The Team Herox Hackers Group shifted its focus to "The Occupation Magazine" website, while the Ganosec Team executed an attack that temporarily took down the website of the Israeli Security Agency.

In a surprising turn of events, the "Indian Cyber Force," a Pro-India hacking group, has emerged as a significant player in the Pro-Israel hacktivist arena. They have successfully launched cyberattacks on Palestinian websites, impacting several targets, including the Hamas official website and the Palestine National Bank website.

Digital Dating & Virtual Relating: Conceptualizing Computer Mediated Romantic Relationships (Merkle & Richardson, 2000).

While the focus of this blog is not online dating but rather the effects of the Internet on established relationships, I do want to address relationships that begin online through dating apps, websites, chatrooms, and even chance encounters on various social media platforms. In a 2000 review of Internet history and the subsequent rise of computer mediated relationships, researchers Merkle and Richardson examine the characteristics of “online-offline” relationships compared to their offline-only predecessors. They note a dramatic transformation of interpersonal relationships starting at the last decade of the 20th century; from exclusively face-to-face interactions to a “new genre of interpersonal relationships” complemented by social technology (Kraut et al., 1998).

Computer-mediated Relationships, or “CMR”, have a variety of characteristics that distinguish them from traditional offline-only dynamics. Certainly, finding a partner online is a behavioral sequence “far removed from customary methods of finding attraction and intimacy with another person” (Merkle & Richardson, 2000). The “proximity factor”, which we know to be the principle of attraction that facilitates liking merely because two people are near each other or interact frequently, is no longer really at play in the Internet landscape. The anonymity of the internet does not allow much room for coy and mysterious flirtation, but rather relies upon candid self-disclosure as the only efficient way for two people to get to know each other online. Serendipitous chance encounters are much less likely online, too; interpersonal relationships come to being through “a number of variables that determine the likelihood that two people will discover an affinity sufficient enough to form a relationship”.

Merkle and Richardson clarify these patterns by outlining a model of the typical online relationships that occur in an “inverted developmental sequence”. In offline-only relationship establishment, there is usually an initial physical attraction, followed by a building of rapport and discovery of similarities, and culminating in self-disclosure (revealing intimate details about oneself to another person). These landmarks certainly appear in CMR, but occur in a different order. Usually, the rapport-building stage occurs first, through an Internet medium like a chat room or web page. Eventually, the importance of a physical attraction is diminished by the time two individuals have developed an intimate bond; nevertheless, such a bond can still lead to highly sexualized outcomes (Leiblum, 1997). In case of conflict, those who conduct their relationships entirely online can easily just “log off” from the argument, making CMR desirable to those who lack the interpersonal skills necessary to resolve conflict.

Some CMR result in a face-to-face meeting and continue into a hybridized online-offline dynamic; others end before this stage occurs. Though there is very little research on relationship dissolution in these dynamics, there is evidence to support that because of the inverted developmental sequence, abiding and fulfilling online relationships are characterized by greater self-disclosure and more personal investment. Furthermore, It is incredibly easy for those in online relationships to engage in sexual infidelity, so emotional infidelity often becomes the primary indicator of severed trust. “Cybercheating” is the term used to describe such betrayals, and it is believed to be just as much a form of betrayal as any offline act of infidelity would be.

What we have learned about the difference in dynamics between offline and online relationships implies some degradation of communication between partners (i.e. allowing either partner to “log off” from conflict, or easily conceal sexual infidelity), but more often a promotion of intimacy, self-disclosure and human connectedness.

Though it does not portray online relationships, the new Netflix series “Love is Blind” is an excellent portrayal of the inverted developmental sequence which begins with rapport building and self-disclosure and ends with physical attraction (or lack thereof). Participants in the LIB “experiment” (I doubt we will be seeing an empirical analysis from Netflix on their findings anytime soon) go on “dates” wherein they sit in isolated rooms, talking with their date through a divider while taking notes and drinking wine. The couples are not permitted to see each other until they are engaged. It illustrates the inverted developmental model that belies relationships formed on the basis of self-disclosure before physical attraction.

This case has taken an intriguing turn, with the involvement of UPI IDs, implicating well-known personalities, celebrities, and even political contributions.

The Mahadev Online Betting Scandal: A Brief Overview The spotlight has turned to Mahadev, an online betting application, founded by Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal hailing from Bhilai, Chattisgarh. The ED has cast a sharp eye on this platform, alleging that it served as a hub for illicit betting websites. It facilitated new user registrations, generated User IDs, and funneled funds through a convoluted network of anonymous bank accounts.

They employed a franchising model, establishing "Panel/Branches" for their associates, with profit-sharing arrangements set at a 70:30 ratio.

A deeply troubling aspect of this scandal revolves around the exploitation of vulnerable communities, specifically slum residents and those with limited incomes. It appears that individuals implicated in this alleged scam acquired UPI (Unified Payments Interface) details from these unsuspecting individuals, effectively using them as pawns in money laundering schemes. In return for the use of their UPI IDs, these victims were given meager sums, while the ill-gotten funds were channeled to foreign entities. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the full scope of this fraudulent activity and quantify the amount of money that has been laundered through this deceptive modus operandi.

Lavish Wedding Expenditure Raises Concerns

Recent ED raids conducted in Bhopal, Mumbai, and Kolkata have brought to light the extravagant lifestyle of the primary accused, Saurabh Chandrakar.
