Fuck You Health Insurance Company, I Hope You Die in a Fire (Except Tristan)
Hold music is the soundtrack to hell but the soulless placid platitudes of some feminine nonentity
push the spear into my side like a jackhammer
All agents are still assisting other callers. Please continue to hold and your call will be answered as soon as possible.
Thank you for your Patience.
Every thirty seconds she reminds me I ought to be fucking canonized for my Patience, thank you
very much.
I always thought that comedic trope, where an adult tries to speak to the robotic voice on the
phone while it mishears them over and over and over again like a jackhammer
Was just a trope. Until the fourth mistake and the robot gives up and I’m suddenly shouting at
some poor telephone insurance operator and I’m suddenly the
asshole that shouts at customer service that I never thought I’d be capable of being.
And in that fifteen-second interaction, that customer service worker embraced six weeks of my
rage and handled it effortlessly and handed me over to
Your estimated wait time is thirty-three minutes and forty-three seconds.
Hold music is the soundtrack to hell and this robot that could, in some alienated way, be called a
woman, thanks me for the Patience for which I ought to be canonized.
I wonder if there was ever an actual woman behind that voice
I wonder if she had a name
I wonder if her health insurance ever denied her claim
I wonder if she ever sat for half an hour listening to the soundtrack to hell and her own voice
drilling into her skull like a jackhammer
I wonder how it feels to have your voice be attributed to an unceasing tide of inhuman frustration
and hopelessness. I wonder if people ever tell her they recognize her voice but
can’t tell where from. I wonder if she’s ever been broken up with because her partner had
a bad experience with health insurance and just can’t handle it anymore.
It’s honestly comical how completely this fits into the tropes of the jokes made about adulthood
and I would be laughing along if I could get my fucking medications.
And all agents are still assisting other callers, and yes, thank me again for my saintly fucking
Patience you soulless nonexistence it’s starting to give me a boner
And if someone picks up I have no idea what to say, and if the tropes hold true I’ll be
transferred around like a pretty boy in a prison shower, just like the last six weeks of
Doctor to pharmacy to doctor doctor to pharmacy to doctor to pharmacy to doctor only to
discover the hold out, and it’s fucking health insurance
Insuring nothing but pain and senility and a constant reliable soundtrack to hell and the lauding
of my saintly Patience, a laudable attempt to reign in my violent violent thoughts
(Why did we ever stop taking laudanum?
I heard they would label the bottles in a confusing way
And people thought DTO meant Diluted Tincture of Opium
And not Deodorized Tincture of Opium
And accidentally killed their babies with it.)
And this is all just inciting my martyr complex and disembowelment fantasies and someone’s
picked up and he’s told me that this is the wrong number out of the six listed on the
medical card and I’m transferred.
And I’m about to scream but someone’s picked up and I explain I need my prescriptions
authorized and he says that that’s important and I feel important and almost like a
human being
And he asks for my name (and uses it) and asks for further info and says he’ll be working on this
and he says his name is Tristan and I think I have a crush
(Flora Tristan was an early communist writer
who espoused the necessity of gender equality
for working class prosperity)
And he calls me by my first name and I’m worried he can hear how I’ve been on the verge of
tears for an hour through the telephone when I blurt out that he’s the most helpful person
I’ve spoken to in six weeks
And I write down his name and I think about how funny it would be if I drew little hearts around
it in my notebook
And I’m sitting like a high schooler with my telephone, waiting for him to call back so that my
health insurance company can authorize my medication and I wonder
If I’m gay for Tristan the telephone health insurance customer service operator, can the church
still canonize me for my saintly fucking Patience?
