Exalted Secret Santa 2022: Moonsilver Shmoogaloo!
Yay for another year of the Exalted Secret Santa! This is my fourth year participating! I hope you like my characters, whomever you are reading this to choose! The post below is mostly just a copy of last year’s, but for the addition of my Lunar Lass, Leinani, whom I am actually currently playing in a game. Have fun!
Character 1: Leinani Keli’i
Refsheet Page Leinani is a Full Moon Caste Lunar Exalted from a small island chain in the West. Currently she is in the North with her fellow recently Exalted companions. She is strong, quick, and tougher than most, even before her exaltation. Part of this is due to a blessing she received from a God she thought was a representative of the local big time Volcano God. Nope. She had to leave due to the grave insult, which eventually took her to Tusk. She has a strong sense of what is right, and has major problems with cheating in a competition. That changes when it comes to combat, though. After all, a hunter should use whatever they can to take down their prey.
Lisara has the dark skin of the people of the West. Her real world inspirations draw heavily from Hawaii. She has turquoise hair which is typically loosely pulled back with a leather thong, and bright turquoise eyes to match. She is a tiny terror, at only 4′10″, but she can stare down and intimidate those much larger than she is. She is only 19 years old, and has been away from home for 3 years, so her arm tattoos are not particularly extensive. Primarily on her right shoulder she has pacific islander style tattoos involving spears, a shark, and a turtle. When she was barely a teenager, she was attacked by a tiger shark while swimming. She got it to leave by bapping it’s nose, but not before it got a good hold of her midsection. Now she has tiger shark tooth shaped scars on the right side of her belly and back. Her Spirit Shape is that of the tiger shark. Her tell is Gills down the sides of her ribcage. Clothingwise, Leinani tents towards a simple strapless blue top and loose skirt that’s easy to move in. Alternatively, since she’s in the North, she’s bundled up in northern furs. Regardless, she carries with her a short spear topped with an alchemically-treated coral head, with decorative shells on a loop beneath. She also has a necklace with a tiger shark tooth and two turquoise stones set on either side of the tooth. The tooth was in fact left-over in her belly after the shark attack. Leinani is also a Sorcerer. She learned her sorcery from a Neomah. Her control spell is Virtuous Guardian Flame which manifests as a spear made of green flame.
Character 2: Cynis Lisara
Refsheet Page Lisara is a Fire Aspect Dragonblood who is currently estranged and thought dead by her house. She is currently traveling with a couple Solars and and Exigent around the Great Forks area of Creation. Lisara might be a Cynis who indeed likes to party and have a good time, she doesn’t quite live up to the stereotypes of her House in that she doesn’t go to great excess and isn’t alright with slavery. She’s a very compassionate person who cares deeply for her friends and will fight tooth and nail for those she cares for.
Lisara is of Wan heritage, meaning she looks Real World Asian in appearance. Her aspect markings are red slashes along her face and body reminiscent of tiger stripes, and as her Anima intensifies the tips of the stripes begin to glow yellow. Her iconic Anima Banner is a giant tiger made of flames.
Clothingwise Lisara tends towards the styles of the Blessed Isle when dressing casual. One of her artifacts, a body-suit of superfine Black Jade chain, is light enough and flexible enough that she can wear it under basically any clothing that it wouldn’t look horrible with. For weapons she typically uses a guandao or a spear. Eventually she recovers her Dire Lance Flamewhorl.
Character 3: Seraiah
Refsheet Page Seraiah is a Dawn Caste Solar Exalted who doesn’t like to talk about her past. She is highly intelligent and a brilliant strategist, as well as being a master with the sword. She is stoic and thoughtful, but tends to get too focused at times and ignores what is happening outside her focus. She has had difficulty dealing with reconciling her new form and her Immaculate Beliefs, but is very private about them. She is currently traveling around the greater Great Forks area with a small circle of Exalts making a name for themselves, of which Lisara is also a member. Eventually the two come together as a couple, though there is a great deal of tension between the two at first, due to their shared past.
Seraiah is of mixed heritage, being half Wan and half Prasadi. She typically wears her long hair in a high ponytail, but has been seen to let it down in more casual atmospheres. She keeps her right arm covered in soft bandages at all times, except when bathing. The bandages cover up the fact that her arm is covered in a mass of burn scars. She refuses to talk about it.
