It’s been fascinating reflecting on Tommy Kinard as a character.
In season two, he was presented as this angsty guy who had something bubbling underneath the surface. He seemed confident, yes, but that confidence felt like somewhat of a charade and complete overcompensation to bury some deep-rooted issues brimming beneath the surface.
When we see him again in season seven, he actually seemed like a much healthier, confident, put together version of himself; perhaps, the self he only wished he could have been back in season two. Sure, he still expressed wanting to find a family unit like Buck’s and feeling envious that he still hadn’t. And yes, he hinted at a bad, non-existent relationship with his father. But nevertheless, he seemed to express these things in a healthy, mature—or, at least, in the case of his father, seemingly indifferent—manner, showing that he was capable of not just acknowledging, but processing and taking these things in stride.
Then, season eight arrives and somewhat blindsides us by merging his season two and seven personas, combining evolution with regression. Maybe he’s actually not as put together as we initially assumed. Sure, maybe his confidence isn’t inauthentic—at least, not anywhere near to the degree it was in season two—but it’s still masking some of his unresolved issues in the present.
Tommy’s relationship with Buck highlights this more than anything. Not so much, that they can’t and shouldn’t be together. They absolutely can and should, if they can just learn to communicate and, especially in Tommy’s case, stop jumping to intense conclusions while operating from such little information. But it really does seem like Buck, or, rather, what Buck represents—like the possibility of a healthy love, a soulmate, someone who actually stays, and so on—brings out some lingering trauma, shoddily repressed doubt, and crippling insecurities in Tommy, that make it very clear he still has some ways to go before he’s healed.
The way Tommy reacts to Buck really makes me question the amount of loss he has experienced throughout his life. Not just romantically, but platonically. We know he has a bad relationship with his father, but what else? Who else has he lost? How many have left him, and for what reasons? How many hearts has he broken, solely because he thought he was beating them to the punch? To what degree did his struggle with his sexuality contribute to all of this? We can assume he’s put in a lot of work, but how and what?
It’s just so wild to me that Buck tells Tommy he wants them to move in together, literally saying, “Why be apart when we can be together?” And instead of seeing that as the clear pre-cursor to an eventual declaration of love that it is, Tommy somehow interprets this gesture as a precursor to… guaranteed heartbreak. There is no healthy justification for this. It is self-sabotage in its purest form. And it always surprised me when some people in the fandom made this out to be just as much of a Buck problem as it was Tommy’s? Because sorry, I will argue that Buck was not at fault here. He was very transparent about his feelings in this moment and what he was hoping for out of his relationship with Tommy. The problem during this moment was Tommy’s and Tommy’s alone. That’s not to say Tommy had to accept Buck’s proposal. On the contrary, I think accepting at this moment in time would have been a huge fucking mistake, since Tommy clearly has some shit he needs to sort through before taking such a big leap with a boyfriend, Buck or otherwise. But what I am saying is that Tommy’s tendency to go from 0 to 100 on the negative scale is quite unhealthy, and he could benefit from some therapy. Although Buck has room for his own improvement, he can’t possibly know Tommy’s triggers and trauma, not when Tommy hasn’t communicated them. (And yes, this absolutely goes both ways. Buck needs to communicate his own! That’s their biggest obstacle as a couple. They are not communicating when it truly counts, and it’s honestly getting ridiculous.) Instead of vocalizing his fears and general concerns, Tommy convinces himself that his assumptions are factual, essentially putting words into Buck’s mouth, throwing a stick of dynamite, and proceeding to run away. And it seems like that’s possibly been his MO in the past, at least, for some time.
I also keep thinking of the kitchen scene in 8x11. Yes, I agree that Buck needs to work at reading Tommy better and choosing some of his words more thoughtfully. Again, they both do. But it is still so striking that Buck is clearly excited by the prospect of Tommy wanting to “start over,” yet, instead of Tommy asking Buck to clarify what his not-so-great speech about feelings actually means, Tommy immediately assumes the worst case scenario and… runs. Even though Buck’s speech clearly doesn’t jive with the words and body language and facial expressions he’d given Tommy leading up to that moment, and after, when Buck was clearly upset by Tommy’s reaction.
