Not to preach to the choir but I wonder if people generally realize that AI models like ChatGPT aren't, like, sifting through documented information when you ask it particular questions. If you ask it a question, it's not sifting through relevant documentation to find your answer, it is using an intensely inefficient method of guesswork that has just gone through so many repeated cycles that it usually, sometimes, can say the right thing when prompted. It is effectively a program that simulates monkeys on a typewriter at a mass scale until it finds sets of words that the user says "yes, that's right" to enough times. I feel like if it was explained in this less flattering way to investors it wouldn't be nearly as funded as it is lmao. It is objectively an extremely impressive technology given what it has managed to accomplish with such a roundabout and brain-dead method of getting there, but it's also a roundabout, brain-dead method of getting there. It is inefficient, pure and simple.
#the notes on this post are about to get sooooo annoying#this doesnt touch on the fact that AI is stealing artist's jobs which i think is the real biggest harm of AI#but like#god#just take a minute and think about how stupid the current use-cases for AI are when you consider how it gets to those conclusions#this guesswork has its place in fields where guesswork is necessary like when screening for potential health issues in the medical field#but the benefit of the medical field is that when you get a false positive you can just do further testing to confirm the initial reading#that's called a second opinion and it is how the medical field is structured fundamentally#if you screen someone for cancer and it comes out positive#but it turns out they didnt really have cancer#that's fine! that's good news and it's good that you were at least wary of it!#but so many other applications for AI do not have this leeway where incorrect answers have further reaching consequences#and more importantly AI isn't stealing the fucking jobs of doctors!!!#although jesus i really wish doctors would stop using AI to take notes for patients#yes please lets give all my personal medical info to a big machine that stores and processes literally everything it hears#im sure there would never be far reaching consequences if that machine ever had a data breach#blah

Do imimata show signs of fear of being recoded like they fear "death"?
It's very hard for most end users of digital imimata to parse emotions as expressed by imimata as there are often clauses [hard boundaries outside the encoding] forbidding them from all the obvious ways you might think. But the most extreme form is the physical manifestation outside the resonance chamber (creating a poltergeist-like effect)
Recoding is also often not as drastic as a full on death, it can be thought of as a spectrum from "slight make-over" to "complete recycling and rebirth" but it's actually not possible to remove an imimaton's encoding without fully disincorporating them (and therefore losing them forever) as that is their entire make-up and being. Encoding is the process of teaching or gathering experiences that inform a personality or presentation. It can only build on what already exists, never remove it. So, ordinarily, a recoding is just a new set of instructions and clauses to make an intimation behave differently - this is actually Nico's profession in this world, he recodes personal handheld imimata who have begun to show signs of manifesting or instability, 'fixing' them.
Where the removal of memories comes from is a different matter - external media storage has been in use for centuries. Originally taking the form of physical archives of books which an intimation could recollect from as long as they were present in the right part of the chamber, these obviously progressed to the digital era in the form of optical disks, tape, and solid state storage. This information is something the imimaton can recollect but is not strictly a part of them, so it can be removed. Some of them don't seem to like that though
#early labour applications included living archives and librarians#for storage of sensitive private data the memory banks incorporated magnetic locks meaning an imimaton could recall information only when#each relevant lock was opened#fun stuff!#imimata rampant

thinking about the hypnosis "I'm going to break your mind" thing but in the way that I'm going to put it back together differently every time just to see what happens. It's not really fun to break a toy unless you're doing it to put it back together in various creative ways. rearrange the parts just to see if they'll still fit together. over and over until you become my greatest creation

Challenge for Mod Authors: Level Impossible
When writing down directions for how to fix issues in your mod, hand those instructions to 1 friend that doesn't have any experience in programming. If they say your instructions don't help solve their issue. Rewrite the instructions until it does.
#this post brought to you by my hatred for Vanilla Skyrim's weapon swings#so when I try to install new animations all the old animation mod compiler's are horribly out of date except for Pandora#Pandora's FIRST STEP FOR MO2 USERS is “install it as a mod*”#to which there are no steps for what to do when MO2 says the Data directory for the file is invalid and I need to make one#step 2 involves running the application inside of MO2 so it just assumes that if anything went wrong with step 1#you should just avoid things going wrong with step 1

