a/n: had tons of fun writing this really warm and cozy sungjin, thank you for the request!! tbh, i always see him as someone i’d be comfortable to share everything that’s on my mind. and i feel like he’s one of the very few people who will never judge you for your stupid mistakes but is also someone who needs to be taken care of. im blabbering too much. enjoy the story! :)

There was nothing special on the day you first met Park Sungjin. Like any other normal college student, you were able to find yourself a small circle you can trust and have fun with. Because of them, you have encountered the seemingly quiet and mysterious guy from the engineering class. He was best friends with the guy your close friend, Erin, was dating.

If first impressions last, like how they say it does, you’re fairly sure you would barely get more acquainted with a Park Sungjin. Unlike you, Sungjin is more reserved with a constant hang of serious air around him, like the type of person who barely laughs when someone makes a joke in front of him. He doesn’t always hang out with a lot of people but when he does, he’s always got an earphone dangling in one of his ears as if saying he’s only halfway present. He dresses neatly albeit casually—oftentimes in a plaid or button-down shirt and faded jeans with his dark, wavy hair falling shortly before his dark brown eyes.

He’s a pretty decent guy but not really the type you see yourself to be dating. But when you accidentally met him at the movie house alone and decided to grab dinner after, you two hit it off so smoothly. Turns out you both share the love for the book that was recently adapted onto the big screen. You two talked over dinner nonstop about the movie, how it varies against the book, the great and bad parts that were changed, the cast that played the role, the cinematography, the lines. Your exchange that night was nothing but informative and honestly, you craved more to be with him after that night so you asked him to hang out with you again. Sungjin already had a perfect proposal to invite you the second time if you didn’t ask. His mind worked extra hard trying to keep up with the conversation with you while thinking about how to ask you out for the second time at the back of his mind.

It was a ticket to an international classical play that he had up his sleeves which you gladly accepted.

One impromptu date was followed by a few more. After classes, you will meet over snacks or spend time in the library, reading and studying together. On weekends, you will try to watch movies you find interesting or go to museums.

You dating each other has not been a complete secret from your friends and you’re glad at how supportive they are to your new relationship.  Somehow, you learned that Sungjin is actually an easy-going person, he talks and laughs a lot when he’s comfortable with the people he’s with. Your friends think that your relationship is pure and innocent—almost platonic as one could say—but they couldn’t be any more wrong. It’s not like you have to tell anyone but you laugh inside when some of your friends ask about the status of your sex life. Instead of standing by you decided to go wander backstage. Day6? Hmm, Day6 sounds so familiar... Maybe it was time to go see who this band was, so you didn’t have to be so damn curious.

Without Tris having any idea you left by her side, you began to walk around backstage just wandering around. Day6... You swear you heard that name somewhere... You continued to walk till you ended up in a hallway. You took one look around the hall and then back at the door. There was a huge room that said dressing room.

You wanted to open the door and see if the artists were there but what if they are naked. Psh! You could get kicked out before even seeing what they look like.

Just as you were about to turn around, you heard the door open, and you took one turn around and your eyes widened when you met a pair of eyes that you’ve seen before...

Why does this pair of eyes look so damn familiar...? You continued to stand at the man standing right in front of you and you suddenly felt like time froze and your heart dropped...

Wow...

It was your ex-best friend... Sungjin...

It’s been three years since you last spoke to Sungjin... You knew he wanted to do music, but you never expected to meet him like this... Showing up at his concert... Without even knowing about it...

“Excuse me,” Sungjin says looking at you and all you could do was just stare at him.

Does he not recognize you? You didn’t feel like you changed much on your appearance. Either a Sungjin has a terrible memory or Sungjin knows exactly who you are but just wants to avoid you. You pushed to the side and watched Sungjin walk off leaving you there completely froze and speechless

What the hell just happened? Did Sungjin not have a clue who you were? Did you mean that little to him? You snapped out of your thoughts and just as you were about to turn back around you suddenly heard someone speaking to you.

“Excuse me, but do you mind giving me a hand?” A tall young fella stood right in front of you with an ear monitor in his hands. Wait, does he think you work here?

You were about to let him know you were just a guest however you didn’t feel like explaining yourself first and second of all you remember watching your friend put an ear monitor on a person before, so you were able to help him out. You got a hold of the item onto your hands and helped the tall attractive male out and tried your hardest not to say anything stupid.

Just as you were helping him out, he was now trying to have a conversation with you.

“Hey... I haven’t seen you around before, are you new around here?” The cute stranger asks, and you look at him.

“No, but I’m here visiting a friend.” The stranger didn’t seem to be bothered by the fact that you didn’t work here, instead he seemed to be okay with it.

“First time coming to our concert?” The male asked as soon as you finished, and you looked at him.

“Yes, that obvious?” You questioned him and he nodded.

“Yes, I mean it seems like you have no idea who I am.” That was true but you didn’t want to be rude and agree with the guy.

