HARTFORD WOLF PACK WIN FIRST EXHIBITION GAME
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - The Hartford Wolf Pack pre-season begins with a 3-2 shootout win over the Springfield Thunderbirds on Wednesday at Koeppel Community Center at Trinity College. Ryder Korczak scored the lone goal for either team in the shootout. Pack rookie netminder Talyn Boyko played the second half of the contest and stopped all three Thunderbirds attempts, first by Tanner Dickinson, then Mikhail Abramov, and finally Mitchell Hoelscher for the win. In the first five minutes of the third period, the Wolf Pack built a late 2-1 lead on the strength of two goals scored a minute apart. The second, a power play goal, came at 3:35 by newcomer Seth Barton. “Obviously, it’s the first time together," Barton said afterward with a big smile. "We have progressively gotten to know each other since rookie camp, and it was good to get one under (our) belt. It took a while to get (the game) going under our feet.  We had Boyk (Boyko) standing on his head helping the boys. Things went the other way for you because we had the shots (22-15 after two periods of play). It’s my third time going through this. A different group, different guys, different way of doing things. We had to get into a rhythm and it's been a welcoming place and looking forward to the next little bit.” Head coach Krie Knoblauch had praise for Barton's performance. “He looked comfortable out there. He was the quarterback and it looks like we'll keep him in that role.“ While the rosters were comprised of mostly ECHL-bound players, for the Pack, it allowed Knoblauch and assistants Steve Smith, Jamie Tardif, Colin Downey, and goalie coach Jeff Malcolm to get a glimpse of future possibilities. Pack General Manager, and Trinity Alum, Ryan Martin, Jed Ortmeyer, the Rangers' Player Development Director, and assistant Player Director, Tanner Glass also got the chance to assess what their depth players look like in the event of injuries or recalls this season. The team, especially the younger players, learned what the pace of a pro game looked like early. Luka Burzan lost the puck at center ice resulting from the efforts of the Thunderbirds' Alexandre Fortin, who brought the play into the Wolf Pack zone. Anthony Beauregard, off Fortin's pass, then netted a nifty backhander into the top part of the net over starting Pack goalie Olof Lindbom at 2:56. Lindbom made two strong saves about nine minutes into the first period. The first save was on Drew Callin and later on Keean Waskurak on a semi-breakaway. The early bumpy nature of play in the pre-season was to be expected. “There was good energy, but the first five minutes we were nervous, couldn’t put two passes together, but there were a lot of good plays too," Knoblauch said. Brett Berard played very well in the third period and for the majority of the second half of the game. “I liked that he was looking to shoot. He was getting his chances, getting the opportunities, getting to the middle of the ice. He really wanted that puck and took a big step. We didn’t see him a lot last year until he left college. I think he’s a better player than when he came to us last year. Just hope he continues to get better.” Defenseman Ryan McCleary, the son of New Haven Senator Trent McCleary, scored the first goal, a seeing-eye shot that found it’s way through a mass of legs and sticks at 2:13. Adam Edström, while not on the stat sheet, helped get the team out of the offensive mud. Though he did not score, he created chances, including an unsuccesful breakaway. “Edström, he’s a very strong skater and when he gets a step on a guy….he’s hard to catch. It’s nice to have a guy like that (6’7 and fleet of foot) who drives to the net. He’ll create a lot of opportunities, it was just unfortunate and too bad he didn’t score there.” Edström and Matt Rempe played together on a line with Sahil Panwar in the pivot to start off the game. Then to start the third period, Matej Pekar was in the donut hole as Knoblauch, never afraid to change a line philosophy, continued. NOTES: Dylan Garand, still in New York with the Rangers, is expected to play the whole game in Bridgeport against the Islanders. Knoblauch expects his timetable later in the week for the camp cuts to come. “Probably Friday or Saturday. I’m not sure right now.” Rempe was the last player off the ice pre-game. Mark Cairns made some