ask her out over the phone,â Elsa commanded. âThatâs too impersonal.â
Killian nodded. âI see your point.â Pulling out his phone, he brought up Google Maps and typed in the address Elsa read from her contacts list. âItâs only a five minute drive.â
âYes it is, which gives you less time to change your mind.â She gave him a quick hug and kiss on the cheek. âNow get going. Call us when youâre on the way home and let us know what happened.â
âYes, maâam,â he said, saluting smartly. When she rolled her eyes at him, he grew serious. âThank you, Elsa.â
âYouâre welcome. Now go turn on your charm.â
*********
Ten minutes later, Killian pulled up in front of the small, unassuming house where the GPS led him. After cutting the engine, he drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, contemplating whether or not he should go through with his plan.
His phone buzzed with an incoming text.
Liam: Remember what I told you. Donât lose your nerve.
Killian shook his head and snorted out a laugh. Sometimes it was almost scary how well his brother knew him.
âThe worst that can happen is she turns me down. I can survive that, right?â he muttered to himself. âWell, I guess weâll find out.â
He unbuckled his seatbelt, threw open his car door and climbed out. Then he walked up the short sidewalk, lined with lighted plastic candy canes. After knocking on the front door, he nervously brushed one hand through his hair, then tugged at the bottom of his black leather jacket.
The door swung open and he found himself looking down at the little drummer boy, still dressed in his cut off jeans and white shirt, sans the paper bag vest. They looked at each other for a couple of seconds, then Henry turned and yelled, âMom! Some guy is here!â
âHenry, what have I told you about answering theâŚâ Emmaâs words cut off suddenly when she came into view. âKillian?â she questioned disbelievingly.
âUh, hi. I, umâŚI hope you donât mind me stopping by,â he stammered.
She looked flabbergasted. âHow did you know where I live?â
âElsa gave me your address. I hope that was okay.â
Henry looked back and forth between the two adults. âDo you mean Mrs. Jones? Aliceâs mom?â
âAnd Missyâs,â Emma added distractedly.
âHow do you know Mrs. Jones?â Henry asked.
âKillianâs brother Liam is Elsaâs husband,â Emma explained. âHenry, please go turn the burner off under the hot cocoa so it wonât burn.â
âIf itâs ready, can I pour someâŚâ
âAbsolutely not. Do not touch the pan or anything else; just the knob for the burner.â
âBut IâŚâ
She put her arm around his shoulders. âAfter you turn off the stove, why donât you go ahead and put your pajamas on. Just give me a couple of minutes to speak to Mr. Jones, okay?â
âYou did a fine job on your drum solo tonight, lad,â Killian said.
Henryâs face brightened. âDo ya really think so?â
âAye. You were the star of the show.â
A wide grin split the boyâs face. âThanks! I practiced a lot!â
âYour mother told me you did. Practice makes perfect, they say.â
âI guess so. We can be in band next year and I want to play percussion.â
Killian snuck a glance at Emma, who closed her eyes and shook her head slightly. With difficulty, he kept from laughing, before answering, âIâm sure youâll enjoy that.â
âAt least one of us will,â Emma mumbled, before reminding Henry about turning off the stove.
âBye, Mr. Jones. Merry Christmas!â Henry shouted on his way out of the room.
âMerry Christmas to you, lad.â
âSo, um, not to sound rude, but why are you here?â Emma asked as soon as they were alone.
He tried not to fidget as he thought of what to say. âIâŚI really enjoyed talking to you this evening.â
âI enjoyed talking to you, too.â
Encouraged, the corner of his mouth quirked up. âThatâs good to hear. So, I was wondering ifâŚif you would consider going out with me.â
âOn a date?â she asked, brows shooting up.
âAye, thatâs the idea.â
âI canâtâŚâ
Killian felt his stomach drop.
â...even remember the last time I went on a date.â
âPerhaps we should remedy that,â he suggested hopefully.
Emma pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, chewing on it in contemplation. âI donât knowâŚâ
âGo out with him, Mom!â Henry yelled from the kitchen.
âReally, kid?â Emma said, clearly exasperated.
Henry poked his head around the door frame. âI like him.â
âWerenât you told to put your pajamas on?â
âI will. I just accidentally heard what Mr. Jones said.â
Emma crossed her arms and gave him a patented âmom lookâ. âAccidentally, huh?â
He shrugged. âI have good hearing.â
âOnly when you want to have it,â she stated. âNow, go do as you were told.â
âOkay,â he sighed, trudging down the hallway to his room.
She turned back to Killian, dropping her arms to her sides. âLooks like you have my kidâs approval.â
He studied her for a few seconds. âWhat about you, Emma? Do I have your approval, too? Elsa said she would be happy to watch Henry for you if we go out.â
She hesitated, then lifted her chin decisively. âYes, Killian. I would love to go out with you.â
*********
One year laterâŚ
Killian followed Emma down the aisle of the auditorium and grinned when he realized what seats she chose. After sitting down, he draped his arm around her shoulders and leaned over to murmur in her ear, âThese seats seem familiar, Love.â
She snuggled against his side. âTheyâre very special, because this is where I met the love of my life.â
âWhat a coincidence,â he teased. âThis is where I met mine, too.â
Elsa and Liam slid into the seats in front of them. âHello, lovebirds,â Elsa grinned.
âDonât encourage them,â Liam cautioned. âI already have to witness far too much PDA from those two.â
âYou donât have to watch, you know,â Killian said, lightly whacking the back of Liamâs head.
âBoth of you behave,â Elsa said, as Emma giggled.
âSpeaking of behaving,â Killian began, âdo you think your daughters will make it through the concert without assaulting each other this year?â
âI wouldnât bet on it,â Liam said. âI caught Missy trying to hit her sister over the head with her flute the other day.â
âBe happy it wasnât the other way around,â Emma commented. âAlice could do some serious damage with her saxophone.â
They were still laughing when the fifth grade band shuffled onto the stage in all their Christmas finery, instruments held proudly in front of them. Emma and Killian immediately spotted Henry taking his place behind the snare drum. He smiled and gave them a quick wave before picking up his drumsticks.
âHe looks so grown up,â Emma said quietly.
âYour little drummer boy isnât very little anymore,â Killian observed fondly. He and Henry had a very close relationship and he loved the boy as his own.
âA lot has changed in the past year,â she sighed happily.