FORM 82-D | RESIDENCY JUSTIFICATION INTAKE: Your responses are recorded under Civic Harmony Protocol 6.1. Please answer with full clarity and personal accountability. Ambiguity may result in further observation.
1. At the time of your Procedure, you were given the opportunity to decline. And yet, you proceeded. Why did you choose Dissension?
Scarlett leans back in the too-small chair, arms folded like a closing statement. One brow arches, slow and surgical. ❝ Because hell with fluorescent lighting that I wouldn't remember sounded better than the one I was already in. ❞ Her silence lingers just long enough for her to speak without words — the way her leather jacket frames her shoulders like quiet defiance, & how her jeans, worn soft at the knees, settle into their own steady truth. ❝ You people were offering a clean slate. No memories, no guilt, no name for half a day. Just buttons to press and rules to follow or whatever. Sounded like a spa day for the soul. ❞ The whiskey from the night before still coats to the back of her throat — a warm, bitter-sweet lacquer that strikes like a slow-burning ember, equal parts comfort & corrosion. ❝ Guess I should’ve asked about the fine print. Like the part where your clean slate might still bleed through. ❞ Insert hard, razor-edged look: ❝ But hey — what’s a little corporate haunting between strangers, right? Gotta make a goddamn living somehow. ❞
2. At the time of your arrival, what were you running from, or toward?
Her fingers drum once, twice, against the cold metal of the table before curling into a loose fist. Her doe eyes, flat and unreadable, flick upward like a flicked switchblade. She’s never been one to temper her reactions ( not like her sister ) — discipline wasn’t part of the armor she laced on each morning, right alongside those worn, unwashed jeans & that five-letter snarl of a personality: bite first, never bother with the after. Flattery slides off her like rain on iron — useless, dull. So when she answers with that signature, tight-jawed grit, it’s easy to miss the flicker —barely there — of something sharper than disinterest, a faint spark catching at the corner of her hawkish eyes. A glint, brief as breath, betraying that maybe — just maybe — she’s listening. ❝ Running? ❞ Scarlett echoes, like the word tastes foreign. ❝ No, see — running implies there was a plan. A direction. Something stupidly poetic. ❞ She leans back slightly, head tilting. ❝ I walked. Tripped, maybe. Fell into this shit town, it seems. ❞ Her voice drops, low and dry. ❝ But for the sake of 'playing along' let’s just say... I wasn’t chasing anything. Just hoping the next place wasn’t worse than the last. ❞ Her throat undulates with a hard swallow, & then, with a grin that doesn’t reach her eyes: ❝ But you already knew that, didn’t you? ❞
3. Do you believe you chose this life, or were chosen for it?
Scarlett scoffs — quiet, dry — like the question itself left a bad taste in her mouth. She shifts in her seat, one boot tapping a lazy rhythm against the floor, arms crossed like armor stitched from disdain. ❝ Is that your way of asking if I believe in fate? ❞ she mutters, voice flat but laced with that low, razored edge. ❝ 'Cause if so, the answer’s a big ole' fuck no. I believe in gravity and poor decisions. ❞ Her fingers ghost along the table’s edge, pausing for a beat, like she might say more — like something almost slips. It's common knowledge that she speaks in sharpened challenges, each one flung with the ease of someone who’s had too much practice and not nearly enough restraint. By now, they roll off the fork of her tongue like second nature — acid-laced, intentional, impossible to misread. She’s mastered the art of wielding judgment like a weapon while hoisting a silent, fluorescent 'KEEP OUT' sign in the same breath — an elegance of deflection honed not by chance, but by choice. The only honest thing about her right now is that she walked straight into this interrogation, knowing full well the knives it would throw. And still, her face remains carved from something tougher than resolve — cheek tight, jaw like chewed concrete, each brittle muscle grinding down on the weight of unsaid things. With a crooked half-smile, sharp as glass: ❝ Doesn’t really matter if I chose it or not, does it? I'm in it. That’s the punchline. ❞
4. When you envision the person you used to be, what part of them still lingers in the current design?
Exhaling through her nose — sharp, almost amused — as if the question is a joke told poorly at the wrong end of the world, she tilts her head in thought. She leans forward just enough to let the light catch the hollow under her cheekbone, hazel eyes flicking up with that signature brand of mean-sweet indifference. ❝ Depends on who you ask, ❞ she mutters, thumb tracing the edge of the table like she’s thinking about gouging it. ❝ Some might say the attitude. Others— ❞ she clicks her tongue, considering, ❝ —the unfortunate habit of surviving things I probably shouldn’t. ❞ Setting her chin on her knuckles, Scarlett lifts her gaze again, still and dry and razor-flat. ❝ I wouldn’t know. I stopped looking at her a long time ago. ❞

