Overwolf (Who owns Curseforge) is an israeli company which is supporting the genocide in palestine and funding the IDF

A lot of modders have been steadily moving to Modrinth to publish their mods, but a lot of mods and modpacks are stil available only through CurseForge or FTB apps (FTB is partnered with Overwolf).

if you are using the CurseForge launcher, I'm here to tell you that you can very easily migrate to PrismLauncher.

Thankfully, the CurseForge launcher offers a convenient way to extract your instances (profiles as it calls it) which you can then import into Prism.

Go into your profile and press the 3 dots. There, click "Export profile"

Select all the files and folders

This will create a zip file of your instance and open the folder in which it saved it. Just drag and drop the zip into Prism.

With certain modpacks, Prism will show you a message saying some mods aren't available for download through 3rd party launchers. It will give you a link to the mod as well as the folder which it is watching. Just manually download that mod into that folder and Prism will take it and put it where it needs to.

Ta-da! Your instance is now on a different launcher, with all your worlds and settings.

About Sims 4 Mod Manager

It came to my attention a few days ago that a popular program used for sorting custom content, Sims 4 Mod Manager, is based on Overwolf software. The issue with this is that ad placements on Overwolf programs give a 20-30% cut to Overwolf directly. As stated on their website. I know it is an Overwolf program because you can find Overwolf files within it:

Personally, I do not mind un-obstructive ads on free programs as long as they are vetted by the developer, but I do not want to give Overwolf any money. So I will be kindly contacting the developer via the contacts on his website and ask he divest and use a different avenue with the ads. Maybe moving to github instead. He is also recently released a curseforge integrated app.

If you are to request the divestment, please please do so with respect as to invite people INTO the conversation and not put them in a defensive position. No one likes to listen when they are being threatened or harassed. 🤷‍♀️

I know many will be disappointed with this news as it is a great, one of a kind program, so I wanted to offer some alternative methods besides manually sorting custom content:

Sims 4 Mod Assistant: A small app used to find duplicates and mod conflicts. Also supports filtering and moving files to other folders. Available on Mod the Sims and Github.

S4Pavir: It's not that pretty, but it can be used to view, remove, and sort cc. Available on Github.

You can also use sims tray importer to sort through cc. Dress your sims in all the cc you want to remove or place build/buy items on a lot. Save the sim/lot to your library and use Sims 4 tray importer to view the list of cc used, and open its file location to delete. Available on Luniversims (.fr)

Sims 4 Studio can also be used to view, edit, and delete cc. Available here.

Let me know of any other methods you know or notify me if there are any issues with these two programs.

Hopefully there is a positive outcome with reaching out to the creator. Please be respectful and you can use my pinned post as a reference for why curseforge is a problem. 🙏

Update on Sims 4 Mod Manager

After going through the older versions of Sims 4 mod manager I have found out that Version 1.0.9 Beta (Windows 10, 11 for me) does not have Curseforge ads. I think this is suitable option to use the mod manager without giving direct ad revenue to Overwolf/Curseforge.

When you go to the Sims 4 Mod Manager site, click other versions and scroll until you find this version. It does not have all the current features, but it works. You can uninstall your current version by searching the app in your start menu (Windows), right click and select 'uninstall', and click 'uninstall' again once you find it in the list that comes up.

(I do not have Mac, so I do not know if the later version 1.1.3 Beta, will also not have ads. If you download it please let me know.) I will update my original S4MM post with this info and also put it in a reblog so hopefully everyone can see this.)

It doesn't have the sort to subfolders option, but my way around that is to sort cc into a "moving folder" and then open your regular file explorer and cut and paste those items to your sub-folder manually. Easy peasy!

The modder argument is a fallacy.

We've all heard the argument, "a modder did it in a day, why does Mojang take a year?"

Hi, in case you don't know me, I'm a Minecraft modder. I'm the lead developer for the Sweet Berry Collective, a small modding team focused on quality mods.