âAye, Love. Itâs been phenomenal in every way.â
Mary Margaret, who also instructed the fifth grade band along with teaching elementary music, walked out onto the stage, preparing to introduce their first song.
Emma settled against Killianâs side to enjoy the concert. A year ago, sitting in these very seats, neither of them could ever have imagined what that first meeting would mean to them.
As the band began playing Jingle Bells, Killian pulled Emma a little closer. His chest swelled with pride watching Henry concentrating on his music, as he beat out the rhythm on the drum. This year, Emma hadnât had to endure his incessant practicing alone, since Killian moved in with them just before Thanksgiving.
Emma saw Killian glancing at his watch once the third and final song ended. âAre you anxious to leave? You know we still have to sit through the sixth grade and junior high bands, donât you?â
He rubbed the back of his neck. âIâm aware. I was just trying to gauge what time it will be over.â
âIâd say the concert will last about an hour,â Liam threw over his shoulder.
Killian slumped a bit in his chair. Then he caught sight of Henry, who was sitting in a reserved section to their right with the rest of the fifth grade band. The boy beamed at him and gave him a thumbs up. Killian winked and returned his smile.
Last year, the evening of Henryâs concert ended with Killian asking Emma out on their first date. This year, he had a different question to ask when they got home, one for which Henry had already given his approval.
He hoped her answer would be the same as last year. If so, they would be sitting in these seats next year as husband and wife.
Kissing her temple, Killian impatiently waited for the sixth grade band to begin playing. He intertwined their fingers, imagining how her hand would look with the diamond engagement ring on it. When she turned her face up to look at him, love shining in her eyes, he knew the beauty of the diamond would pale in comparison to the lady wearing it.
*********
Liamâs estimate for the length of the concert was right on the nose. When they finally walked out of the auditorium, light snow was falling. The conversation in the car on the way home was warm and playful. Henry laughed about the sixth grade percussionist who dropped one of the cymbals in the middle of a song, and expressed his hope that when he got older, he would be the one to make the whip sound for Sleigh Ride.
âLord, help us through seven more years of band,â Emma murmured under her breath, causing Killian to laugh, despite the nerves that were knotting his stomach.
As soon as they got home, Henry went into the kitchen to get the ingredients out for hot cocoa, dubbing it a tradition after the Christmas concert.
âIs it a tradition if this is only the second time we did it?â Emma asked.
âI donât know,â Killian answered, âbut I do know of another tradition thatâs been around much longer.â He pointed at the top of the doorway between the living room and kitchen.
âWhen did you put mistletoe up there?â she asked, wrapping her arms around his neck.
âThis evening while you were getting dressed for the concert.â
âYouâre very sneaky,â she said, leaning in until her lips were just a fraction of an inch away from his.
âAnd you love me for it,â he grinned.
âMmhmm,â she hummed before kissing him.
âPre-teen boy coming through,â Henry announced, squeezing past them. âIâm going to put my pajamas on. Please be done making out by the time I get back.â
Emma and Killian laughed into their kiss. âI think weâre scarring him for life,â he quipped.
âThatâs what parents are for,â she replied.
Killian pulled back to look at her. âYou consider me to be his parent?â
âYouâre more of a father to him than Neal has ever been.â
He surged forward to kiss her again. When it finally ended, he asked, âDo you think Henry regards me that way, too?â
âIâm sure he does.â
âDoes what?â Henry asked, re-entering the room, now dressed in plaid Christmas pajamas.
âDo you think of Killian as one of your parents?â Emma asked.
âWell, duh,â he stated matter-of-factly. âCan we make hot chocolate now?â
Emma tried to give Killian a look that said I told you so, but he was gazing at Henry with a sense of wonder over the boyâs declaration.
Once the cocoa was gone and Henry was off to bed, Killian and Emma lay together on the sofa. The living room was lit only by the gas fireplace and the lights from the Christmas tree, while Christmas music played softly.
âThis is nice,â she sighed.
He hummed in agreement, stroking his hand up and down her back. His thoughts were preoccupied with the perfect way to propose, so he almost missed what she said next.
âMarry me, Killian.â
His hand on her back stilled as his mind registered what she just said. âWh-what?â
She pushed up on her elbows to look into his face. âMarry me.â
âSwan, youâre depriving me of a dashing proposal!â he protested.
She cocked her head, studying him. âAre you serious?â
He slid out from under her to kneel on the floor in front of the couch, reaching into the pocket of his sleep pants to retrieve the ring and holding it up for her to see.
Her eyes widened as she swung her feet down to the floor. âOh. My. God. You really were going to propose, werenât you?â
âAye.â
âAre you mad at me?â
âMad? Why would I be mad? Since you asked me first, Iâm pretty sure I know what your answer is going to be,â he chuckled.
âYou still have to ask. Thatâs the rule.â
âWhose rule?â
âMine. Now, letâs hear that dashing proposal.â
He grinned, then cleared his throat. âEmma, you and Henry have changed my life in every way possible. I never knew happiness like this even existed, let alone that it would happen to me. There arenât enough words in this world to express how much I love you, but right now, thereâs only one word I need to hear in response to this question - Emma Swan, will you marry me?â
Tears filled her eyes when she opened her mouth to answer, but emotion clogged her throat, so she nodded emphatically and threw her arms around him. As he held her tight, kissing her and murmuring words of love, she finally found her voice. âYes, Killian, I will marry you! I love you so much!â
She pulled away, wiping at her eyes. âHenry and I are very lucky to have you in our lives. I know Iâm speaking for him too when I say we want you to be part of our family forever.â Framing his face with her hands, she leaned in to kiss him again.
âDo you want the ring?â he asked against her lips.
She giggled and sat back, extending her left hand to him. He slid the ring into place and kissed her knuckle above it.
âItâs perfect,â she breathed.
âYou are perfect, my love.â
âSays the man who complains when I leave wet towels on the floor,â she teased.
âWellâŚnearly perfect,â he grinned.
She held her hand up to admire the ring, the lights of the Christmas tree making the diamond glitter. âWeâre engaged,â she said, awestruck.
âMmhmm. Who would have thought that a little drummer boy and two feuding reindeer would bring us together and give us a happy ending?â
Her eyes met his, laughter and love dancing in them. âBest night of my life, hands down. Until today,â she amended.
Kissing the tip of her nose, he whispered, âHappy Christmas, wife-to-be.â
âMerry Christmas, husband-to-be.â
He stood up and took her hand to help her to her feet. Then they went to their bedroom to share the best gift of all - the love they had for each other.
