~ New Feature ~
Tumblr media
Hi Hello ,,
We were thinking about starting a new feature on our blog. What would happen would be that ever 2 weeks or once a month we give all of you a theme, or five prompts words or a one line prompt.
We leave the story and the member up to you
The length can be as short or as long as you wish.
This is an effort to encourage more people to get writing for Day6 without the commitment of a blog. We offer the feature of crediting your work or leaving it on anonymous if you wish.
Please like or reblog the post if you like the idea or would be interested in taking part.
If we get positive feedback about this feature we will post more info in the coming days. Follow @mydayimagines in the mean time because we will be posting work about this feature on here.
We’d like to thank @lyricalwritings for the idea for this new feature

Pinky Promise
I’m in a writing slump right now but this writing prompt blog inspired me for this bestfriend!youngk fanfic. The bolded sentences in the story are from that writing prompt blog. And because I’m on mobile, I can’t do the read more thingy..
“I wanted to tell you all my secrets, but you became one of them.” word count: 500+ genre: fluff; bestfriend!youngk pairing: reader x youngk rating: general
You placed your planner inside your bag and approached Brian. You saw that he was holding a bunch of letters - sealed in different colored envelopes. “How many times do people confess their love to you?” You asked him. “Damn, you guys have a lot of letters.. or should I say a love letters.” You snatched a few of the envelopes that Brian was holding. “I’ll help you with that.” You placed the letter in a box full of its kind. You thought about yours, hidden in your planner. Forever kept in-between the pages, never reaching its destination.
“Thanks for helping me. Oh, and you can leave an hour early for your class… don’t wanna be in the way with your studies.” Brian sighed. “Jae’s supposed to be here helping me..” He was busy placing some of his things inside a box. Their band found a nicer apartment than the one they’re currently living in. He sighed. “Sungjin has this radio guesting today. Wonpil and Dowoon’s are MCs today. And Jae forgot that he’s filling up Bernard’s slot in his radio show. I can’t move the moving day, the truck’s already here. Thank you so much, y/n! You’re always dependable.” He smiled. Oh, that smile….
“No worries! My next class is at 5:30pm, it’s all good.” You glanced at the clock. “It’s 1pm, I still have a lot of time. Plus, my next class is philosophy, the professor’s pretty chill too…” You paused. “So, how many times do people confess their love to you?” You really wanted to know the answer. It’s not like you were jealous - you had no right to be one though, it’s just that those girls, in your opinion, were all brave enough to let Brian know their feelings. While you’re here, being the ever dependable best friend who’s hiding everything from him.
“I feel like if I tell you, you’ll get mad.” He chuckled.
“I’ll get mad??” You read between the lines. “Why would I?” Your heart beat faster and your hands felt cold. Could this be?
“Yeah. I think you’d get mad and tell me everything’s getting in my head.. that I’m changing.. blah blah blah..” He laughed. “You always get mad at me.”
Your heart sank. Oh…. “Well, yeah! You’ve gained a lot of unnecessary attention.” You reminded yourself to stop acting like the jealous girlfriend when it’s clear that you’re just the ever dependable best friend.
“Yeah… unnecessary…” He placed a few books and notebooks inside the box with his name on it. “Yours is the only necessary attention I want.” He mumbled.
You didn’t catch what he said because of the loud music that came on. “Huh? Did you say something?” You asked him. “I love your song selections but it’s too loud. Don’t you guys get a lot of complaints about this?” You went to the speaker and lowered the volume down.
“No, I didn’t say anything.” He smiled. “That’s actually one of the reasons why we’re leaving too… we’ve found an apartment with soundproof walls.” He continued placing books in the box but this time, Jae’s name was on it. “Man, Jae doesn’t even read most of these books.” You and Brian laughed and continued packing.
You thought that maybe, being like this is better than letting him know your feelings for him. I’m Serious came on, and you wondered who the song is for. And, maybe, you thought, that that’s the problem… you’re always left wondering.

Um hey! How are ya doing? I was wondering if you could recommend me some Day6 blogs? I recently cleared out my followers list and my dash is almost empty. :T
!! tysm for thinking of me! tbh i don’t follow as many day6 blogs as i really should, but i can do my best!
of absolute importance is miss key @w-npil she’s the love of my life and has both quality loving-wonpil posts and also some Hot Takes
i’m part of @day6-net, which includes a bunch of content creators and will include more when key finds time through her school schedule to open applications again! but from there you can find a whole lot of blogs to follow, and maybe it can give you more than i can
@day6pls has a bunch of good stuff as a more general day6 blog; they’re lovely!
i’m double-biased and one of my biases is wonpil, so i follow @fuckyeahkimwonpil for updates and plenty of lovely fansite photos! if you’re not wonpil biased i promise there are update sites for each member@fybriankang @fy-parksungjin @fy-jae-park @fyeah-dowoon@fyday6 is an update blog for the whole group
as far as writers go, @day6writers is a net that has a bunch of talented fanfic authors! i’m not gonna claim to know what kind of fic you might be looking for, if any, so i’ll leave that to you, but though lu @jahehyung has been on hiatus for a bit her fics are up on ao3 and they’re amazing. @dat-town has lovely reader inserts, and there are plenty more to be found!
@texts-from-day6 and @incorrectdaysix are both hilarious! i love incorrect quotes, and both of them have Quality Content.
@lqdaysix makes my heart flutter
@brianskangs @busanduo really pop off in their tags
@dorks6 @youngksnose make BEAUTIFUL gifs
@calgoshi makes the cutest moodboards
as you can see i’m big on content creators getting love and appreciation so if there are other writers or gifmakers or fanartists or moodboard makers or anyone else please please please let me know!!

How Drunk was I?
Tumblr media
Pairing: Reader x Brian/ Young K
Words: 475
Warnings: Mention of alcohol and being drunk.
a/n: #28 (”How drunk was I?”) requested by @unlikely-kryptonite. I hope you don’t mind me tagging you! Anyway, thank you for requesting, it truly means a lot. I hope you enjoy what I have written for you!
Brian rolled over and his stomach suddenly turned sick and queasy. His head was sore, and with each move brought him nausea and unbalance, even lying against the safety of the mattress. His insides felt sour, and he wasn’t sure if he was going to vomit or cry. Possibly both.
The bedroom door shifted, and Brian squinted against the light. He could see small lights bouncing around the room and he groaned, he was well and truly experiencing the worst hangover of his life.
“Morning sunshine.” He hears you say, but he makes no attempt to speak in the fear his stomach was about to throw up the contents of last nights dinner that he’d shoved down his throat at about three o'clock in the morning. Instead, he groaned in acknowledgement, and groaned again when he heard you laughing.
“You look rough.” You tell him, placing a glass of water at the bedside with a small white pill he assumed to be pain killer. He reached for it, and took no hesitation in downing the entire glass. Then, he regretted it, because the icy liquid made his body feel uneasy and cold. He put the empty class back against the bedside table and cuddled back in the warmth of the blankets.
