I should add that not only is asking a breeder questions good for you, but it's also beneficial to the breeder and your rapport with them! An ethical breeder likes a prospective buyer who asks a lot of questions (in moderation, don't blow up their inbox daily lol), it shows they're serious about this breed and the health of their future puppy.

Let's say hypothetically I'm a eurasier breeder and you ask whether I've got any cases of Dandy-Walker syndrome in my lines or previous litters. You benefit from knowing the history of my dogs to make an informed decision, and I'd go "Wow! This guy actually knows about DWLM, they've really done their eurasier homework!" And if I had only 5 puppies available and 50 inquiries I'd definitely favour those who already show some knowledge on eurasier health.

On the flip side, if the breeder seems very impatient with your questions and is pushing to make a sale before answering all your questions and just mentions ambiguous "papers" without elaborating, you might very well be dealing with a byb or puppy mill! A reputable breeder should want to get to know you and your lifestyle just as much as you want to know about them, a breeder who is completely uncurious about you and your living situation is a major red flag 🚩🚩🚩

i don’t. i use the numbers given by the dandy’s world fandom wiki, as well as the floor/twisted count scaling chart. for deciding floor, i use a random number generator from 1-30. on a similar note, twisted names will be colored as follows: common — uncommon — rare — main

how will updates affect the queue?

if a new update releases a) changes twisted rng or b) something else that would affect this blog, i will delete the future queued posts and remake them with the new changes in mind. if a new toon is added or a toon’s rarity is changed, i won’t delete future queued posts but i will fix old posts if necessary.

so like I said this happened this morning and it’s still sitting on my spirit and I need to talk about why even just past what I said in the answer

this is about more than just fandom and fanfiction to me at the end of the day.

this is about intentionally choosing kindness and empathy at a time when it’s even more critically important. because people are using fic to escape more than ever. whether you are going to work every day dealing with the public’s bullshit, or like me in that hazy nebulous No Time of quarantining and working from home, fandom is an escape. a lot of us are dealing with so many challenges. fic is solace and escape, whether as a writer or a reader or both.

and not to get witchy on main again but I was trained to believe that words have power, words have energy and you have to guard your words and use them wisely. what energy you are putting out there in terms of how you relate to others is what you attract from them, and what you are receiving. so you best make sure what you are receiving is good and nourishing and cultivating growth in you and not feeding the weeds even as you’re trying to pull them out. shit is absolutely counterproductive.

too much in fandom is about weeds. 

ngl, that ask really got to me because I was hearing the ugly echoes of T. and the Ace!Solas crew who vagued constantly and got nasty about anyone who wrote smut fic about him. being exposed to a steady diet on my dash on a daily basis was really damaging to me because it fed those internal voices of shame and self-doubt and judgment from the evangelical upbringing I’ve been trying to recover from for my entire adult life. it made me quit writing not just s*lavellan content but anything at all with Khedira.

and this kind of shit also feeds the same voices that tell me I’m gross and stereotypical because I like to portray group sex and kink in my work, that I’m ~predatory~ and perpetuating x y and z when I’m writing about women fucking each other, that because I’m bisexual and write a promiscuous Black bisexual character that I’m Bad, etc.

I mean hell, I still feel a way about the racy content I make in crime tool despite Dandy’s encouragement. it took a lot for me to keep a spicy twitter for it and I feel weird talking about it, still.

so it literally doesn’t matter that the subject of scorn is str8 women this time because all of this garbage comes from the same place of misogyny and judgment and control of women’s sexuality, the same Good Girls Don’t mindset I’ve been fighting all my life literally since fucking puberty when I was raised to fear my body because The Flesh was a cursed thing that had to be under tight control at all times or else it’s the slip and slide into hell and damnation.

if I’m really about living recovery and healing I can’t allow myself to get sucked into that. I don’t think people realize how damaging that mentality is, not just to others but to yourself. sometimes the harshest judgments we have for others reflect our own deep seated insecurities and lizard brain terrors, or can feed them. it’s a vicious cycle. and I am really, really upset that someone decided to bring that to my inbox. honestly I get more upset the more I think about it. it makes me wonder how many people have seen my fics in the tags or AO3 and have anon’d in someone else’s inbox talking about that nasty girl and her slutty sue having sex with all these people all the time and can you believe what Haurchefant did in one of her dumb fics.