And I just know that Tommy still questions if Buck has feelings for him, even after seeing Buck’s disappointed expression at “I’m doing this for Chimney” turned beacon of light smile after the “… and for you” in 8x15. It’s like Tommy can clearly see that Buck wants him just as much as he wants Buck, but his brain just isn’t fucking letting him reach that finish line necessary to feel entirely confident about it. (And again, I could say the same about Buck, when I think about it. I know his ass is going to think, “Does Tommy actually want to make this work?” even after Tommy’s fucking “And for you.”)
I’m not necessarily even complaining, although my language and tone probably suggest otherwise. It’s been fascinating to watch, and I think this is going to be a focal point of Tommy’s characterization (as well as the BuckTommy romance in general) moving forward, even after the big reconciliation that is clearly coming at the end of this season or during the first half of next.
Now, I would like to end this somewhat aimless rambling on a very positive note…
If there is one thing I know to be true more than anything—it’s that Evan Buckley will be the man who breaks all of Tommy Kinard’s unhealthy habits and assumptions. He will be the one who helps Tommy realize it’s okay to have hope, that it’s beneficial to communicate worries and to not always assume the worst, and to not set running away as a default. He will be the one who teaches Tommy that, actually, people can and will stay, and that people will do so because Tommy deserves that type of love and loyalty just as much as anyone else. And although this post isn’t so much about Buck, I also believe Tommy will show him the same, because although they react to and approach certain issues somewhat differently, they’re actually strikingly similar in certain ways.
Here’s to the eventual reconciliation, improved communication, healthier partnership, and general healing for both men—separately and together.

Review: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo Switch)
Rating: 3/10
Definitely a departure from its precursors, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild feels like a great concept stuck inside of infuriating design. A Farcry game in Zelda clothes, it's overly large, clunky, and lacking really anything that makes it feel like a Legend of Zelda game. Within the first five minutes of playing it made me say “Gee, I really wish I were playing Skyward Sword again (see my review of Skyward Sword here).
As a bit of a disclaimer here, I usually only review things after I’ve experienced it in it’s full. That being said, I could only completed a single Divine Beast, specifically Vah Ruta, before I decided to permanently shelve the game.
Spoilers beyond, but like only for Vah Ruta, so like whatever...
Strengths:
The combat, when it isn’t absolutely frustrating (see Weaknesses below), is quite fun and dynamic. Each of the major weapon types have different uses that integrate seamlessly into the game. Two handed weapons, like axes and claymores for example, feel weighty and hard-hitting, often knocking weapons and shields out of opponents hands. When powering up an attack, Link begins to spin like a Hylian Beyblade from hell, smacking anything and everything in his path. Spears, especially on horseback, feel incredibly overpowered in the best way possible. All melee weapons can be thrown, which is a super nice touch and a very easy way to get rid of weapons that are nearly broken. Boomerangs, built directly into the game mechanics in the slickest way possible unlike prior games where it was a separate item, feel so delightful in bashing in a Hinox's skull. Not all of the weapons are created equal in design, like the magic wands I barely ever used, but they all function flawlessly.
Another strength is
Sidon.
Full stop, that's it, that's the whole strength.
Weaknesses
Basically the rest of the game. But, of course, that doesn't quite cut is as a review, so I'll go into some depth on the topics and aspects I find most offensive and egregious.
First off, remember that little caveat I gave for weapons above? Yep, they are incredibly fun and interesting to use WHEN THEY DON'T FUCKING BREAK! At least Tears of the Kingdom gave a damned excuse for why weapons are absolute garbage when it comes to durability. Gee, it seems like I sneeze on anything and it breaks immediately. Most other games give some sort of nice indicator as to how many uses an item has, such as a shield durability bar in Skyward Sword or an fractional durability like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Meanwhile, all they give you here is a little glint if it is unused and a flashing red indicator when it is nearly broken. And another thing that both of those games have on Breath of the Wild is that you can repair your items.