He hears you giggling again, but this time you’re shifting the mattress behind him, and he doesn’t wait a single moment to turn over and rest his head on your legs.
“I love you so much.” He manages to mumble, feeling a little better as your fingertips lace through his hair.
“I should hope so, I gave up my bed for you last night.” You tell him, jokingly, but he feels instantly foul, and not just because of the hangover.
“You’re kidding? You should have left me on the sofa.”
“And give you a bad back on top of a horrendous hangover? No, I couldn’t do that. I knew you’d be suffering enough.”
He grumbles, “Share the bed with me next time.”
“And risk being puked all over? I’d rather not, thanks.”
“Oh come on, I wasn’t that bad, surely.”
You laughed, “Oh Brian, you can’t remember coming over last night, can you?”
“No, why? How drunk was I?”
“You were flirting with me.” You told him, giggling as if you were remembering it all while Brian was still trying to picture the scene.
“What’s wrong with that?” He mumbled, pouting slightly.
“Brian, you asked me if I was single and then cried when I said no.”
He hid his face in your lap, shying away as you laughed loudly from above him.
“I’m never drinking ever again.” He stated, embarrassed.
You pressed a kiss to his head, soothing his hair down from it’s bedhead state. “You said that last time, baby.”
“Yeah, well I mean it this time.”
“Sure thing Brian, sure thing.”

a heart among the moon and stars
pairing: reader x sungjin
genre: fantasy, fluff
word count: 3.2k
note: in time for valentines day & for @day6writers love month event, a fluff of a side story for i see the stars in your eyes, it’s been a while since i posted anything so i hope it’s decent.
“Sungjin! What are you doing?!” You were shocked to see the male hovering directly over you while you laid in bed. Sungjin’s face wasn’t the first thing you expected to see in the morning, especially not in your bedroom.
You couldn’t count how many times you’ve yelled his name over his odd actions and you thought by now he’d get tired of you fussing at him.
You never imagined that for several long months an extraordinary person like Sungjin would be staying with you. Anyone who took a glance at him would think he’s nothing more than your average handsome guy in his twenties, but he was far from average. Sungjin was an alien prince from an unknown planet called Nohwa located behind Mars.
You gazed at the curious man whose big eyes shined brightly as he stared down at you, his lips curling into a smile.
“I want to sleep with you…” Sungjin finally spoke and you immediately put your hand in his face and pushed him away.  He always said weird things like that with a straight face and lately his words had the temperature rising in your cheeks.
Sungjin’s sole purpose of being on Earth was to mate with his so-called bride to keep his fading kingdom strong and you were the one he chose from light years away. Your wavelength out of millions of human girls was the only one that matched well with his.
You sat up in your bed, a frown tainting your features. “I told you I’m not mating with y-”
“Not to mate... I didn’t mean it like that.” Sungjin interrupted you. His smile had dimmed, and he seemed a little more serious than usual but even still his words had your heart racing.
“Then what did you mean?” You stared at him suspiciously, pulling your sheets closer to you.
Sungjin smiled once again, his head tilting to the side a bit.
“You seemed cold... so I thought maybe I could help keep you warm.” His words struck you to the point that you were sure your heart was about to explode and that would have been the end of your life right there.
He was right. You were feeling a bit cold while you slept but you were too lazy to break your comfortable position to see about the heater that had been having issues lately.
“I...” You cleared your throat as you started to speak again. Sungjin had learned to become somewhat considerate over the time he’s spent with you, he was learning human emotions and habits a lot more quickly these days and you wondered where he picked up on it all. You didn’t have the time to teach him like you wanted to due to college and your job at the grocery store so where was he processing this from?
“I’m fine Sungjin! I was just getting up anyway. How about breakfast?” You spoke quickly as you pulled back your sheets and got out of bed. Sungjin followed behind you stopping when you entered the bathroom and slammed the door in his face before he could respond.
“Yes, I want breakfast!” He shouted cheerfully. You slipped down to the bathroom floor and sighed, he shouldn’t be making you feel this way. As the days passed your heart seemed to do a lot of crazy things when it came to him and there was no way to stop it.
After cleaning yourself up a bit you left your bedroom and found Sungjin in the kitchen trying his best to tie your pink apron behind his back.
“Here… let me do it.” You smiled at him as you took the loose ends and tugged them gently behind his back, tying a perfect bow.
“Thank you!” Sungjin smiled and stood waiting for you to make your move. He really enjoyed helping you in the kitchen and you appreciated the extra set of hands.
Sungjin had learned to make eggs perfectly after practicing so many times and you were relieved he figured out how to finally use the toaster which meant no more scorched bread.
Fifteen minutes was all it took for the both of you to whip up something easy to eat before you got ready to head out for work.
“Alright, I’m leaving now... please be good okay? If you leave the apartment... don’t forget to lock the door with the spare key and be careful not to break anything...anywhere.”
It was routine to give Sungjin talks before you left him alone. It didn’t hurt to remind him to keep his abilities under control, he seemed to listen to you since there had been no odd reports on the news about strange activity happening around the city.
Sungjin used to worry you so much that you refused to let him out of your apartment, but you soon realized that staying cooped up for so long couldn’t be good for anyone no matter what planet they came from.
“I’ll be back around 8pm okay. I’ll bring home pizza tonight too.” You said with your body halfway out the door. Sungjin turned to look at the clock on the living room wall, counting the hours to eight then he turned back to you.
“Okay 8pm.” He smiled and leaned toward you, his face stopping inches away from yours.
“What is it?” You questioned him while his luminous eyes lingered on yours.
“Since I’ve been good lately I was hoping you’d kiss me.” He grinned. “I learned that couples kiss each other good bye. So good bye!” He said, puckering his lips.
You blinked at him several times, your flustered heart pounding. “Kisses are for those who are dating Sungjin! I got to go!” You replied promptly and shut the door.
“Were not a couple...” You mumbled to yourself as you hurried off.
Sungjin pouted once you were gone, he was left with nothing interesting to do for the next several hours. Remembering the heater problem, he made his way over to the thermostat pressing his index finger against it.
He watched the device surge with electricity beneath his fingertip and emit a faint glow that signified it was fixed. After that task was done he decided to check out what was on TV. Television was how he learned when you were busy. He’d spend hours watching reality TV and movies, learning the good and bad of human life.
Though there were something he still didn’t understand, instead of asking you a million questions Sungjin decided he would prove himself and figure out human life on his own.
It was 2pm when a movie he hadn’t seen before aired. The film was about a man who was in love with a woman, the genre right up his alley. Sungjin remembered he needed to learn about love if he wanted you to love him so he made it a goal to absorb all he could about the feeling.
There was one scene that grabbed his attention the most in the film. The man in the movie planned a special event for the girl he loved to celebrate something called,
“Valentine’s day...?” He repeated the words after the male lead.
