Love at First Sight

Do you believe in love at first sight also applies to our interest?

At first I dont.

But along the way after 8 years passed by, I realised somehow it does.

I remember for the very fist time I read scientific journal regarding Analysis-Synthesis for Speech Processing, the very compelling part is that the system can predict high frequency whereas it is not even transmitted over the air. Why do we need to predict high frequency anyway if telephony frequency which transmitted sounds good. Well, in terms of satisfaction there’s always another skies over the sky, isn’t ? Technology can even make more better and better life quality we might never imagine. Prediction is a key.

So how it would be? After little dig deeper, it’s because Machine Learning.

Yes those computational intelligence behind make everything we see impossible being plausible and possible. At that time, 8 years ago I decided to to do my final theses for reconstructing wideband speech signal from narrowband, with a help of codebook algorithm and KNN clustering clasification. Luckily I had right supervisory under, thus the research went well.

But that was my past. After university life, I left all stuff including teaching assisting behind, and start a new life. Commencing my career in Government, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy The Republic of Indonesia.

I assisting the Director of Cooperation and Facilitation, of which the main responsibility is to build the right ecosystem for Digital Entrepreneurs (later, called digipreneurs). My main part is to create program for digipreneurs so that they can lift up their businesses of digital products (mostly apps and games) locally and globally. Met significant influence leaders across industry to do collaboration hand in hand with, from Venture Capital, Angel Investor, Central Bank of Indonesia, World Bank and other Gov institution, Multi National Corporation, digital communities, letting me learn to think strategics and should be comprehensive.

I think the way to understand better how digital business works, is to dive in. 

So within 2 years I work at one of digital service company which has strong cooperation with hi-tech global companies to help telecommunication company provide the white-label service. I deep intact working with Business Intelligence team and invaluable partner from various country to tap the local market. With data understanding and crack something into it with technology, it can make into something very impactful to the traction and revenues.

With engineering background and 5 years back and forth working with government and business, my love at data analytics surprisingly has not been vanished, even growing into something should be useful.

I really enjoy when my hand gets extremely-dirty  while doing preprocessing data, analysis, and visualise the result. Especially when it could enhance the way business works. For instance we could create market segmentation upon their behaviours, market basket analysis thus retail can make more efficient promotion & cross selling/upselling, knowing Customer Lifetime Value, and moreover knowing whether customer would likely to churn so that we could retain them (as acquiring new customer would take 5-6 times heavier cost than retaining),

Then I lately realise, we might fall in love with the same interest but with a lot more sharper direction.
