So everyone already knows that Cole is a pretty bad cook.
Tumblr media
But it's also implied that Kai is very much a bad cook as well.

It's funny seeing people discover ninjago novels from like 12+ years ago. I read them when I was 11 (22 now). It's so weird hahaha, I guess it makes sense cuz if you think about it, they all released during s1-2. So you can't buy them anywhere now (well I think there's a few websites). There are a lot of nice interesting moments and dialog that happened in the books. I think you can read them all on some google drive someone made. I'm glad people are posting about them.

EXPLODES
Tumblr media
including shipping this is how much i got them all for
book 1, bought in december: 13.48 usd off thriftbooks (good quality, no noticeable marks)
book 2, bought in january: 20.78 usd off thriftbooks (good quality overall, a bit of writing on inside cover)
book 3, arrived today: 41.09 usd off abebooks (quality VERY used, former library book, but still completely readable. some tiny white scuffs on most pages and a few pages are held in with clear tape. the actual price of the book was only 8 usd but i got it shipped from the uk.)
so in total: 75.35 usd, or 103 cad.
the one thing i have to say about these books as like. an explanation for why they're so hard to find? they did NOT need to be 3 whole hardcovers. half the pagecount of EVERY BOOK is just screencaps from the show recapping previous seasons. so the actual amount of content that makes up the graphic novel portion couldve easily just been 1 or 2 books or smaller comics.
but anyway for someone whose biggest ninjago brainrot revolves around skybound and is writing a fic that rewrites the events of the dark island trilogy, i am extremely happy to have physical copies of these books

I somehow only just read the dark island trilogy yesterday, but no one told me Ninjago canonically called Wu out for not telling the Ninja things?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyone who hasn’t seen the dark island trilogy highly recommend reading it. Or there’s a guy who reads through it really well on YouTube I’ll link. Show him some love!
It shows what happens directly after skybound. Clouse brought back the sky pirates himself after not being able to retrieve Nadakhan.

Love is stored in the Zane
Have you guys ever read Wu’s journal entries in the Dark Island Trilogy? He writes one for a bunch of characters. Here’s a pic of Zane’s because it’s by far my favorite.
Tumblr media
Sorry for potato quality. It’s impossible to find HQ images of this book anywhere. If anyone knows where I can find it, lemme know. Anyway, here’s a translation:
---
Day 20
Perhaps, in this time of turmoil, it would be best to focus on the Titanium Ninja, who is always an island of calm amid troubled waters. Since the day I met him, sitting at the bottom of an icy lake in an effort to test his endurance, Zane has proven to be a constantly surprising member of the team.
Zane started out feeling like a bit of an outsider with the team, and was not sure why. He did not understand Jay’s jokes or Kai’s fiery temper. It was only later that it became clear the Zane was not human. He was a Nindroid, the first of his kind, whose memory had been turned off by his creator.
But the Titanium Ninja has grown far beyond his origins. He has formed bonds of friendship and loyalty with his teammates and others. He has gone on fighting even when logic said there was no way to win.
Most important, he was willing to sacrifice his own existence to save the world. Those are not the actions of a heartless collection of mechanical parts. Yes, Zane is stronger, faster, and more durable than a human. And yes, there are still things about how people interact that he may never understand. But if you measure humanity by a fighting spirit that never quits, no matter the odds... Zane may well be the most human of anyone I know.
I have hopes his artificial nature may help protect him from the worst effects of the Dark Island. If I am correct, he may be out secret weapon in the battle to come.
---
I. I love this so much, you guys. Wu loves and respects Zane so much.
“But if you measure humanity by a fighting spirit that never quits, no matter the odds... Zane may well be the most human of anyone I know,” is such a sweet quote! It’s so great getting to read Wu’s thoughts and feelings about his beloved ninja, since something like this is probably difficult to fit into the show. Wu loves his ninja so much, and the Dark Island trilogy REALLY highlights just why he loves them all so much...
Anyway, I may post the others eventually. I just want to make sure people know this exists, because I adore it so so much but it’s so hard to find. Best I could do were two low rez read-throughs on Youtube. Anyway I need everyone to see these because they were so good, and the Dark Island really gave some time for the characters to interact that I loved. For those wondering, it’s fully canon. They take place in between seasons six and seven, and even get a mural on the monastery wall.

I'd just like to remind everyone, the Merge isn't gonna present a new opportunity to see the Sky Pirates again! Why? Because they've BEEN in Ninjago, ever since the canon (yet very hard to find) graphic novel series, the Dark Island Trilogy, which took place in-between season 6 and Day of the Departed! The show just Has Not Ever Addressed This for some fuckass reason !!!!!

Hiii, I just wanted 2 drop by and ask for what your top 3 ninjago installments are lol. like fav books or seasons or specials or games or the movie, anything like that!!
have a great day btw
i'm going to cheat heavily with this 'top three'
seabound/crystalized
dragons rising so far (at least. the first half before they get stuck in one location and separated from each other for the rest of the episodes. hoping the next batch of episodes will have them doing more traveling and/or team activities)
possession/skybound/day of the departed but the version of that trilogy that exists in my head. like there's the oni trilogy, and there's the ghost trilogy
my knowledge of the extra material isnt huge but i did love garmadon rulez, which i stumbled on the english translation of recently. i'm hoping to get around to reading a lot more eventually like the garmadon graphic novel etc. i REALLY want to read the dark island trilogy but i couldn't find a pdf
thank you :)

okie dokie let me show my age: here's a fun little Bionicle/Ninjago comics parallel
So when I was a little kid, and I mean LITTLE, LEGO Club included Bionicle comic books with their magazines. Absolutely fabulous comics, btw - you can access them through the BioMedia Project. My older brother had pretty much ALL of them and let me read them, and Greg Farshtey's writing stuck with me, HARD. These few panels from the July 06 issue of the Ignition lineup have stuck with me ever since I first read them:
Tumblr media
(Screenshot taken from BMP files. My word, what a cool project. And that art!)
So from a young age, I knew: Farshtey's writing SLAMMED. A little cheesy sometimes, but the man knew his way around punchy one liners. His stuff inspired a lot of my own fic work, actually.
Anyway, keep those panels in mind, because Farshtey didn't stop there - he later wrote the Dark Island Trilogy, that elusive Ninjago graphic novel series. Reading that for the first time a few years back, I was struck by the similarities to the Bionicle comics I grew up reading - and suddenly, with this page (sourced from right here on Tumblr although I cannot recall OP's name), there I was, reading the July 06 Ignition installment again:
Tumblr media
Like... y'all see this, right? Farshtey really said water elemental rights here. Anyway, that story doesn't have much of a point, but I love that this connection exists, and it was so bittersweet to remember that I'd read that exchange before (or something like it, at least) .
Also, go read the Bionicle comics! They're so, so gorgeous.

In like every season Wu and Garmadon are 200-400 years old chronologicaly, biologicaly 60, 70, 80.
FSM, Overlord, Kozu and the Stone Army, Khanjikhan, Mystake and the Omega are toushands of years old.
If you wondering why Akita is so old its because, Zane was the Ice empire for 40, 50 years and if Akita was like 13 when he got there that would make her like 63, 73.