*********
My heartfelt wishes for all of you to have a blessed and memorable Christmas!

Merry Christmas @colinoeyebrows !
I'm your Secret Santa for @cssecretsanta2020 this year! I was very excited to get your name, as it was just recently when we had our introduction and conversation on IG đ I hope you like the edit I created for you! I tried to combine scenes and outfits that you like and make coloring with shades of your favorite color. I had to make this post again because of tumblr glitch (it just cut out quite long pert of this edit, and I don't know why it happened), but now it's complete here)

This event will again not be taking place this year.
I am focusing on my, and possibly the, last year of Captain Swan Secret Santa. Which does currently have sign ups live right now. You can find that post HERE
But I want to make it clear though this event has only happened one year this event is not abandoned. The one year it did happen it was very fun and I enjoyed running it. I do hope that this event can run next year maybe we can even do a Christmas in July gift exchange so we don't have to wait for the winter season.

santa here again! đ§đťâđ i totally get what you mean, i think watching the build up in season three just followed by them figuring out their relationship and all the domesticity is just too good âŁď¸ i saw you also liked aziraphale/crowley and got super excited bc theyâre one of my favorite ships too! and what do you like reading? oh and iâve always wanted to try bookbinding so that is just amazing ⨠my next question is: do you have a favorite captain swan season/scene/arc?
Hi!! Yes Aziriphale and Crowley are perfect and I love them (I am unwell thinking about the Final Fifteen Minutes). I tend to read a lot of fantasy and contemporary fiction, although Iâm starting to get a bit more into memoir and essay collections. The best books Iâve read recently are This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone and In The Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado, and some of my all-time favourites are The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green, Beartown by Fredrik Backman, and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I think I would have to go with Season 3 for favourite season. Specifically the Neverland arc was my favourite storyline that Emma and Killian were both in, but 3B had some of my favourite captain swan moments (I feel like this is an underrated one but I really love the moment in the last episode before the 2 part finale where theyâre in the hospital and he thanks her for saving his life and itâs just like really clear that he thought she might let him die rather than risk her magic and saving the rest of her family but that wasnât even a possibility in her mind) I also like the idea of them hanging out together at Grannys a lot during that time based on that one scene where theyâre just sort of there together when itâs clearly closed and Emmaâs practicing magic, and Iâm just assuming he must also be staying at a room there (iâve thought about it a lot and this is the only thing that makes sense to me for where heâs staying. Literally Iâve spent way too much time wondering where this man sleeps at night during 3B)
Also the time travel eps are hands down my favourite ouat episodes iâve seen them so many times and I love their scenes in those too!

Ho Ho Ho! It's your Secret Santa!
Season 3, with canon divergent/compliant with a good helping of angst and hurt/comfort? Sounds like you have some excellent taste there, my dear. đ
I hear you on the season 5 whump! They fed us well that season, didn't they?
My first question for you: What is one moment you wish we had gotten? (in season 3, since it's your fav. or a different season, if applicable)
Or, what is one moment you wish had more fic written about it? (ex: do you want more fics of Emma leaving him on the beanstalk? or more that focus on the downtime between getting back from Neverland and having to leave Storybrooke? do you want more fics of him finding her in New York? maybe a bit more focus on his time in the Underworld?) I'd love to know about it!
And my last question to you: What is your favourite thing about the holidays? Any favourite movies? Songs? What's your favourite thing to eat this time of year? And anything else about the season that you absolutely love, I want to hear your thoughts!
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!
~Santa đ
^^^^^ Same energy from me rn, buddy :D!!
I eat any canon divergent/compliant fic from seasons 3-5 for breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. I just have an enduring soft spot for season three... the mutual pining! Hook giving up his ship for her! Time travel! Neverland! Even wacky Zelena and her antics! It's just such fun. I was just reading Persuasion by Jane Austen earlier this year, and there were so many pining lines that made me think of Captain Swan, especially season three. I want to do some CS + Jane Austen gif sets next year. đ I think I have a problem. (But I'm in the right fandom, eh? đ)
The season five whump was just a thing of beauty. They really wanted Killian to suffer for his sins, and I loved every second of it. Is it MY fault he looks so good covered in blood and in pain? That makes ME the freak? đ
Oooooh, things I wish we'd gotten more of. đ Excellent question, buddy. Well, I loved season three, as you know, but I guess I wish we'd gotten more moments of friendship between them. I love that they took things slow, that Emma needed that, needed to let herself trust him, and he seemed to just know she needed that time. So he kept flirting with her and making his interest wildly apparent, but he left it up to her to tell him when she was ready. And that is just!!!! So romantic and beautiful and it was so good for Emma's character, how she was able to ease into a friendship and a partnership and a trust relationship with him first. And he just kept taking up more and more room in her heart, until she realized she couldn't live without him and started pushing him away in S4 to protect him đ Who is doing it like them??? No one, that's who
So yeah. 𼰠Obviously I'm very normal about them. I think I would have loved more moments of friendship between the two of them, in the beginning. I loved their trip to the past, because it was just them. And then I loved Hook's scenes with Henry, as well as his scenes with Snowing, and everyone slowly accepting him as an integral part of Emma's life and thus their family. But then!! We have those beautiful, enigmatic six weeks in S4 where Rumple was gone, after Killian's heart was taken (another one of my absolute favorite storylines, wish we'd seen more of that, too). What happened in those beautiful six weeks of peace, where CS just got to date like normal people and fall more in love? I want to see it!! And then I'm always down for more time in the Underworld, too. I think it's an absolute tragedy that Emma was able to just magic all his wounds away. đĽ˛
I do love this time of year. Fall is my favorite, and in Michigan, where I am, it's much too short and our winter days are much too long. But I've been falling more and more in love with winter, the older I get. I love comfy sweater season, and being able to wear a cute beanie on days I don't want to do my hair. đ
Our house is small, but this time of year, with warm lights over our banister and a Christmas tree in the living room and a Christmas village set up over my bookshelves, it doesn't feel small. It feels cozy and warm. We have a woodburning stove too that heats our entire house, so it's dry and toasty warm and smells wonderful. I had my qualms when we moved to this particular house a few years ago, but how cozy it gets in the winter season has made it feel like a home. I love being able to hunker down and not have to go anywhere, and I love the excuse to spend time reading by the fire with a warm drink. đ
I do love picking out presents for people, too, and spending time with family, and eating way too much junk food. (Another reason to be thankful for sweater season lololol) It's all lovely to me. I'm not a summer girly. I like the cold weather. đ
Thanks for visiting me, Santa! I'd love to hear about your favorite CS scenes, and your family holiday traditions! Until we talk again!