I don’t say this to be self-righteous and sanctimonious because I was as guilty of this as anyone in the past. I still have those thoughts sometimes but I keep them to myself and I really try to interrogate where they come from. because I spent too long perpetuating and feeding these cycles of negativity and for what? what did it really accomplish? nobody feels good.

again I’m not talking about calling out fannish racism or homophobia or other kinds of oppressive behaviors and isms, I’m talking about regular ass garden variety “people are writing this harmless thing in a way I personally don’t approve of, therefore they deserve hate and mockery” energy. 

and lest you think I pick on DA fandom for toxic behavior, I’ll never forget the night some years ago when a particular Shepard/Legion smutfic made the rounds in the ME fandom here and everybody and their mother was roasting the shit out of it, including me. to this day I feel a lot of shame around participating that and being involved in it, because it really was a kind of mob mentality, bullying this person. and again, for what? a lady fucking a robot? who tf were we to call it weird and cringey considering more than half of us write lady fucking alien stories in the same damn fandom, self included?? it literally was hurting nobody, this person was just having harmless fun, and got pilloried by a whole heap of strangers over it. I often wonder if the author ever knew that it was happening, and what impact it would have had. I regret it, a lot.

Dan McKay announced his decision June 21 to hospital staff members in Fort Smith and Van Buren. His last day of work as Sparks’ CEO is July 15. He has served in that role since 2014, and had been with Sparks’ parent company Community Health System since 1993. “During his tenure, the two-hospital network has steadily grown the number of services available to residents in this area and improved satisfaction scores among patients, physicians and employees,” Alicia Agent, director of Marking and Communications for Sparks Health, wrote in an email. The move “offers career growth and the opportunity to move closer to family,” Agent added. McKay’s ties to the Bluegrass State also include his graduation from the University of Kentucky in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He went on to earn a master’s degree in health care administration in 1992 from Xavier University in Cincinnati. Sparks Health System’s Market Chief Financial Officer Brandon Bullard has been named interim CEO of Sparks Health System, which includes Sparks Regional Medical Center, Sparks Medical Center — Van Buren, Sparks Clinic, Sparks PremierCare and the Marvin Altman Fitness Center. Ephraim McDowell Health in Danville, Ky. operates three hospitals and is an independent nonprofit organization. McKay succeeds Sally Davenport, who is retiring, as CEO. McKay was named CEO of Sparks in August 2014, about six months after Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems completed its acquisition of Sparks Health System from Health Management Associates. HMA had acquired Sparks Health System in 2009. Arkansas Business reported Monday a potential acquisition of Sparks Health System by Baptist Health in Little Rock. Mark Lowman, vice president for Strategic Development at Baptist Health, said in an email the health care group is “constantly evaluating opportunities to partner with other health care providers and communities” but they “do not have anything at this time to announce.” Rebecca Ayer, senior director of Corporate Communications for Community Health Systems, said in an email that the health care group which owns 119 hospitals in 20 states “has not been specific about which facilities or markets may be affected in plans to divest hospitals, but we will make those announcements at the appropriate time in the process.” Ayer went on to say “We are highly invested in the future success of all of our affiliated hospitals and well-being of the communities where we operate. In any market where a divestiture should occur, we will work to facilitate a smooth ownership transition in order to maintain quality of care and continuity of services for local residents.” ModernHealthCare.com noted on May 1 that Community Health System reported revenue of about $3.7 billion in the first quarter, down nearly 18 percent from $4.5 billion in the first quarter of 2017. That was due in part, the article noted, to having 28 fewer hospitals in the first quarter of 2018. Viewed on a same-hospital basis, revenue increased 1.6 percent during that period. Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith was founded in 1887, making it Arkansas’ first hospital. Ephraim McDowell Health is named for the early 19th century surgeon of Danville, Ky. known as the first person to successfully remove an ovarian tumor. When you invest time in learning, you’re investing time in yourself and your dreams for the future. Evolving as a person happens slowly over the course of a lifetime, and when we stop looking for a magic solution and make time to grow, we can evolve on our own terms instead of letting other people dictate how we spend our time.

Your e-mail inbox will always be full of requests, and your to-do list will always have something on it. What you can do is learn to set aside the needs of others at the same time every week to do something proactive. The key is to make this practice a habit.

Ok, now for our five-step program:

1. Step One: Embrace new beginnings. Back to school is the perfect time to talk about HOW to prioritize learning because all of us remember how awesome it felt to have crisp, clean notebooks ready to be filled with great work. Those blank pages were a reflection of the person we hoped to become throughout the new year.

Even if your school days are long behind you, we can embrace this season of renewal and use that energy to kick-start a new habit.

Your Homework: List three things you have always wanted to start. Don’t rationalize them, just go with the first three things that pop into your head. Next, prioritize them 1-3 based on which one is most important in relation to achieving your goals this year.