Sungjin’s eyes glowed, the reflection of the movie in his irises. He saved key points of the film in his mind to use as a reference and turned off the TV once he was done.
From what he observed so far this Valentine’s day was a holiday for couples and people in love. The guy expressed his loved to the girl by making her treats and buying her lots of pretty things called gifts. It was a day that happened on the fourteenth day of the second month in Earth’s year.
Sungjin got up and made his way to the front door, his eyes catching the calendar on the wall.
This Valentine’s Day was in two days and he was just finding out about it now. He wondered why you never mentioned an important holiday to him and now he wanted to surprise you.
Humans liked surprises if they were done right.
Sungjin remembered the last time he tried to surprise you. You got angry at him and it left him with a horrible feeling, a feeling humans called sadness, and when he disappeared after you yelled at him he believed he made you sad too. This time around he would make you happy.
He grabbed the spare key you left behind and headed out the front door. From the information he gathered he knew all the right things to make this holiday special.
He left your apartment bound for a store, any store that wasn’t the one you worked at would do. Sungjin couldn’t have you seeing him there and figuring out his plans.
He found a store just further down the street from your work place, his big eyes lighting up at the red and pink decorations everywhere. There were lots of items that oozed Valentine’s day and he needed to get them all. Sungjin watched the people who entered the store grab a big basket and push it around placing all kinds of stuff inside. He mimicked their actions and began filling his with any and everything he thought was Valentines related.
He smiled at the odd stares he received, ignoring the fact that his shopping basket had overflowed with stuff animals, flowers and candy.
The brunette hummed as he made his way toward the exit, numerous eyes settled on his happy figure marching toward the door with unpaid items.
“Stop right there, sir you have to pay for these.” A man dressed in uniform stood in front of him. Sungjin gave him a confused stare.
“Pay? I can’t just take these? They’re gifts for someone special…” He smiled at the man who frowned in return.
The husky male grabbed ahold of Sungjin’s shopping basket.
“Yeah… you can have these when you pay us first. Now get out of here and come back when you have money.” The older male spoke sternly as he nudged the alien prince out of the automated doors.
Sungjin stood in thought, he didn’t have any money and he couldn’t ask you for any or you would know he was up to something. He closed his eyes as he stood statue-like outside of the store. He was rummaging through all the saved images and clips of the movie he embedded in his memories.
“I got it.” He said to himself as he opened his eyes. His new plan was a good one, one that might be more meaningful. Sungjin was going to make you sweets with ingredients back at your apartment and he decided to pick his own flowers. There had to be some that sprouted during the cold season, right?
Wrong.
Sungjin couldn’t find any flowers growing in the nearby neighborhoods and making sweets had turned out terribly wrong too, especially since vegetables didn’t belong in candy recipes.
Disappointed with himself he sat on your living room couch with his legs crossed until you got home. When you entered he smiled while trying to hide his sadness. He wanted to make this holiday a special surprise for you by doing something that humans would do but instead he would have to rely on something he knew best.
You awoke to an eerie silence, it was a brand-new morning and you were surprised to not hear any noise from Sungjin.  Just a couple of days ago he surprised you in your bedroom but today he wasn’t there.
It was odd, the atmosphere around you two felt strange. Sungjin seemed quieter and less curious about things as if something was plaguing his mind. You didn’t have the time to sit down with him however, until now.
You had a free day for once which meant no work and no classes to worry about. You felt relived and a part of you felt happy about spending time with the alien prince, maybe the two of you could go see a movie and do a little shopping.
You picked up your cellphone to check the time, a notif from your calendar signaling that it was February 14th, Valentine’s Day. You completely forgot that the holiday was near, the days seemed to pass so quickly when you were busy it was hard to keep up with anything.
It wasn’t a big deal however, you didn’t have anything planned and it’s not like Sungjin had any idea of what the love holiday was about.
He was clueless about the feeling in general. You let out a small sigh as you swung your legs over the edge of your bed. Sometimes you wished he blended in with your average guys, being with someone on a romantic level did cross your mind every now and then.
You fixed breakfast for the both of you. Sungjin who was usually so eager to help you out seemed calmer. The most he’d done was pour the orange juice and spread jam on the toast, and it wasn’t like you didn’t mind but you wondered what his deal was.
The day didn’t go like you thought it would. Sungjin didn’t want to leave the apartment for once which left you to go see a movie alone.
He told you he didn’t feel well, and his words had you wondering if aliens really got sick. Sungjin didn’t want you to stay home because of him. He encouraged you to go out and have fun and so you did or tried to anyway.
You couldn’t get him off your mind in the movie theater especially with couples all around. Being out with him would have been nice for the night.
You left the movie and stopped by the pharmacy to get different medicines just in case he needed them. You even stopped by the bakery to pick up a few pastries you knew he liked.
“Sungjin! I’m home!” You called out to him as you pushed open your front door. It was silent, and he didn’t answer as you stepped foot inside your place.
Everything around you seemed still. Your eyes caught the clock on the wall and the hands didn’t move at all. What was this? It was like your surroundings were frozen in place and you remembered experiencing something like this before.
“I’m here…” You heard Sungjin’s voice from behind you. You turned around to see him dressed in a button-down shirt, his hair parted to reveal his forehead. He was so suave his appearance had your eyes widening. You’ve never really seen him out of the sweaters and comfortable pants you bought for him, so this look was refreshing.
“What’s going on? Did you freeze time again?” You questioned him as you placed your bags and box of treats down on your dining table.
“I did… and I hope you’ll like it.” You were confused as to what was going on. What did he mean by I hope you’ll like it? and why was he dressed like this? Sungjin was more handsome tonight and his eyes sparkled as he looked at you. He held out his hand to you and you placed yours in his. You heart pounding against your chest while your stomach churned with butterflies.
When he smiled at you this time it seemed a lot different, it was a smile that had your knees weakening at the sight of it. Sungjin led you outside to gaze at the still city lights. Nothing was in motion but the two of you.
“Hold on okay?” He said as he linked an arm around your waist pulling you close to him. With one smooth jump in the air the both of you were floating. You squealed, a bit shocked from being in the air, but he assured you that you’d be okay. The two of you landed on some unfamiliar rooftop of a house, a blanket spread under your feet.
“Have a seat.” Sungjin said as helped you sit. You kept your eyes on him as he let your hand go.
“Sungjin was is this?” You asked curiously. He only smiled again and turned away from you to look at the sky. With a snap of his fingers the city’s lights disappeared leaving your surroundings dark for a few seconds.
With another snap of his fingers the stars that you barely noticed before became brighter. When Sungjin wriggled his fingers the balls of light flickered in a beautiful pattern which had you in awe.
Sungjin motioned toward the moon with his index finger as if he were telling a person to come near and it did. He positioned the natural satellite in a way, so you could get a good look at it and with a wave of his hand the moon underwent it’s many phases, a wonderful sight to see so up close.