sound defensive plays. The Springfield Thunderbirds lineup featured Fortin, the nephew of former Hartford Whaler Jean-Sébastien Giguère, as was Chris Harpur, the younger brother of current Ranger and ex-Pack Ben Harpur, whom played with the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL) last season. Jansen Harkins, the son ex-Whaler Todd Harkins, was taken by the Pittsburgh Penguins off of waivers from the Winnipeg Jets. Other notables in AHL training camps, David Spacek (the son of former Beast of New Haven Jaroslav Spacek), is in Iowa Wild camp after the Minnesota Wild drafted and signed him. Ex-Pack Peter Holland was sent to the Colorado Eagles by the Avalanche. In Tucson, ex-Pack Tyson Helgesen and Peter DiLiberatore (Quinnipiac University) are both in the Roadrunners camp. Brad Morrison, the nephew of former New Haven Nighthawk and current Manitoba Moose Head Coach Mark Morrison, and ex-Bridgeport Sount Tiger Collin Adams are both in the camp of the Abbotsford Canucks. The cousin of former Sound Tiger Mark Katic, Danny Katic, is in Manitoba’s camp, while Brooklyn Kamilkov, the son ex-Sound Tiger Konstantin Kamilkov is in the Providence Bruins' camp, and the son of ex-Whaler Derek King, D.J. King is in the Rockford IceHogs' camp. Former Sound Tiger goalie Christopher Gibson was reassigned pending a waiver clear from the Dallas Stars to the Texas Stars. Patrick Grasso, the cousin of one-time New Haven Nighthawk Tom Mullen, like many others is in the camp of the independent AHL Chicago Wolves. Logan Drevitch, the son of former New Haven Nighthawk Scott Drevitch is in Henderson’s camp. He signed with the Savannah Ghost Pirates (ECHL) and is scheduled to play with his brother Tyler Drevitch this year. Ex-Pack Shawn McBride leaves Sterzig/Vitipeno (Italy-AplsHL) and signs with the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL). Trevor Zegras, (Avon Old Farms) signs a three-year extension with the Anaheim Ducks for $17.25M. Former CT Whale and Ranger, Matt Zuccarello, signed a two-year extension with the Minnesota Wild. Former Whaler and Ranger Marek Malik, is now the skills coach with HC Oceláři Trinec Czechia (Czech Republic)-CEL. One time Wolf Pack assistant coach David Cunniff, the son of the late, legendary New England Whaler John Cunniff, is now the assistant coach with the Utica Comets. Recently retired ex-Pack Kelsey Tessier, after finishing his career in France, goes back to where he started, becoming the skills coach for the Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL). Greg Moore, ex-Pack, Sound Tiger, and Springfield Falcon, who was a one-time Pack captain, let go from the Toronto Marlies, like Tessier goes back to his coaching roots. He is head coach of the US National U-17 team (USNDTP) and that plays in the USHL and his assistant is ex-Pack/CT Whale Chad Kolarik. Ex-CT Whale Kris Newbury, continues playing Canadian senior league hockey with Deseronto (EOSHL)-Easter Ontario Senior Hockey League. Adam Dawe, a UCONN (HE), half-a-semester post-grad last year re-signs with Newfoundland (St. John’s) Growlers (ECHL). UCONN opens their season this weekend on the road in a non-conference matchup against Colgate University (ECACHL) coached by ex-Pack Mike Harder. Goalie Remi DeSmith,(Torrington/CT Chiefs U-18 AAA-AYHL) is with the Gatineau Flames (QJHL), a Junior A club. HARTFORD WOLF PACK HOME Read the full article

Begin Again: Chapter 2
Fandom: SEAL Team
Characters: Sonny Quinn, Lisa Davis
Read Chapter 1 Here
                                  XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
By the time they landed they still had nothing and Lisa’s heart had started to really hammer inside her chest. They couldn’t lose Ray. The team would never make it without him. Not to mention how devastating it would be for Naima and the kids.
They disembarked and went straight into Mandy’s office, still searching for anything useful. “God what are we going to do?” Lisa asked, rubbing her temple.
Mandy continued to click back and forth. “There’s got to be something here. There’s way more footage than we thought. We must have—“
She trailed off and stared at the screen, eyes wide with surprise. “Oh my god.”
“What?” Lisa leaned closer. “What is it?”
When she finally saw what Mandy had spotted her heart sank. “Is that Vic?”
“He lied,” Mandy said, grabbing the laptop and getting to her feet. “He lied to the whole team.”