I guess there’s no chance at suicide if you’re already being crucified by the United States
Healthcare System, which is less of a system like the dazzling circling firmament and
more of just a few rich people teabagging the entire working class
And I guess I have nothing in common with christ except our lives fucking suck and we’re
communists
And I’m not sure the disparity between having marks on your hands or on a shelf
And I’m not sure how the healthcare system factors into this dilemma diorama, is it god,
ordering me to follow the commands of its supreme authority and then hanging me
out to dry
Or maybe it’s Judas the betrayer, the blue cross to get fucking nailed upon and the blue shield
to show you just the full extent of what Patience yields
(It’s nothing.)
No, I think it’s Pilate, good old self-conscious Pontius, my coverage plan symbolically washes
my blood from its hands and condemns me to a very very snail-paced death.
And while christ faced death I find this allegory an amusing anecdote as an atheist obsessed with
the sex-appeal of christo-catholic imagery
And I thought that hold music was the soundtrack to hell but maybe it’s just telling you to hold
on, to something, for dear life, etc, etc
Because the silence when I wait for him to call back is deafening and deadening and I wonder if
he’ll call before class or after or during, and if it is During I will simply get up and go
because six weeks of this shit is enough to make a man senile and six weeks of this
shit is enough and more than enough and
I still don’t have my medications
He asked when I needed them and I sort of laughed and said ‘four weeks ago’ and now
Tristan, my knight in telephonic armor knows my melancholia more than most
I wonder if I came off as clingy and damn I’m senile and I’d like my fucking medications please.
Please hold. Please hold. Please continue to hold. Thank you for your Patience.

The French Revolution Calendar Project!
Hello again, Frev community! A few days ago I entertained the idea of doing a calendar featuring Frev figures representing the months of the Republican Calendar. I have now decided to work on this project in earnest and dedicate it in memory of Dave (@marat), with all proceeds going to the Trevor Project. This is the list I’ve decided on -
Vendemiaire: Louis XVI & Marie-Antoinette getting arrested
Brumaire: Napoleon emerging menacingly out of fog
Frimaire: Lafayette being cringe
Nivose: Claire Lacombe & Pauline Leon repping working class women
Pluviose: Marat furiously writing in his bathtub during a thunderstorm
Ventose: Jacques-Louis David painting propaganda
Germinal: Camille on a café table inciting the storming of the bastille
Floreal: FABRE because D'EGLANTINE
Prairial: Danton acting like a shepherd (of the people)
Messidor: Saint-Just with a wheat crown and wheat wings
Thermidor: Robespierre sitting under an orange tree with Brount
Fructidor: Couthon
You might’ve noticed that the assignments are slightly different than the list I originally posted. This is because I thought it’d be neat to have each trio grouped by theme. So like the autumn months are royalty/aristocracy, winter months are revolutionary “communicators,” spring months are the Cordeliers, and summer months are the hardcore Jacobins.
The italicized months are ones I already have artists for and the non-italicized ones still need an artist assigned. Please let me know if you’d be interested in participating in this project! I’d love to have more folks from the Frev community here on board. You’d have to know how to draw stuff for print though, and ideally you have a painterly style. I have a budget of $500 max for each piece, with dimensions of 4x6in so they can double as prints.
If you want to contribute small miscellaneous art like chibis or something though, I can probably also fit them in the calendar! There’ll be a lot of white space to work with.

So, I didn’t know him at all (not even as a mutual) except from occasionally seeing reblogs of his posts but... damn.
Condolences to his family and friends. RIP.
so I actually received this text about a week ago, but I held off on sharing it, as a small part of me thought that maybe this was just some cruel joke- that maybe it wasn’t real, that he would start posting again and it turns out that everything would be normal and okay. I realize now that may not have been the smartest choice, and I apologize for that.
many of you, especially in the frev community, probably only knew @marat as nothing more than a tumblr mutual. I myself am one of those people. maybe there are some others here who were closer to him, who didn’t know about this yet- which is why i wanted to share this here. i honestly don’t have much to say rn, i’m not the best with words but maybe i’ll add something more later. and if anyone else would like to add something: please, by all means feel free to. ❤️

I used to be more into UFC as a follower, but I've got my disagreements with them and I was wondering: where else can I watch MMA fights? What other leagues exist for MMA?
