I saw this production when I was a teenager, it was.... a formative experience. Rewatching it was superfun. You will get mad scientists, Albrecht turns into a marshmallow, Wotan is a bit too much into torture, and these people really shouldve made sure they had the funds to build their house before contracting some guys to build it.

Also taking potshots at Wagner is welcomed and appreciated. I'm all for getting new reasons to hate the guy.

Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Frika (Frigg), The Goddess of Marriage and Fidelity

Well here we are another Thor’s Day and another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic) mythological characters.  This week it’s Frika Wagners name for Frigg in Das Rheingold, Die Walkure.

Frika’s name translates to “peaceful ruler". As she was married to Wotan and Queen of the gods.

DIE NIBELUNGEN, AN ANCIENT TALE OF KNIGHTLY HONOR. (Wien; Leipzing: Verlag, Gerlach u. Wiedling, 1909), Illustrated by Carl Otto Czeschka (1878-1960). Interpreted by Franz Keim.

This simply designed little book provides no indication of the riches it holds inside. The text and double page illustrations are the work of Carl Otto Czeschka, a leading member of the Vienna Secession. A former teacher, he designed jewelry, metalwork, textiles, furniture, and books.