You were amazed at everything he was doing. Watching Sungjin made you really appreciate what an extraordinary man he was.
“Now for the final surprise…” You heard him say. Sungjin wrote something with his finger in the air, and a line of light connected the stars forming a message you never imagined you’d see.
Happy Valentine’s Day ~
The message ended with a heart beautifully drawn in the stars. The sight might have been the greatest thing you’ve witnessed in your entire life time and the fact that it was solely for you made it truly special.
You were so overcome with emotion that the corner of your eyes welled with tears.
“Do you like it?” Sungjin asked cheerfully, you were happy to hear that pep in his voice again. You figured he must have been acting strangely because he was hiding this from you. You had no idea he even knew what Valentine’s day was.
“I love it.” You answered him as you stood up.
“How did you know about Valentine’s Day?” You asked wiping a stray tear from your cheek.
“I’ve been watching movies… I try to learn all I can from TV when you’re busy.” He smiled. Of course! It had to be television you didn’t know why you hadn’t thought of that in the first place. He was learning things on his own and that made you proud.
“I didn’t think you’d like it if I used my abilities… so I tried to buy you things at first, but I didn’t have money and making you sweets were hard too.” He chuckled. You giggled along with him.
“Sungjin… you just moved the entire sky for me… I don’t see how you thought  I wouldn’t like this!” You smiled
Sungjin shrugged and you took steps toward him.
“Thank you, I really love this. This is the best Valentines gift I’ve ever received.” You assured him. The two of you stood staring at each other with smiles, until you moved in with the plan of giving him a simple kiss on the cheek. Your heart urged to do otherwise so you planted one on his lips.
You kissed him as the stars began to fade and the moon began distancing itself. The city lights flickered on one by one as he pulled you closer. This was the feeling you had secretly longed for and the kiss that he’d been waiting on.
When you pulled away from his lips the city’s sounds could be heard in your ears again, time flowing as it should.
Sungjin stood staring at you with flushed cheeks, happy about your first kiss together.
“That was my gift to you, Sungjin…” You smiled again, clearing your throat a bit.
“Happy Valentine’s day.”

Je vous aime
Dedicated to the lovely Jen aka @dawnpil for the @day6writers Secret Santa project. I’ve chosen your bias wrecker because I thought the story would fit him better than Wonpil. *-* I hope you like it! 💖 Happy holidays, dear! 🎁
Pairing: Kang Younghyun (Young K) x reader
Setting: wedding au; best friends to lovers au
Genre: fluff, comedy, slice of life
Words: 3k
The translation of the French expressions used in the story can be found at the end. 😊
“Hey!” You heard Younghyun’s voice from the living room. His deep, raspy voice indicated that he had just woken up though it was nearly midday.
“Oh well… what’s this? What happened? Oh my gosh, my head hurts so much and ouch!” There was a loud thud as he probably tripped over something or bumped into the table. “AND WHY AM I NOT WEARING CLOTHES?” He exclaimed frantically as he probably caught sight of his suit and shirt on the floor. Yep, you saw it coming sooner or later.
You took a deep breath before you made your way to the living room, just to come in sight with your panicky best friend who never had a more confused expression on his face before.
Luckily, he got back on his shirt, so you didn’t have to see his bare chest anymore. Not like you wouldn’t have been pleased to see his naked upper body but you were sure it would distract you from doing pretty much anything. The sight of his messy hair already made you want to play with his onyx-black curls.
As soon as you stepped into the living room, Younghyun’s eyes scanned you from top to bottom. The boy let out a relieved sigh when he realised that you wore your own clothes and looked perfectly radiant. You weren’t the one who had drunk almost two bottles of champagne the previous night.
“Did we… you know…” Younghyun stammered nervously and gulped as he waited for your answer.
“What?” You shrieked like you were asked if you had slept with an elephant. “Of course not, Younghyun! Unlike you, I was completely sober the whole night!” You huffed as if it heard your pride that he had assumed such a thing. You occasionally drank with your friends and co-workers but you never got to the point where you didn’t remember what had happened while you were drinking. The same could be said about Younghyun until Sungjin’s wedding.
You knew it was a bad idea to attend Sungjin’s wedding with Younghyun by your side and then leave him alone for some hours.
It was a horrible idea. It was an awful, abominable, outrageous and calamitous idea. It was the worst idea of the year.
Okay, maybe it wasn’t that bad but it was certainly not a sensible idea because without your supervision Younghyun got so drunk that he started babbling some French nonsense. At least, you were pretty sure that it was French because that was the only language other than Korean and English that your best friend could speak fluently. Not even drunk people could talk foreign languages fluently without years of studying. You were sure he didn’t talk Scottish or something like that.
“If you were sober, would you mind telling me why I woke up on this unfamiliar couch almost naked?” He looked at you with puppy eyes, the obsidian-black of his orbs shining affectionately. You couldn’t help but blush a bit when he stared at you like that. Your legs became jelly and your heart skipped a beat when he was in such a vulnerable state. You wanted to hug him but you were so pissed off after last night that you just couldn’t drag yourself to do it.
“You are just half-naked!” You corrected him as you thought back to the previous night.
“Okay, just half-naked!”
“Though you wanted to get rid of your pants too but I prevented you from taking everything off.” You remarked with a half-smile. You watched with amused eyes as your best friend’s jaw dropped. Literally.
“You can’t be serious!” His voice was almost pleading and you could tell that he was trying to recall anything from the day before but to no avail. Such quantity of alcohol would have left everyone confused.
“I am dead serious.” You nodded as seriously as possible, so he would believe you once and for all. Why would you say that he wanted to take everything off when even you didn’t want to believe it when he started to get undressed like you weren’t even there? Although you sometimes slept at each other’s places, you didn’t start stripping in front of each other. You weren’t those types of best friends.
Younghyun’s desperate expression made you realise that he wouldn’t leave your apartment if you didn’t tell him everything, so you sucked in a deep breath and pointed to the kitchen.
“I’ve made you soup for your hangover, so I suggest you eat it while I’m telling you what happened last night.” You recommended as you looked at your best friend’s horrified expression. He stared at like he had waited for his execution.
“Oh come on, Younghyun! You didn’t kill anyone, okay?”
“Oh okay…” He stuttered, still unsure of what he should believe but at least he followed you into the kitchen and took a seat on a chair.
You re-heated the soup for him and while he was slurping, you started telling him about the previous night. Of course, it wasn’t the whole story but you couldn’t tell him things like you thought he looked like a God in his suit and tie. Of course not!
Actually, the story started when you arrived at the wedding and Younghyun caught sight of his old friend who was an exchange student at the school where your best friend was studying and he spent a year in Seoul. Then, that so-called Jae went back to America and Younghyun couldn’t keep in touch with him for more than a year, so they hadn’t talked since then. Somehow Jae ended up getting a job in Busan and it turned out that he was a co-worker of Sungjin’s.