Ho Ho Ho Santa is here again!đđ
â¤ď¸đđ
â¤ď¸
Iâve got ideas and ideas scrambling around in my head and just need some few more little details so I can make it perfect!
In terms of Killian, how hurt and tortured do you prefer him to be? Like are you team dead Liam or team alive and well Liam đđ
And for Emma do you like her to have Henry or no Henry?
What are your interests aside from CS? I see from your blog youâre a Bridgerton fan! Any other
- Santa đđ
I'm so excited!!!!
With the amount of love I have for this man, you would think I don't like seeing him hurt and tortured but what can I say?!!! I love angsty!Killian so I'm definitely team dead Liam! haha
I do enjoy Captain Swan with Henry, especially him and Killian but I like it a bit more when she doesn't have Henry!
More like Colin Bridgerton's (+ Polin) fan! haha Besides them, I watch a lot of chinese dramas. I watched once and got addicted! lol You??

This is a great list of questions to get to know your giftee better. And just a reminder Santas do have to send an anonymous message at least once a week. But we always encourage more if you can!
I saw this post going around about how there's not a lot of interaction for @cssecretsanta2020 and also @csgiftexchange [hope it's okay that I tagged you guys] between the gifters and their people. I know there's quite a few people who probably feel the same way, so I've decided to make a Captain Swan Christmas Ask Game. Givers, if your giftee has reblogged this, you know have a few ideas for some questions to ask them (and don't forget to reblog it yourself so your giver can hit you up with some asks)

Good morning, itâs Santa here once more!
Thank you for the good wishes for the holiday- Mrs. Claus and I are checking all the lists twice, and then three times, just to make sure we havenât forgotten anything as the big night draws near. Your gift is in production and whirring along. Thank you for the added suggestions of supporting characters and events to highlight! We will see what the elves and I can do! đ
đź
My hope is to deliver it before the big day - Christmas itself - is over. If a reindeer slips its harness or the sled sustains damage or something unforeseen causes delays, the elves will find a way to let you know!
Hereâs hoping you enjoy these last few days leading up to and celebrating the holiday!! đ
hi santa ⥠thank you so much! no worries about when i'll get my gift, i can absolutely wait and I'll be just as excited :) i'm sure it's perfect already

Hi! It's your Secret Santa again with more questions to make the perfect gift for you!:)
What is your favorite color?
What do you dislike and don't want to see in your gift?
Is there anything you want to tell me about your love to Captain Swan? Maybe some special headcanons?
Hope you're doing well <3
Hey Santa, itâs good to hear from you again. Hope you are having a good weekend.
My fav colour is blue.
What I dislike in a gift is if Regina is a part of it somehowđ she is my least fav character. And I donât particular like when Rumple is involved but not as much as Regina. Other than that I donât think I have any other dislikes.
What I love in Captain Swan is how much they believe in each other, I also love when they are proud of each other and just have soft moments together when they support each other fiercely. There is so much about them that makes them my OTP of OTPs.
Hope you had a great week and are having a good weekend.
Until next time Santa.

You, Me, and Who You Used to Be | CS Fic (CSSS 2024 Gift for BelovedCreation)
Merry Christmas!!
I'm your Santa this year!! :) đđ
Using your prompts of pining, Enchanted Forest, and angst with a happy ending, I give you:
Summary: (CS movie divergence) After getting her parents back on track, Emmaâs magic returns. But before she can conjure a portal home, Killian is abducted. Alone in a world she knows nothing about and with no idea how to find Killian, Emma enlists the only personâor rather, pirateâwho would be as motivated to save Killian as she is. However⌠Killianâs past may just be what destroys the future. CS
AO3
Words (so far): 5k+
NOTE: This is currently only the first chapter of this fic - long story short, the fic I spent weeks on just was not coming together, so I last minute changed to this one. It was an idea I had written the beginning of years ago that I remembered when I was trying to find something to align with the prompts you gave me :D so I knew it would be perfect to write for your gift!! I spent the past week working super hard on this trying to get it finished for you in time, but it was getting so rushed and you do not deserve a rushed gift!! So I decided to give you the first 5k words now, and I'll be updating it with the rest over the coming weeks! :)
Chapter One (under the cut!)
A/N: Story context: This is a canon divergence of the CS movie, which begins right after Emma gets the wand from Rumplestiltskin. (He does not send him to his vault of do-not-touch things in this version tho. Weâll pretend Elsa gets to Storybrooke some other way lol. Iâll also be ignoring Marian, which, the show pretty much did when it just ended up being Zelena anyway lol.Â
Emma smiled at the faintly glowing wand in her fingers, feeling the warmth of the return of her magic, lighting a glow in the vast dining room of Rumplestiltskinâs castle.Â
Everything was back on track.
Including herself.
Perhaps she had been trying to take the easy way out, blocking her magic from returning so she could go back to New York with no ties left behind.Â
But more than anything, it was Killianâs smile now that made the warmth inside her grow even more, and if it wasnât her imagination, made the wand spark a little brighter.
âIt works,â whispered Emma, staring at the wand in awe, eyes snapping to Killian. âMy magic is back!â
âI knew you could do it, love.â said Killian softly, a relief in his eyes, like it was for both the possibility of getting back home, and for the fact that he still blamed himself for her powers being taken in the first place.Â
âAh, the Savior, of course,â murmured Rumplestiltskin from his perch on the edge of his dining table. âI should have known you would have magic of your own.â
Emma suddenly realized just how much Rumplestiltskin knew. âIs it a problem that you knowâŚ?â
âIt would be,â he agreed, but lifted his hand, where a potion bottle materialized. âHowever, I have spent the past few hours mixing myself a Forgetting Potion.â
Emma smiled. âGood. Well, letâs do this, then.â She then lifted the wand, about to attempt to bring forth the time portal.