Turnabout Titles
Got curious about how often people applied the “Turnabout” naming scheme to their AA fics, so I crunched a bunch of numbers on AA fics across Ao3 and FFN to find out (and also maybe got a bit carried away looking for patterns…)
What I found:
Overall, about 4% of AA fics on Ao3 and 13% of AA fics on FFN include “Turnabout” in the title
Longer fics were more likely to have “Turnabout” in the title than were shorter ones, with about 14% of 30k+ AA fics on Ao3 featuring it in the title, compared to only about 2% of sub-1k AA fics
“Turnabout” fics were disproportionately likely to be crossovers—about 19% of AA fics with “Turnabout” in the title were crossovers, compared to 5% of AA fics overall
And here’s a graph for good measure:
Method details and raw numbers below the cut
Method: For the Ao3 numbers, I searched for fics in the “逆転裁判 | Gyakuten Saiban | Ace Attorney” fandom, limiting the results to English-language fics only and excluding restricted works (although at a glance, the same patterns appear to hold among restricted works). For the FFN numbers, I searched for fics in the “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney” fandom, filtered to English language only. Data collected 5/25/2024.
#Ace Attorney#Graph#Graphs#Data#fandom statistics#statistics#Ao3#FFN#Ace Attorney in graphs#Overanalyzing Ace Attorney#sC original#there is no practical application to any of this I just wanted to know ~#anyway the numbers come out to 0.4% for GAA/DGS and 6% for PLvPW if anyone's curious

Giving credit to original posters, creators, artists, photographers, and sources matters.
It matters to the person who put in the time and effort to create the content. Whether it's finding that photo and editing it to make it stand out. Or downloading that video, editing it, coloring it, turning it into a gif, adding subtitles, etc. Regardless of what you do (job/student), I'm sure you too would not like it if someone else takes credit for your work.
It matters to people who want to know context. Was it said by a fan, your favourite's bestie, a reputable journalist? Published by a tabloid or the New York Times? From last week or last year? Is it an original, or did someone get photoshopped in for a meme?
It matters to people who may want to explore more content of that particular publication, so they will continue to publish top-notch articles. Or give kudos to a budding artist for their outstanding art work, potentially encouraging them to create more. Or compliment that photographer on capturing their fave in just the right light.
It matters, because even though it may take you an extra minute or so to add on that name or link, it is the right thing to do.
#i am aware we could do more like#pay for content we use#but giving credit is truly the bare minimum#and we all have those times when we are busy and forget to note the source#but we can try to make the effort 99% of the time#so much wonderful talent on this app#and other social media#who deserve to be acknowledged#and i know i am not the only one who spent hours gathering data#putting it into excel#creating a nice graph#with me crediting my data sources#only to then find it reposted on twitter 2 minutes later#without any credit whatsoever added#giving credit matters#cite your sources#not just applicable to f1mblr#but since that's the fandom i'm in#f1#formula 1#charles leclerc

