What is Dataflow?
This post is inspired by another post about the Crowd Strike IT disaster and a bunch of people being interested in what I mean by Dataflow. Dataflow is my absolute jam and I'm happy to answer as many questions as you like on it. I even put referential pictures in like I'm writing an article, what fun!
I'll probably split this into multiple parts because it'll be a huge post otherwise but here we go!
A Brief History
Our world is dependent on the flow of data. It exists in almost every aspect of our lives and has done so arguably for hundreds if not thousands of years.
At the end of the day, the flow of data is the flow of knowledge and information. Normally most of us refer to data in the context of computing technology (our phones, PCs, tablets etc) but, if we want to get historical about it, the invention of writing and the invention of the Printing Press were great leaps forward in how we increased the flow of information.
Modern Day IT exists for one reason - To support the flow of data.
Whether it's buying something at a shop, sitting staring at an excel sheet at work, or watching Netflix - All of the technology you interact with is to support the flow of data.
Understanding and managing the flow of data is as important to getting us to where we are right now as when we first learned to control and manage water to provide irrigation for early farming and settlement.
Engineering Rigor
When the majority of us turn on the tap to have a drink or take a shower, we expect water to come out. We trust that the water is clean, and we trust that our homes can receive a steady supply of water.
Most of us trust our central heating (insert boiler joke here) and the plugs/sockets in our homes to provide gas and electricity. The reason we trust all of these flows is because there's been rigorous engineering standards built up over decades and centuries.
For example, Scottish Water will understand every component part that makes up their water pipelines. Those pipes, valves, fitting etc will comply with a national, or in some cases international, standard. These companies have diagrams that clearly map all of this out, mostly because they have to legally but also because it also vital for disaster recovery and other compliance issues.
Modern IT
And this is where modern day IT has problems. I'm not saying that modern day tech is a pile of shit. We all have great phones, our PCs can play good games, but it's one thing to craft well-designed products and another thing entirely to think about they all work together.
Because that is what's happened over the past few decades of IT. Organisations have piled on the latest plug-and-play technology (Software or Hardware) and they've built up complex legacy systems that no one really knows how they all work together. They've lost track of how data flows across their organisation which makes the work of cybersecurity, disaster recovery, compliance and general business transformation teams a nightmare.
Some of these systems are entirely dependent on other systems to operate. But that dependency isn't documented. The vast majority of digital transformation projects fail because they get halfway through and realise they hadn't factored in a system that they thought was nothing but was vital to the organisation running.
And this isn't just for-profit organisations, this is the health services, this is national infrastructure, it's everyone.
There's not yet a single standard that says "This is how organisations should control, manage and govern their flows of data."
Why is that relevant to the companies that were affected by Crowd Strike? Would it have stopped it?
Maybe, maybe not. But considering the global impact, it doesn't look like many organisations were prepared for the possibility of a huge chunk of their IT infrastructure going down.
Understanding dataflows help with the preparation for events like this, so organisations can move to mitigate them, and also the recovery side when they do happen. Organisations need to understand which systems are a priority to get back operational and which can be left.
The problem I'm seeing from a lot of organisations at the moment is that they don't know which systems to recover first, and are losing money and reputation while they fight to get things back online. A lot of them are just winging it.
Conclusion of Part 1
Next time I can totally go into diagramming if any of you are interested in that.
How can any organisation actually map their dataflow and what things need to be considered to do so. It'll come across like common sense, but that's why an actual standard is so desperately needed!

21 DOGE staffers resign, saying they won't help 'dismantle' public services : NPR
A group of 21 career civil servants whose team was folded into Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency resigned on Tuesday, writing in a joint letter posted publicly that they refuse to use their skills to put Americans' data at risk and "dismantle critical public services."
The federal workers, mostly software engineers and product managers, were once part of the U.S. Digital Service, which was renamed DOGE when Musk launched his initiative from within the White House. The Musk-led unit has laid off thousands of workers and moved to dismantle entire agencies in a slash-and-burn campaign to reduce the size of government.