âWait, wait, wait,â said Rumplestiltskin, jumping down and pushing her hand with the wand down. âNot in here. You might bring any number of my possessions with you.â
Emma winced, eyes finding the myriad of scary-looking things in the castle, wondering just how catastrophic that could be.Â
She looked from Killianâs raised eyebrow to Rumplestiltskin. âSo where do weââ
But not a second later, Rumplestiltskinâs castle was gone, and suddenly they were outside. Trees, greenery and blue sky replaced the walls of the Dark Oneâs abode. They werenât too far from the town below, and not far off was the sea. But they were in an empty enough area of the forest that no one should see anything, and nothing should come with them.
âWell,â said Killian, giving her another smile, âready, there, Swan?â
Emma nodded. She lifted the wand again, concentrating on her magic, on the emotion in her chest, bright and raw. The tiny flicker of a portal, like a zipper drawn in the very fabric of the air, appeared before them.Â
Killian grinned. âThatâs it, loââÂ
He was cut off with a grunt, and Emmaâs eyes snapped to him, her concentration broken and the tiny beginnings of the portal fizzled back out of existence.Â
Emmaâs heart stopped.Â
They were no longer alone.Â
A burly, muscled man had his arm around Killianâs neck in a chokehold, his other arm pinning Killianâs left arm to his side. Killian let out an angry, surprised snarl, jerking hard against the grip.Â
âHook!â cried Emma, jamming the wand in her back pocket to hide it and running toward him, only skidding to a stop when three other thugs suddenly flanked the first.
âSwââ began Killian, his right hand scrabbling at the hold around his neck, but his airway was quickly cut off. Red rushed to his face, and Emmaâs heart froze.
âSorry, darlinâ,â said the manâs raspy voice. âWe got direct orders to bring Captain Hook in. He stole from us last night, and now he gonâ pay. Pretty stupid to show yer face in the open like this, without yer crew, no less.â A dark chuckle. âShoulda sailed away when he had the chance.â To someone behind him, he shouted, âLucky catch, men!â
Killian struggled against them, something angry and feral, landing a blow to the man's gut. The man growled and stumbled, and Killian reared back to hit him again until the man snapped, âStop fightinâ or the wench dies!â That made Killian freeze, staring at her with icy horror.Â
For a moment, Emma and Killian stared at each other, and it felt like time stood still.
Panic rushed through Emma's chest.
Magic.
Magic.
But she had no idea how to use her magic.
And if she took even a step forward, she'd get a sword through her in seconds.
Killian grunted as a second thug grabbed him on his other side, ripping Killian's sword from his sheath.
Panic rose even sharper in Emma's chest.
Killian swallowed, eyes locked onto her. âGoâhome,â Killian managed, his eyes pleading and broken, with something in them that looked like goodbye, only making Emmaâs eyes burn.Â
âHookâ!â breathed Emma, running for him, but froze when three swords pointed in her direction, so close to her it made her stumble back, falling to the ground.
And by the time she made it back to her feet, they were gone.
-.-.-.
Dark had fallen.
The air had chilled.Â
But none of it gave her the cold dread inside her chest.Â
Sheâd searched for hours.
But those men obviously knew this forest better than she did, and it was easy to get lost in it.Â
Too easy.
She let them take him.
Emma kicked herself.
She should have done something.
She should have done something.
She should have been spending all the time back in Storybrooke learning magic instead of shoving it away.
Because now Killian was gone, and it was all her fault.
She got them stuck in the past.
She was the reason Killian stopped trying to free himself from those bastards.
She was the reason that they may never see each other again.
Emma couldnât stop seeing his eyes.Â
The resignation.
The defeat.Â
The horrible, utter sadness.
She was now alone, and sheâd never felt this alone in her entire life.Â
It was one thing to grow up being alone.Â
And it was another thing entirely to find people, to fall for people, and to have them ripped from you.
It was an entirely different thing to know what it felt like to not be alone.
And ever since meeting Killian, more or less after he decided to become a part of something , heâd been practically glued to her side. Heâd voluntarily gone back to the land he hated more than anywhere, heâd given up his revenge, heâd found her in freaking New York City âan endeavor Emma still didnât know how he managed to doâand how he managed to find her in a world he knew hardly anything about?
Emma stopped on the path, feeling the chill of the air.Â
Even the air felt different in the Enchanted Forest. It felt⌠unearthly, which, wasnât exactly off point. The magic in the land seemed to crackle like a charged atmosphere. The animal sounds, the nightly coos and caws were different, and all this different was unsettling andâŚ
She really, really didnât want to admit she was scared.Â
But Emma didnât have Mary Margaret with her this time. She didnât have a princess squad to help her through. And, she didnât have Hook.
Killian, who was god knew where.Â
He might even already beâ
No , said a firm voice in her head, trying to quell the hair that raised on the back of her neck at the thought. They wouldnât have kidnapped him if they were going to be quick about it.Â
The idea of him suffering at allâŚ
Emma swallowed, hard, trying to shove down the rush of panic that shook her fingers.
How the hell was she supposed to find him?
She was a complete outsider.Â
She not only wasnât from this town, she wasnât from this world , and she wasnât from this time, not by a long shot.Â
She was trapped thirty years in the past, and Killian could be anywhere.Â
âGo home.â
Emma shut her eyes at Killianâs echo.
Go home.
He wanted her to go home.
He wanted her to leave him here, conjure the portal, and go home.
The very fact that he thought she would made her chest hurt, because how could he think sheâd leave him here?
ButâŚ
âYou really thought Iâd let you drown?â
âGiven our history, can you blame me for being uncertain? â
Here she was thinking how he could possibly think she didnât care about him, whenâŚ
âDo you even care about them? Or anyone in this town?â
He said anyone.
He meant me.
And replaying it all, how could she think heâd know she did?
All sheâs done since he saved her in New York, was walk away from him.
But she did care.
She more than cared.
And now, she may never
No.
Emma opened her eyes, ignoring the burn in them.
Determination set into her face, Emma made up her mind without hesitation.Â
There was no way she was leaving here without Killian.
The thought of returning to life without him, living without himâŚ
It felt wrong.Â
Something about him in her life just made sense. Even now, she felt like something was missing, and suddenly she was wondering how she ever considered leaving her family, leaving him, to go back to New York.Â
âGo home.â
She couldnât go home when he already became her home.
ButâŚÂ
How on earthâor, how in the Enchanted Forestâwas she supposed to find him?
And before they did something terrible and irreversible to him?
âHe stole from us last night. Now heâs gon' pay.â
Emma blinked.Â
Killian didnât steal anything from anyone; she knew he hadnât. Heâd been too concerned with messing up the time continuum.