Sungjin was actually your cousin who always acted like your overprotective big brother, especially since you got yourself a best friend like Kang Younghyun. Younghyun may have been a gentleman most of the times but he could be really rude sometimes. Like not evil rude but “I’m playing with your feelings and I enjoy it “rude. The worst was still his “I’m a male and you’re a female and I know I can totally drive you crazy with my winks and bicep-showing and stuff like that” rude side.
Truth to be told, Sungjin wasn’t always particularly glad when he was in the same room with Younghyun because he knew about this side of him. Thank God you three didn’t meet up a lot of times because Sungjin was living in Busan and you and your best friend were studying in Seoul.
The wedding took place in Busan where the four of you met up again.
“Good to see you, bro!” Jae gave Younghyun a manly pat on his shoulders and then averted his eyes to you. “I always knew you had a good taste in women.” He commented with a cheeky smile.
You already opened your mouth to say something not too nice and lady-like but your best friend was faster than you.
“She’s not my girlfriend, Jae. She’s just my best friend.”
“Yep, just his best friend.” You repeated a bit too ironically but the edge of his tone hurt you a lot. Just his best friend? Why? Wasn’t it enough for him? Did he want more? Then why on Earth didn’t he tell you?
You were left with confused feelings and blurry memories of you two acting more than just best friends, therefore you weren’t in the state to talk to people. You wanted to get away from the source of your pain as much as possible. That’s why you exited yourself with a lame excuse and spent the rest of the night totally alone in the back of the garden, gazing at the stars and keep asking the same question. Did Younghyun love you more than just a friend?
What made you feel more miserable was the fact that you actually loved him like that. You realised that you liked him more than just your best friend when your father had died and he was there for you, literally spending every minute with you for a whole month. He was there to hold your hand, to be a shoulder to cry on and he was sleeping by your side every single day to make sure that you wouldn’t have nightmares.
After it was easier to deal with your mourning, he eventually moved back to the dormitory. Yet, you started yearning after his presence, the smell of his cologne on your pillow, the soothing touch of his when he drew invisible circles on your back and that smile of his that was like the sunrise after a rainstorm.
On the other hand, you had no idea if Younghyun felt the same. You two were very close and shared everything with one another – except your feelings towards each other.
Sungjin’s wedding changed everything though. You knew it was a mistake to leave your best friend with that bratty Jae because he had brought alcohols from America and spoiled the poor guy with it. On top of that, that swaggy kid who looked like Chicken Little from that cartoon even admitted the whole thing when you bumped into the two. To be precise, Younghyun bumped into you and Jae was behind him.
“What did you do to him?” You exclaimed frantically as your best friend nearly tripped over you.
“I didn’t do anything to him.” Jae shook his head nonchalantly. “He was the one to drank two whole bottles of champagne by himself”
“Then why didn’t you stop him?” Your voice rose higher as Younghyun’s facial expressions became less rigid and more childish. He didn’t look like himself at all. Considering that he never got drunk, you didn’t need to see him in such a state, nor help him with his hangover the day after. Though you felt like it would change after Sungjin’s wedding.
“He looked like he was doing okay.” Jae tried to play the innocent guy’s role but you weren’t one to believe his lies.
“Je suis bien, merci pour votre question.” Your best friend announced a bit louder than necessary, his words dripping off his tongue like honey. He looked like a drunk elementary school kid with that idiot smile on his face but you still found him cute. Gosh, why were you so weak when it came to him?
“What the heck is he talking about?”
“Dunno, man.” Jae shrugged his shoulders like he didn’t care about Younghyun’s condition but you sure did. That’s how you ended up dragging the drunk boy to the apartment where you stayed for the weekend because the oh so popular Jaehyung got a call and left reasoning that he was needed in a case of emergency. You quietly cursed under your breath when he evaporated, leaving you alone with your tipsy best friend and a heavy heart.
“Vous savez, vous avez de très beaux yeux.” Younghyun said with dreamy eyes as you were walking down the streets, getting closer and closer to the apartment with each step. In order to make sure that he wouldn’t break any of his bones, you held onto him like you held onto your sanity. Though he seemed to enjoy the situation; he even leaned in and whispered into your eyes the next time he spoke up.
“I don’t you know what you are talking about but sure.”
“Je voulais demander... voulez-vous être ma copine?” You really tried to search for anything that could help you with the translation but you never learned French (and you assumed it was French), so you were pretty much a hopeless case. You knew that Younghyun could speak French as his third language but to speak in another language when he got drunk? Wow, you weren’t sure humanity experienced a similar situation.
“Oh yeah, sure. Just keep on talking nonsense!” You rolled your eyes while your heart was hammering away rapidly. The thought crossed your mind that maybe he wasn’t talking absolute nonsense. What if his words actually made sense and maybe…. they meant something? Something that could affect your relationship.
Yet, you didn’t want to get your hopes up, plus he wasn’t easy to carry around, so you busied himself with thoughts other than the meaning of his words.
“C’est vrai? Et vous m’aimez? Parce que je vous aime.” He cooed into your ears and fluttered his eyelashes at you. A part of you wanted to slap him but the other part of you wanted to hug him.
Oh boy, why was everything so complicated when it came to Younghyun? You wanted him to look at you like that when he was sober again but you knew that his behaviour could only be blamed on his tipsiness.
“Well, at least that sounds familiar but I still don’t know what you are trying to say.” You let out an agitated sigh, glancing at your grinning best friend. Why was he so utterly gorgeous even when he was drunk? “We are almost at the apartment, just don’t vomit until we get there, okay?” You said even though you weren’t sure he could understand what you were talking about. You two didn’t speak the same language anyway.
“Oui, mon chou.”
Luckily, you arrived at the apartment just is time, so you could drag him to the third floor and put him to sleep. Of course, it wasn’t as easy as you initially assumed because opening the door seemed like the most difficult thing in the world when there was your drunk friend by your side of whom who you wanted to take care. Not to mention Younghyun’s one-man stripping show that didn’t help you to feel more at ease when you two finally got inside. You were already worn out by that time, so you couldn’t help but yell at the boy who managed to get rid of his suit and shirt before you scared him off. Then, he stopped and sat down on the couch half-naked.
Three long minutes went by and the drunk guy finally dozed off (much to your relief). Though you couldn’t say that you slept a lot in the room next to the living room because whenever he turned over his side or made some noise, you went to the living room to check up on him. At least you had a place to say, you thought to yourself, because one of Sungjin’s friend owned the place, hence you could stay there for the weekend.
One thing was for sure, it was a memorable wedding that you would never forget.
“So what did I say?” Younghyun inquired as he finished his soup. His obsidian-black orbs looked like a part of a giant universe – you could get lost in them without ever wanting to be found.