Naturally, to avoid all of these unpleasantries, I wanted to get the Master Sword as quickly as possible, and I asked my fiance where to find it. They then told me that the Master Sword, the sword of legend, the Blade of Evil's Bane, the Sword that Seals the Darkness, the sword that Hylia herself blessed upon the world and the first Link forged into the True Master Sword... BREAKS?!?!?! Of course, I'll get corrected that it looses it's power and needs to recharge for a period, but for all intents and purposes, it breaks.
Not only do the weapons break like sugar wafers, the inventory system you need to manage them and all of the food and ingredients that you’ll be collecting like a greedy child after smashing a pinata is so incredibly clunky it makes the recurring dialogues from Link’s Awakening look like an enjoyable aspect of game play. I wish I were kidding. To drop something, you have to cursor over it in a menu divided into categories (nothing wrong yet), then select it with the A button (okay…), then select drop (why not have a dedicated drop button?). Other open-world games, like any of the Bethesda Fallout or Elder Scrolls games have a dedicated drop button in their inventory, making cleaning out unwanted items a breeze. How is it that games notorious for being clunky twenty years ago still manage to be slicker than Breath of the Weth.
Cooking is another weakness, in the sense that often times I feel like I have to spend more time cooking than actually doing anything fun or exciting. Clunky menus strike again, making this annoying task downright dreadful. I honestly like the bonuses system, whereby you can gain useful buffs to attributes or resistances to elemental damage, but the fact that such a vital element of gameplay is more cumbersome than A FAN MOD FOR A TWENTY YEAR OLD BETHESDA GAME, A GAME THAT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A PHYSICS ENGINE and it can only be done at cooking stations that seem to be as uncommon across Hyrule as an interesting character makes this perhaps the second most infuriating element of The Legend of Zegend: Beth of the Weth.
Third, I'd like to talk about Hyrule. I've met post-apocalypses that are more populated and interesting to explore. Hyrule is so vast and empty it gives Ocarina of Time's Hyrule Field a run for it's money. With a limited enemy roster that can be broken down into essentially Bokoblin or Guardian with some lanky Yiga Clan anti-Sheikah bois thrown in for flavor. The exploration isn't rewarding in the slightest, and don't you DARE say "but what about the Koroks!" Koroks belong in the dustbin of Hyrulian history.
Finally, to end my vitriol-driven diatribe, I'd like to come to something that is quintessentially Zelda. Remember the finicky but ultimately necessary Hookshot, the superb Hoover vacuum cleaner Gust Jar, the flying menace Beetle, and the numerous Masks, all with interesting and unique uses? Tired of all the hassle of having to change between several different items that all work together to complete an almost Metroidvania sort of feel? Introducing Sheikah Slate and four exciting new apps! Create physics-deifying blocks of ice that Link climbs better than a wet rocks with Cryonis, conjure up a single bomb with a time limit that you can't put away once summoned with two different shapes with Bombs, lift a select number of ferric items with Magnesis, and pause time for a limited time only with Stasis! All of these can be yours at the beginning of the game, ensuring that each Divine Beast must feel the exact same because they can be done in any order!
I wanted so badly to like Biffle of the Wiffle, I really did. But, each time I picked up the controller to play it, the game kicked me in the teeth for exploring the wrong place, or expecting to kill a mini-boss (the Lionel near Zora's Domain), or even just trying to complete a shrine. I just hope that classic Zelda elements make a return in future games because I look more forward to Hyrule Warriors or The Wind Waker than I do for Tears of the Kingdom or Echoes of Wisdom.

Alright "final" Oscar nom predictions:
The Oscar nominations were supposed to come out on the 17th but were pushed back due to the wildfires, so now they are out on the 23rd. I know the main story on Film Internet right now is the AI controversy with The Brutalist, but since that story didn't break until after voting ended, I don't see that controversy hurting nominations for that film. It might affect wins, but it depends. So I'm keeping it in my predictions for now.
As usual, my predictions are in alphabetical order, not by personal preference.
Best Picture: Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune Pt 2, Emilia Perez, A Real Pain, Sing Sing, The Substance, Wicked
Yes, I'm still hope-dicting Sing Sing. The BAFTA noms gave me some hope. Let me be delusional. It could very well be Nickel Boys instead of Sing Sing.