“That’s not true... I know exactly who you are,” That was a pure lie and to be honest you were hoping that the guy would just drop it and believe you, however, the opposite of that happened.

“Alright, what’s my name and the group I’m in?” He asks, crossing his arms looking right into your eyes and you could suddenly feel your palm sweat up. Shit! What does he look like to you?

“Um, your group is called Day6, and ... Your name is....” You tried to look around and you noticed a list of names. There were five names on that list... You recognized Sungjin's name so you know the stranger standing in front of you must be on that list.

“Brian Kang?” You asked slowly, glancing at the stranger. He grabbed ahold of your shoulder and smiled widely.

“Yeah, you’re right!” What? You just guessed.

“Really?” You asked, completely shocked and he laughed and shook his head.

“No,” Damn it! Just when you thought that you were about to get away with lying to the guy... You were wrong, you weren’t even shocked, to be honest.

“My name is Park Jae Hyung, but you can call me Jae,” he says pulling out his hand going in for a proper handshake and you smiled and got a hold of his hand and giggled.

“Well, my name is Y/N,” You smiled and before any more words can be said, there you find your best friend Tris walks right up to you and looks at you.

“Girl, did you just wander off by yourself?” Tris asks and she didn’t realize you had someone right by you till she looked up and then smiled.

“Oh Hello! Didn’t see... You made a friend.” You looked at Jae and then back at your best friend Tris.

“Tris I would like you to meet Jae, Jae meet my best friend Tris.” You said introducing the two and they both exchanged a proper handshake with one another and then before Jae can say a word, you hear someone call him over.

“Jae, we go on stage in 5 minutes,” Jae looked at you and smiled.

“See you around,” You smiled and by then he walked off. Jae just completely distracted you with the fact that Sungjin was here... And wait, that must mean Jae is in Sungjin’s group... Wow...

“Did you come backstage just to make friends?” You rolled your eyes and looked at Tris.

“No, I was just curious to see who the band members were... But now that I met one of them, I’m pretty excited to see what they have to offer.” Tris smiles and you were going to tell her that you’ve seen Sungjin, but you decided to just let it go.

Tris knew about your friendship with Sungjin and how you were madly in love with him... She was there when you were alone trying your hardest to move on... But it’s been a while since you even mentioned the name Sungjin so instead of saying anything you wanted to act like even though he may be here... He did not affect you...

“Ready to watch the show?” Tris asks and you nodded. From that point on, both of you walked back to where you originally were and stared at the screen.

Showtime...

You were surprised that Tris didn’t happen to notice Sungjin standing right there in front of the stage. But to be honest you were glad she didn’t notice... You didn’t feel like talking about the past... Just thinking about it now even brings back memories you wish you could forget forever...

You watched every one of them play their instrument and sing their heart out. However, as much as you tried your hardest to avoid looking at Sungjin... He was the one who caught your attention the most.

How come one close bond suddenly means nothing to him... Did you mean nothing to him? Did he really forget everything about you?

You tried your hardest to hold back your tears... You took a deep breath and just as you thought your thoughts were messing with you, Day6 began to sing another song and the moment the first lyrics were sung... you felt like the song was towards you. You could be wrong... But it just felt like the song was talking to you.

I hate the times I had with you

After I lost you

Everything became meaningless

Maybe you were overreacting... Maybe this was all in your head, but those words felt like it was for you... You were already feeling some type of way seeing your ex-best friend pass right by you and now hearing these words wasn’t making the situation any better...

“Um... Where’s the bathroom?” You asked Tris trying your hardest to not let a tear slip away and she looked at you and could tell right off the bat something was up but instead of asking she gave you the directions and in a matter of seconds you were off to go be alone.

*Flashback*

“Sungjin... don’t you ever wonder where we will be years from now?” You asked as you watched Sungjin tune up his guitar. He stopped himself from what he was doing and looked right at you.

“Still best friends?” Sungjin said and you looked over at him and playfully rolled your eyes and smiled.

“I’m serious. I mean I know your dream is to become this popular superstar with your music and my goal is to become this journalist who can travel the world... But what if this ruins our friendship?” You asked Sungjin and at this point, you noticed how he stopped putting much mind to his guitar and had all his attention on you.

You noticed Sungjin putting his guitar down next to him and grabbed a hold of your hand looking right at you.

“Where is this all coming from all of a sudden?” Sungjin asks as he looks directly into your eyes and the truth was it came out of nowhere... No, that's a lie... You were doing some thinking and your biggest fear is that something that’s bound to happen if Sungjin suddenly finds out your feelings towards him.

Sungjin has been by your side since the two of you were younger and to be honest you were beyond scared to lose him as a friend just because you know you can never have him as anything more than just your friend...

“Nothing... I'm just wondering what will happen to us?” You asked, staring directly back at Sungjin and he sighs.

“You know that won’t ever happen. I will always be by your side no matter what. I’m pretty sure you’ll get sick of me before I get sick of you.” You smiled and couldn’t help but feel your heart leap with excitement.