For sure. There are all types of organizations out there that collectively serve as good alternatives to the UFC. But before I list them, I only feel it is fair to say that the fight game is run by some of the sketchiest people in sports. Don’t trust promoters/promotions to be decent. Even the ones I’m about to list.
First off, if you live somewhere with local MMA scene I’d suggest showing them some support. You can search for regional promotions using Tapology’s Fightcenter or Sherdog’s Fight Finder. Go to shows, buy their iPPVs or tune in on their YouTube streams or whatever they have going on.
1) Bellator MMA - The #2 promotion in the United States, and arguably the world. Tons of really great fighters like Patricio Pitbull, Michael Chandler, Ilima-Lei MacFarlane, Rory MacDonald, Douglas Lima, Gegard Mousasi, Ryan Bader, Vitaly Minakov, Andrey Koreshkov, Emmanuel Sanchez, Henry Corrales, Darrion Caldwell, AJ McKee Jr, Juliana Velasquez, Eduardo Dantas, Vadim Nemkov, and a bunch of really good young guys working their way. They have also thrown an honest effort into growing the women’s 145lb division, unlike the UFC. They put on dud cards everyone once in a while though. If you avoid their heavyweight bouts though, you should be good. You can catch them on TV on Paramount or the CMT depending on where you live. If you feel like throwing down $10 a month, you can catch them on the streaming service DAZN.
2) Rizin FF - If you liked PRIDE back in the day, Rizin is for you. Pure JMMA, the good stuff (& some of the bad). It’s in a ring instead of a cage. You get a good mix of legit high quality talent and weird freakshow fights you didn’t know you wanted to see. On the quality side, they got talent like Kyoji Horiguchi, Tenshin Nasukawa, Kanna Asakura, Jiri Prochazka, Ayaka Hamasaki, Yuki Motoya, Ulka Sasaki, Kanako Murata, and a few familiar faces like Diego Brandao, Daron Cruickshank, Justin Scoggins, Takenori Gomi, Satoru Kitaoka and Tatsuya Kawajiri. They’re cards tend to be a lot of fun. They have around 6 cards a year and you can watch them for $20 on Fite TV.
3) ONE Championship - A Southeast Asian promotion based in Singapore. They do a mix of MMA, kickboxing, muay thai, and the occasional boxing match. They had a huge 2018 news wise as they signed former UFC champions Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez, as well as charismatic Ken Doll Sage Northcut. The promotion is also home to a bunch of really fun, really interesting notable fighters on roster: Angela Lee, Bibiano Fernandes, Shinya Aoki, Aung La Nsang, Xiong Jing Nan,Eduard Folayang, Amir Khan, Timofey Nastyukhin, Lowen Tynanes, Martin Nguyen, Marat Gafurov, Kevin Belingon, and many more. They also recently signed a US TV/streaming deal with TNT and Bleacher Report. They air their fights live for a fee (don’t know off the top of my head) and replay the card in for like an hour later that night.
4) KSW - Speaking of freakshow bouts, if you want to watch big men swing on one another I’d suggest looking into KSW. The Polish MMA promotion was built off the strength of former World Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski who’s persistence with MMA has been fantastic to watch. Especially against Polish Gangster rapper Popek Monster. The promotion will also be bringing us a match up between two other strongmen, 6′8 280lb behemoth Martin Fyord and a man nicknamed the Iranian Hulk. Before you ask, is this promotion all big musclemen swanging on one another, the answer is no. There are actually quite a few really good Polish and eastern European talent in the promotion: Tomasz Narkun and Mateusz Gamrot are quite the talent. You can catch KSW on the streaming service DAZN.