“And he was going to let Ray take the fall.” Lisa’s head was spinning. It was a relief, but also gut wrenching; a betrayal of all of them.
“We have to tell Eric,” Mandy said grimly.
Eric’s face didn’t change when they showed him the footage, but Lisa could feel his anger and sadness. “What do you want to do?” she asked.
“Let’s take it to the team. Decision is their’s,” he said.
She watched everyone’s faces as they played the footage, seeing on each of them the moment they realized what it meant. It wasn’t a surprise when Sonny nearly jumped across the table to strangle Vic, or that it took three of the guys to hold him back. This was the kind of wound that couldn’t be repaired.
“That was brutal,” Mandy said when they’d left the room to let the team decide Vic’s fate.
“Nothing worse than betraying your brothers,” Blackburn said with a shake of his head. “I’ve got paperwork to take care of. You two make sure to get a good night’s rest. You’ve earned it.”
“You all right?” Mandy asked when he had gone. “You look pale.”
Lisa swallowed, silently begging her stomach to stay in place as it churned in her gut. “Yeah I’m good. Just worried about the guys.”
Mandy nodded. “Well you should get some rest. I’ve got a couple calls I have to make.” She eyed her critically. “You sure you’re good?”
“Yes!” Lisa tried to play it off with a laugh. “Go make your calls. I’m going to stick around and make sure the guys are…as okay as they can be.”
Mandy seemed skeptical but left her alone. Lisa was grateful for some time to go lick her wounds privately. She walked to the armory and took up residence outside of Sonny’s cage, settling on the floor because she really didn’t think she could stay on her feet any longer. Her head went back to rest against the metal links and she closed her eyes, willing the nausea and dizziness to go away, along with the thundering headache. She just needed to relax for a little bit and then everything would be fine.
She must have drifted off for a second because she was startled awake by the guys trudging in. One look at their faces told her all she needed to know; Vic was no longer part of Bravo. And that was going to hurt for a long time.
“Davis,” Clay said. “What are you still doing here?”
“Wanted to see if you guys needed anything,” she said from the floor, unable to make herself get to her feet.
Ray’s eyes met hers briefly, jaw tight, steely resolve in his eyes. “We’re good,” he said. “Thank you. For what you found.”
She nodded. “Couldn’t stand to lose you.”
Everyone seemed eager to leave, packing up their gear and heading out without much conversation. She couldn’t blame them. All she wanted was to fall into her bed and forget about this entire mission.
“Time for you to go home killer,” Sonny said, offering her a hand.
He pulled her to her feet and she immediately staggered, breath catching in her throat as the world spun. She grabbed onto Sonny’s arm and felt his hands catch around her waist as she collapsed into him.
The next thing she knew, she was on the floor, Trent directly in her face. “Davis, hey, look at me. Do you know where you are?”
They were in transport right? Or maybe they were still in Caracas? “I—I don’t—“
She couldn’t remember. Oh god. She couldn’t remember.
Well this had taken an even shittier turn of events. Sonny trudged with the boys back to the armory, his gut clenched so tightly it hurt. They’d never lost a brother like this before. Half of him wanted to tear the kid apart and the other half wanted to curl up in a corner and cry. He’d gotten used to having Vic around. Had even started what felt like a friendship. Seeing Ray rip his trident like that…Sonny shook his head. It royally fucking sucked.
Davis was propped up against his cage looking like death warmed over and it made Sonny feel just a tiny bit better to have her there. It felt normal again after a lot of months of weird.
“Time for you to go home killer,” Sonny said, pulling her up off the floor. Her face immediately drained of color and she grabbed his arm for support. His hands automatically went to her waist, catching her against his chest as she went completely limp. “Jase!”
Bravo One turned and saw the situation and then immediately caught the hallway door, yelling for Trent to come back. Sonny lowered Lisa to the ground, mindful of her head. Clay handed him a pack and he used it to prop her up a bit. “I’ll call for medical,” Ray said, reaching for the room phone as Trent returned and dropped to his knees.
He checked her airway and her pulse then rubbed her sternum fiercely until her eyes fluttered open. “Davis, hey, look at me, do you know where you are?” Trent asked.
“I—I don’t—“ She looked so scared and Sonny felt a wave of terror swamp over him.