He hadnât stolen.
But Emma had a pretty good feeling who had.
And Killian was currently paying for his crime.Â
Emma smiled grimly, a plan unfolding in her head.Â
She started walking, faster this time.
She just hoped the Jolly Roger was still in port.Â
-.-.-.
Emma clung to the shadows when she entered the town.Â
Thanks to Rumplestiltskin returning her clothes, she was no longer wearing the ragged dress and cloak that they had stolen, and was back in her jeans and leather jacket. Something that, Killianâs voice reminded her, hasnât come into vogue, ever. So⌠she had to be careful. They just fixed the timeline; they cannot ruin it all over again.
But Killian was worth that risk.
As she clung to the dark areas of town, Emma was reminded of a younger her, living on the streets, dodging shadowy corners to pitch black alleyways. It was evening, the sky blackening with an array of stars, but the town still bustled with life, mostly around the taverns.Â
Emma passed the tavern she and Killian had found his past-self in, and Emma risked a look inside, but he wasnât there.Â
Her heart quickening, Emma suddenly worried he wasnât even in town.
She picked up her pace, following the path past-Hook had led her down when heâd been her inebriated guide.Â
Emma emerged from the cover of an alley, looking up to see the sea, and ships of all sizes moored at the docks. And among themâ
Emma felt relief flood her.Â
The Jolly Roger.Â
She smiled despite herself, picking up her pace. As she got closer, she could see the crew retracting the anchorâ
They were leaving.Â
Her heart pounding, Emma began to sprint.Â
With grunts of heaving, two members of the Jollyâs crew were lifting the gangplank.
It was halfway up when Emma got to it, flinging herself off the dock and onto it, barely making the jump. She slid down the wood, landing in a heap on the deck.Â
âWhat in the blazesâ?!â
The two men nearly dropped the gangplank, but managed to finish shutting it, faster, as if worrying that someone else was going to attempt Emmaâs jump.Â
Her entire body throbbing from the mistreatment, Emma slowly picked herself up from the deck. She quickly noticed at least a dozen pirates were staring at her in shock.Â
But a voice broke through the din, and Emma would recognize it anywhere.Â
âWell, you donât bloody see something like that every day.â
-.-.-.
Despite her protests, Emma had been manhandled by two of the crew members and dragged into the Captainâs Quarters a moment after sheâd seen him. Heâd witnessed her reckless jump onto his ship, but hadnât said a word to her yet.Â
She was currently in the chair opposite his desk, two burly hands on her shoulders keeping her pinned down, and Hook was in his chair behind the desk, staring at her in silence.Â
âWhat are you doing aboard my ship?â he said finally.Â
Emma flicked her eyes to the pirate holding her down, then back to Hook. âIâll tell you, but only you.â
Hook sighed, then flicked his eyes to the man behind her, giving a minute nod and a slight roll of his eyes. Then, when the door clicked shut, he gave her a pointed look.
Emma let out a breath, her heart beating in a frenzy. This Hook was not half as drunk as he was when they last met. His gaze on her was cold and measured and there was no trace of the softness Killian had now. It unnerved her, this air of danger he held, sitting before her. Waiting.Â
But Emma swallowed, trying to remember, this is still Killian. Just⌠buried under two hundred years of pain and resentment.Â
It didnât make her feel better.Â
âI need your help.â said Emma at last, holding his gaze.Â
His brow lifted, like that was the last thing heâd expected her to say. âMy help?â he echoed, lips twisting a little in amusement. âIâm a pirate captain, lass. Youâve mistaken me for someone who gives. Pirates take.â
Emma resisted the urge to roll her eyes at the irony that all heâs done the past two years was give.Â
Worry fluttered in her stomach, suddenly wondering if her Killian was all right.
And when did he start being âherâ Killian?
Emma let out another breath. âYeah, thatâs actually what brings me here. All I need to know,â said Emma slowly, âis who you stole from last night.âÂ
Sheâd thought it through; if she could just get the name or the place of the person who heâd stolen from, she could go find Killian without Hook ever needing to know she was from the future.Â
Hook paused.Â
Suspicion suddenly gleamed in his eyes.Â
He stood, and rounded his desk until he was standing before her.Â
The suspicion only deepened in his eyes.
Emma could feel the danger radiate off him like a cologne.Â
She was trying not to shrink under his intense gaze when he leaned even closer, his face inches from hers. He searched her eyes.
âYou,â he whispered. âI remember you.â
Emmaâs heart skipped. âYou do?â she breathed.Â
She should have known it was irrational to think he meant he remembered knowing her.Â
Because his eyes narrowed, coldness in the blue. âYou owe me a nightcap, love.â
Emma froze. âOh,â she said, biting her lip. âDidnât blame the rum, huh?â
He leaned back slightly, but looked no less predatory. âIâm guessing this is from you as well,â he said, brushing the metal of his hook to his cheek where Killian had hit him.Â
Emma winced. âNot exactlyââ
He was suddenly in her face again, eyes narrowed, colder than ice. âYou were trying to get me drunk. To get on my ship,â he muttered. âWhy?â
Oops.
Emma tried to think fast.Â
She did not like a version of Killian that scared her, and this one did exactly that.Â
As if to prove the point, he raised his hook, tracing her jaw until the tip was underneath her chin, forcing her head up. Emma gasped reflexively, suddenly realizing how bad of an idea this had been. âTell me,â he hissed, âor this will be rather unpleasant.â
Emma swallowed, trying to stem the rush of fear. To hell with the timeline. âIâm from the future.â
His brow rose sharply, surprise and a little confusion slipping into that cold expression. Clearly time travel was not one of the things heâd expected her to say.Â
It was the second time sheâd surprised him, and Emma knew he wasnât an easily surprised man.
Before he could interrupt, she went on, wincing as the sharp tip of his hook stung. âIâm telling you the truth,â she said quickly, fear sending a shiver down her spine. âIâm from⌠about thirty years in the future. I think. Itâs really hard to keep track with all the curses," she finished, which even to her ears sounded like she was crazy.
âTime travel is unheard of.â said Hook, dismissing her whole story.
"You spend two hundred years on an island where time doesn't even exist and this is too crazy for you to imagine?" snapped Emma exasperatedly.