You shared the whole story with him, except the parts you felt too embarrassing to say out loud. For example, you told him that he started speaking in French but you skipped the part of you drooling over his handsomeness even when he was drunk.
“Well, only je vous aime was familiar but I’ve never heard of the others.” You shook your head, trying to recall his exact same words but they were only a blur. You didn’t know French anyway.
“Oh…” Younghyun’s features suddenly became rigid. You thought that there’s something wrong with him – like he was about to vomit – but before you could turn on your panic mode, he continued. “I know what that means.” He gulped nervously. He even scratched the back of his neck which he didn’t do unless he felt extremely uncomfortable.
“And what does that mean?”
“I love you.” The words rolled off his tongue like raindrops from the rooftop.
His words chilled you to the bones and sent unpleasant shivers down your spine. All the oxygen was sucked out of your lungs. Your heart was beating like a drum and you were suddenly afraid that it would break out of your ribcage. You could even feel the blood rushing through your veins. Small wonder why you were almost on the verge of fainting.
“O-Okay.” You cleared your throat in an attempt to snap yourself back to your senses. Why would he confess to you in French? On top of that, he could easily say that to you as your best friend. So why was he so nervous out of the sudden?
“It’s not okay.” Younghyun shook his head like he wanted to get rid of a nightmare.
“Why not?”
“Because I wanted to say this to you when I’m not drunk. And when I’m not talking to you in French.” Younghyun confessed right away, his eyes desperately searching for yours. You didn't even recover from your previous heart attack when he gave you another one. You thought it was only a dream and soon you would wake up in your own bed, laughing at the most ridiculous dream of yours.
"W-what?" You stuttered while your best friend nodded accompanied by a shy half-smile. Maybe he was still under the alcohol's effect.
"I love you, I just didn't know how to tell you. I didn't want you to feel like you have to love me back." He said seriously, his eyes shining oh so fondly.
You couldn't form words. Your mouth went dry and you felt a knot forming in your throat. It was the moment you had been waiting for, then why couldn't you muster a single word?
You didn't know how but your body moved without your will and you soon found your lips on Younghyun's champagne and cabbage-flavoured lips. It was definitely an extraordinary combination but you couldn't care less. You savoured his lips like you savoured all those years when you wanted to kiss him but didn't know if he felt the same.
Now you knew. Maybe you would even thank Chicken Little one day for prompting him to drink.
Translation:
“Je suis bien, merci pour votre question.”  - I’m fine, thank you for your question.
“Vous savez, vous avez de très beaux yeux.” - You know, you have beautiful eyes.
“Je voulais demander... voulez-vous être ma copine?” - I’ve been meaning to ask... would you like to be my girlfriend?
“C’est vrai? Et vous m’aimez? Parce que je vous aime.” - Is that right? And do you love me? Because I love you.
“Oui, mon chou.” - Yes, honey.

Pinky Promise (Part Two)
Here’s part two of Pinky Promise! The bolded phrase in the story is from a fortune cookie I got. To be honest though, I wanted to make a story out of a fortune cookie saying but it turned out this way. Haha! And since I’m on mobile, I can’t do the read more thingy..
PART ONE
“I wanted to tell you all my secrets, but you became one of them.” word count: 400+ genre: fluff; bestfriend!youngk pairing: reader x youngk rating: general
When you and Brian was still in elementary school, both of you made a pinky promise to never lie and keep secrets to each other. However, now, you are ready to cut off your finger because you broke the promise. How could you tell him you love him? When he always tells you how dependable you are as a best friend.. But, you thought, that having a broken heart and witnessing your love of your life being smothered with love by thousands of girls would suffice as a punishment.
You turned the television off. “Well, Brian’s gonna be an international heartthrob now… good for him.” The picture of Brian smiling at their concert in Europe still lingered in your mind. Who would’ve thought their band will be this big that the media covered their concert there?
“Oh, please! Just tell him you love him!” Your roommate replied. “Oh, wait, before you get preoccupied with your love problem, when’s the due date for our biology project again?”
“Let me just find my pla-” You searched your bag. “That’s weird.. I know I put it in my bag.”
“Why? What’s the matter?”
“My planner is missing.” You panicked. “My love letter for Brian’s also in there.”
Your roommate looked at you with shock. “Retrace your steps! Quick! We still have time to go back to school!” Both of you quickly went to the car.
After searching the places you’ve been at school today, you still haven’t found your planner.
“Are you sure you lost it today?” Your roommate said.
You thought hard. Lately, all of your professors haven’t been giving any assignments, quizzes or projects… did you even really write something in your planner this week?
“I’m sure that I placed it in my bag… but we haven’t had any school work today so… but still.. it should be in my bag.”
“How about last week? Or two weeks ago?”
“Well… last week I helped Brian pack fo-” You looked at your roommate. “Oh my god, Tracy…. do you think that maybe…”
“Girl, if you left it at their place… you better pray that Brian didn’t find out about your love letter.”
You suddenly felt anxious. What if Brian read the letter? What if he’d distance himself from you? And then you were left with assumptions and imaginations: Brian laughing while reading the letter. The other guys teasing him, Brian saying that he doesn’t like you. Brian thinking of nice ways on how to say that he doesn’t feel the same way.
The worst thing about this? You’d know all the answers when they get back home two days from now.
“Good job guys!” Sungjin handed water bottles to Dowoon, Wonpil, Jae and Brian. “I can’t believe it’s our last day here in Europe.”
“Yeah! But I can’t wait to be home! It’s freezing here!” Jae said. “It’s not good for me.” He sniffed and sneezed.
“Hyung, do you need some tissue?” Dowoon asked Jae.
Jae nodded. “Please!”
“Oh, I have some in my bag, Dowoonie.” Brian said. He was changing his clothes. “You can get it.”
Dowoon approached his bag and searched for the tissue. “Oh.. hyung! I didn’t know you like planners now.”
“What?” Brian approached Dowoon and looked at the planner. He flipped pages after pages and recognized the handwriting. “Aish, this is y/n’s planner.” He flipped the pages one more time and a piece of paper fell. He picked the piece of paper and unfolded it.
Sometimes, our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks.

Made of stardust and moonlight
Characters: space pirate!Sungjin & You
Setting: space au, apocalypse au, kind of soulmate au*
Genre: angst with cheesy happy end
Summary: He lost you and now he’s searching for you in every corner of the universe because he can’t sleep without seeing you in his dreams.
Words: 3.2k
* I combined Koi No Yokan (The sense one can have upon first meeting a person that the two of you are going to fall in love. Differs from “love at first sight” as it does not imply that the feeling of love exists, only the knowledge that a future love is inevitable.) & the Japanese belief that if you can’t sleep you are awake in somebody’s dream.
Dedicated to @httpsung! As your day6writers secret santa I wish you a very merry Christmas, Jae! ♥
Tumblr media
Somewhere far away, in a galaxy full of stars with names unknown to Earth-beings, there’s a lonely a ship, a bit ragged but well-lived in, called Silver Starlight. Behind the bulletproof glass windows, only an arm-length away from the control room there’s a young man standing, looking out to the million constellations dotted on the picturesque canvas of universe.