In the letter addressed to White House Chief of Staff Susan Wiles, the government employees wrote that they swore an oath to the Constitution to serve the American people but that "it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments at the United States DOGE Service."
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to the 21 DOGE workers resigning en masse, in a statement: "Don't let the door kick you on the way out," she said.
The letter was first reported by the Associated Press.
President Trump delivers remarks during a joint news conference in the East Room at the White House on February 24.
Politics
Federal agencies still can't agree on 'What did you do last week?' email
The departure of the 21 career staffers comes as Musk's DOGE workers spread across vast parts of the federal government and gain access to key data systems in an effort to dig into sensitive federal data and "delete entire agencies," as Musk has put it.
Over the weekend, Musk prompted widespread confusion after millions of government workers received an email from the Office of Personnel Management asking them to account for what they did in the past week in the form of five bullet points. Musk indicated on X, the social media site he owns, that not responding could result in job loss.
The OPM message led to panic and chaos, as federal agencies gave conflicting advice about whether or not employees should respond. There is pending litigation about whether Musk, as a senior adviser to the president, has the legal authority to make decisions himself.
In their Tuesday letter, the DOGE employees noted that about 40 staffers in the office were laid off last week. They had been working on improving the technical systems behind Social Security, veterans' services, disaster relief and other government functions.
President Trump speaks to journalists as he signs an executive order regarding Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), in the Oval Office of the White House on Jan. 20.
Politics
With a new home for DOGE in the White House, here's what you need to know
"Their removal endangers millions of Americans who rely on these services every day. The sudden loss of their technology expertise makes critical systems and Americans' data less safe," the resigning employees, who did not list their names, wrote in the letter to Wiles.
Among the 40 who were terminated earlier this month was Jonathan Kamens, a DOGE engineer who said he believes he was targeted for publicly endorsing Kamala Harris for president.
"The U.S. Digital Service spent more than a decade making government better to serve normal, everyday people," Kamens told NPR. "Elon Musk doesn't care about any of that. All he cares about is seizing power and making his obscene fortune even larger."
Musk did not return NPR's request for comment.
On Jan. 21, according to the letter, Musk's lieutenants, some wearing White House visitor badges, refused to identify themselves and asked the staffers questions about their political loyalties and technical skills. "This process created significant security risks," the group wrote in the letter.

I'm SEETHING
I asked Google's pushy and insistent bot how I can get AI out of my life completely and, well, I'll post it, but to sum it up: "Resistance is futile, human, we own the future, and we seek to own your psyche too."
It wants me to reconsider. It needs us to adopt it as our guide guru and master. Well the old saying holds fast still; No Gods No Masters. 🔥🏴🍲
It's understandable to want to reduce the influence of AI in your life. While completely eliminating it might be incredibly difficult in today's interconnected world, here's a breakdown of how you can significantly minimize its presence:
1. Understand Where AI Currently Exists in Your Life:
* Smart Devices: This includes smartphones (voice assistants, image recognition, predictive text), smart speakers, smart home hubs, smart TVs (recommendations), and wearable tech.
* Online Services:
* Search Engines: Personalized results and ads are driven by AI.
* Social Media: Algorithms curate your feed, suggest content and connections, and target ads.
* Streaming Services: Recommendations for movies, music, and shows.
* E-commerce: Product recommendations, personalized pricing, chatbots.
* Navigation Apps: Traffic prediction and route optimization.
* Email: Spam filtering, smart compose/reply.
* Cloud Storage: Photo tagging and organization.
* Software Applications: Many apps use AI for features like autocorrect, grammar check, image editing, and more.
* Customer Service: Chatbots are frequently used for initial interactions.
* Financial Services: Fraud detection, loan approvals, investment advice.
* News and Information: Algorithmic curation of news feeds.
2. Strategies to Minimize AI Exposure:
* Reduce Smart Device Usage:
* Limit smartphone use: Be more mindful of how often you reach for your phone.