“What’s your name?” Trent tried.
“Lisa.” Her face relaxed a little bit in relief.
“And what’s my name?”
“…Trent.” The answer was far too slow in coming for anybody’s liking.
“You know what year it is?”
That got nothing but a panicked stare. “Okay, it’s all right, just breathe. Help’s coming. We’re going to get you taken care of,” Trent said, keeping his voice calm even as his hands continued to move, loosening her clothes and checking her skull for any injuries he might have missed.
“No, I’m fine. I’ll just go home.” She tried to sit up and blanched.
Sonny and Clay each put a hand on her shoulders. “No you need a CT scan,” Trent said. “With these kinds of symptoms you could have a brain bleed.”
Base medical arrived at that moment, listening as Trent explained the incident and her symptoms.
Sonny wanted to follow them as they left, but once again there was still work to be done. Things had to be put away right or it would mess up the whole team.
He worked as fast as he could and it still took him over an hour to get to the base hospital. The team had spent so much time there over the years that the doctors and nurses knew them all by name. Monica was behind the desk. “What is it Quinn? You get in another dust up?”
“Not me this time,” Sonny told her. “Lisa Davis. She still here?”
She consulted her computer and nodded. “Down that way. Sawyer’s in there with her.”
He wandered down the hall until he found the room. Lisa was asleep, Trent scrolling through his phone by her bed. “Just wanted to check in. How’s she doing?” Sonny asked quietly, his eyes glued to her pale face.
“Better now. They gave her some fluids so she was more lucid before she fell asleep. Said she threw up on the way home but didn’t want to make trouble.”
Sonny felt a shiver go down his spine. She’d been hiding this from them and he didn’t want to think about what could have happened if she’d headed home without further treatment. “She uh, she gonna be all right?”
Trent nodded. “CT just came back. She’s got a pretty severe concussion, but no skull fracture or bleeding. They’re going to release her in a little bit.”
“That’s good. I can wait with her if you want to go. You got life to get back to.”
Trent looked hesitant. “She’s going to need someone to go home with her. She can’t be alone with such a severe concussion.”
“I’ll watch her,” Sonny said. “I don’t mind.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yeah it’s not a problem.”
It was a huge problem. Lisa might kill him for getting in her business. But he wouldn’t sleep tonight anyway without knowing if she was okay. Might as well keep her company while he did it.
If Trent suspected anything he didn’t show it as he stood. “I’ll have my phone on. Call if there’s any issues. Anytime.”
“Yeah, will do.”

Flooded fields around Kaskaskia, Illinois on July 1, 2019. (Zbigniew Bzdak / Chicago Tribune)
Excerpt from this story from the Chicago Tribune:
Flooding on the Mississippi River and its tributaries throughout Illinois and the Midwest caused an estimated $6.2 billion in damage in 2019, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Wednesday. The floods, which overwhelmed towns, farms, roads, bridges, levees and dams, contributed to the deaths of four people across 13 states.
The annual report comes as scientists reported that the U.S. continues to experience rising temperatures, and frequent, drenching rains are becoming more commonplace throughout the Midwest and the country. There is no immediate end in sight to these trends, scientists said. The $6.2 billion figure puts the 2019 Midwest flooding as the 51st costliest climate disaster since NOAA began tracking the cost of floods, hurricanes, severe storms, droughts, wildfires and winter storms in 1980.
According to Deke Arndt, chief of climate monitoring for NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, 2019 was the second wettest year on record. Only in 1973 did the U.S. receive more precipitation over the course of a year.
In 2019, Chicago was pelted by 49.54 inches of precipitation, which ranks as the third wettest year on record and more than 12 inches greater than normal, according to the National Weather Service. Since Illinois meteorologists began collecting precipitation records in 1871, four of the Top 5 wettest years in Chicago have occurred in the last decade.
Conditions are tilting toward the possibility of more flooding in 2020 because much of the soil in Illinois is already heavily saturated and cannot retain much additional moisture from rain or melting snow, said state climatologist Trent Ford.
To the north, some states have received a heavy snowfall that will eventually melt into swollen tributaries that feed into the Mississippi River along Illinois’ western border or a Lake Michigan that is already nearing record high levels.