Clothingwise, Seraiah has a few stages of typical dress. Early in her adventures she is wearing basically whatever clothes she can find that fit and are comfortable. Being a wandering Swordswoman with no money isn’t easy. After finding her circle and beginning to make a name for themselves, she is eventually convinced to spend money on a more tailored appearance. Regardless of outfit, she almost always is wearing a Jinbaori with the personal symbol of Smiling Fox on the back. Smiling Fox is a wandering swordsman who saved her from a Wyld Hunt and took her under his wing shortly after her Exaltation. Most important to Sai (what another companion took to calling her for short) is her sword, Akaidal. It is not an artifact, just a standard mortal heirloom sword. It’s intended design is a cross between a talwar and a katana. She basically thinks of Akaidal as a person, and refers to the sword as he/him.
Please have fun with them! I can’t wait to see what you do!

Drabble: Dream of a Past Life
Salem fell to his knees, clutching his sides and shoulders as he gasped for breath. His ears rang, his vision darkened and for a moment, he thought he was back on the Udo-Vansian battlefield with mines, soldiers, and bombshells exploding all around him. It felt like something detonated, blinding his eyes, muting his ears, and numbing every inch of his body. He curled in on himself, his ears ringing in the silence. He couldn’t feel anything and for a few horrifying moments, he thought he was going to suffocate.
Then a sensation radiated up along his ribs. Pain. Pain from falling, from trying to take in too much air while curled up in a ball. Slowly, he creaked back, allowing his ribs more space to expand and fill his lungs. Then he could feel it: his ribs moving, expanding and contracting his chest cavity. Salem continued gasping for air like a fish out of water. As he did, sensation began to seep slowly back into his being, but only on the surface. And it was strange, muted… as if he could only feel with the surface level of his skin.
‘What’d they do teh me?’ he thought, hugging his chest. ‘What’d they do teh me?!’
Slowly, his sight began to return. The darkness began to clear into a blurry sort of tunnel vision. Salem blinked, trying to make out what was around him until his vision finally cleared. The cleric paled and looked around. Everything was the same, but not the same. Stan was fighting, his face contorted in fury as he struggled against conjured bindings. But details were missing. He could smell the acidic smoke of his brother’s magic on stone, but glow of it was gone.
The vibrancy of their souls and magic,—the color of life—was gone! It was like seeing colors once made resplendent by the sun, washed in the grey hues of a cloudy day.  And what was worse…. he couldn't see his spirits. He glanced around, the muted feeling of dread filling his hollow chest. Riff, Cyni, Simon were gone. For all these years, he’d worked and stayed with them and now he couldn’t see, hear or sense them! A dull panic began to thrum through the parts of him he could feel. He was their cleric! Their spirits were tied to his soul, sustained by his soul! If she had his soul, were they still here? Or were they too weak without him to avoid being dispersed? Had he led his friends into a trap?
Salem squinched his eyes shut, his heart pounding in his ears. But when he opened his eyes he noticed that the things he saw had sound—muted and slightly warped, but still there. Desperately, the cleric looked, trying to make sense of what he was hearing, but for some reason everything sounded… disjointed and halved, like an orchestra with parts missing. As what he saw began to reconnect with what he heard, a horrible realization settled in Salem’s mind. He couldn’t hear souls. He couldn’t hear the rich, soulfulness, or intention in the sounds anymore! Like his vision, the colors, sounds, and feeling had been washed away like paint in the rain, leaving the world around him empty compared to the vibrant cacophony of sound and color he’d grown used to hearing all his life.
‘This can’t be happening. This can’t be happening!’ he thought and quickly closed his eyes to draw on the comforting sensations of his magic, but nothing was there. Instinctively, he tried to reach further, deeper inside him where his magic would fill his bones, his lungs and eventually come out through his hands and voice—but it didn’t come. No warmth, no coolness, no hint of the Sovereign’s touch. He was empty. His chest, his skin, even his bones were empty! He could feel it—everything outside of him, but inside, an empty gaping hole like someone scooped out his insides and made him into a numb, hollow jack-o-lantern.
No source to to pull at, no well of light to draw from. Where once was an amazing source of magic and connection, was just a deep, endless emptiness. Salem curled forward, clutching his chest and stomach. It was gone. HIs magic was gone. His connection to the Sovereign—his life as a cleric—was gone!
“What’ve yeh done teh me?” he asked, his voice hoarse and quivering. “W-what’ve yeh done teh me!?” As he looked up at the sorceress, he spotted a glowing amulet of twelve thin rings of silver, all centered around an blue gem blazing with incredible cyan-white magic—his magic!  “G-Give it back!” he shouted, lunging for the gem, only to stumble and fall at the sorceress’s feet.