He ignored her. âNow, what are you really doing on my ship? Clearly if youâd gotten what you wanted, you wouldnât have been daft enough to return.â His eyes looked her up and down, his brow lifting when his eyes reached hers, and Emma glared at him. âAnd if I had gotten what I wanted, that night would not have ended with you injuring me.â A cold smile. âWell, not in the traditional way, anyway.â
Emma huffed out a breath, almost forgetting just how innuendo-clad he once was. âLook, Iâm telling the truth . I need your help toââ She gasped, the tip of his hook digging slightly deeper.Â
âYou will tell me what I want to know,â said Hook quietly. He removed his namesake, and Emma winced. âIâll give you the night to think it over. Lie to me again," his voice lowering, dipping into the personification of danger as his gaze bored into hers, and she tried not to shrink under it, "youâll be walking the plank in the morning.â He moved away from her, and Emma realized she'd forgotten how to breathe.
âHookââ began Emma, but Hook simply barked, âJenkins!â
The door opened, and one of the men who had dragged her down here walked inside.Â
âTake her to the brig.â
Emmaâs heart pounded. âNoâ Hook,â she said quickly as he sat nonchalantly back at his desk. âI needââ
Emma was grabbed from behind and forced out.Â
He didnât look up as they took her.Â
But when he thought she was out of sight, she saw him briefly touch his fingers to his lips, something unreadable stirring in his eyes.
-.-.-.-.
Emma waited until she was left alone, and the ship had quieted down enough to suggest the crew was asleep.
Theyâd bound her hands in front of her, which was their first mistake.Â
Feeling a sense of deja vu, Emma felt along the ground until she found something useful. Finding something sharp and thin enough to work, she quickly got to work on the lock to the cage.Â
The trouble was opening the door without it creaking, which took her plenty of precious minutes.Â
Once free, she left the brig, and quietly made her way to the armory.
It was good that she was familiar with the ship after Neverland. Plenty of hours on the water had her nervous energy getting the better of herself and sheâd done some extensive exploring. Sheâd paced the ship enough to know where its creaky boards were, so she was inside the armory in silence quickly.Â
Emma grabbed the first blade she could findâa knifeâand freed her hands, then took the gag from her mouth.Â
Gripping the knife in her shaking hands, Emma left the armory, walking down the hallway to the door at the very end.Â
The Captainâs Quarters.Â
Feeling plenty of uncertainty, but needing to know where Killian was, Emma slowly reached for the door handle, glad the ridiculously loud chorus of snoring from the crew covered much of the noise she made.Â
Slowly and without breathing, she opened his door.Â
Emma shut it just as quietly, and the noise of the snoring was muted.Â
Emma turned.Â
The cabin was dark.Â
And there, lying on his bed, was Hook. Asleep.
She could see him breathe beneath the blanket.Â
Carefully, and avoiding every creak in the floor she knew of, Emma crept up to his bed.Â
Then, she held the knife an inch from his throat, opening her mouth to wake him.
âDo I need to explain what a nightcap is to you?â
Emma jumped a mile in her skin.
Hookâs eyes were open, and he looked from the knife at his throat to Emma. A raised brow, he deadpanned, âYou escaped.â
âYou underestimated me.â she countered. He lifted his brow as Emma continued firmly, âI need you to help me.â
âHelp me?â he echoed. His eyes flicked from the knife to her eyes. âYouâre taking your life in your hands threatening me, lass.â he said dangerously.
âIâm trying to save your life!â snapped Emma.
His brow hitched higher, again flicking his eyes pointedly to the blade, then back at her.Â
Emma sighed, removing the knife from his throat.Â
He still didnât move, eyeing her still suspiciously. âHow is it you think youâre saving me?â he asked.Â
Emma sighed shortly. âLook. I told you I was from the future. I am. Iâm from your future. And I didnât get sent to the past alone.â She took a breath, hoping telling him wouldnât implode the timeline. But she was scared, she was alone, and without his information, she would never be able to find Killian. She could only hope that after she saved Killian, heâd still exist when they returned to their time.Â
Emma sighed. âWhen I got sent here, you came with me.â she said finally.
Confusion kneaded his brows with honest puzzlement, and for the first time he looked almost like her Killian. âI⌠what?â he managed.
Emma sighed shortly. âYouâ future you,â clarified Emma. âYouâre here, in the past, too.â
Hook looked lost in thought for a second. Thenâ âThat was bloody real?â
âWhat was?â asked Emma.
He sat up, regarding her with both suspicion and shock. âThe dream I thought I had of you, up until you foolishly returned.â Emma glared at him flatly as he went on, âI sawâŚâ
âYourself,â finished Emma impatiently. âYeah. You punched yourself.â At his very perplexed expression, she went on, âI told himâyouâit was a bad idea. So, blame yourself.â He blinked in utter confusion. But, at least, he seemed to believe her story. âLook,â said Emma, âwe were on our way back to the future when some huge guys kidnapped him because they said he stole something and he needed to âpay for itâ.â she finished in a bad facsimile of Killianâs abductorâs voice. Her eyes burning into Hookâs, she said, âWhat did you steal? Who are they and where did they take him?â
âYouâre telling me,â said Hook slowly, âthat there is a future version of me out here?â
âYes,â said Emma through gritted teeth. âNow what did youââ
âTell me, love,â said Hook casually enough, though the coldness in his words was back. âWhat is my future?â
âI canât tell you that,â she said exasperatedly. âAlready I need to get you a Forgetting Potion to make sure you get to that future.â
He stared at her for a long moment, a million things happening behind guarded eyes. But finally, his brow lifted a fraction. âAnd Iâm just supposed to believe this?"Â
Emma groaned. âWhat proof do you want?â she said impatiently. âYour father abandoned you and Liam; you used to be in the Royal Navy; you became a pirate after what happened to Liam in Neverland; youâre currently on a suicidal mission to kill Rumplestiltskin for taking your hand and Milaââ
âStop!âÂ
Emma froze, having been angrily ticking off the trivia on her fingers, to see Hookâs eyes with more emotion than sheâs seen from this version of him yet.Â
âHow do you know all that?â he breathed. For once, his voice lost Hookâs edge, and he sounded like Killian. The danger evaporated from him in seconds, replaced with something almost... lost. âItâsâit's been centuries sinceâ"
âYou told me.â said Emma simply.Â
âI⌠told you,â repeated Hook flatly, words rolling off his tongue like something foreign. The edge in his voice swiftly returned as he demanded angrily, âAnd why the bloody hell would I do that?âÂ
âHow should I know?â snapped Emma, her anxiety getting to her and sharpening her own tone.