“Can’t sleep, Captain?”
Still deep in his own thoughts, Sungjin’s head snaps back at the sounds of his commander’s approaching steps and sighs resigned as he answers.
“Not really,” he shakes his head massaging his aching temple. He should be used to travelling by light speed by now but somehow a migraine always finds its way back to him. Or maybe he’s just missing that herbal tea you made for him from leaves that only grow on that flat land of Earth.
As if he was able to read his mind, Brian speaks again:
“Don’t worry. You will find her,” he prompts patting Sungjin on the shoulder but the encouraging words don’t ease the bitterness in the captain’s heart. His fingers mindlessly play with the necklace hidden by his collar...
Yeah, you may meet again… but when? He has been looking for you for what feels like eternity. Why can’t he find you again? Why did destiny tear you apart leaving you both longing for the other so sweetly? Because yes, he knows you think of him just as much as he does of you. He feels this connection between you tugging at his heart and it’s driving him crazy: that you are out there waiting for him but he can’t hold you, can’t whisper sweet little nothings into your ear. Yet he can’t fall asleep to put his thoughts to rest, oh no, you won’t let him easily because he sees you everywhere and he’s missing you dearly from the moment you parted ways. You are like lost stars colliding in the vastness of universe that become merely specks of stardust and moonlight.
You met once and it almost feels like a dream, like it didn’t really happen. Sungjin and his crew were on a bounty when out of nowhere the ship’s engine broke down and they had to perform an emergency landing on a planet they knew nothing about. There were so many variables and factors but the two of you met, so Sungjin is sure it wasn’t coincidence. It couldn’t be. It was written it the stars for you to meet… and then to lose each other again.
“It’s okay,” you said, voice honey and sugar but the goodbye pained his heart.
You were the one who insisted that he should take the kids first and then come back for the rest of you before the ground beneath your feet shallows you up in whole. It was what you asked for in exchange of your help and hospitality when they landed their spacecraft with the breakdown engines on your farm's backyard. From your reaction, Sungjin and his crew quickly gathered that none of you had ever seen anything like this. The thought of existence outside of your own little planet was unheard of.
"Our scientists believed in life somewhere beyond the borders known to us but then the meteor impact happened and nobody cared anymore," you told him beside a fire lighted in the middle of nowhere when he asked about it. He was eager to know about you and your kind because he has never seen this place on the map of universe and you were happy to explain everything to him. You would have done anything if it meant, he would help your little community leave this place before everything dies. "The Earth, our planet moved closer to the Sun which caused a lot of troubles. The temperature got hotter drastically, the desertification process quickened, icebergs melt, the sea levels rose and we don't have much time left."
You shrugged like it didn't even matter to you. Like you had already accepted your fate and didn't even try to change it. The life you had known once no longer existed yet you didn't give up. That's why you still had that farm you called yours and which you cultivated with a few people who joined you for shelter. Your community grew until around thirty people lived and worked together to make the most out of the rest of your days on this Earth. Sungjin and his men looked around in awe, seeing the long forgotten technology you had and tasted the simple but delicious food you shared with them.
It had been a while since they were welcomed so earnestly in a foreign culture. Most planets’ inhabitants were quite suspicious and not without any reason. Space pirates with their worn clothes and weapon belt were bad news everywhere. However, you didn't seem to know of them or simply didn't care about their job. About how they steal and kill if they were paid for it. Or that they were wanted by authorities in different galaxies beyond the Milky Way. You all welcomed them with open arms and trusting smiles. For all you knew, they could have killed you and took your every belonging but Sungjin's crew wasn't made out of monsters. They weren't heartless or ungrateful. The Captain even liked to call himself a businessman so he offered you a deal.
"If you help us fix our broken engine and let us stay here in the meantime, we can take a few of you to the neighbourhood galaxy so they can ask for a rescue team and come back for the others," he offered and who could have said no to that? It was your best option even if it meant, you could only send the third of the camp first and the rest had to wait for another ship to save them from this hell.
The ship couldn't take more than ten extra people in safety. Or even if it did, there wouldn't have been supplies for everyone so you had to choose. Children were the first, everybody agreed and a few teenagers and a pregnant woman joined them. There wasn't much dispute about it even though everybody knew that nothing guaranteed they would be still alive when a rescue team returns.
“Aren’t you afraid?” Sungjin asked you on another hot night standing on the porch of the rundown house with a cup of water in your hands looking up at the bright night sky. The moon being closer than ever was so huge it almost felt like collapsing onto you.
“Of dying?” you mused out loud and hummed while thinking. After seeing so many deaths around you and all the disease that broke out after the floods started, your own mortality didn’t scare you anymore. Waiting for death helplessly did. "No. It's inevitable. It would be useless to be scared of something that will happen either way. When I go, I just want to be able to say that I did everything I could and I lived the best way I could."
It's such a rare approach, the Captain thought, A lot more people were afraid of death itself than the insignificance of their lives. Sungjin considered himself one of those who lived for the day without thinking of the long-time consequences of his actions so he respected you for looking at the bigger picture instead of survival instincts. There was something admirable about you staying so strong even under such cruel circumstances. It would have been a lie to say he wasn't surprised. He didn't expect this from a girl. He had been travelling around the universe yet he hadn't met anybody like you. Somebody who could smile so sincerely at him after all the hardships, but being so smart and kind at the meantime. Every conversation he learnt something new. Not just about your beloved Earth and what it was like before the apocalypse started but about you too. He quickly became enamoured by your little things. The way you tucked your hair behind your ear whenever you were embarrassed or how you never hid your mouth when you laughed. You were so genuine and honest, a light in the darkness and he wondered how the cosmos could want you dead? Such a bright phenomenon should live.
"What about you?" you tore the canvas of silence into pieces with your lovely voice and Sungjin's head turned towards you immediately.
"Huh?"
"Are you afraid of death? That's why you carry those with you? Is the outer space that dangerous?" you pried curiously pointing at the gun attached to his hip. You hadn't pointed it out before but now he realized you knew all along, you weren't stupid.
"For some of us, yes, it's dangerous. But I'm good at protecting myself. Though, it's more for an idea rather than out of fear," he answered pouring emotions he never called names into words.
"An idea?" you furrowed your brows not quite understanding the concept of it.
"Yes, like you know like you and these other people are working hard to stay alive, it's the same for us... we just... sometimes we need to fight for that. The crew is like a family. We protect each other and what's important for us."
You nodded like you understood and he appreciated the sentiment. He didn't take his eyes off of you as your gaze shifted back to the stars.
"How does it feel like to look around up there? Do you ever get lonely?"