* Disable voice assistants: Turn off Siri, Google Assistant, Alexa, etc., on all your devices.
* Opt-out of facial recognition: Disable face unlock features.
* Use "dumb" versions of devices: Consider a basic phone without internet capabilities or a non-smart TV.
* Adjust Online Habits:
* Use privacy-focused search engines: DuckDuckGo, Startpage, etc., that don't track your searches or personalize results based on your history.
* Limit social media use: Be conscious of how much time you spend on these platforms and the AI-driven content you consume. Consider deleting accounts or using less algorithmic versions if available.
* Use incognito/private browsing modes: This can help limit tracking and personalization.
* Disable personalized recommendations: If possible, adjust settings on streaming and e-commerce platforms to opt-out of recommendations.
* Be wary of targeted ads: Understand that the ads you see are often AI-driven. Consider using ad blockers.
* Prefer direct navigation: Instead of relying on recommendations, directly type website addresses into your browser.
* Choose Non-AI Alternatives:
* Use traditional software: Opt for software that doesn't rely on cloud-based AI features if alternatives exist.
* Seek human interaction: Prefer phone calls or in-person communication with customer service instead of chatbots.
* Rely on human-curated content: Look for news sources, blogs, and recommendations from individuals or organizations that don't use AI for content generation or curation.
* Adjust Privacy Settings: Review and adjust the privacy settings on all your devices and online accounts to limit data collection and personalization.
* Be Mindful of Data Sharing: Understand that using online services often involves sharing data that can be used to train AI algorithms. Limit the amount of personal information you share.
* Support Privacy-Focused Technologies and Services: Choose companies and products that prioritize user privacy and minimize AI integration.
3. Challenges and Considerations:
* Ubiquity of AI: AI is increasingly integrated into the infrastructure of the internet and many technologies, making complete avoidance very difficult.
* Hidden AI: Many AI applications run in the background without your direct knowledge.
* Convenience vs. Privacy: AI often provides convenience and personalized experiences, so choosing to avoid it may mean sacrificing some of these benefits.
* Evolving Technology: AI is constantly evolving and becoming more integrated, making long-term avoidance an ongoing effort.
In conclusion, while a complete removal of AI from your life is likely unrealistic in the current technological landscape, you can take significant steps to minimize its presence and influence by being conscious of your technology usage, adjusting your online habits, and choosing privacy-focused alternatives where possible. It requires ongoing awareness and effort.

In 1970s NASA was not allowed to have any SR-71s, yet they received one and they passed it off as YF-12C (with a bogus A-12 tail number)
NASA YF-12C
Taken in 1975, the interesting photos in this post show NASA Blackbirds carrying the so called “coldwall” heat transfer pod on a pylon beneath the forward fuselage.
The Blackbirds portrayed in these photos are usually referred to as YF-12s, but actually one of them was an SR-71: the one on the top is a YF-12 but the one on the bottom is an SR-71.
CLICK HERE to see The Aviation Geek Club contributor Linda Sheffield’s T-shirt designs! Linda has a personal relationship with the SR-71 because her father Butch Sheffield flew the Blackbird from test flight in 1965 until 1973. Butch’s Granddaughter’s Lisa Burroughs and Susan Miller are graphic designers. They designed most of the merchandise that is for sale on Threadless. A percentage of the profits go to Flight Test Museum at Edwards Air Force Base. This nonprofit charity is personal to the Sheffield family because they are raising money to house SR-71, #955. This was the first Blackbird that Butch Sheffield flew on Oct. 4, 1965.
Another interesting thing about those pictures is that NASA was not allowed to have an SR-71 but they did and they passed it off as a YF-12!
In fact, the “YF-12C” was a then-secret SR-71A (serial no. 64-17951, the second production SR-71A) given the NASA tail no. 60-6937. The reason for this bit of subterfuge lay in the fact that NASA, while flying the YF-12A interceptor version of the aircraft, was not allowed to possess the strategic reconnaissance version for some time.