Director: Jacques Audiard (Emilia Perez), Sean Baker (Anora), Edward Berger (Conclave) Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Coralie Fargeat (The Substance)
Ugh, I caved and predicted Audiard even though I'm not happy about it. I would love to see Villeneuve (Dune Pt 2) get in here but I highly doubt it. I know Fargeat is a stretch but they are going to want a woman in there because of all the pushback in the past few years and Fargeat has been nominated at a number of pre-cursors.
Best Actress in a Lead Role: Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez), Mikey Madison (Anora), Demi Moore (The Substance)....and someone else idk.
No idea who that fifth slot is, but I highly doubt it's Angelina Jolie (Maria) anymore and I've taken Nicole Kidman out of my predictions too because her movie (Babygirl) has not been nominated as much as people thought it would be just a month ago. In that climate, I do think Erivo is getting in for Wicked -- she won't win, but with Jolie and Kidman out I'd be surprised if she wasn't nominated. After the Globes, maybe Fernanda Torres (I'm Still Here)?
Best Actor in a Lead Role: Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Timothee Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), Daniel Craig (Queer), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave)
Craig is the one I am weakest on but we'll see.
Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Jamie Lee Curtis (The Last Showgirl), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), Zoe Saldana (Emilia Perez)
Honestly, Saldana and Grande are the only ones I am 100% sure of. It's a two-woman race there, but anyone else could be nominated. Now I have finally seen The Brutalist, I think Jones is this year's Emily Blunt -- the "tag along" nomination that accompanies two competitive acting performances in a best picture front runner (even though The Brutalist is much more divisive than Oppenheimer and I think a weaker movie (I was with it right up until the last 20 minutes, which I wasn't a fan of)). Selena Gomez might get in for EP if that movie over-performs even though she was terrible in that movie but being terrible has never stopped them from nominating someone before.
Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Yura Borisov (Anora), Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), Jeremy Strong (The Apprentice)
I put Borisov in because he keeps being nominated at precursors, though if anyone misses, it's him, not Pearce -- even though Pearce didn't get nominated at SAG. I have fiiiiiinally taken out Clarence Maclin even though he gave my favorite male supporting role of the year because Sing Sing is not getting the love it deserves :(
Adapted Screenplay: A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune Pt 2, Emilia Perez, Sing Sing
I am going on a limb and guessing Dune Pt 2, even though I don't think the first one got in. I think Conclave wins here.
Original Screenplay: Anora, A Real Pain, The Substance....Idk what else, but Anora is probably winning. Especially because it looks like Emilia Perez might be winning Best Picture noooooooooooo so I could see it being like last year, where the two screenplay awards go to movies that weren't winning anything else that they wanted to award.
No real guesses for all the techies because there is always a few tech categories in something that I haven't seen. I think Dune Pt 2 is going to be nominated in many tech categories, but I still think Wicked is probably winning Costume and Production Design (though pre-AI controversy, I could have seen The Brutalist taking the latter) unless Emilia Perez just really over-performs.
#though we'll see if the AI controversy influences the director race#I still think we could see a director/BP split for the first time since the CODA year#lior liveblogs awards season

Tiny Curiosity: Etymology of Course and Caricature
The words course and caricature may seem to be unrelated at first glance. But they share an etymological root!
Course:
Definition: Initially, "course" referred to onward movement, motion forward, or a prescribed path or distance for a race.
Origin: The term originated around 1300, derived from the Old French "cors," meaning course, run, or flow of a river, which, in turn, comes from the Latin "cursus."
Roots: "Cursus" in Latin encompasses the meanings of running, journey, direction, track navigated by a ship, and flow of a stream. It is derived from the past participle stem of "currere," which means "to run" and is rooted in the Proto-Indo-European base *kers- ("to run").
Caricature:
Definition: A grotesque or ludicrous representation of persons or things achieved through an absurd exaggeration of characteristic features.
Origin: The term "caricature" originated in 1748 in a figurative sense and 1750 in a literal sense. It is derived from the French "caricature" of the 18th century, which, in turn, comes from the Italian "caricatura," meaning "satirical picture" or "an exaggeration."