I've been working on a mod, Wandering Wizardry, for about a year now, and I only have the amount of new content equivalent to 1/3 of an update.

Quality content takes time.

Anyone who does anything creative will agree with me. You need to make the code, the art, the models, all of which takes time.

One of the biggest bottlenecks in anything creative is the flow of ideas. If you have a lot of conflicting ideas you throw together super quickly, they'll all clash with each other, and nothing will feel coherent.

If you instead try to come up with ideas that fit with other parts of the content, you'll quickly run out and get stuck on what to add.

Modders don't need to follow Mojang's standards.

Mojang has a lot of standards on the type of content that's allowed to be in the game. Modders don't need to follow these.

A modder can implement a small feature in 5 minutes disregarding the rest of the game and how it fits in with that.

Mojang has to make sure it works on both Java and Bedrock, make sure it fits with other similar features, make sure it doesn't break progression, and listen to the whole community on that feature.

Mojang can't just buy out mods.

Almost every mod depends on external code that Mojang doesn't have the right to use. Forge, Fabric API, and Quilt Standard Libraries, all are unusable in base Minecraft, as well as the dozens of community maintained libraries for mods.

If Mojang were to buy a mod to implement it in the game, they'd need to partially or fully reimplement it to be compatible with the rest of the codebase.

Mojang does have tendencies of *hiring* modders, but that's different than outright buying mods.

Conclusion

Stop weaponizing us against Mojang. I can speak for almost the whole modding community when I say we don't like it.

Little update on our projects in the future

Due to concerning recent developments with Overwolf (who owns CurseForge) we have decided we will not be putting any of our projects on their platform. You will be able to find us on Modrinth when our projects are released. This includes Squashed and the Dye Mod.

The reasoning being Overwolf's involvement with funding the IDF, encouraging others to do the same, as well as numerous other issues and decisions the platform has made as of late that makes experiences worse for both creators and users.

As a user, I would encourage you to use alternatives like Modrinth and Prism Launcher. To any other modders out there, I would recommend abandoning Curse as a platform and moving to Modrinth as well.

Paisley's Bridal Boutique Mod is getting a major revamp for Stardew 1.6!

More hats, shirts, and pants for weddings and festivals will be added, full animation for all pants and dresses will be possible, and an updated look for Paisley's boutique tent will be included in version 1.3.0

A Message for Everyone

If you visit my Patreon page, my website, and/or my CurseForge page, I thank you with my whole heart. But I do want to address some controversy currently ongoing in the Sims community.

Just last week a series of update patches was released for The Sims 4, as well as a new expansion pack. Each time this happens, mods break and must be updated.

Many mod creators, such as myself, do this as a hobby and in our "spare" time. Please have patience with us! Some people have "attacked" mod creators for not releasing updates quickly enough!

I know that some of you have gifted your hard-earned dollars to me, a couple of dollars here and there, and I thank you. (I sometimes have enough in my PayPal account to get a couple of my favorite Starbucks drinks because of your generosity.) Your gifts are welcomed and appreciated, but all of my mods are free to everyone all the time - this is not my full-time job. I work 40-50 hours per week at a very demanding career, plus have a family, and as many of you know, I've struggled recently with a serious health condition. (I've had 7 surgeries in the past 2 years.) This leaves very little time, or energy, for my hobby of playing and modding The Sims 4.

As I write this, it is 4:00 AM. I am the only one awake in my household, and working to update mods before I head off to work, as I have been each and every day since the patches and expansion pack released. I am exhausted, and often think of stopping this nonsense (not just mods, but all content creation, and even no longer playing video games). But for now, I continue, because it provides a bit of satisfaction when a mod works.

I only ask for your patience and kindness. Not just for me but for all mod creators. I assure you that we are doing our best. And most, like myself, share our work with you for your enjoyment, and not for any financial return or recognition. Life is stressful enough. Let's share some kindness!