2. Step Two: Get Comfortable with Discomfort. Many of us give up on our learning goals early on because learning something new is humbling and difficult, it really takes brainpower. No one likes to try something new only to find out they are TERRIBLE at it. In every new skill, there is a learning curve, no matter if you are learning how to knit or build your e-mail list. Instead of giving up, remember that feeling of failure means you are exactly where you should be.

Anytime I get that sinking feeling in my stomach, I tell myself how many times I found myself here and how rewarding it was when I pushed through to the next phase of learning, where your confidence grows and you begin to see the benefits of your new skill. The hard part is choosing what feels unnatural or uncomfortable over the things that feel good day in and day out. And that’s hard.

Your Homework: We all have triggers that thwart our ability to stick to our newly formed habits. Begin by listing all of the things that are “comforting” ways to spend your time? A few to get you started: Netflix, Instagram, Texting. Next, list what you gain from spending time doing these activities. Finally, I want you to visualize what you gain from learning a new skill. In what ways would this new skill change your life?

3. Step Three: Identify Roadblocks. Now that you’ve made a commitment to work through the discomfort of learning, you have to remove the roadblocks and distractions that will take precedence. We’ve created a handy-dandy worksheet that helps you identify distractions and how to neutralize their effect on your ability to focus.

Once you figure out what you need, more time, better resources, etc., we can design a schedule or find the resources necessary for you to not only get started but get back into your routine quickly if something unexpected comes up.

During this process, you will remove all distractions from the space you do your work and learning. If you need to turn off your phone, do it. You can use apps like these to block applications and time management tools like these to track the amount of time it takes for you to complete certain tasks.

If you find yourself with an insatiable urge to check your phone or surf the internet, identify the feeling and try to let the emotion run its course. Distractibility often is an escape mechanism because work and learning are UNCOMFORTABLE. If the discomfort is still unmanageable, go back to step two and spend time journaling about why you might be avoiding certain tasks.

Your Homework: Think about what you do each day. Which distractions or systems could you alter in order to make time for learning? Does your skill require you to dedicate 30 minutes each day or do you need longer blocks of time? Write down which aspects of your daily routine you could change to make room for learning. Understanding what needs to change in order to make learning a priority is key.

4. Step Four: Design Your Days with Time For Learning. We all have things we have to do on a daily basis to keep life manageable. E-mail, chores, admin tasks… and they can begin to feel like a burden if you don’t schedule the time to deal with them. The same kind of systematic approach can be applied to bigger projects like learning a new skill.

We’ve created a worksheet for you to list all your tasks, and label them as low, medium, and high in the amount of effort they take. The worksheet then helps you organize your week by task type, so your setting aside larger chunks of time to do work that uses a similar part of your brain. This was a game changer for me and has created space for me to take on not just one new skill, but three since the beginning of the year.

Your Homework: Use our worksheet to organize your daily schedule into large chunks of time. Set aside the time you need for learning and protect it like it’s the most important thing you have to do each day. If we don’t make learning a priority, someone else will tell you how to spend that time, either through email, text or a phone call. Our worksheet will help you realize how much time is wasted jumping from task to task and show you where you can find the time to dedicate to learning.

5. Step Five: Set Limits and Implement Systems that are Repeatable. Now that you’ve used time batching to organize the work you do on a weekly basis, your job is to stick to your flexible schedule. In order to make this schedule work for you, new rules/limits/systems need to be put into place to make it easy for you to jump back on the wagon when life happens— because it does. This is where people who have almost mastered a new routine as a habit fail. They make it too hard to stick to the program or they can’t find the energy to start all over again.

What I’ve done to make sure I make room for learning is to design routines around “me” time.

I built learning into a time where I used to do things that were unproductive. This includes listening to podcasts related to the thing I’m learning about when I’m driving, waiting for my Starbucks order or folding laundry.

I use timers to get “unstuck.” I have a hard time creating on demand sometimes. What I found works like a charm is dedicating 10 minutes to getting into the groove. If I am not “in the zone” by 10 minutes or 100% focused on what I’m learning, then I get to move on to what I WANT to do. I can try again tomorrow. 90% Of the time I’m off and running and making the most of the time I set aside to learn.

Lastly, if you have organized your weeks around time blocking and task consolidation, you should be able to jump back into the schedule with ease. If it feels like a chore or too overwhelming, you most likely need to do more work to remove distractions or have underestimated the scale or effort required for certain tasks.

Your Homework: Write down how you protect your time. List the tools and apps you’ll use to keep distractions at bay. Use a calendar to track the days you completed your learning and celebrate when you’re on a hot streak. The more days in a row you stick to making time to learn, the sooner the discomfort fades and learning becomes part of your daily routine.

