Recommend a fic with an unusual/original headcanon or characterisation that you loved

I'm going to go with this one. Because ... Look, as a parent, I have issues with the way people treat Marion, Veth, Yeza.... and especially Deirta. I cannot stand her being just a monolith of abuse. Essek is perfectly capable of making shitty, selfish choices, and being his evil little twinky self without it being his mother's fault. Sure, sure, he found love (platonic and romantic) and it fixed him, whatever. But Deirta is literally hundreds of years old. She's a religious leader, she has a spouse, and likely had many children. She's 'perfect', for whatever that means in Kryn society. It drives me mad to just have "Deirta is evil and bad" with no depth, no thought to her role in society, and how awful it could be to love, and love and love, in a society that sees death as only another transition to return from in years. Elves dont' measure in days or months - they live hundreds of years/!? So yeah, this is one of a few fics that I really, really enjoyed. Maybe I should write Deirta sometime.

Recommend some fanart of an uncommon character, place, or event

You know I always like to hype our cake shop friends. Cylin's orym hime, piranya's ashton, etc etc. But none of those feel rare enough for an ask from you? They're campaign favourites, even if they're rare-r. Plus, you've seen them. So I'll give you an npc i really like by someone who isn't afraid to commit to scarring. @zmeess did an absolutely stunning Astrid Becke.

Give kudos to someone who deserves recognition for their contributions to the fandom (event mod, server mod, creator of rec lists, etc.)

I'm going to give you three. @lookoutrogue, as an event mod and server mod. The witcher fandom has absolutely no idea how much they owe this quiet account. Also, @hungarianbee and @thirstyforred together get noted for the sheer amount of lore, knowledge, and support they offer. The witcher fandom as a whole would be the lesser without them.

And of course, @continentcakeshop as a whole. Everyone in there makes an effort to encourage each other, to share in joy and pain and words and art. To be silly together, to support each other when sad. It hasn't been only a fandom server in a bit, so I'm kind of cheating. But otherwise I'd have to list everyone, for their support, their stories, their pictures, their kindnesses, their understanding. It's just a wonderful group of people that span a wide range of fandoms, but we just really like hanging out together.

Summary: A poem of an evening of self-indulgence for Eskel while he reminisces of Geralt

High in the peaks of Skellige old

In a little town tucked away

From peering eyes and wandering beasts

Reclined a Witcher in the sweet embrace

Of a well earned bath.

Warm water dripped down

The slopes of his shoulders

And through the valley

Cut between the mounds of his chest.

A soft sigh escaped from his lips,

Whistling through the notch that cut

His soul in two.

But the wound had long healed,

And Eskel could feel the tender skin

Relaxing into a softer snarl

Than what could scare even him.

As steam curled around in the

Still cool summer air,

Eskel felt his mind and his hand wander,

Aching for the loving touch of his lover.

His fingers glanced over the soft flesh of his chest,

Circling the sensitive buds

And wishing they were a pair of rosy lips

With a full winter’s worth of scruff.

Jaw clenched, thighs tensed beneath the water,

Hands slick and sliding through the fur

That dusted down

Below where wandering eyes could see.

Over his stomach,

Soft and plush from a summer

Filled with sirens and sailors,

But lacking in what could really keep him sated.

Golden eyes and silver hair

Peering up at him from where he rested

On the pillows of Eskel’s thighs,

Sharp teeth nipping at the supple skin.

His breath hitched in his throat

As Eskel’s imagination ran rampant,

Almost painfully able to recollect

Geralt’s hands wandering in tracks of fire over his body.

Eskel’s fingers dimpled his stomach

As he traversed downwards to his arousal,

Straining up to him,

Calling not for his own hand, but for the touch of his lover.

But when the Witcher closed his eyes

And blocked out the rush of the breeze around his head

And the bustling town below,

He could almost feel Geralt’s hand instead of his own.

Wrapping his fingers around the very base of himself,

Brushing through wiry hairs and biting his lip

To keep himself quiet,

Eskel dropped his head back and let the pleasure

Shoot up his spine.

He spread his legs, planting his feet

On the slippery floor of the old wooden tub,

And stroked slowly, letting the memory of Geralt’s love

Warm him to the core.

His other hand wandered slowly,

Meandering down his chest and past his arousal,

Over the soft insides of his thighs,

Chasing the ghost of Geralt’s lips.

As he twisted his hand around the flushed head of his cock,

His free hand found the soft balls that rested

So delicately, rolling his fingers

In the same path that Geralt’s tongue

Had so often travelled.

With hitched breaths and smothered gasps,

Eskel ran his hands over every inch

Of the skin on his body that he could reach,

Imagining Geralt’s chest rumbling against his own.

The thought of pacing himself,

Drawing his pleasure out

Occurred to him briefly.

But his climax was already building,

Looming unshakingly in the distance

With waves of arousal

That threatened to take him under.

What the hell,

The Witcher thought with a smirk,

I can always

Stay in the bath a while longer.

His wrist snapped up and down,

Splashing his chest as his hips

Rose to meet

Every downward stroke.

The edges of Eskel’s vision blurred,

And his mind was focused solely on

The memories of Geralt

That kept him sane on the Path back home.

The tide built and built

Cresting high and craving

A crash to shore

That only the mind could supply.

And the only thing that Eskel’s lust-addled mind

Could conjure in those fleeting moments

Was Geralt above him, pressing himself into

Every nook and cranny that Eskel could offer

And kissing him with the force of a thousand winds

Over a million sunsets.

The orgasm that trailed through his core

Like sand through the fingers of time

Was an all-encompassing embrace

Of every moment that Geralt

Had given Eskel his love.

Cloudy white ropes of spend

Dripped down the soft hairs on Eskel’s chest

Into the water below, swirling on the air

And through the haze of bright light

Behind Eskel’s eyes.

Eskel swallowed around a lump in his throat,

Happy Birthday, Cake Shop!

Today the Continent Cake Shop is 2 years old. Two years of togetherness, of storytelling. Of support and kindness and friendship. We're a very small server, focused more on the stories we want to tell than a specific fandom. We've built a sense of camaraderie and trust in these last few years. There's love and more importantly, communication. We celebrate each other's successes, support each other's stumbles. We've known loss, as much of the world has, and made new friends. Welcomed new family. Celebrated milestones together. Written and arted for an ever growing variety of fandoms. This past year, past two years, have been a beautiful experience of friendship. I wish the members of the Cake Shop another year of love and care, and I wish the wider tumblr audience the benefit and joy of a friendship built not on affability, but on the trust in being seen as you are and loved. Happy Birthday, Cake Shop.