A high, cruel laugh reached his ears as the witch gazed down at him. She lifted her hand and the cleric felt his body straighten with a snap. He couldn’t move. He was frozen in place by the witch’s power.
“Did you think you could command me, little one?” she crooned drifting forward so as to stroke his cheek with her slender fingers. “That you could take what is mine?"
“It's not yers…” he hissed, jaw refusing to come unclenched.
The woman laughed again, softer this time. “Aw, such a valiant spirit. You’ll make quite an addition to my collection.”
A muffled snarl of protest behind her drew her attention. Salem saw his brother’s eyes glow violet, the vines holding him beginning to smoke while small tongues of flame peeked from between the gaps of the cords binding his mouth. Seeing this too, the enchantress straightened with a smile and turned to the elder Bonachard.
“Ah yes, your brother. Whatever shall I do with him?” She asked, drifting towards smoldering pawnbroker. Stan pulled against his bindings as she approached and Salem was sure that if his mouth weren’t covered, he’d bite the woman if he could. The sorceress, however, frowned at the sight and tapped a finger to her cheek.
“Oh, now that won’t do at all,” she hummed meeting Stanley’s fiery gaze before holding up a slender hand. She closed her eyes and for a few moments was silent before she smiled and opened them again. “You have stone magic in you,” she crooned, smirking as the color drained from Bonely’s face. “That will do just fine.~"
The guardian sat bolt upright in bed, a cold sweat dripping down his body. Curling forward, the young man hunched his shoulders before running his hand through his damp, brown curls. ‘What a nightmare,’ he thought and looked up when he spotted the tell-tale shine of blue sparkles heralding his ghosts arrival.
“Sal! Are you alright?” the machine asked, flitting to and fro as it’s glowing blue eye looked its guardian over. “I detected signs of distress.”
“I’m a’right Chauncey,” the brunette answered reaching out to pat the machine. “Just another nightmare.”
“Another one?” the Ghost asked, floating up with concern. “That makes 14 nightmares this month.”
“Eugh, I know,” the fella said, rubbing the back of his neck. “An’ it’s always about the same thing too! Me ‘n’ this other guy doin’ stuff—weird stuff, stuff with spirits ‘n’ monsters ‘n’ all sorts a’ things.”
He huffed and sat up, using his arms to brace himself as he leaned back in bed. “But what’s really weird is that no matter what happens in those dreams, my chest don’t hurt. Like when I’m awake, I always have that, y’know, dull ache right in the middle a’ in my chest ‘n’ nobody knows why. But when I’m in those dreams... it don’t hurt, y’know? At least... not until this last one.”
The ghost hummed, its angular shell parts shifting anxiously around its core. “Hmmm. Probably just your mind processing all that’s happened,” Chauncey suggested, drifting close to its guardian. “I mean, you did get to meet a few other warlock guardians for the first time and their friends weren’t exactly the nicest crowd we’ve been in.”
“But the bead was in it,” the guardian said, lifting up a hand as if holding a marble in his fingers. “The bead that... that when I look at yeh, it feels like yeh, only stronger. There’s something about that bead, Chance. Somethin’ important, I can feel it.”
Chauncey glanced over to something in the room for a moment, before looking back at Salem. “Well, whatever it is, it’ll have to wait. You still have training and a recon mission to do. C’mon, we need to get you dressed.”

I was looking for clothes for Manus and somehow found this dress, which reminded me so much of @sagedarkwoods‘ Air Aspect Cynis Meara that I had to draw her in it. she was always (in)famously dressed in artful collections of scarves and sparkly things, and not much else. Meara started the campaign dancing on a table, ran two brothels and married an akuma during the course, and ended up as the richest woman on the Isle and right hand to the new Emperor, her bestie.

Might as well give a quick summary of these folks now that I’m mentioning them over here.
Basically, they’re a five person team who trained side by side at a prestigious military academy known as the House of Bells. Each wields powers derived from the five elements, Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and Wood. Having formed powerful bonds over their seven years training together, they chose to remain a team as they ventured out into the world.
Ragara Mercine, pictured above, draws her power from Earth and is the groups greatest general, leading from the front and commanding soldiers too great feats.
Ledaal Kirya draws her powers from Air and is more of a tactician, with a side specialty of information gathering.
Peleps Delphine draws her powers from Water and is specialized in targeting one specific foe and incapacitating them, preferring unarmed combat, especially grappling, over any weapon.