For every 1 degree of warming, the atmosphere can hold 4% more water vapor that can turn into precipitation. Illinois has already warmed about 1.2 degrees statewide in the last century, and the state could warm by about 4 degrees by midcentury, said former Illinois state climatologist Jim Angel.
While the United States has seen annual precipitation climb 4% between 1901 and 2015, Great Lakes states, including Illinois, have experienced a 10% rise over this same period, with much of the additional precipitation coming in the form of heavy rainfall.

You were driving home from work, you got in the turn lane to get off the main highway. The car behind you didn’t stop, rear-ending you. Your body jerked forward, giving you whiplash, a real bad headache and really bad back pain from the start of your spine to the small of your back. You pulled into the nearest gas station to survey the damage, with the driver that hit you. Luckily there was no damage to either car, however you were banged up from the impact. You drove yourself to the hospital, not texting Tyler so you didn’t worry him.
Tumblr media
—ONCE AT THE HOSPITAL—
The doctor did a CT Scan, to see if you had a concussion. As well as a X-ray, to see if you had any broken bones. In the meantime while you waited for the results, you texted Trent and Pete informing them what happened.
Tumblr media
You: I got rearended going home from work, currently at the hospital to get checked out.
Trent: OMG Y/N! Are you ok?
Pete: Do you need us to take an Emergency Leave?
You were flattered by their concerns for you, but you didn’t want them to stop doing what they loved on your account.
You: Guys, that won’t be necessary, I’ll be fine.
—AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER—
The results of your CT Scan and X-ray came back, showing you had a concussion and a bruised Cervical Vertabrae. Due to your concussion, you had to stay in the hospital overnight for close evaluation. You texted Pete and Trent, they didn’t reply back.
—TRENT AND PETE’S POV—
You were current in Brentwood, England for a NXT UK taping, when you got a text from Y/N saying she had been in a car accident. The two of you wrestled with whether or not you should tell Tyler or not, not wanting to lose focus on his match against Walter. You two decided that after the show, you three would get an overnight flight to YNs/H/T, to be with Y/N and surprise her with Tyler. So during Tyler’s match against Alexander Wolfe, you and Trent went to talk to Johnny Saint about the Emergency Leave. Johnny granted it, seeing as he knows you mean a lot to all three members of British Strong Style. Tyler won his match, coming backstage. You and Pete told him to pack his stuff, Tyler asked “Why, is something wrong?” Pete and Trent looked at each other, knowing they had to tell him. “Y/N was in a car accident today, she’s in the hospital with a real bad concussion and a bruised Cervical. We’ve already gone and talked to Johnny about giving us Paid Time Off, so we can all go be with Y/N.” Tyler smiled, truly blessed he had the best friends.

Also on PTOs are forwards Luka Burzan, Peter Laviolette Jr., James Hardie, and Michal Mrazik. All of them are looking to make the Pack's opening night roster. With more cuts coming by the New York Rangers, the Wolf Pack will start camp with 17 forwards, ten defensemen, and three goaltenders on their training camp roster.Forwards (17): Matej Pekar (Cincinnati-ECHL/Rochester), Turner Elson, Riley Nash (Charlotte-AHL), Anton Blidh (Colorado-AHL/NHL/Hartford), Luka Burzan* (Ft. Wayne-Cincinnati-ECHL/ Cleveland-AHL), Karl Henriksson, Sahil Panwar (Peterborough/Hamilton-OHL), Adam Sýkora (HK Nitra-Slovakia/Harford), Peter Laviolette Jr.