Love is stored in the Zane
Have you guys ever read Wu’s journal entries in the Dark Island Trilogy? He writes one for a bunch of characters. Here’s a pic of Zane’s because it’s by far my favorite.
Tumblr media
Sorry for potato quality. It’s impossible to find HQ images of this book anywhere. If anyone knows where I can find it, lemme know. Anyway, here’s a translation:
---
Day 20
Perhaps, in this time of turmoil, it would be best to focus on the Titanium Ninja, who is always an island of calm amid troubled waters. Since the day I met him, sitting at the bottom of an icy lake in an effort to test his endurance, Zane has proven to be a constantly surprising member of the team.
Zane started out feeling like a bit of an outsider with the team, and was not sure why. He did not understand Jay’s jokes or Kai’s fiery temper. It was only later that it became clear the Zane was not human. He was a Nindroid, the first of his kind, whose memory had been turned off by his creator.
But the Titanium Ninja has grown far beyond his origins. He has formed bonds of friendship and loyalty with his teammates and others. He has gone on fighting even when logic said there was no way to win.
Most important, he was willing to sacrifice his own existence to save the world. Those are not the actions of a heartless collection of mechanical parts. Yes, Zane is stronger, faster, and more durable than a human. And yes, there are still things about how people interact that he may never understand. But if you measure humanity by a fighting spirit that never quits, no matter the odds... Zane may well be the most human of anyone I know.
I have hopes his artificial nature may help protect him from the worst effects of the Dark Island. If I am correct, he may be out secret weapon in the battle to come.
---
I. I love this so much, you guys. Wu loves and respects Zane so much.
“But if you measure humanity by a fighting spirit that never quits, no matter the odds... Zane may well be the most human of anyone I know,” is such a sweet quote! It’s so great getting to read Wu’s thoughts and feelings about his beloved ninja, since something like this is probably difficult to fit into the show. Wu loves his ninja so much, and the Dark Island trilogy REALLY highlights just why he loves them all so much...
Anyway, I may post the others eventually. I just want to make sure people know this exists, because I adore it so so much but it’s so hard to find. Best I could do were two low rez read-throughs on Youtube. Anyway I need everyone to see these because they were so good, and the Dark Island really gave some time for the characters to interact that I loved. For those wondering, it’s fully canon. They take place in between seasons six and seven, and even get a mural on the monastery wall.

It's funny seeing people discover ninjago novels from like 12+ years ago. I read them when I was 11 (22 now). It's so weird hahaha, I guess it makes sense cuz if you think about it, they all released during s1-2. So you can't buy them anywhere now (well I think there's a few websites). There are a lot of nice interesting moments and dialog that happened in the books. I think you can read them all on some google drive someone made. I'm glad people are posting about them.

So everyone already knows that Cole is a pretty bad cook.

But it's also implied that Kai is very much a bad cook as well.

I somehow only just read the dark island trilogy yesterday, but no one told me Ninjago canonically called Wu out for not telling the Ninja things?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyone who hasn’t seen the dark island trilogy highly recommend reading it. Or there’s a guy who reads through it really well on YouTube I’ll link. Show him some love!
It shows what happens directly after skybound. Clouse brought back the sky pirates himself after not being able to retrieve Nadakhan.

Ah, yeah, I haven't seen any of the pre-canon 'Wu and Misako don't like each other' stuff, other than like, one joke au from the blursed ideas blog where the idea was Wu and Misako didnt get along at all when they were younger but as they got older they became super close friends and their initial friction is more like an inside joke now that they're older.
It seemed to mostly be the basis of an idea where Chen shot himself in the foot by faking the letter to try and turn Garmadon against Wu by making him think they both like Misako, only for Garm to go 'Wu does not like Misako, the only way he would write this is if he was being held at knife point, I need to go make sure he's okay' and leaving Chen then and there
And it really is a shame that the only relationship in the Spinjitzu Family that cannon ever explores is Garm and Lloyd. Like, it worked in the first two seasons, when that was a major driving force behind the plot, and Lloyd focusing on saving his dad was the whole reason he was able to reach his True Potential, but 13 seasons, two and a half deaths, and one evil resurrection later, it's kinda beating a dead horse. Especially when they pretty much replaced Garmadon with a completely different character in s8-s9.
Like, can we at least get Lloyd calling Wu his Uncle again?
I made that post cause I got one showing up on my dash that tumblr recommended to me. It's nothing serious I'm just a lil :( cause they're great friends,,,,
It's so freaking annoying man. All we get for lloyd and misako is like. Context clues i think is the term? Like when lloyd tells harumi about a friend or something his mother told him about when talking about... I think the map? Primevals eye? It's been a while since I've seen sog lmao
It would have been nice to see more wu and garmadon in the show but at least we have the spinjitzu brothers books
And YES god PLEASE why did they have lloyd stop calling wu his uncle,,,,

