We have finally finished this project, and thus, The World's Worst Dating Sim is finally DONE! Just in time for April Fools Day. Now, with our six new contestants, choose, uhh... who's dateable? Or not dateable? This last batch was determined almost entirely by People Telling Us Who To Add, contains multiple AUs, and is... hmm. "Unconventional" may be a good term? Half of these are probably undateable but you can still shoot your shot.
As previously, it can be a platonic date if you want, you just can't be neutral. Deadlander Lambda belongs to @cordycepsbian and has been moved into our studio for duration of this poll. Profiles below the cut.
(we're linking the first poll here)
Deadlander Lambda - Maybe - Deadlander - Good question - At least a little bit
This, uhh...
...is this safe? We don't think this is safe. ..."Already had kids before"? What do you mean it's a parent?
...well, we can't get it out of the studio, so it's an option now? We guess? This... really doesn't seem like a good idea.
Rogu - He/him - Ant drone - Very rude to ask a gentleman that, don't you think? - I wouldn't worry about that.
A charming mystery from somewhere only described as "a faraway land", though he wasn't quite scheduled in this lineup, we think we can make an exception. This silver-tongued bug seems to be able to say just what's needed to get under your skin... and from the look of it, he's angling to take you somewhere private.
...come to think of it, haven't we seen that face before? On a poster, maybe? Well, it's not a surprise he's been modelling for things, he's certainly got a pretty enough face for it, but why do we feel... nervous, all of a sudden?
Carmina - She/(scribbled in)it - (illegible) - (illegible) - (illegible)(scribbled out with "No longer relevant" written in its place)
...where is she? She was meant to show up hours ago. What on earth could have held her up this long?
Pebbles - He/him - Moth ("iterator") - Juvenile (estimated) - Unclear
Right out of surgery, this one. While we're not sure if it's entirely responsible to include this one, and we certainly don't speak whatever language he's speaking... he's cute, isn't he? And looking for a home? Well, maybe if you're the sort of person who might want to rescue a domestic moth in a bad situation...
Wereweevil Vi - It/its (wereweevil form) - Wereweevil - 19 - Aro
Pre-existing hangups mean that you can only date this one in wereweevil form. Good luck.
Kina - She/her - Mantis (big) - Haven't asked - Also haven't asked
Well, we assume that you can do less lethal than the bandit who people mostly know thanks to her former job as a corpse disposal unit, but some people might be into that sort of thing, honestly. Are you, perchance, also a mantis?
#our art#bug fables#finished#watercolor#ocs#other peoples ocs#deadlander lambda#monsieur scarlet#carmina#five pebbles#wereweevil vi#kina#valentines#or we're tagging it as such for organization its actually an april fools poll#we treat the two events with about the same gravity so it fits#for clarification purposes: five pebbles is several centuries old and would be very offended at being called juvenile#however he is less than an inch tall and built like a stick and doesnt speak bugnish at all#so he spends most of his time lurking beneath furniture and trying to bite people with his new mouth. much to the hospitals distaste.#although the wereweevil is vi or at least an aspect of her it is not a terribly sapient one#it is hungry and afraid and desperate and lashing out in search of any pack#in search of ANY connection it can find#and the only way it knows how to do that is by violently mauling everyone and everything in its path so uhh good luck bucko#wereweevil vi in normal form has way too many hangups over intimacy to agree to an outing and must be approached like a feral cat#we know about the normal timeline and we added extra years so that she has the time to acquire more problems#thus ends our FAQ. good luck#EDIT: typo in the tags. ough

palestinian poets: rasha abdulhadi
rasha abdulhadi is a queer palestinian southerner with long covid who cut their teeth organizing on the southsides of chicago and atlanta. rasha's writing has appeared in speculative city, liminality, strange horizons, shade journal, mizna, room, itap| magazine, beltway poetry, and lambda literary. their work is anthologized in essential voices: a COVID-19 anthology, unfettered hexes, halal if you hear me, stoked words, and luminescent threads: connections to octavia butler. rasha is a member of justice for muslims collective, the radius of arab american writers, and alternate ROOTS. their small book of poetry is WHO IS OWED SPRINGTIME (neon hemlock press). you can find rasha on twitter.
RASHA'S CALL TO ACTION
"rasha abdulhadi is calling on you, dear reader, to join them in refusing and resisting the genocide of the palestinian people. wherever you are, whatever sand you can throw on the gears of genocide, do it now. if it's a handful, throw it. if it's a fingernail full, scrape it out and throw. get in the way however you can. the elimination of the palestinian people is not inevitable. we can refuse with our every breath and action. we must."
IF YOU READ JUST ONE POEM BY RASHA ABDULHADI, MAKE IT THIS ONE
"Casting Runes" was originally published by fiyah literary magazine in the palestine special issue, which was curated, edited, illustrated and comprised entirely of palestinian creators, in december 2021. the collection was edited by guests nadia shammas and summer farah, and featured cover art by leila aboutaleb.
if you have the means, you can purchase the e-book of the fiyah lit palestine special issue for USD $5.99, the proceeds of which go to medical aid for palestinians.