* (Wheeling-ECHL like his Rangers' Head Coach, he played Division III college hockey), Ryder Korczak (Moose Jaw-WHL/Hartford-5), Bobby Trivigno, Maxim Barbashev (Moncton-QMJHL), James Hardie* (Mississauga-OHL/Cincinnati-ECHL), Alex Belzile (Laval/Montreal), Drew Worrad (Toledo-ECHL/Grand Rapids), Cristiano DiGiacinto (Hartford/Jacksonville-ECHL), and Michal Mrazik* (Atlanta-ECHL/Tucson).Defensemen (10): Matthew Cairns* (Cincinnati-ECHL/Milwaukee), Connor Mackey (Calgary-NHL/Arizona/Team USA-WC, his father is former NHL'er Dave Mackey), Zach Berzolla (Cincinnati-ECHL/Rochester), Blake Hillman, Seth Barton (Toledo-ECHL/Grand Rapids), Nikolas Brouillard (San Diego), Steven MacLean* (Wilfred Laurier-OUAA/Cincinnati-ECHL), Ryan McCleary* (Portland-WHL, rights traded to Swift Current, and the son of New Haven Senator Trent McCleary), Billy Constantinou* (Wichita/Norfolk/Wichita-ECHL/San Jose-AHL), and Chris Cameron* (Indy-ECHL/Milwaukee).Goaltenders (3): Brad Arvanitis*(Rapid City/Tulsa/Wichita-ECHL/Pensacola-SPHL), Talyn Boyko (Kelowna-WHL), and Olof Lindbom (Jacksonville-ECHL/Hartford).Later, the Rangers assigned seven more players to Hartford. All of them played in Hartford last year. The players are goaltender Dylan Garand, defensemen Matthew Robertson and Brandon Scanlin, and forwards Adam Edström Rögle BK (Sweden-SHL/Hartford), Matt Rempe, Brett Berard (Providence College-HE/Hartford), and Jake Leschyshyn (Las Vegas-New York/Hartford). RANGERS PRESEASON The New York Islanders scored three times in the first period on Saturday night against Hamden-born Jonathan Quick. The Rangers started slowly, but the Islanders didn't. The Islanders got a secondary assist on the first goal from ex-Pack/Ranger Julien Gauthier, battling for a position in Belmont.Jonny Brodzinski, who's getting an extended look by the Rangers, had three shots in the first two periods, including the best-quality shot in the second frame for the Rangers. The Rangers started the third period well. Ex-Pack Ryan Lindgren had a quality bid from the right-wing side. Brennan Othmann then scored the first Rangers' goal at the right side of the net, knocking it down with his right skate and whacking the bouncing biscuit into the cage. The Rangers have been pleased with what they've seen from Othmann to this point but need to decide whether to keep him in a limited role or send him to develop in Hartford, where he'll get first-line minutes and power play time.Another last season Pack, Will Cullye, continued to impress, sparking a late comeback that fell short. The hulking 6'4 forward was net front and swatted the puck out of mid-air and into the net to make it 4-3.The Islanders sealed the deal with an empty-netter for the 5-3 final. EMBERSON CLAIMED OFF WAIVERS The Wolf Pack lost last season's right-handed defenseman Ty Emberson to the San Jose Sharks on a waiver claim on Saturday. The Rangers were forced to put Emberson on waivers as a veteran to get him to Hartford, and the Sharks took him. Emberson was a collegiate teammate and defensive partner of K'Andre Miller and is heading back out West, where he started his career (Tucson), heading to the AHL San Jose Barracuda. The club assigned six others to the Wolf Pack. They included defenseman Connor Mackey, who was signed in the off-season. There are options for forward Adam Sýkora, who played two games at the end of last year. He is 19 years old and could be sent back to junior with the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL), where he was the #1 overall pick in last year's CHL Import Draft, or he could return to his native Slovakia like he did last year, or he could be in Hartford. Also heading to Hartford is Turner Elson, a jack-of-all-trades last season for the Wolf Pack, who will likely have an "A" on his sweater this year. Joining him will be Alex Belzile, a captain in Laval with the Rocket, who spent some time in Montreal with the Canadiens last year because of the severe spate of injuries.Anton Blidh came over to Hartford having a sub-par early part of the season with the Colorado Eagles and then briefly with the Avalanche. However, he became a significant asset helping the Wolf Pack when acquired at the trade deadline. He helped the Pack make the playoffs, ending an eight-year drought, not counting the pandemic year and was rewarded with a two-year deal in the off-season.The Rangers also sent Riley Nash, a point-per-game player with the Charlotte Checkers and a thorn in the side of the Wolf Pack, before joining the team last season. The Rangers have 24 players remaining in camp, meaning depending upon salary-cap numbers, one or two could stay in the Big Apple. PLAYER MOVEMENT Forward Ty Smilanic (Quinnipiac University), who grad-transferred to