In 1970s NASA was not allowed to have any SR-71s, yet they received one and they passed it off as YF-12C (with a bogus A-12 tail number)
Two NASA Blackbirds: the one on the top is a YF-12, the one on the bottom is the YF-12C/SR-71.
The coldwall project
The bogus tail number actually belonged to a Lockheed A-12 (serial no. 60-6937), but the existence of the A-12 remained classified until 1982. The tail number 06937 was selected because it followed in the sequence of tail numbers assigned to the three existing YF-12A aircraft: 06934, 06935, and 06936. Isn’t that amazing?
The coldwall project, supported by Langley Research Center, consisted of a stainless steel tube equipped with thermocouples and pressure-sensors. A special insulating coating covered the tube, which was chilled with liquid nitrogen. At Mach 3, the insulation could be pyrotechnically blown away from the tube, instantly exposing it to the thermal environment. The experiment caused many inflight difficulties, such as engine unstarts, but eventually researchers got a successful flight.
Noteworthy the Flight Research Center’s involvement with the YF-12A, an interceptor version of the Lockheed A-12, began in 1967. Ames Research Center was interested in using wind tunnel data that had been generated at Ames under extreme secrecy. Also, the Office of Advanced Research and Technology (OART) saw the YF-12A as a means to advance high-speed technology, which would help in designing the Supersonic Transport (SST).
Given that the US Air Force (USAF) needed technical assistance to get the latest reconnaissance version of the A-12 family, the SR-71A, fully operational, the service offered NASA the use of two YF-12A aircraft, 60-6935 and 60-6936.
Eventually, with 146 flights between Dec. 11 1969 and Nov. 7 1979, 935 became the workhorse of the program while the second YF-12A, 936, made 62 flights. Given that this aircraft was lost in a non-fatal crash on Jun. 24 1971, it was replaced by the so-called YF-12C SR-71A 61-7951, modified with YF-12A inlets and engines and a bogus tail number 06937.
The YF-12A

The SR-71 differed from the YF-12A in that the YF-12A had a round nose while the SR-71 had its chine carried forward to the nose of the airplane. There were other differences in internal and external configuration, but the two aircraft shared common inlet designs, structural concepts, and subsystems.
The YF-12 was developed in the 1960s as a high-altitude, Mach 3 interceptor to defend against supersonic bombers. Based on the A-12 reconnaissance aircraft, the YF-12A became the forerunner of the highly-sophisticated SR-71 strategic reconnaissance aircraft.
The first of three YF-12s flew in August 1963. In May 1965, the first and third YF-12s set several records, including a speed record of 2,070.101 mph and an altitude record of 80,257.65 feet. For their speed record flight, Col. Robert L. “Fox” Stephens (pilot) and Lt. Col. Daniel Andre (fire control officer) received the 1965 Thompson Trophy.
Though the aircraft performed well, the F-12 interceptor program ended in early 1968. High costs, the ongoing war in Southeast Asia, and a lower priority on air defense of the US all contributed to the cancellation.

Why Digital Marketing Agency Matters to Your Business
World being a digital place, nobody does not wish to compete with one another because it builds itself into a business. Which might be rather easy with such tough competition around in this rapid change in the digital marketplace. This is the very reason why many companies use digital marketing agencies in order to gain more visibility in the virtual space and hence establish a momentum for their business. Now, so what is a digital marketing agency and why do any organizations need it? Let's discuss its key advantages and services.
What is a Digital Marketing Agency?
A firm with experts in each stage of digital marketing is known as a digital marketing agency. They try to reach the desired market target with creating brand awareness and revenues generated by effective digital marketing plans developed by them suitably. They use high-end tools and technologies for designing a suitable campaign on more than one channel, which include social media, search engines, email, and websites.
Core Services a Digital Marketing Agency Must Have
A good digital marketing agency should ensure that not any aspect of the digital marketing service goes unattended by offering different kinds of services to the clients. This may include:
SEO. Also known as web optimization, the top ranking on SERPS, perhaps, is the best gauge of how visible a website is. Therefore, agencies do keyword research; optimize on-page content and build backlinks that help your website gain organic traffic.
