I have!
Did Bernadotte really have a "Death to Kings" tattoo or is it just a rumor? Thanks.
I have no clue. Sorry, but my knowledge of Bernadotte is extremely superficial, much like he was.

Fun pop culture fact: This myth is perpetuated by Allison Pataki in her novel called “A Queen’s Fortune”, which is inaccurate and boring as FUCK, so there’s that.

I spoke a bit too soon about beating depression. Unfortunately I ended up spiraling again and now have to go back on medication for a bit. Long story, but I think a lot of things just piled up.
So… yeah. There’s a mental health setback. I unfortunately couldn’t continue my studies and had to put things on hold again. Was hospitalized on Monday for a mental health crisis and had two panic attacks this week.
But I’m alive and not in danger. So there’s that.

So…
;
I survived! My depression treatment is officially over, and my story continues with a semicolon instead of ending with a period. Still alive and kicking and preparing for my grand comeback. I’m extremely sorry for being radio silent and I thank my mutuals for their support and their patience on this journey!

Just remember: if anyone tries to spout bullshit that being something other than a cis perisex male or female is abnormal, show them examples like this.
gynandromorph stag beetle !!

the finished version on procreate and the initial doodle from my sketchbook !!
“a gynandromorph is an organism, typically an insect, crustacean, or bird, that possesses both male and female characteristics.” or, yanno, intersex beetle :)

Allow me to add that body fat distribution also varies from person to person, and while someone CAN develop more pronounced abs without the strict bodybuilder requirements, others cannot do that, and that’s okay. We shouldn’t shame people for this variety. By the way, this also means we shouldn’t shame physically strong women (women of color especially get flak if they’re physically strong, but it’s not a problem exclusive to racial and ethnic minorities).
Also, can doctors not put as much emphasis on BMI as they do? It’s bullshit in my opinion, and not accurate for measuring how healthy your particular body mass is. Muscles are more dense than fat, so people who build muscles can actually find themselves weighing more than they did when they had more fat. So, you can be a swole healthy person and still have an abnormal BMI, which is bullshit.
Are there ways to build muscle and be strong without fucking ruining your health? Sure, but be very careful to not starve your body of nutrients and water and, for the love of whatever you hold dear, do not overtrain like some bodybuilders do. Seriously, do not.
An example of doing it right is my stepdad, who is extremely strong and can lift heavy weights but still has a healthy amount of body fat. He told me that, in order to build muscle, he actually has to consume more calories than an average man of his height and age, and that he has to make sure that he maintains a balanced diet and doesn’t exert himself too much while training. He consults professional trainers and nutritionists in order to stay healthy while he is working on becoming stronger and stronger. If you can see professionals to help with your diet and exercise plans, please do that to make sure you are not slowly damaging your body by chasing an idealistic beauty standard.
Trust me, no six pack is worth torturing your body.
Man, when I was like 16 I got so sick of being made fun of for being the fat kid that I took an axe down inna woods, chopped down a tree, and started doing log-lifts all the time. I got strong as fuck, but I didn’t lose no weight. I actually got bigger.
Same thing happened when I got into fighting. I got even stronger, and I got *fast*, man, and nimble, like a cat. Still chubby.
Body-building culture is a bunch of crap, my dude. Functional muscle is not necessarily toned or lean. You can be swole as hell and still be heavy. And that’s cool.
Embrace your inner barbarian. And when fatphobic little gym twinks try to body shame you, you should DESTROY THEM with your MIGHTY AXE

I mean… it sort of worked? But that’s a risk even more present in an age before antibiotics than it is today.

Personally, I don’t understand the point of the autopsy either. I’m pretty sure that Larrey knew it was septicemia (probably we would call it sepsis today?), if I remember correctly? That, or some other nasty infection. But we know Lannes didn’t die from the amputation, because that procedure went well!
The irony here is that Larrey used amputation to prevent gangrene, which was the standard "treatment" for the time, and instead of gangrene, Lannes got septicemia.

@michel-feuilly Is this a size comparison between Ney and Kléber?
You may already know that, but I just read that the marshals were actually small earlier... We make fun of Napoleon, but some were smaller than Napoleon, including Lannes, who is apparently 1.68m tall.
Ney was apparently 1m72 and Soult 1m78... I thought Ney was much taller than Soult... It changes my vision of things...
Well is of course Mortier is between 1m94 and 2m02... that's not surprising to me
So in fact, a lot was within 1m70 and they were not much to do more than 1m80.

@itz-skyline , actually, tinted glasses already existed! Though I believe they were used for vision problems still, not just for shielding eyes from the sun.
Maximilien Robespierre famously had green tinted glasses!

I think Napoleonic tumblr needs to see this - on the set of Waterloo 1970, Sergei Bondarchuk gives instructions to sunglasses Napoleon and sunglasses Ney 😎

I've been reading about desaix more and I've discovered that he had siblings one sister I think, and two? Brothers.
Sadly, i really can not find anything useful about them execpt in a book that retells about desaix life its called desaix by claude desprez theres a digital copy of it on gallica but even that is limited.
Even his parents are quite a mystery for me.
So i thought to maybe ask you for a second hand to find more about his family and their names.
(I genuinely thought he was a only child 💀)
Okay, I’ll send you my findings when I have them!

Omg, I’m melting 🫠

A short comic about my cat Seraphine who passed away 3 years ago.
I imagine her being in a sort of heaven/AU being cared by Robespierre and the other Frev guys