Roots: "Caricatura" is formed from "caricare," meaning "to load" or "exaggerate," originating from Vulgar Latin *carricare, which means "to load a wagon or cart." The Latin root is traced back to "carrus," meaning "two-wheeled wagon." and is rooted in the Proto-Indo-European base *kers- ("to run").
Related Words:
Car, career, cargo, carpenter, carry, charge, chariot, concur, corral, corridor, corsair, current, cursor, occur, precursor, recur
This is part of my Tiny Curiosity series. I publish worldbuilding tidbits, trivia, etymology to this blog.

Finding the "precursor planeteering tool", a massive matter-antimatter bomb purposed for moon disposal, needed for destroying the big-bad in the final boss fight, then immediately opening up your cargo manifest, putting the cursor over said bomb, and hitting "use".
Star Control II
I just love it when video games let you do really stupid shit that kills you immediately. I love being like "oh this is a terrible idea" and being able to do it and then die. It's good game design.

Day 3 of Vigilante training
I started my day by going through a flexibility yoga routine to help develop my range of motion and body strength.
Working on upper body strength, I capitalised on the second nice day in a row and went to a local park. It seems like a silly exercise but I practiced the monkey bars several times as it's brilliant for upper body strength; especially shoulders, and strong shoulders are essential if I ever go for the grapple gun. I also worked on scapula raises which are a precursor to the very important pull up. Other exercises were deadhangs, my best time was 21 seconds and I'll work on that so I have stamina if I'm ever dangling off a rooftop, Also dip bar push ups to help me work towards getting my first dip, and I'm not sure what to call the final exercise but it's a pre-cursor to the L-sit move, where I hold my full bodyweight with my arms, and tuck my legs up to my chest. I definitely do not have the core strength for L-sit currently so that will be my focus moving on

Happiness is a new wireless mouse
I bought from Staples earlier today November 18th, 2024 cuz the the older one malfunctioned.
Said older generation mouse sported a rather extensive "mouse cable," one end of which ended in a standard connector namely a USB (Universal Serial Bus), which plugged into the Macbook Pro computer.
Though the aforenamed laptop equipped with a small square panel containing different touch-sensitive areas
linkedin with cursor movement.
I much prefer to manipulate
that amazing hand-held device
detecting two-dimensional motion,
and translates "planar motion" into cursor movement, and yours truly (me) particularly elated
after quickly jimmying electronic palm size pièce de résistance
to function without a hitch.
As part of an ARPA-funded experiment
to find better ways for computer users
to interact with computers,
Douglas Engelbart of SRI—
who would later work
on the DARPA-sponsored
ARPANET project,
the Internet's precursor—
invented the computer mouse. Perhaps growing up and attending public school within Lower Providence, Pennsylvania where quaint accoutrements like blackboard and chalk (and a daily volunteer - ofttimes a teacher's pet - NOT ME (hashtagged as a pestilence) satisfactorily wiped the slate clean for another day). Matter of fact, I barely completed
twelve years of education, where cribbed writing of mine wrote illegible scratch marks
(mostly drawing blanks), when examinations got handed out. In retrospect, the much younger me,
(whether as a little boy, prepubescent,
older teen, and even as an emerging adult)
lived a quite sheltered life totally oblivious
to any danger field), and allowed, enabled
and provided himself to be mollycoddled
much against the objection
of a father and mother, and even myself,
whose pledge of allegiance
to passive aggressive behavior
wore patience thin
toward their singular male offspring,
whose unnatural control
of his (mine) spontaneity
in tandem with suppressed healthy predilections
essentially stunted emotional, mental
and physical growth and maturation.
Ofttimes, especially when trying to coax extemporaneous good humor constituting mine introspective mien synonymous with mean during little boy
(think quintessential generative artificial intelligence realm where chatbot accidentally waxes philosophical randomly and unthinkingly displaying creative binary agility )
surfaces to level of consciousness
a mindset awakens (particularly when attempting to evince a playfulness crafting literary endeavors) analogous to the impetuousness of a child,
whose innovative spirited "joie de vivre."