He rose to his feet, and Emma did not like the feeling that he was attempting to use his height over hers to intimidate her. He leveled a look at her, with something different in his eyes, something dangerous in a new way. âTell me one thing, lass," he began, voice casual-sounding, but underlined with something that sent a shiver down her spine, "and maybe I help you.â
âWhy wouldnât you help me?â exclaimed Emma, standing her ground. âYouâd be helping you!â
âThat remains to be seen.â He stepped toward her, and damn it he didnât even need the hook to be imposing. âTell me, lass.â Another step, and Emma felt her back hit the wall, not even realizing sheâd been retreating. His gaze bored into hers. âDo I get my revenge?â
Emma swallowed, suddenly feeling a familiar sense of dread as to when the past version of Rumplestiltskin had asked about whether or not he found Neal.
When the silence spread a little too long, she whispered, âHookââ
âDo I, or not?â he demanded, voice clipped. Cold.
Dangerous.
Emma felt paralyzed.
The Hookâthe Killian âstanding before her was completely hellbent on getting his revenge. Heâs been at it for centuries, and the anger and pain in his eyes overpowered the blue in them, so much so it was hard to remember that Killian and Hook were the same person.
And here, Hook was his vengeance right now.
There was hardly a spark of him.
If she told him the truth, that he not only doesnât kill his crocodile, but chooses to live peacefully in the same town as the monster? Gives up not only his quest for vengeance, but turns into a hero?
And worse yet, that he lets go of Milah?
For her?
From the amount of anger sheâs eliciting from him right now, she doubted heâd be happy to know that information in particular.
So, she decided to tell him the truth.
OrâŚ
Part of it.
âNo,â she said finally, watching his brow shift dangerously. âNot yet.â
He searched her eyes, his face like stone. âNot yet?â he repeated, voice low, almost threatening.
Emma swallowed the fear slipping down her spine, hoping she was still as good of a liar as she once was. âNot yet,â she confirmed, which, still, wasnât a complete lie. She took a breath, holding his gaze, preparing herself.Â
And she lied.
âIâm helping you get your revenge in the future,â she said smoothly. âThe Dark One is currently living in a realm without magic. Heâs vulnerable. Iâm helping you get there.â She swallowed, her entire body rigid. Hook was pin-silent as Emma finished, âWe accidentally got sent to the past on our way there. Thatâs why I need you to help me. If you donât, you will never get your revenge.â
Emma fell quiet, holding her head high, clinging onto confidence she didnât feel in the slightest.
Killian could read her like an open book.
If this version of him was as perceptive as he comes to beâŚ
If he found her lying to himâŚ
Again âŚ
Emma tried to ignore the fear prickling in her veins.
He held her gaze, pinning her to the spot with his eyes alone. Watching her eyes carefully, his narrowed.Â
Finally, he said, âWhy are you helping me?â
Emma tried not to flinch at the obvious distaste in his voice. She thought fast, and found something that held nothing but truth. âBecause,â she said, âyou did me a favor. Iâm repaying a debt.â
His brow lifted. âQuite the debt.â
Emma felt something stir in her chest, thinking of all that Killian has done for her. âIt was quite the favor,â she said quietly.
His brows kneaded with question, like he wasnât sure why he would bother to do her a favor.
Emma was quickly becoming irritated with this version of Hook.
âHow are you helping me?â he asked then, gaze boring into hers, almost as if he was trying to poke holes into her story to see if it would leak. âWhy do I need you?â
It was spoken so carelessly.
And it hurt.
Emma was surprised at the sudden burn behind her eyes.
Sheâd brushed off Killianâs affections, his obvious devotion to her, more times than she could count.Â
And here he was, looking at her like he couldnât have cared about her less.
How could she have wasted all the time she had with him?
Getting him back now was the longest of long shots, forâand it made sharp fear race down her spineâ he could already be dead.
Blinking away the emotion, Emma huffed out a breath, trying not to appear as hurt by his words as she was. âIâve got Light Magic,â she snapped, making surprise lift his brow. âYouâre trying to kill the Dark One. Do the math.â
He stared at her for a long moment, eyes narrowed, danger rolling off him in waves.
Finally, he spoke.
âI help you, and, him,â he muttered, uneasily over what to call his future self, âget back to your time,â he said slowly, âand then I will get what I want most?â
Emma felt the ghost of a smile touch her lips, for she didnât have to lie for this one. âYes.âÂ
He most definitely will.Â

Ho Ho Ho! It is your secret Santa dropping into your chimney at the death of night to leave you this ask- oops that sounded stalkerish...just like how I stalk your page for your lovely edits! Enough with my terrible attempts at (dark??) humor and let's get into the thick of it (*eyes the KSI memes*). Oops looks like I'm already rolling away from the topic. So my dear giftee I have a few questions for you- what is your favorite captain swan scene and what are your favorite tropes? If you'd like to share a favorite fanfic (or a feww) too that would be lovely. Hopefully this wasn't very question heavy (or bad humor centric)- I'm writing this 5 minutes before my sleigh driving test (yeah don't tell peeta I said it was the reindeer doing the work). In all seriousness, I do apologize for the delay its exam week and I didn't check my email until today. I look forward to your response and I'm hoping you have a great week!
Yours truly
Santa number one million and one
Hey Santa! Nice to meet you! I like your enthusiasm in stalking me, haha đ
My favorite CS scenes â "You traded your ship for me?" â Their first dance at the ball â Middlemist field kiss â Killian's death in 5x8 â Killian's death in 5x11 â Elevator scene in 5x20 Some fluff, some angst - full range of emotions đ
I love time travel theme and love their "Back to the Future" adventure. Also love the whole plotline with Dark One Killian, his death and his resurrection.
2. As for my favorite fanfics I'm a huge fan of the series "Alone, Until I Get Home" now. I love the great balance of fluff, angst, casual family moments and magic curses in it. Also I love "Breathe Out (So I Can Breathe You In)" - it's some kind of character exploration of Killian through his dreams. "Stolen Hearts" - Captain Duckling fanfic with the good balance of adventures, love and smut. "Straight to You" - 1000% angsty work where Killian and Emma were cursed and separated. And she needs to find him and to give birth to their child before his 32 birthday. Otherwise he will die and this loop will begin again. Thank your for your questions:) I hope it will help. Have a great week!