Those were the words you wanted to hear...

Who would have guessed that you were right...? The moment you opened up Sungjin and he went off to live his dreams he would forget you even existed... It sucks and hurts but you shouldn’t be surprised that this happened if anything you should have guessed this was going to happen...

You shook your head and tried to remove the memories you had with Sungjin. You turned on the sink in front of you and in no time, you got a hold of the water that was rushing down and just let it hit your face.

You needed water to maybe wake you up from this shock that you have just seen Sungjin again after so long... You looked at yourself in the mirror and sighed.

Just relax...

In no time you recollected yourself from letting any tears fall out of your eyes and sighed. Okay, you just must pretend like Sungjin doesn’t exist...

If only it was easier said than done...

You left the bathroom and before you knew it you were so caught up looking down at the ground that you didn’t happen to notice that there was a person right in front of you. You looked up and there that familiar you once saw was right there in front of you once again.

Wait... Shouldn’t he be on stage?

“S-sorry,” You blurted out and you tried to walk off thinking Sungjin did forget about you till...

“Wait...” You stopped from walking and turning around.

“W-what?” Wait, why is Sungjin suddenly stopping you...

“Do I know you from somewhere?” Sungjin asks now looking directly into your eyes and at this point, you felt your throat dry up and felt speechless...

Of course, he knows you... You were his best friend... He was your best friend... But everything changed when he went to pursue his dreams...

“No...” You asked to avoid eye contact and you could feel Sungjin's eyes still glued to you.

“Well, I better get go-”

“Y/N?” Sungjin suddenly says your name and you froze.

So...

Sungjin did remember you... The moment you heard him say your name you felt this sting in your chest... It brought back so many memories that made you want to bawl your eyes out right in front of him, but you had to hold back your tears... It’s time to be strong...

“I... I have to go...” Without giving Sungjin a chance to say anything else you walked over to where Tris was, and your heart was racing out of your chest. That did not just happen...

Sungjin did not just say your name... There is no way in hell Sungjin even remembers who you are... What the hell is going on?

“Tris... I don’t think I can stay here any longer...” You thought you were going to be able to control the feelings you felt towards Sungjin but now that he remembers who you are... it seems nearly impossible.

“What why?” You didn’t want to explain... All you wanted to do right now was just go home and just hide from the world.

“Can we talk later... Please....” Tris could tell from the body language that you wanted to leave... She silently nodded her head and smiled.

“Text me when you get home.” You nodded, grabbed a hold of your belongings, and in a matter of seconds you were finding the way to the nearest exit.

You had to leave before Sungjin went back on stage... You couldn't bear any more of his songs. You’re probably overreacting and just assuming that the songs are about you... But either way, the lyrics hurt you... It reminds you of the past...Before Sungjin and you stopped talking... Before that day he left without saying goodbye...

You were so close to the door till you heard wait. You turned around and you found the same guy you met before the concert even began.

“Hey, where are you going? The show’s not over yet.” Jae asks as he smiled and you felt bad, but you had to go, you can’t stay any longer...

“I know! But I have to go...” You didn’t know how to explain why you had to leave... Jae sighed and smiled.

“Well, I hope we can see each other again,” Jae says, not asking any more questions and you didn’t want to be rude, so you smiled.

“Me too,” Before you left, you looked to your left and saw Sungjin just standing there looking right at you, and at that point you walked the opposite direction, finally exiting.

Sungjin’s Point of View

It’s been 3 years. 3 years since we last spoke to one another... 3 years from the last time I even saw her. It was Y/N...

I don’t know exactly what happened. But it’s far too late to fix anything now. When I first saw Y/N I didn’t seem to recognize her until the second time we met eyes, and everything hit me. Everything the two of us have been through and now... She can’t even stand being in the same room as me.

What now? She ran off and to be honest I couldn’t seem to stop her. I have no idea what to tell the girl... And how to make anything right. I did fuck everything up.

I was going to let everything go, but suddenly after watching Y/N run off I randomly grew some courage and thought... I know we can’t go back to how we used to be... But it doesn’t hurt to apologize, right?

I tried to follow her after I saw her talking to her friend but before I could catch up and before she made it to the exit door, I noticed Jae stopping her halfway.

“Hey, where are you going? The shows not over yet. “Wait, does Jae know her?

“I know! But I must go... “She responded and I knew it was because of me.

“Well, I hope we can see each other again,” What did I miss here? I stopped walking any further and just watched the two have a conversation.

“Me too,” she responds and before Jae could say anything else, she saw you and was so quick to walk in the opposite direction and leave.

She must hate me... Can I blame her?

“Hey, does she know you?” Jae asks, looking right at me and I just stare at the door she left in and sighed.

“Yeah... She knows me more than anyone else.”

I have no idea how we are ever supposed to fix this... Is this even possible that the two of you can fix anything?