another miscellaneous muse lineage fact: deadlander lambda is highly resistant to most forms of magic, as its primary diet is mimic flies, which are predisposed to being magic as a defense mechanism*
muse inherited some of this magic resistance, which gets weaker the further down the family line you go, but this does mean that she would be partly immune to leif's ice magic in a hypothetical meeting-dead-leif scenario (in fact, she would probably enjoy getting hit by it, since she gets overheated easily and likes being cold)
*our interpretation of hoaxe and his general species ignores the art book explanation of his fire magic in favor of "he was born like that" because we think he should be more of a wretched creature
#bug fables spoilers#bf#oc: deadlander lambda#main tag gets spared our incredibly obscure headcanonage for now

quick doodle of a Beast from our very normal headcanon worldbuilding we talked about yesterday. it doesn't really have a name, but for classification purposes let's call it deadlander lambda
it's simultaneously a more mutated and more primal version of a typical moth, hence the extra arms and wings. it's also Really, Really Big, almost twice the size of a deadlander gamma, and the mimic flies that inhabit the wastes to the far, far north of bugaria make up a big part of its diet. despite this, it was somehow both genetically compatible with and seen as attractive by a completely average io moth, resulting in what would become bugaria's most normal family line
#stuff i made tag#oc: deadlander lambda#also known as 'the grandparent that muse gets her ability to eat meat from'#tragically the romance between this Thing and muse's grandma did not work out and it did not stick around to see any of its children hatch#nobody even figured out that the kiddos could eat meat until a whole generation after that#once again. Our Headcanon Worldbuilding Is Very Normal And Hinged

our visions. actually think there might be more deadlander lambdas than just the one. don't know yet how different they are from each other but there's at least a difference between the pink one and a separate more gray one

i don't think we ever mentioned this but we decided that the colloquial name for deadlanders lambda is "yeti moths". not that the term gets used very much considering the species consists of only one individual and a handful of hybrid offspring, and it's more of an urban legend to bugarian moths since the big one hasn't been sighted in the area since before the ants even showed up
#honey talks tag#also the original was in its cocoon pupating when the day of awakening happened and so it hatched very weird#which is why it's like that#oc: deadlander lambda

By virtue of being the only person who submitted something potentially dateable, the polls are now directly rigged in your favor. Also here's the beast on its own.
fascinated by the implication that we win something if enough people vote for this. what's the prize other than several new grandparents-in-law

none of the deadlander lambda stuff counts as "The North" headcanons because its actual usual range is significantly further north than where the beetles and snow bees live and it has wandered into the area that would now be considered bugaria Once. during this time it learned a language, was pursued romantically by a regular not-dinosaur moth, got beast blasted by a wizard, clawed a hole in stream mountain so it could eat a belostoss, and indirectly caused a wasp civil war that resulted in a faction of them leaving bugaria to live in the deadlands. quite the adventure
#oc: deadlander lambda#the other grandparent does not have a name yet#lambda did not know how to speak before because it was simply not necessary for its lifestyle#(picking up any living thing small enough to be picked up and eating it)#the potential programming for language is There just not used 99.9% of the time because it has nobody to speak to#how did Other Grandparent avoid getting eaten? she's just built different

Results are in! Deadlander Lambda is, certifiably, Bugaria's Most Eligible Bachelor out of the reduced selection! For its prize, it receives: eight (8) dates, and also the ability to leave our studio. Please. It's taking up so much space. We can offer food.
Carmina specifically from the WIP that we typod is also, certifiably, dateless. This is probably because she's missing and no one knows where she is. Very unfortunate. Oh well!

#bug fables#polls#art#we post our works#this is also making us think of what to do for next valentines' event#we've done cards and we've done Terrible Dating Polls. the holiday is more or less a running joke to us for aro reasons#also because we dont. live anywhere that involves really celebrating it. but we still like making things for it bc romance is a comedy to u#we're like somewhat tempted to do An Unironic Romance Fic honestly. not like with a good ship with like. carmina/zommoth#(real actual pairing that we have a wip of in our files right now)#our roots romance-wise are in randomly generating pairings on a homestuck pairing generator we just never got past dad crocker/glbgolyb#whereas other people we think started actually getting into things rather than being perpetually in a state of only liking weird niche shit#ah well. our mo as far as 99% of things go is slamming together disparate elements#even if the path individually is incredibly well tread then combining it with another path will make it feel new#all story ideas are made of infinitesimally small pieces of other stories. there's no such thing as originality really#just combining your pieces in a way that pulls from enough sources that you're looking at angles most viewers have never seen before#we speak