5) PFL (Formerly WSOF) - PFL is complicated. It’s different than most other, it’s a tournament formatted promotion that places heavy emphasis on acquiring finishes as quickly as possible. These are tournaments where fighters fight for $1 million. It also might not be around in 2019 because there’s very little likelihood that they are making the money they need to turn a profit. We also don’t when when season 2 (they have seasons) will start as their president just left to go join a professional tennis league. They have their fair share of really good talent including 2x Olympic judo gold medalist Kayla Harrison, Louis Talylor, Ray Cooper III, Magomed Magomedkerimov, Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Natan Schulte, Steven Siler, Lance Palmer, and Philipe Lins. While their business model may be dubious, they’re product is quality. When they were called WSOF, the promotion was responsible for jump starting the careers of current and former UFC talent like Marlon Moraes, Justin Gaethje, Andrei Arlovski, Dave Branch, and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. When they do air, you can find them on the NBC Sports Network.
6) LFA - Everybody has to start somewhere. This used to be 2 separate promotions called Legacy FC and RFA before they fused a couple years ago. It’s been home to a whole host of future UFC fighters. Everyone from Holly Holm and Derrick Lewis to Eryk Anders and Ray Borg. Basically becoming the champion here is the closest thing to a guarantee that you will be in the UFC in the near future. You can watch LFA on AXS TV, if you have it.
There are a whole bunch of other promotions out there: Combate Americas, Road FC, Pancrase, Invicta FC, KOTC, Cage Warriors, BAMMA, M-1, Shooto, Fight Nights, etc.

Throughout his life, Thomas Paine had an uncanny knack for avoiding an untimely death. This can be seen in at least six independent incidents: 1) As a young privateer, he narrowly avoided succumbing to death on board the Terrible, an English frigate commanded by Captain William Death, saved only by the insistence of his angry father. After an attack on the high seas by a French privateer, only 17 of the ship’s original crew survived, and over 150 – including all of its officers and its captain – perished. 2) Upon his initial voyage to America, in 1774, he nearly died of typhoid fever. He was so sick and disheveled he had to be personally cared for by John Kearsley, Benjamin Franklin's personal doctor, for six weeks in Philadelphia upon his arrival. 3) After returning to England, Paine was caught up in an unprecedented censorship campaign by William Pitt's Tory government, which charged, convicted, and sentenced him to execution in absentia for publishing The Rights of Man, Part Second. Paine managed to escape England upon the advice of his friends before the sentence could be carried out. 4) Shortly after Louis XVI's Flight to Varennes during the French Revolution, the inquisitive Paine woke up to find French revolutionaries storming the streets in outrage. Failing to bring his cockade hat emblazoned with the revolutionary tricolor, he took to the streets, where he was mistaken for a royalist. He was saved from being strung up and hung upon a light post for this mistake only by the presence of an English-seaking peer that recognized him and begged the mob to release him. 5) After he pleaded with the French National Assembly to spare the life of King Louis XVI, and feuded with radical Jacobin figureheads Maximilien de Robespierre and Jean-Paul Marat, he was detained during the Reign of Terror. He was stripped of his French citizenship, and ostensibly detained for the same. In Luxembourg Prison, he was spared only by a chance mistake on the part of a jailer, who marked an X on the wrong side of his cell door. Consequently, he was passed by on a routine execution patrol and survived in time for James Monroe to push for and secure his release from prison by way of his American citizenship. 6) On Christmas Eve, 1805, an enraged former tenant of his property in New Rochelle, New York, went on a rum-drinking spree, waded through snow in approach to Paine's residence, and fired a shot through his rear window at close range as the writer sat inside. The bullet missed Paine, and the man was soon apprehended. Unwilling to attract more attention to himself, Paine refused to press charges against he man, and he was released without further incident. In my forthcoming biography, I explore each of these incidents in greater detail.

A friend of Dave @marat let us know that he passed away.
so I actually received this text about a week ago, but I held off on sharing it, as a small part of me thought that maybe this was just some cruel joke- that maybe it wasn’t real, that he would start posting again and it turns out that everything would be normal and okay.