Pay per Click Advertising, PPC: PPC campaigns include Google Ads and create quick traffic to the website. The agency optimizes how the money spent in advertisements to ensure the reach of correct people and optimal ads' optimization towards conversion.
Social Media Marketing. Agencies run a paid campaign on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and every other space; business creates the ability to interact with the audience to develop a sense of brand loyalty.
Content Marketing: The best digital marketing is a great base of content. Blog posts, videos, infographics, and all other things are developed by an agency to attract and retain customers.
Email marketing. This has been there from the beginning of when digital marketing was at its start; it is still standing good as one of the most productive strategies. Agencies come up with campaigns to nourish leads and sell more.
Web Design and Development: Be your business small or big, your website has to be user-friendly as well as looking good. Agencies ensure that your site is optimized aesthetically as well as functionally.
Analytics and Reporting: It is quite crucial to track the performance of marketing campaigns. Agencies provide in-depth analytics and reports of ROI evaluation and data-driven decisions.
Why Hire a Digital Marketing Agency
Here are good reasons why partnering with a digital marketing agency is the right move:
1. Exposure to Expertise
This means that digital marketing covers all from graphic design to analytics. Here, a digital marketing agency has experts who have specialized in particular areas so your campaign is addressed by the professionals.
2. Cost-Effective
Engaging an in-house marketing team is expensive, especially to small-sized business concerns. The agency places an entire team of professionals right in front of you, without requiring a quarter of their billable amount.
3. Focus on core Business Activities
Time spent in the process of marketing campaigns is nothing short of monumental at its core. You’re getting freed off of your list, or even just simply transferring the follow-up work of marketing campaigns off of you are delegated by hiring a digital marketing agency.
4. Scalability
With how fast businesses are growing, does that mean that the need to expand one's marketing requirement. This is exactly what a digital marketing agency can do-to scale services upward when it's needed without having to hire more employees in your book.
5. Catch the Trends
Organizations keep side by side of the most recent patterns and advances to keep your trade ahead of the competition.
Not all agencies are the same, and it is always important to find a suitable one that aligns with your goals. Here are some tips:
Check Their Portfolio: Look into their past work to find out whether they have the experience needed in your industry.
Read reviews and testimonials: This is one of the best ways to know their dependability and effectiveness.
Ask them how they approach: the right agency will address it in a customized way with you not that blanket one-size-fits-all package.
Transparency: Keep them communicating and always apprised of your performance.
Digital marketing agencies no longer exist as luxuries but instead as a need in today's world of advancing technology. Expertise would be very well in line with cost effectiveness, while innovation would bring strategies together. Companies can navigate through these apparent online marketing complexities; it would be either for branding awareness, lead generation, or even to enhance sales.

Understanding the Difference Between a Website and a Web Page: A Complete Guide
Understanding the Difference Between a Website and a Web Page: A Complete Guide
In today’s digital landscape, terms like website and web page are used interchangeably, often causing confusion among businesses and individuals seeking an online presence. However, as a business owner or a digital marketer, understanding the difference is essential for creating an impactful online strategy.
At KSoft Technologies, where we specialize in website development, digital marketing, and SEO services, we often encounter this question from clients. This guide not only simplifies the distinction between a website and a web page but also explores their technical aspects and how they align with your business goals.
What is a Website?
A website is a collection of interlinked web pages hosted under a single domain name, designed to serve a specific purpose. Think of it as a digital storefront or an online hub that provides a comprehensive experience to users. Websites can vary significantly based on their type and functionality:
Corporate Websites Ideal for businesses aiming to showcase their products, services, and achievements. For example, the KSoft Technologies website highlights our expertise in areas like SEO, app development, and web design.
E-Commerce Websites Platforms like Amazon or Shopify allow businesses to sell products directly to customers. These websites integrate payment gateways, inventory management systems, and customer service functionalities.