Wisconsin-Madison (Big 10) last year, was sent to Laval by Montreal after acquiring his rights from the Florida Panthers at last year's Trade Deadline.Vegas sent ex-Pack Mason Geersten to the Henderson Silver Knights.Ex-Pack's Justin Richards and Dustin Tokarski are sent to the Rochester Americans pending clearing waivers.Ex-Pack Tommy Hughes starts his second season as an NHL linesman wearing #65.West Hartford's Jordan Samuels-Thomas (Quinnipiac University) wears #42 and starts his second year as an NHL/AHL referee. The referee with the second most Stanley Cup games officiated games in NHL history at 42 is still the late, great Rangers 1970s TV color commentator, Bill "The Big Whistle" Chadwick. You can still hear Chadwick's foghorn voice and memorable observations.Chadwick was surpassed by two games by Bill McCreary Sr. His cousin is the President/Head coach/GM Billy McCreary of the Danbury Hat Tricks (FPHL).His other hockey claim to fame was a hard, clean, legal hit he made on Wayne Gretzky, then in his second season with Edmonton (NHL) and who had four pro seasons under his belt at the point, two WHA and two NHL.McCreary lived and walked out of the Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton alive but never played another game or NHL shift for Toronto or anyone else.HARTFORD WOLF PACK HOME Read the full article

Date Night
(A Black Hat production for BBC Radio 4)
“DATE NIGHT, noun: A pre-arranged occasion when a couple who have been together for a long time commit to a regular night out in order to keep their relationship alive.”
The series follows a collection of couples who are desperately trying to keep their relationship functioning by creating a weekly date night intervention. For some, the relationship is already broken, for others it’s their pre-emptive strike in the hope of new-found longevity. More often than not, the stakes are high, involving children, careers and homes.

FG:    In an attempt to put the spark back in their relationship, Terry has been working on a surprise for his wife of twenty-five years.
MW:   This is proper nice, innit? Mm, just what the doctor ordered!
CT:     Well it isn’t actually what the doctor ordered, Terry, because he ordered you to cut down on cholesterol, so-
MW:   -oh, true-
CT:     -shoving that down your face-
MW:   -Mm!
CT:     Stuffing your face with korma! Stuffing your face! Pogging it down, you are!
MW:   I’m not- What do you mean, pogging it-
CT:     -on a faster! Pogging it down! Just going down wholesale. It’s not even touching the sides, you’re just inhaling it like a snake!
MW:   Urgh.
CT:     Another thing I read, you know what we should all do when we eat?
MW:   What?
CT:     We should blindfold ourselves.
MW:   Why?
CT:     Then we won’t eat as much. There’s a restaurant…
MW:   Yeah?
CT:     That’s completely in the dark. You’re served by blind people-
MW:   -Oh, don’t like the sound of that!-
CT:     -it’s called sensory appreciation. It’s a sensory menu!
MW:   Terri, I could try and do that; I could see if there’s someone who’s got a disability, and could serve us some food in the dark!
CT:     I’m just saying I want something different, I don’t want someone with a guide dog handing me a pizza!
MW:   Okay-
CT:     -I wanna… You know what I would like; a restaurant that you have to make a reservation for. My god, wouldn’t that be… Can you imagine that? Not just turning up, ‘cos Darville knows our faces.
MW:   Well, what sort of a restaurant do you want to go to?
CT:     I want to go to a restaurant with a maître d’. I want to go to a restaurant with a sommelier.
MW:   What?
CT:     [tuts] Someone who knows about wine.
MW:   Okay. Alright. Look, I’m, I’m, I’m… taking on board everything you’re saying-
CT:     -No, you’re not, Terry.
MW:   I am!
CT:     We’re sinking, Terry. I mean, I’m like, I’m, I’m drowning in front of your eyes-
MW:   -Okay, alright, why don’t you pop out-
CT:     -and you are not even-
MW:   -to the garden?
CT:     What?
MW:   Why don’t we pop out to the garden?
CT:     What for?
MW:   Well… Just to have a little peep out there.
CT:     Why would I want to peep out in the garden for?
MW:   We could just, you know, go out and have a little breath of fresh air or whatever.