Damn, why you always had to ask the questions that hit home? Sungjin chuckled. It was like you have already known him so well. Sure, in the middle of never-ending and vast outer space everybody got lonely from time to time. Even if you had people by your side, looking out to the stars left and right, the universe feels so enormous and you feel so tiny and alone.
"Yeah. Sometimes," he admitted shyly, merely a whisper above the sounds of the night but you didn't mock him for his childlike insecurity.
"That's what I'm afraid of. That when I leave this place, the Earth I call my home no matter how messed up it is, I'm afraid of being left alone in an unknown place among strangers," you mumbled so lost and so vulnerable, Sungjin's heart ached.
He didn't know why but felt the urge to comfort you, to hold your hand and tell you that everything would be alright. He wanted to promise that you won't be alone but he stopped himself on time. It was such an impulse and reckless thought. With the kind of life he led, he could never promise anything like certainty to you so he just muttered something like "You shouldn't be afraid."
The Silver Starlight and its crew were on the Earth for only a week and as soon as the engines started working, they took off. They overstayed their welcome, the commander said apologetically but still it felt like they bid goodbye too soon. When it was time to leave, you ran up to Sungjin one last time.
"I... I know it's stupid and probably just some Earth-being habit as you call it but... I wanted to give you something because I'm grateful that you are helping my people. And to remember us... and me," you were rambling which he found cute and then you pulled off a necklace with a wing-shaped pendant. When you wanted to hang it around his neck, he protested right away.
"I'm not worthy of that," he shook his head that made you giggle.
"I don't know how gifts work in your galaxy but here there's nothing like 'not worthy', please take it," you urge him with a pleading look until he gives up and lets you put your accessory on him.
"I don't have anything to give you," he whispered but you didn't care, you just smiled wide.
"It's okay... Give me something next time we meet," you said light-heartedly with the careless promise of meeting again and then stepped back so the spacecraft could begin its launching.
That was the last time he saw you, through the glass window, with your messy hair in the wind stirred up by the engines and your huge, brown eyes following the metal bird until it disappeared among the stars.
It's been a long time because his ship might be one of the fastest but safe space travel still needed time. Also, the closest authorized organisations didn't think that a dying planet with life on it was worth of saving, especially if they had nothing to offer. That's why Sungjin decided to go back himself. He offered his crew a way out, he told them they didn't need to come with him for an impossible mission for some humans who they barely met but none of them protested, none of them complained, not even when they were running out of supplies because the search was pointless. They couldn't find you.
It should have been easy. A quick in and out. He noted every coordinate on the way back from your Earth but despite following each instruction, your galaxy seems empty as if a black hole swallowed up it whole, like the planet became one with the Sun. He has seen a lot of things before, being an excellent navigator, but he has never experienced anything like this.
How can a Solar System exist that is not in any of the records? How many light years away can you be? he wondered and wished you could answer. You surely would have something wise to say to make him feel at ease. However, without you, he could only hope the stars will shine bright showing him a map leading to you.
Your mother used to tell you that if you can't sleep, you're awake in someone's dream.
She was a wise a woman, a very smart one in this man-ruled world so you never doubted her words. However, since the symptoms of your insomnia started, you think of this belief more and more. Whenever you look at up at the dark skyline, you’re searching for a face among the stars, a twinkling light promising he’s coming to get you, to save you from this dying planet.
Before he crashed into your life, almost literally, you were okay with the inevitable doom. You thought of it as a humans' punishment for using the Earth selfishly. Even the scientists gave up after they found out that the Earth’s orbit has been spiralling around the Sun and in a few years, they will collide making an explosion that could destroy the rest of your galaxy. Of course, everybody would die before that could happen because of the heat scorching the planet. But if it's a punishment, then Sungjin's arrival was the salvation itself giving you the kind of hope you haven't felt since your mother passed away.
Waiting is something you have always hated but now you have nothing better to do. Waiting for death or a rescue team, it's all the same: you don't know when they come. But the latter gives hope, maybe a false one but at least the people of the camp seem happier for the first time in a long while.
Days pass, getting shorter and shorter and you find yourself gazing at the burning stars every chance you get. You imagine one of them as the spaceship that's coming to get you. Despite knowing it won't be Sungjin's anymore, it doesn't stop your daydreaming about seeing him again when they set a foot an Earth once again. You cherish the memory of his smile and the glimmer in his eyes and you find yourself wishing for him to do the same. Maybe that's why you find solace in the wishful thinking of him dreaming about you but you would never dare to admit it out loud.
"You are looking at the sky again," a boy not much older than you remarks casually as he slumps down next to you onto the rotten bench. "You do that a lot lately."
You flinch at his sudden appearance but can't find it in you to be mad at him. Wonpil is a hard-working member of the community and a good listener, he has helped you a lot to deal with this many people around. He used to play a lot with the kids, so he probably misses them.
"Yeah," you nod because it would be in vain to make up some lie about how peculiar the sky looks now that you are getting closer and closer to the Sun. You don't like to lie anyway.
"Don't worry. A rescue team should arrive soon," he says and you only hum in acknowledgement. Though, time is one thing you don't have the luxury to have much and everybody knows it. Even Sungjin warned you that time is counted differently up there so he couldn't tell you how much time it would take for another team to arrive. It can be weeks or years, based on their technology you cannot even imagine.
"I know," you sigh with hope tingling in your chest.
He promised and you believe him: they will send someone, you are sure of it. So you just sit there watching the stars every day, waiting.
It takes six more months of struggling to stay alive on a planet incapable of living when you start to forget, losing hope. You almost persuade yourself it was just a dream but all that proof doesn't let you so it makes you sad instead. You miss a man you barely know and only see in your hazy dreams. Like the one you are having when you are rudely woken up.
"Wake up, sleepyhead!" somebody shakes your shoulder gently but you just grunt tiredly.
"Ah is it morning already?" you pry your eyes open slowly. There's nothing but darkness around you and the endless possibilities scare you. You're afraid of an attack or somebody dying because of the urgency in Wonpil's voice but there's a hint of smile on his face that makes you confused. "What...?"
"You will see," he drags you out of the bed and leads the way. You are going out, you realize and still yawning, you freeze on spot when you catch a glimpse of the monument in the middle of the corn field close-by. The metal craft is as beautiful and elegant as you remember and the moonlight is dancing on its silver wings. Under the brighter than ever stars, a young man is walking down the ramp towards you with a secret smile playing on his ethereal features.
You take a step, then two and three until you run into his arms like a kid. He doesn’t disappear when you touch him and it feels like a real wake-up call.
“You came back,” you whisper still in awe, blinking at him wildly, not believing your eyes. He's here, really here, not merely in a dream, dissolving into thin-air like a mirage.
“Of course. Sorry it took so long to find you,” he says as if it goes without saying and you know you will fall in love with him. You are not there yet, only edging on this sweet feeling with tentative touches and shy glances but eventually you will tip over and fall.
Right into the black hole. With him, happily.