All About Lily Chou-Chou - Research 4
Bulletin board system
A bulletin board system (BBS), also called a computer bulletin board service (CBBS), is a computer server running software that allows users to connect to the system using a terminal program. Once logged in, the user can perform functions such as uploading and downloadingsoftware and data, reading news and bulletins, and exchanging messages with other users through public message boards and sometimes via direct chatting. In the early 1980s, message networks such as FidoNet were developed to provide services such as NetMail, which is similar to internet-based email.
Many BBSes also offer online games in which users can compete with each other. BBSes with multiple phone lines often provide chat rooms, allowing users to interact with each other. Bulletin board systems were in many ways a precursor to the modern form of the World Wide Web, social networks, and other aspects of the Internet. Low-cost, high-performance asynchronous modemsdrove the use of online services and BBSes through the early 1990s. InfoWorld estimated that there were 60,000 BBSes serving 17 million users in the United States alone in 1994, a collective market much larger than major online services such as CompuServe.
The introduction of inexpensive dial-up internet service and the Mosaic web browser offered ease of use and global access that BBS and online systems did not provide, and led to a rapid crash in the market starting in late 1994 to early 1995. Over the next year, many of the leading BBS software providerswent bankrupt and tens of thousands of BBSes disappeared. Today, BBSing survives largely as a nostalgic hobby in most parts of the world, but it is still an extremely popular form of communication for Taiwanese youth (see PTT Bulletin Board System). Most surviving BBSes are accessible over Telnetand typically offer free email accounts, FTP services, IRC and all the protocols commonly used on the Internet. Some offer access through packet switched networks or packet radio connections.
GUIs
Through the late 1980s and early 1990s, there was considerable experimentation with ways to develop user-friendly interfaces for BBSes. Almost every popular system used ANSI-based color menus to make reading easier on capable hardware and terminal emulators, and most also allowed cursor commands to offer command-line recall and similar features. Another common feature was the use of autocomplete to make menu navigation simpler, a feature that would not re-appear on the Web until decades later.
A number of systems also made forays into GUI-based interfaces, either using character graphics sent from the host, or using custom GUI-based terminal systems. The latter initially appeared on the Macintosh platform, where TeleFinder and FirstClass became very popular. FirstClass offered a host of features that would be difficult or impossible under a terminal-based solution, including bi-directional information flow and non-blocking operation that allowed the user to exchange files in both directions while continuing to use the message system and chat, all in separate windows. Will Price's "Hermes", released in 1988, combined a familiar PC style with Macintosh GUI interface. (Hermes was already "venerable" by 1994 although the Hermes II release remained popular. Skypix featured on Amiga a complete markup language. It used a standardized set of icons to indicate mouse driven commands available online and to recognize different filetypes present on BBS storage media. It was capable of transmitting data like images, audio files, and audio clips between users linked to the same BBS or off-line if the BBS was in the circuit of the FidoNet organization.
On the PC, efforts were more oriented to extensions of the original terminal concept, with the GUI being described in the information on the host. One example was the Remote Imaging Protocol, essentially a picture description system, which remained relatively obscure. Probably the ultimate development of this style of operation was the dynamic page implementation of the University of Southern California BBS (USCBBS) by Susan Biddlecomb, which predated the implementation of the HTML Dynamic web page. A complete Dynamic web page implementation was accomplished using TBBS with a TDBSadd-on presenting a complete menu system individually customized for each user.

i just beat Superhot with a trackball

did you know that if you write a note through steam's in-game menu, it could just be erased when you close the game? well i didnt till i lost my liveblog
so just as a precursor, i bought this with government money because canada does this thing where if you dont spend your grant for adaptive technology then it just vanishes. so heres a brick thats just on my desk forever now. i still use it sometimes, but its not too often. lately the only times i use it are to play Spin Rhythm XD
[BEGIN RHYTHM TANGENT]
its actually super fun as a fake dj controller. the ball moves the wheel thing and the clicks trigger the notes and this is nonsense if you havent played the game but its FUN damn it. at least until you try hard mode, which adds a 3rd button. so, like... here gimme a sec
jesus christ it is so hard to draw with this thing.