CT:     What would I want a breath of fresh air…
[Fades into the background as the music begins to signal the end of the scene.]
[23:50 – 27:28]
CT:     What’s that stuff on your hand?
MW:   Oh, it’s… work today, I sort of had… I sort of burnt them a bit. It’s fine.
CT:     You burnt one, have you been at my hair-straighteners again? You better not have been man-scaping again-
MW:   -I haven’t been man-scaping, I-
CT:     -god’s sake! [sighs heavily]
MW:   D’you wanna pop outside?
CT:     Oh my god…
MW:   Darville! Over here, [unintelligible].
CT:     Oh, Terry, leave it, please!
MW:   Oi! Darville, mate!
CT:     Oh my god!
MW:   Uh, everything alright in the garden?
HA:    Yes, [unintelligible].
MW:   Um, I was just saying to Terri, we could maybe pop out to the garden?
CT:     [sighs heavily]
MW:   Darville thinks it’d be a good idea for us to go out to the garden. Uh… Can you remember the first song, what we met to?
CT:     What?
MW:   Can you remember our song? Terence Trent D’Arby, Sign Your Name ‘Cross My Face?
CT:     Sign Your Name Across My Heart, Terry.
MW:   Nah, [sings] “sign your name, cross my face, I want you to be my lady”… [speaking] Can you when remember we went on our first date?
CT:     [sighs heavily]
MW:   Our very, very first date?
CT:     Well, we must have got some really strange looks if my name was signed across your face!
MW:   Do you remember? We went to the bonfire.
CT:     Yeah, I do.
MW:   Up on Kefinton Lane. Remember?
CT:     Yes, I remember going to a bonfire!
MW:   Do you remember the fireworks? You used to love fireworks. You did, you used to think they was great; I remember you clutching me close-
CT:     -Terry-
MW:   -and you says to me, uh… “You’re the fireworks in my starless sky.”
CT:     I’d have probably said can you get me a jacket potato, I’m hungry.
MW:   Well, I remember. You might not.
CT:     Oh, I do remember the fireworks, Terry. But I… I want real fireworks, you know?
MW:   Yeah, well why don’t we go out to the garden?
CT:     What is your obsession with going out to the garden, Terry? I don’t want to go out to the poxy garden!
MW:   It’s not an obsession! Darville thought it would be a good idea for us to out to the garden!
CT:     What does Darville care about me going out to the garden for?
MW:   Well it might be nice, you might wanna get a bit… bit of fresh air, you know, stretch your legs…
CT:     I don’t want to go to the garden, Terry.
MW:   Just come out for five minutes.
CT:     Why?
MW:   Well just…
CT:     I don’t want to go to the garden, Terry.
MW:   Go on.
CT:     No!
MW:   Please? Darville!
CT:     Oh my god, don’t do this to me, for god’s sake leave it alone – leave him out of it; Terry, shut up! Sorry that you’re in the middle of all this, Darville, but – actually Terry’s best friend, maybe you’d be able to support him, because I can’t do this anymore!
MW:   Ah no, just pop out?
CT:     I can’t do this anymore-
MW:   -five minutes-
CT:     -and I don’t want to go to the garden. Terry, I don’t think you understand anything, do ya’? I mean, it’s all literally falling down around our ears. I don’t want this anymore Terry, I mean I just simply cannot do it; we are dying, and I can’t do it. I’ve stuck around this long, I have tried to make it work, but honestly, I’ve stuck around for [unintelligible] ...that is unbelievable, but when she leaves, and that’s gonna be soon Terry, it is four years, she’s gonna leave, and I am going to resent you so much. There’s no point in just waiting around [unintelligible] Terry, I’ve gotta go now! Sorry, Terry, but I’ve gotta go!
[Long Pause]
MW:   [sighs] Well, I didn’t see that coming, Darville. Well what are we gonna do about the fireworks? It’s off. I mean you’re might as well let ‘em off now, might get a couple of your mates or whatever to watch. Don’t really think I can stomach it myself.
HA:    [unintelligible]
MW:  Cheers, Darville. Thanks for your support.
HA:   If you need my help, I’m always here.
MW:  I know you are, mate. I know you are. Thanks.
[Music begins again, signalling the end of the scene.]