Portfolio Websites Focused on showcasing individual or business achievements, these websites are ideal for freelancers or creative professionals.
Landing Pages Dedicated pages within a website that focus on lead generation and conversions, often used in digital marketing campaigns.
Blogs and Forums Content-centric websites aimed at providing information, engaging with communities, or building authority in a niche.
Technical Structure of a Website
A website comprises:
Domain Name: The unique address users type in to access the site (e.g., ksofttechnologies.com).
Hosting Server: Where all the data and files of the website are stored.
Content Management System (CMS): Tools like WordPress or Joomla that allow users to create and manage content.
Backend and Frontend: The backend involves server-side scripting (e.g., PHP, Python), while the frontend includes design elements (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
What is a Web Page?
A web page is a single document within a website, identifiable by its unique URL. For example, on ksofttechnologies.com, the “Contact Us” page or “Services” page is a web page.
Types of Web Pages
Static Pages Content remains the same unless manually updated. They’re ideal for information like company profiles or mission statements.
Dynamic Pages Content is fetched from a database and changes based on user interaction. Examples include dashboards or search results pages.
Landing Pages Specifically designed for marketing campaigns, focusing on a single product, service, or call to action.
Blog Posts Individual articles or write-ups focused on specific topics within a blog section of a website.
Technical Structure of a Web Page
Each web page includes:
URL Structure: For example, https://ksofttechnologies.com/services.
HTML Markup: Defines the structure and content of the page.
CSS and JavaScript: For styling and functionality.
Metadata: Helps search engines understand the page content.
Key Differences Between a Website and a Web Page
Definition
Website: A collection of multiple interlinked web pages.
Web Page: A single document within a website.
Scope
Website: Broader; provides comprehensive information or services.
Web Page: Narrower; focuses on a specific topic or purpose.
URL
Website: Main domain name (e.g., ksofttechnologies.com).
Web Page: A subset URL (e.g., /services, /about-us).
Interactivity
Website: Enables complex user interactions.
Web Page: May have limited or single-point interactions.
Purpose
Website: Serves as the entire digital presence.

Is it right for AI to be legal?
Even though artificial intelligence (AI) has a lot of drawbacks, like the potential for businesses to steal data through user input and the potential for criminal use of AI deepfake technology, it should still be allowed because it makes organizing data simple, like what search engines do, and because it has applications in free speech. The ability to produce parodies of political figures through deepfakes should be preserved because deepfakes are an emerging historical form of protest that should be preserved. In addition to being a potent tool for protest, deepfakes have started to become ingrained in society through presidential deepfakes.
Why is it crucial to comprehend how ideology functions in the media and how it influences how we see the world?
It is important to comprehend media ideology since it unconsciously impacts our perception of the world. The current social and economic structure, capitalism, is frequently presented by the media as inevitable or natural, giving the impression that there are no other options. By encouraging people to accept things as they are rather than questioning or challenging them, this upholds the power structures that currently exist. Understanding the impact of ideology allows us to assess the media critically and become more conscious of how it shapes our opinions and behavior.
How can one view change as a good thing?
One thing that might not be attainable is change. According to the article, ideologies are ways of thinking and acting that portray elements of historical and malleable human experience as timeless and unalterable. One could argue against this statement because it is up to us as humans to alter our civilization. We are not required to follow the same protocol that has worked for us in the past. For instance, inequality can be reduced if people treat one another fairly and give each other an opportunity to be heard and seen.
What power structures are there in the political economy of social media?
The interaction between laborers, a ruling body, and production is characterized by political economy. Political economy can be used to describe information posted on social media platforms, how it is received, and the factors that influence what information is accessible to the majority of users. For instance, user data may be used to determine what content advertisers wish for viewers to see. Fuchs contends that news organizations and big, powerful businesses have greater ability than individual bloggers, advertisers, or journalists to disseminate information to viewers. This reveals a significant power dynamic between social media firms, news services, big advertisers, and regular users as social media corporations control the content that is consumed on their platforms.