What its for: Creating your own personal daily magazine. Flipboard links to your social media accounts and favourite news sources to give you a beautiful sample of what’s going on in the world today. Don’t worry about checking Facebook, then Insta, then BBC… Flipboard makes it super easy by putting it all right in front of you.  

Audible

Rating: 4.8 stars

What its for: Listening to books. Audible is a great way to listen to Amazon’s huge library without having to bury your nose in pages. Ideal for the girl who drives to work or wants to brush up on literature while doing her hair in the morning, Audible makes it easy to get everything you want from a book, without the book. The app lets you download stories so you can listen offline, sync your progress with your Kindle app so that you can switch between physically reading and listening, and slow down the speed of the reading voice so that you catch every detail. 

LastPass

Rating: 4.5 stars

What its for: Remembering all of your passwords. LastPass uses secure encryption technology to keep track of your login information across all devices, which means you can feel free to sign up for all of the online accounts you could possibly want. Forgot password? Definitely not. 

Pocket

Rating: 4.8 stars

What it’s for: Saving all of the stories your someone sends you, for a time you can actually read them. Whenever you come across an article, video, or link that you want to check out, save it to Pocket and read it later at a more convenient time. The app automatically downloads your stories so that you don’t have to worry about internet connection, and keeps everything organized in an interface that’s fun to use. You can save things from virtually anywhere, websites, Facebook, email, even Flipboard, and access the app from whichever device you’re on. Genius. 

Forest

Rating: 4.8 stars 

What it’s for: Growing a virtual forest with your productivity. Every time you need to focus, without distraction from your phone,  open the app and plant a tree. While you have the app open, the tree you planted will continue to grow and blossom. This app motivates you to focus on the task at hand without checking Insta every five minutes. It is based on the Pomodoro method and is an extremely satisfying way to stay focused. The more time you spend growing your trees (ie. not using social media) the more tree species you can unlock to grow a lush forest. You can even help plant real trees with the app’s partner organization, Trees for the Future. 

Raiz (Previously known as Acorns)

What it’s for: Investing your spare change. The app will automatically invest the change that you get from purchases into diversified portfolios built by a Nobel Prize-winning economist. All you have to start with is 5$, and then you can just watch your money grow, week by week. This app makes it easy and simple to start investing money, by just investing your spare change, or by choosing to make a weekly deposit- you can even start a retirement fund in the app. 

Bring! Grocery Shopping List

Rating: 4.5 stars

What it’s for: The best grocery shopping experience you can have. Create and share grocery lists with family members, so that no one forgets to buy your favorite muesli ever again. The sharing feature is great, but the app also lets you import recipes so that the ingredients are automatically added to your master list, and you can upload pictures of your favourite items so that you always have the right brand. Bring! has been praised by many tech reviewers, like Gizmodo and TechCrunch, for good reason.

Blinkist

Rating: 4.7 stars

What it’s for: Reading nonfiction books in 15 minutes. There are more than 2,000+ titles on the Blinkist app that have been carefully crafted into digestible 15-minute audio books. The app’s creators used neuroscience techniques to help listeners get the most out of the information they hear, and have handpicked all of the books featured on the app. For those with an endless curiosity and little time to read, this app is the perfect way to learn more everyday. 

Insight Timer

Rating: 4.8 stars

What it’s for: Cultivating a meditation practice. Insight Timer is a lovely (and free!) way to customize your meditation experience. There are thousands of guided meditations from the likes of Melissa Ambrosini and The Stillpoint, but if that’s not your speed, you can simply listen to a high-quality ambient song or set a timer for the amount of time that works for you. Users are reported to experience better sleep, reduced anxiety, and increased mindfulness in their everyday lives. We could all use a little more of that. 

Airtasker

Rating: 4.8 stars

What it’s for: People who would do anything to get their new IKEA furniture put together for them. Airtasker is an interface where you can post nearly any task, like putting together furniture, delivering parcels, or cleaning your home, and pairs you with a handy dandy helper. If you’re looking for a side hustle with flexible hours and good pay, feel free to take a look at their new tasks updated daily. They operate throughout all of Australia. 

Asana

Rating: 4.8 stars

What it’s for: Organizing your work, to-dos, and ideas all in one place. The My Task screen opens whenever you click open the app, showcasing your most important goals for the day ahead. Then, there are features where you can communicate with coworkers and develop boards for joint tasks. Asana keeps all of your to-dos segregated into helpful sections so they don’t get lost or jumbled. It’s a life-saver for the girl who has a couple different projects going on at the same time. 

Honourable Mention: Shapr, like Tinder for networking career women. For the people who find reaching out to others on LinkedIn incredibly awkward, this app is a great way to meet like-minded people in your field. When two people swipe right on one another, they can start to message in order to set up a coffee date or something of the like.