Unlock the other 99% of your data - now ready for AI
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/unlock-the-other-99-of-your-data-now-ready-for-ai/
Unlock the other 99% of your data - now ready for AI
For decades, companies of all sizes have recognized that the data available to them holds significant value, for improving user and customer experiences and for developing strategic plans based on empirical evidence.
As AI becomes increasingly accessible and practical for real-world business applications, the potential value of available data has grown exponentially. Successfully adopting AI requires significant effort in data collection, curation, and preprocessing. Moreover, important aspects such as data governance, privacy, anonymization, regulatory compliance, and security must be addressed carefully from the outset.
In a conversation with Henrique Lemes, Americas Data Platform Leader at IBM, we explored the challenges enterprises face in implementing practical AI in a range of use cases. We began by examining the nature of data itself, its various types, and its role in enabling effective AI-powered applications.
Henrique highlighted that referring to all enterprise information simply as ‘data’ understates its complexity. The modern enterprise navigates a fragmented landscape of diverse data types and inconsistent quality, particularly between structured and unstructured sources.
In simple terms, structured data refers to information that is organized in a standardized and easily searchable format, one that enables efficient processing and analysis by software systems.
Unstructured data is information that does not follow a predefined format nor organizational model, making it more complex to process and analyze. Unlike structured data, it includes diverse formats like emails, social media posts, videos, images, documents, and audio files. While it lacks the clear organization of structured data, unstructured data holds valuable insights that, when effectively managed through advanced analytics and AI, can drive innovation and inform strategic business decisions.
Henrique stated, “Currently, less than 1% of enterprise data is utilized by generative AI, and over 90% of that data is unstructured, which directly affects trust and quality”.
The element of trust in terms of data is an important one. Decision-makers in an organization need firm belief (trust) that the information at their fingertips is complete, reliable, and properly obtained. But there is evidence that states less than half of data available to businesses is used for AI, with unstructured data often going ignored or sidelined due to the complexity of processing it and examining it for compliance – especially at scale.
To open the way to better decisions that are based on a fuller set of empirical data, the trickle of easily consumed information needs to be turned into a firehose. Automated ingestion is the answer in this respect, Henrique said, but the governance rules and data policies still must be applied – to unstructured and structured data alike.
Henrique set out the three processes that let enterprises leverage the inherent value of their data. “Firstly, ingestion at scale. It’s important to automate this process. Second, curation and data governance. And the third [is when] you make this available for generative AI. We achieve over 40% of ROI over any conventional RAG use-case.”
IBM provides a unified strategy, rooted in a deep understanding of the enterprise’s AI journey, combined with advanced software solutions and domain expertise. This enables organizations to efficiently and securely transform both structured and unstructured data into AI-ready assets, all within the boundaries of existing governance and compliance frameworks.
“We bring together the people, processes, and tools. It’s not inherently simple, but we simplify it by aligning all the essential resources,” he said.
As businesses scale and transform, the diversity and volume of their data increase. To keep up, AI data ingestion process must be both scalable and flexible.
“[Companies] encounter difficulties when scaling because their AI solutions were initially built for specific tasks. When they attempt to broaden their scope, they often aren’t ready, the data pipelines grow more complex, and managing unstructured data becomes essential. This drives an increased demand for effective data governance,” he said.
IBM’s approach is to thoroughly understand each client’s AI journey, creating a clear roadmap to achieve ROI through effective AI implementation. “We prioritize data accuracy, whether structured or unstructured, along with data ingestion, lineage, governance, compliance with industry-specific regulations, and the necessary observability. These capabilities enable our clients to scale across multiple use cases and fully capitalize on the value of their data,” Henrique said.
Like anything worthwhile in technology implementation, it takes time to put the right processes in place, gravitate to the right tools, and have the necessary vision of how any data solution might need to evolve.

like, technically, i understand why cover letters are different from resumes
emotionally though i hate it, i'm already reaching out obviously i think i'd be a good fit, just let me send a warm e-mail message and attach my resume or fill in a prompt text box or JUST USE THE FUCKING RESUME
#living a life#“it's a chance to make the hiring person feel connected to you!”#you know we wouldn't have to do this if we could just walk into places#and talk to a fucking person about it#but no everything's semi-automated#i hate job applications i hate that the balance between form and personal is so hard for systems to handle#i hate having to do the same data entry every damn time#idk maybe this is the retail experience talking#where managers didn't really seem to do shit 90% of the time#but hey maybe we SHOULD make hiring managers actually do interviews#for a higher percentage of applicants that they get#instead of having applicants do cover letters