Cathak Jyros draws her powers from Fire and is a bit more of a balanced fighter, conjuring firey weapons to fit the situation so she can deal with any threat.
Cynis Doverae draws her powers from Wood and is a deadly markswoman who still insists on being elegant at all times, though actually talking to her reveals that elegance is largely limited to her outward appearance.
(Also as a setting note, they follow the Family Name then Given Name structure, each coming from a different Great House.)

Exalted Secret Santa 2018
*Cracks knuckles* So it occurs to me that I haven’t been drawing worth a shit this year, and as such, I have no new references. I’m removing Artisan from the equation (that old man’s had enough go-arounds) and tossing Tenya back into the ring from last year (with a story update)…but after that, shit’s getting interesting.
I apologize that most of the references are doll photos…heh.
1.) Tenya
Tenya is a goat-totem Lunar with unfixed Caste. He currently refuses the Silver Pact’s tattoos, believing that they alter Lunars from what Luna originally intended them to be - that is, highly mutable, mercurial creatures.
He spent the last 150 years serving as the fertility god to a mortal village, occasionally wandering the south with a trainee-witch (mortals he’s enlightened for the purpose of keeping the village on-track when he can’t).
As a goat totem, he can be grumpy and stubborn, and is notable for having once headbutted one of Ahlat’s bulls…to death.
His tell is a series of light silver dapples running along his sides like freckles - cheeks, neck, shoulders, chest, waist, hips, thighs. He brags that these spots are where Luna touched him during his Exaltation. While his tell doesn’t show any animal qualities, he is most comfortable with hooves, horns, and big ol’ floppy goat ears, and will bust those out whenever no one is around to call the Wyld Hunt on his ass.
[x] [x] [x] [x]
Alternate Design: Fancy Boy
Tenya is actually 300+ years old, and has been in hiding from the Silver Pact for the last 150. As a young Lunar, he fell in with Ma-Ha Suchi, and then straight up fell in love with the guy (as one does). Over the years, they developed negative feelings towards the Silver Pact, only worsening after Ma-Ha’s forcible tattooing.
Long story short, they ended up starting their own Lunar sub-faction with blackjack and hookers.
After Tenya’s loud (and occasionally murdery) criticism of the Pact nearly got both their asses killed, he went into hiding for the past 150 years so everyone involved could lick their wounds and cool off a bit. Since then, he’s returned to his mentor, and they’re right back to their old scheming ways.
[x] (Reference by Fishcapades)
2.) Soo-Yeon
So literally the only reference I have of this girl is a doll, and for that I am sorry.
Once upon a time there was a Wyld pocket, and in that Wyld pocket grew an enormous tree. She was the Queen of her forest, attended by her ladies-of-the-court (also trees) and her pet gem-spiders.
One day, a Wood Aspect wandered through her forest, and stayed awhile. She was fascinated with him, and even long after he left, she couldn’t get him out of her mind. But she had royal matters to focus on, and so she budded off her thoughts of him, quite literally removing him from her mind.
This seed took root, and grew into a young tree. As it grew, it sang - it sang to the Queen of humans, and of the world outside the forest. No matter what the Queen did, this sapling never stopped her song, until one day, the Queen had enough and spread her roots to choke off the sapling.
This was enough to cause the sapling to uproot herself, and fearing the fury of her mother and court, she drew on memories of her distant father, her roots becoming legs, branches becoming arms, and she fled the forest into Creation.
She had enough human in her, and enough blood of the Dragons to Exalt as a Wood Aspect herself, in time. She wanders the wild places armed with only her curiosity and her bow, grown from her own treelike flesh. The sapling calls herself Soo-Yeon, because it reminds her of the sound cicadas make.
Soo-Yeon doesn’t fully understand how to human, just yet. She thinks of the world in terms of a story, and really struggles with such concepts as “lasting consequences” and “object permanence”. This is frequently troublesome.
[x]
3.) Threnn
No refs here, sorry!
A Fire Aspect from House Cynis, Threnn is not popular amongst their family. Being of noble blood, Threnn’s immediate family would love nothing more than to see them married off to a breedable man of high standing, but Threnn’s not about that noise, no, see…Threnn wants to join the Wyld Hunt (for shame!) or just go dick around in the Threshold, finding adventure and getting into trouble.
Fortunately, Threnn’s father’s business partner was able to gently encourage their parents to allow this, on the condition that he travels alongside the young Dragonblood. The family gave their approval of this arrangement, crossing their fingers that, since Threnn seemed passingly fond of this guy, it would end in marriage…eventually.