Short Take: The Drowned Woods
Tumblr media
You could say I have a fascination with Wales. It began when I picked up Sharon Kay Penman’s Welsh Princes Trilogy as a teenager and devoured them. Historical fiction set in 13th century Wales filled with romance, royal machinations and more than one prince called Llewelyn. Totally hooked. Then I finally read Susan Cooper’s outstanding The Dark is Rising series. The last two are set in Wales, complete with a short primer on Welsh pronunciation, and I ate them up. It was in the final book of this series, Silver on the Tree, that I first heard of the Drowned Hundred, a mythical kingdom swallowed by the sea. When I caught sight of The Drowned Woods by Emily Lloyd-Jones, a YA historical fantasy, I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a connection. Indeed, it is set in Wales and involves a heist, so I was definitely in.
Merirad (Mer) is just trying to keep her head down and escape the notice of Prince Garanhir, the man who bought her off her family when it was discovered she was a water diviner, a human touched by the fae and able to manipulate water. He raised her to be used as his weapon but when Mer couldn’t live with the damage she’d inflicted any longer, she ran. Trouble comes looking for her in the form of her old mentor, the Prince’s spymaster. Renfrew offers her the opportunity to get free of the Prince forever with one last job. Together Mer and Renfrew assemble a crew, including a young man touched by Death, the heir to the Thieves Guild and a corgi called Trefor who may or may not be a spy of the “other folk”. Their aim? A magical well on a remote island guarded by an otherworldly boar said to protect the Prince’s kingdom by holding back the sea. Plus all the treasures the well contains. Ruin Garanhir and finance their new lives all in one fell swoop.
Of course nothing is straightforward when magic and spies are involved, and the nonstop action kept me riveted. I listened to The Drowned Woods on audio, a bonus because for once I heard all the Welsh names and places as they are supposed to be pronounced instead of making my best attempt based on that long ago lesson Bran gives Will in The Grey King. Lovers of historical fantasy and fans of Six of Crows will find this a good fit. Lloyd-Jones balances tension with humor, because nothing beats a corgi that sneezes when magic is in play. And for those who have series fatigue, this is a stand-alone. Though if you want more of Lloyd-Jones’ historical fantasy Wales, you can also pick up her previous YA, The Bone Houses. A perfect escape for the end of summer!

jade my heart I’m really feeling Peter parker tonight in this chilis. maybe just Pete listening to r go on about something she likes? Like a book or a tv show and he’s just listening but also so obsessed with her and thinks she’s adorable? I love u! 🫶🏻
ily ty for requesting <3 fem
“It’s a prequel, you know?”
Peter feels fondness for you pretty much every second of the day, but the way you’re asking without looking at him, and the way you’re laying across his lap so unbothered, he finds himself grinning like a mad man. “I did not know that,” he says.
You nod up and down with a severe sort of look about you, as though this is of the utmost importance. If Peter doesn’t get on the same page as you soon, he’s not gonna make it. “I can’t believe you’ve never seen the first trilogy. Like, I like you so much, but where the hell have you been?”
“Where have I been?” he wonders.
“Anyways, that’s not the point, sorry. They’re complicated movies. You’d like them, though. Next time I’ll bring my DVD’s and we can watch them, if you want to, you’ll really like them, or you’ll really like Natalie Portman, at least. She’s beautiful. And her character is so… complicated, I guess, she’s doomed from the beginning of the narrative and she’s the catalyst for so much but she’s also just… sorry, I’m being totally boring.”
“Says who?”
Doesn’t take much more than that to get you rolling again, you want to tell him that badly, “I don’t wanna spoil it anymore because I really think you’ll love them if you watch them, but you’re gonna need to watch the first trilogy to get the emotional impact, and you’ll love them, don’t worry.”
“I’ll love them,” he agrees, attempting to lean down for a kiss.
“Wait, is this a shut me up kiss?” you whisper.
Peter shakes his head as he kisses you, serving for a wobbly but soft press of your lips to his. “Never. Tell me everything about it.”
You talk until you’re hoarse, literally hoarse, and Peter has to make you a cup of water. His cheeks are hurting from smiling at you. You’ve never looked this cute, not once, not even when he took you to Coney Island and you screamed the house down on all the rides.
“I think we better go and get those DVDs,” he says.
“It’s dark out,” you say.
“We’ll swing.”
“Isn’t that against your code of ethics?” You sip your drink, pointing at him. “We’ll hear someone who needs help on the way and you’ll drop my extended editions to save them.”
“I won’t drop anything,” he says. “Come on! Come on, if you’re this excited just talking about it I wanna see how pretty you are when we’re actually watching the movies.”
You press your smile into a line. “You’re not just humouring me?”
“I could listen to you talk for hours, baby, but you sound like you did the second time we got off of The Cyclone.”
You do a spinning, meandering dance into his arms. “If you insist.”
Your feigned reluctance is adorable. He grabs you in both hands for another misaligned kiss.

Season 1 Wu thinks of Lloyd as an extension of Garmadon and Misako, while season 16 Wu loves Lloyd like a son.
(Thinking of the dark island trilogy where he refers to Lloyd as "the son that could have been mine")