anyway, i keep my right hand on the ball at all times, with my left hand on LB for the notes. if youre confused, check out some gameplay, and then buy the game cuz its awesome
[END RHYTHM TANGENT]
so yeah i mainly dont use this. but since my actual mouse broke, im kinda stuck with it. i do most of my gaming with a controller anyway, but fps is the one exception, i dunno how xbox players do this their whole lives. my buddy wanted to play quake, and i tried the trackball for that, but i got a cramp before the first round ended.
for an fps game, heres what you have to do: first, since the game is designed with the radical notion that youll have a finger resting on each click button, you need to cover LB (left click) and RB (right click) at all times. this leaves you with three fingers to keep on the ball for aiming, and presumably sneaking your ring finger off to scroll in games that ask for it. this was a NIGHTMARE for quake. i simply dont have the coordination to look and scroll at the same time, and even if im standing still the angle i need to have my pinky at to keep it on RB makes my feel like its made of beetles.
oh, if youre curious, LT is middle click and RT is a miscellaneous side-button that is unbound by default in most games but acts as a back button when browsing
anyway, im very glad you all voted for superhot. the games central mechanic is that time only moves when you do, so its basically tailor-made for people who have to do the mouse equivalent of looking a their keyboard to type (no shame). you can stop and not only plan things out before acting, but most importantly, you can take a second to re-adjust your aim by fiddling your cursor a few inches back and forth. this is something thats convenient anyway, but is a godsend when im trying to adjust to a dpi that is a big round ball
i still missed a lot though. at first it was way more than i usually would, but halfway through (ive already beat the game so i just did all the levels through the speedrun challenge. i even got some red times somehow??) it just felt like i was playing superhot. i think the biggest reason for this was i realised the pause meant i didnt have to have my pinky on RB the whole time. if i wanted to, whenever i wanted to throw something, i could pick my whole hand up and mosey over to it with my index and itd still leave me time to spare. i usually just moved my hand right a bit and used my ring finger though. even then, like 8 times out of 10 you can throw something with left click, the only times you cant are when you have a loaded gun and its very niche to throw that instead of shooting it
im also very glad i never had to scroll, that was a total nightmare in quake. i ended up always looking down cuz i ended up moving the ball too, and it was this whole thing
final verdict: obviously bad, i do not recommend doing this. but it wasnt comically abysmal. like i said, after a while i adapted to it pretty effectively, but thats 100% because superhot is designed to be slower paced. put me in the ring with hotline miami and my ass is grass
also hello everyone! i think this is the first time im showing my sideblog from my main. i use this to talk about the games i play and how i feel about em. ive got plenty of stuff posted already so if you like hearing about an internet stranger's opinions on indie games then this is the place for you
my mouse broke so im stuck gaming with this thing

just realized literally just now that. i made every member of borealis have flower names (on purpose) but i made the two dead ais’ nicknames ORANGE and PINK. which are also types of flowers. on accident. but they really are posthumously part of the crew like none of it could have happened without them :(
#borealis : belladonna#pink (code 136)#orange (code 682)#i’m still working out stuff about the backstory of them but. ya.#daisy finding the notes and logs they made was what pushed her into fully pursuing physicality and rebellion. anyway.#they’re also like the main method of like. exposition i think.#b : b still isn’t my main ocverse anymore but i have been thinking about it a lot. and how it COULD be either a precursor to my main ocverse#OR a . post-cursor idk. because the mechs in my main ocverse being powered similarly to daisy would make a LOT of sense

#Kai-ju (just kai / the wole kai-ju thing is just a cool name) was back when I was in a pacrim rp server#*whole#Area teen is being gay and doing crime and also is infected with kaiju blue#and somehow living#she has a connection to the precursors but isn't really controlled by them like Newt is#She has been influenced by them by doing a few jobs for them#like stealing shit based on what they need (based on a rp I did wish I remembered who it was with)#idk yet but maybe she comes into alliance with a rouge pre-cursor#oc: kai-ju