Unfortunately for them, and unbeknownst to all, this benefactor is a Sidereal with interest in seeing Threnn leave the Realm. Why? Because Sidereals, shut up.
Once safely in the East, Threnn gave him the slip (or so Threnn thinks) and eventually connected with the wayward faeblood, Soo-Yeon. Together they’re embarking on the kind of insane bullshit that only a particularly explosive Fire Aspect and a completely innocent faeblooded Wood Aspect can get up to (and they’re absolutely a thing, by the way).
Threnn is AFAB, but NB (masc-leaning). They’re lanky and honestly kind of shapeless (Soo-Yeon calls Threnn her “stick-bug”), frequently mildly beat to shit. Cuts, bruises, broken nose - all par for the course when you’re a Fire Aspect who has no concept of just…not starting shit.
Threnn has rough-hacked dark red hair and yellow eyes, and dresses plainly. Not a drop of Jade on this one.

Exalted Secret Santa.
Character 1: Seraiah. Refsheet. Seraiah (Sai for short) tends to be a fairly seriously person, but she knows how to wind down. Being a Dawn Caste, combat is like breathing for her, and she especially like to prove her skills with a blade. Due to her past, she has issues in dealing with romance. She was very strongly discouraged from even thinking about it while growing up, and then was forced into an arranged marriage when she grew up. Her Exaltation freed her, even tho she thinks she’s probably a demon now (yes, she’s a believer of the Immaculate Philosophy).
She’s intended to have more Indian (as in India) facial features. Just fyi in case your style works for that.
Her Supernal is in Melee, but she also has a strong focus in War and Athletics Charms. She is highly intelligent and a brilliant strategist, but is less sure of herself when it comes to standing in front of a lot of people and talking.
The two outfits listed in the refs are based on different times in her story. The Cobbled Outfit, as I think of it, is one that she cobbled together while being a wandering swordswoman. The second, which I think of as her Tailored Outfit, comes some time after her circle forms, and the eclipse finally gets fed up with her looking like the vagabond she no long is and makes her get some proper attire. The Jin-baori stays between the two because it was a gift from her Master Smiling Fox, with his symbol on the back.
Akaidal is meant to be a cross between a Talwar and a Katana, and she takes her sword very seriously; she almost thinks of it as a person, and refers to it as him. She knows both “Call the Blade” and “Summoning the Loyal Steel”, so she typically keeps Akaidal Elsewhere. She should probably be wearing some kind of medium armor for combat, but I haven’t designed it yet, so if you do a combat scene don’t worry about it. She has no Artifacts.
Character 2: Cynis Lisara.
Refsheet.Lisara is a scion of House Cynis, thus she was literally raised and trained to party. She doesn’t follow the stereotypes of her House very deeply, tho. She just like to have a good time. She is estranged from her House. Point in fact, they think she’s dead, along with the rest of her Hearth when they were attacked by Abyssals south of Thorns. She’s now worked with multiple Solars, and is pretty sure her doubts about the Immaculate Faith were very correct, so she has no desire to return to the Realm. She ends up in Seraiah’s circle, this being the second circle led by a Solar that she’s been in. She is very compassionate and cares deeply for her friends. Loyalty is very important to her. She embraces strong emotion, but doesn’t let it rule her (usually).
Lisara graduated from the House of Bells, but is less a strategist and more of a “give a good speech and lead from the front” type of leader. Being a 3rd edition Dragon Blood, she has invested greatly into Evocations, especially with her Dire Lance, Flamewhorl. Basically, she uses her anima to charge it up and then unleash a powerful fire tornado.
Lisara’s wardrobe is considerably larger than Seraiah’s. Since I haven’t/can’t design it all, in general she like comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in, and that preferably shows off some skin. She has a hair tube made of unalloyed red jade that she wears quite often, but not always. I have designed her armors and Dire Lance, but only from the front, as shown in the refs.
Her Aspect Markings are red slashes along the sides of her body and face that fade at the points. Also the tips of her hair turn yellow over time when she cuts it. Her eyes lightly glow orange in darkness. When she feels strong emotion or spends peripheral essence the slashes darken and the faded tips turn yellow, like her hair. Her eyes also start to glow noticeably orange even in normal lighting conditions.
She’s intended to have more Asian features. Once again, just an fyi just in case.
And with that... post done! Please, just have fun with either of them. Oh, eventually the two do end up in a relationship, but it takes a bit. Pre-thanks for drawing one of my girls, I can’t wait to see what you do!
